- Chapter 15 - The Flowers
Both of them were completely drained, but under the lingering influence of the Huomei flowers, they still found themselves clinging to each other.
Suddenly, the flower pollen began to shift, swirling as if guided by an invisible force, and moved deeper into the cave.
The petals around them withered instantly, and as the scent faded, their thoughts gradually cleared.
As clarity returned, the two of them locked eyes, and then immediately pulled apart in embarrassment. They hurried to gather their scattered clothes and get dressed again.
Zhu Changxuan could feel her heart pounding. Her body was aching from the strain, and her face was burning hot with shame. She could not forget those fleeting images that had filled her mind moments ago. She avoided looking at Han Xuejin and quietly finished dressing.
Han Xuejin was just as overwhelmed. Remembering how she had lost control earlier made her feel deeply ashamed. For a long moment, she did not know how to say a single word.
Silence filled the space between them. The atmosphere was heavy and awkward.
Han Xuejin finally took a breath and spoke softly. Her voice was hesitant.
“Changxuan. What happened earlier was because of the Love-binding Pill. And then… the Huomei flowers. I…”
Zhu Changxuan looked at her with surprise. Her eyes lit up with realization.
“You are back to normal?” she asked carefully.
She suddenly remembered what Si Chou had told her. There was a second way to remove the effect of the Love-binding Pill. Could that really have worked?
Han Xuejin gave a small nod. Her silence said more than words.
Before Zhu Changxuan could say anything more, a burst of laughter echoed from deep within the cave.
“Finally. I can leave this place.”
A cold wind swept past them. From the shadows ahead, a figure slowly emerged.
Han Xuejin immediately raised her sword and stepped protectively in front of Zhu Changxuan.
That strange familiarity she had sensed earlier returned stronger than ever. Her body tensed.
A woman appeared in the dim light. She was dressed in a revealing outfit and carried herself with a seductive, confident air. Her features were striking, and she moved with an omega’s distinct charm.
Zhu Changxuan squinted in the weak light, trying to place the face. She searched her memories for any reference in the stories she had read but found nothing familiar. With concern, she whispered to Han Xuejin, “Be careful. Something feels off.”
The woman paused and looked at Han Xuejin. Her voice trembled slightly.
“Xuejin. Is your name Xuejin?”
Han Xuejin narrowed her eyes and replied coldly. “Who are you?”
The woman seemed caught off guard, her gaze lingering on Han Xuejin as if trying to confirm something. For a moment, she could not speak.
Time had passed. So many years had gone by. Her daughter had grown up. The scar on her face was gone. She had removed it herself. She was strong now, strong enough to protect herself.
The woman’s gaze shifted to Zhu Changxuan. She was pretty, yes, but too weak for her taste. Still, if her daughter liked her, that was what mattered.
She took a step forward, arms beginning to lift as if to embrace Han Xuejin. Before she could reach them, Han Xuejin grabbed Zhu Changxuan and quickly moved aside.
The woman paused and wiped away a tear that was not really there.
“Xuejin, I am your mother.”
Han Xuejin’s body tensed at those words. Could that strange familiarity be because this woman was truly…
Zhu Changxuan noticed her hesitation and immediately grew more alert.
The woman looked suspicious. Her behavior was too dramatic. She must be one of those dangerous people who hurt soft-hearted protagonists. Zhu Changxuan’s expression turned serious.
She leaned toward Han Xuejin and whispered, “Xuejin, just look at her. She is acting weird. She is not even crying. It is all fake. You should not trust her.”
Han Xuejin let out a silent breath.
The woman frowned. “I can hear you, you know.”
She clearly wanted to hit someone but held back when she noticed how protective Han Xuejin was being.
She forced a smile and said, “Little girl, that is not a nice way to talk. Everything I said is true.”
Han Xuejin stared at her calmly. “If you claim to be my mother, then prove it.”
The woman fell quiet for a moment, then slowly spoke.
“When you were still a toddler, I had no choice but to hide you in Ma Ti Village. You have a beauty mark just below your right collarbone.”
Zhu Changxuan gasped. “She is right. That is exactly where it is. She might really be your mother.”
Han Xuejin stared at them both. She suddenly had the urge to punch someone.
The woman looked at Zhu Changxuan and chuckled softly. “That is right. Absolutely correct.”
Han Xuejin felt a headache coming on. This situation was moving far too fast. In her previous life, she had never even known her mother was alive.
“You left me in Ma Ti Village. Why? And what are you doing here?”
The woman let out a long sigh. “It is a long story.”
Zhu Changxuan quickly interrupted before the woman could launch into a long story.
“I don’t want the whole tale. Just get to the point.”
Hua Yue paused, looking slightly annoyed.
“I was once the head of Hehuan Palace. I fell in love with Han Ying, the Demon Lord. Hehuan Palace was already scorned by those self-righteous so-called righteous sects, and because of my relationship with Han Ying, they used it as an excuse to unite and try to wipe us out.
I had already disbanded my disciples early on. I disliked the environment of the Demon Realm, so Han Ying and I chose to live in seclusion outside it.
Those old geezers claimed that any child born of a union between me and the Demon Lord would bring disaster to the world. I think they were just ambitious and jealous.
Not long after I gave birth to you, they found us. Han Ying’s men had not arrived in time. We were outnumbered and overwhelmed. She told me to take you and flee to the Demon Realm.
But they had too many people. When I was about to be caught, I had no choice but to hide you in Ma Ti Village. I faked our deaths in an explosion so they would believe we perished together. The battle ended with both sides severely wounded. My own spirit was nearly destroyed, so I sealed myself away in this stone cave to recover.
Before that, I scattered seeds of Huomei Flowers. They take fifty years to mature, and once fully grown, I could absorb their spiritual energy and regain enough power to awaken.
Of course, I am the master of Hehuan Palace. When I cultivate Huomei Flowers, they are never without… extra uses.
For instance, if a couple were to wander in here and inevitably, well, give in to passion, the flowers would absorb the essence released during their union. That would rapidly accelerate their growth. What you saw earlier was exactly that.”
Zhu Changxuan stood frozen.
Han Xuejin remained silent, her face unreadable.
Hua Yue, unbothered by their stunned and colorful expressions, looked at Han Xuejin with the warmth of a doting mother.
“What a pity I missed your wedding. How long have you two been married? It can’t have been long, right?”
Han Xuejin’s face turned faintly red. She looked away, clearly uncomfortable, and said nothing.
Hua Yue’s smile froze slightly. She turned her eyes to Zhu Changxuan instead.
Zhu Changxuan hesitated, then stammered out, “Uh… we’re… not married.”
Hua Yue kept smiling, but Zhu Changxuan suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
“But we’ve been engaged for a long time now,” she added quickly. “Really. And… maybe we should leave this place first.”
Hua Yue sighed, clearly displeased. “Fine.”
As they were preparing to go, Zhu Changxuan glanced awkwardly at Hua Yue’s revealing outfit and asked, “Senior, would you like to change into something else?”
Her eyes couldn’t help but drift to Hua Yue’s dangerously low neckline. Even in modern times it would draw stares, let alone in this more conservative era.
Maybe it was the way she dressed that made the major sects dislike her so much in the first place.
Hua Yue pouted in protest. “Why should I change? Don’t you think I look good? Besides, it’s comfortable and cool.”
Han Xuejin silently took out a long robe and handed it to her without a word. Her expression made it clear that she was not offering a choice.
Hua Yue stared for a moment.
Eventually, though unwillingly, she pulled the robe over her shoulders.
