- Chapter 14 - Inside the Cave
Zhu Changxuan was pushed aside and fell hard on her backside.
She winced in pain, sat up, and rubbed her sore hip. In a soft, whiny voice, she said, “Why were you so rough? You kept me up all night, and now you’re pushing me away too?”
Hearing such suggestive words, Song Yidao’s face turned dark. She didn’t even know why, but seeing them together made her furious. With a sharp flick of her sleeve, she flew off without a word.
Si Chou watched her leave but made no move to follow.
Zhu Changxuan stood up and poked Si Chou’s shoulder with her finger. “She’s gone. Are you really just going to stand here? Shouldn’t you go after her?”
Si Chou turned around and slapped her hand away, rolling her eyes. “Should I leave you here and go after her, or bring you with me and make things even worse?”
Zhu Changxuan pouted. “How would I make things worse? You always say stuff like this to me. No wonder you’re still single.”
Si Chou lost her patience. She grabbed Zhu Changxuan’s cheeks and gave her a terrifying glare. “Do you not want your tongue anymore? I don’t mind cutting it off for you.”
Zhu Changxuan frantically shook her head. “Mmm mmm—”
Early the next morning, Han Xuejin and the others discovered that Zhu Changxuan had gone missing again.
Zhu Shijing was pacing back and forth inside the room, anxious and restless.
The more Chen Tao watched him, the more frustrated she became. She sighed and said, “We’ll have to split up and search. She probably hasn’t gone far.”
Zhu Shijing nodded. “Alright.”
Han Xuejin, for some reason, felt increasingly irritated after realizing Zhu Changxuan was missing. She agreed to go out and search as well.
Poor Sui Sheng had long been stored away in Han Xuejin’s storage ring. Bored out of its mind, it pecked at some rather unappetizing-looking pills.
Meanwhile, Si Chou was flying through the sky with Zhu Changxuan on the sword with her.
Zhu Changxuan was struggling to stay awake. She clung tightly to Si Chou’s waist out of fear of falling.
Annoyed, Si Chou took out a pill and forced it into her mouth.
After swallowing the pill, Zhu Changxuan instantly felt refreshed. She gasped, “Wow, what was that? It works better than coffee.”
Si Chou looked confused. “What is coffee? That was a Cooling Pill. And stop sticking so close to me.”
Zhu Changxuan pouted and let go of her waist. “So what if I hug you? It’s not like it’ll cost you anything.”
Si Chou replied, “Do you drink alcohol?”
Zhu Changxuan answered casually, “A little.”
Then she added, “But if you’re thinking of drinking to forget your sorrows, it’ll only make them worse.”
Si Chou gritted her teeth. “Be quiet.”
Seeing that Si Chou was genuinely angry, Zhu Changxuan wisely shut her mouth.
Later, after arriving at a small inn in the countryside, Si Chou ordered several jars of the strongest wine available.
After drinking quite a bit, her cheeks turned red. Drunk and emotional, she began pouring her heart out to Zhu Changxuan.
“Do you know even Cuihua’s dog used to bully me? And Erdan, Daya, and Gousheng, those little brats were the worst…”
“And tell me, why doesn’t Song Yidao like me? Is it because I’m too good-looking and she feels she doesn’t deserve me?”
Zhu Changxuan hadn’t touched much wine. She mostly sat there quietly listening, occasionally munching on peanuts.
Si Chou glanced over and saw Zhu Changxuan seriously crunching away on peanuts. That annoyed her even more. She slammed her hands on the table.
“Hey! Are you even listening to me?”
Zhu Changxuan had just picked up another peanut. She sighed, turned her head, stared at Si Chou for a few seconds, and then calmly popped the peanut in her mouth.
Si Chou slapped the plate of peanuts aside in anger. “Stop eating.”
Zhu Changxuan sighed again. “I’m afraid if I try to comfort you, you’ll just yell at me.”
Si Chou, now thoroughly drunk, responded with a hazy voice. “Why would I yell at you for comforting me?”
Zhu Changxuan looked serious. “Honestly, I think you come across way too flirty. If someone like you tried chasing me, I’d probably slap her. Senior Sister Song is so upright and proper. It’s really not surprising she doesn’t like you. You shouldn’t overthink it.”
Si Chou couldn’t take it anymore and shouted, “Shut up!”
Zhu Changxuan went silent.
A little girl who had come to the inn with her mother heard the yelling and curiously wandered over. She stood in front of them, staring at the two beautiful women. She looked dazed, especially as she stared at Zhu Changxuan.
Noticing the child’s gaze, Si Chou glared fiercely and snapped, “What are you looking at? Do you want me to sell you off?”
The little girl was so frightened that she ran back to her mother and clung to her side, not daring to look again.
Zhu Changxuan was speechless. She hadn’t expected Si Chou to be such a terrible drunk.
Suddenly, Zhu Changxuan remembered something. Right, this was the perfect chance to ask Si Chou whether Fan Nimei had the antidote for the Love-binding Pill.
Unfortunately, Si Chou’s answer was disappointing.
“No.”
Zhu Changxuan held her head in despair. “Then what do we do?”
Si Chou suddenly burst into laughter. “Ah, so that cold-faced beauty accidentally took Fan Nimei’s Love-binding Pill?”
“Who did she fall for again? If I remember right… wasn’t it a pretty powerful omega?”
Zhu Changxuan’s heart sank even further. “You already know? Yes. She saw my mother.”
“What? Hahaha, your mother? She fell for your mother? That’s your mom! Hahaha…”
Zhu Changxuan’s expression turned even gloomier. She was completely unaffected by Si Chou’s laughter and teasing.
Si Chou, still drunk, patted her on the shoulder and said, “You don’t have to be so down. I actually know a secret technique that can break the Love-binding Pill.”
Zhu Changxuan’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really? What is it?”
Si Chou leaned in close and whispered mischievously into her ear.
“If the person under the effect of the Love-binding Pill sleeps with the one they truly love, the spell will break.”
Zhu Changxuan blushed after hearing what Si Chou had whispered, but she couldn’t help falling into deep thought. Her heart tightened. Who did Han Xuejin truly like? Could it be her?
While the three split up to search, Han Xuejin happened to reach the outskirts of town. Unexpectedly, outside a small inn, she spotted Zhu Changxuan and Si Chou drinking at a table.
In a flash, Han Xuejin appeared in front of them, her expression serious.
Zhu Changxuan’s eyes lit up when she saw her. She looked moved and said, “You found me again!”
Seeing Zhu Changxuan’s smile, Han Xuejin momentarily lost focus.
Si Chou staggered to her feet and looked at Han Xuejin.
“Just my luck. Even without that smudge on your face, you still look like an ice block.”
Han Xuejin glanced at her coldly.
Si Chou waved her off. “She’s yours now. Having her around is nothing but trouble.”
With that, she wobbled off, flying away on her sword.
Zhu Changxuan watched her go and asked worriedly, “Will she be alright?”
Han Xuejin felt a strange discomfort in her chest. “You’re worried about her?”
Zhu Changxuan shook her head. “Not really. It’s not like she needs my concern.”
“Then come with me. Don’t you know your mother’s been really worried about you?” Without waiting, Han Xuejin grabbed her and took off with her on her sword.
As they flew, Zhu Changxuan asked softly, “And you? Were you worried about me too?”
Han Xuejin felt a sudden pang in her heart but didn’t answer.
While flying, Zhu Changxuan suddenly noticed something below and pulled Han Xuejin’s arm to get her attention.
“Look over there! Those are the zombies that chased me around all night yesterday!”
Han Xuejin looked in the direction she pointed. Several zombies were lining up and jumping off a cliff, one after another.
Curious and confused, Han Xuejin took Zhu Changxuan down to investigate the base of the cliff.
At the bottom, the forest was dark and gloomy. The light was dim, and a thick fog covered everything. A narrow, rushing river ran along the ground. The zombies that had fallen in were swiftly swept away by the current.
Han Xuejin felt like something deeper in the forest was drawing her in. She started walking toward it.
Zhu Changxuan hesitated. “Are we really going in there?”
Han Xuejin didn’t respond, so Zhu Changxuan, feeling nervous but unwilling to be left behind, followed closely.
The forest was wild and overgrown. They walked for a while until they came to the entrance of a cave, shadowed and ominous. The stone door at the entrance wasn’t completely shut, and there was just enough of a gap for someone slim to squeeze through.
Zhu Changxuan stared into the darkness suspiciously.
Han Xuejin looked back and ordered, “Go in.”
“What? Alright…” Seeing that she had no choice, Zhu Changxuan reluctantly approached.
She carefully turned her body sideways and slipped through the narrow opening. Once inside, she looked back into the pitch-black space and urged Han Xuejin to hurry in.
Han Xuejin stepped through with one foot, then her head, but suddenly got stuck.
Zhu Changxuan stood there, blinking at the sight of Han Xuejin’s chest jammed in the doorway.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” She hugged her own not-so-big chest and looked on with envy.
Han Xuejin snapped, her cheeks flushed. “Stop staring!”
She pulled herself back out, glared into the cave, and shouted, “Back away.”
Zhu Changxuan quickly stepped back as Han Xuejin summoned her sword. With a few precise strikes, the stone door shattered into pieces. Han Xuejin walked in coldly, surrounded by the fading light of her sword energy.
Zhu Changxuan was speechless.
Han Xuejin led the way deeper into the cave.
Strangely, the deeper they went, the brighter it became.
Eventually, they saw the source of the light.
At the heart of the cave was a field of strange, glowing seven-colored flowers. Their pollen shimmered with vibrant light, creating a magical atmosphere.
Zhu Changxuan forgot her fear and stepped curiously into the field of flowers.
“They’re so pretty… and they smell amazing!”
Han Xuejin frowned as she looked at the unfamiliar plants. Something about them didn’t feel right, but she couldn’t immediately place what they were.
She followed Zhu Changxuan, but the stronger the scent became, the dizzier her head felt. Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind. She remembered what these flowers were.
Huomei Flowers.
Flowers known for their powerful aphrodisiac effect. No one could resist their influence.
It had been a long time since anyone had come across this kind of flower, and now, of all times, Zhu Changxuan and Han Xuejin had stumbled upon it together—one an omega, the other an alpha.
Han Xuejin’s body grew hot, her breathing heavier. Her eyes, sharp and intense, landed on Zhu Changxuan, who stood a short distance ahead among the glowing flowers. Something about her looked different too.
Zhu Changxuan tugged at the collar of her shirt, her face flushed. “Don’t you feel a little hot?” she asked, slightly dazed. Her clothes were already thin, but the heat seemed to come from inside her.
Han Xuejin, wrapped in heavier garments, felt the burning even more. She pulled open her white outer robe, letting it fall loosely among the flowers. The faint outline of her inner layer showed beneath, half-lit by the pollen’s glow.
Zhu Changxuan turned her head just in time to see this unexpected move. She froze, stunned by Han Xuejin’s sudden boldness.
Under the influence of the Huomei flowers, Han Xuejin’s composure slipped further. Without thinking, she stepped forward and pushed Zhu Changxuan down into the soft petals, pressing close, drawn to the intoxicating scent of the alpha’s pheromones.
If it had been anyone else, Han Xuejin might have chosen to fight the urge, even to the point of striking them down. But this person—Zhu Changxuan—was different. She didn’t want to push her away. In fact, something deeper in her stirred. Maybe it was desire, or maybe it was something else entirely.
Zhu Changxuan immediately realized that something was wrong. The heat, the dizziness, and now this strange loss of control. Even her own body felt… unfamiliar. She flushed with embarrassment.
“Xuejin,” she said breathlessly, trying to resist the pull of the moment. “Don’t… this isn’t right…”
Han Xuejin didn’t respond at first. Her eyes were glazed, her thoughts clouded. Her instincts were louder than her reason. She reached forward, trembling.
But just before she could go further, Zhu Changxuan reached up and held her shoulders firmly, not forcefully, but enough.
“Please,” she whispered. “This isn’t really you.”
Those words broke through, just a little.
Han Xuejin blinked, and in that moment, something in her expression shifted. She froze, as if a wave of clarity had washed over her. Her breathing stayed heavy, but her hands dropped to her sides. She gritted her teeth, holding back the wave that still surged inside her.
“I…” Han Xuejin looked away, her voice hoarse. “I can’t think straight.”
Zhu Changxuan sat up slowly, her face still flushed but filled with concern. “It’s the flowers. We have to get out of here, now.”
Han Xuejin nodded weakly, ashamed, eyes cast downward.
Zhu Changxuan took her hand. “Come on. Before we lose ourselves completely.”
They rose together, unsteady, but determined. Behind them, the shimmering flowers continued to glow, unaware of the chaos they had nearly caused.
