- Chapter 18 - Social death
When Zhu Changxuan returned to the forest path, she saw a few people appear around the bend ahead.
Looking closely, she realized it was the same group of bandits from last time.
Their leader, still limping on one foot, saw her alone and shouted fiercely,
“Hey, you! Hand over everything valuable on you, or you’re not leaving here alive!”
Zhu Changxuan stared at them in silence, completely unimpressed.
Some dogs really never change.
Suddenly, one of the bandits with a shifty face gasped.
“Boss, it’s her! She’s the one who was with that omega who injured us last time! We even moved to a different mountain, how did we run into her again? What do we do?”
The leader jumped in surprise.
“What?”
He quickly looked around in all directions, checking if there were others nearby.
When it seemed that Zhu Changxuan was indeed alone, his tone steadied.
“You came here by yourself today?”
Hearing his slightly trembling voice, Zhu Changxuan smiled.
“Yes, just me.”
The leader relaxed and resumed his bluster.
“Hmph, if that omega isn’t here, what’s there to fear about this pretty boy who just hides behind her?”
Meanwhile, Han Xuejin and Hua Yue had already reunited. When they heard movement nearby, they hurried over and arrived just in time to hear Zhu Changxuan speaking boldly.
“Honestly, if it were the old me, there wouldn’t be much to be afraid of. But I’m different now. Crushing you all would be easier than squashing an ant.”
Han Xuejin raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“What?”
She and Hua Yue didn’t immediately jump into action. Instead, they exchanged confused glances from the treetops.
But seeing the group of bandits growing restless, Han Xuejin tensed, preparing to leap down.
Hua Yue stopped her.
“Wait. Look at her. Little Xuanyan looks pretty confident right now. She can probably handle it on her own. If you keep protecting her like this, she might feel like you don’t believe in her. It’ll hurt her pride as an alpha.”
Han Xuejin looked anxious, but after hearing Hua Yue’s words, she hesitated and stayed where she was.
The bandits, however, were clearly shaken by Zhu Changxuan’s confidence.
Zhu Changxuan thought this might be the perfect chance to test out the magic wand’s power.
There were no familiar faces around anyway. Eager to try it out, she pulled the wand from her storage pouch.
The bandits took a step back, assuming she had pulled out a powerful weapon.
But when they saw what it was, they all burst into laughter.
The leader sneered.
“Hahaha! I thought she was pulling out something dangerous. What is that ridiculous thing? Don’t be scared, everyone. She’s clearly trying to bluff us.”
Zhu Changxuan ignored the taunts. She took a deep breath, braced herself, and raised the wand.
“Great spirit of magic, Gutama, grant me the power of light. Baka baka… Transformation of the Beautiful Maiden of Light!”
In an instant, a blinding light burst from Zhu Changxuan’s body.
The bandits shouted in surprise.
“Ah! What is that? It’s so bright!”
Hua Yue blinked, shielding her eyes.
“What… is she doing?”
Han Xuejin silently raised a hand to block the light, speechless.
As the light faded, Zhu Changxuan’s elegant white robes had been completely replaced. She now wore a short pink uniform with puffy sleeves and a giant butterfly bow on her chest. A matching miniskirt barely reached mid-thigh.
Even the pink magic wand had gained a sparkly bow of its own.
Hua Yue’s eyes widened in shock and awe.
“I never expected this. Little Xuanyan actually likes clothes that breezy? She’s even bolder than I am… I’ve finally found someone who shares my taste!”
Han Xuejin stared blankly at the outfit. Her eyes slowly traced down to Zhu Changxuan’s long, pale, and very exposed legs.
The bandits stood frozen, confused by everything they had just witnessed.
Zhu Changxuan stood in silence.
“…Wait, hey! No one told me the outfit would change too!”
Hold on.
Why does it feel so breezy under this skirt?
Is there… is there nothing underneath?
A soft breeze passed through, and Zhu Changxuan suddenly looked down, quickly pressing her hands against her skirt to stop it from being blown up. Her face turned red, her eyes filled with suppressed fury.
That bastard. It was bad enough to wear this kind of outfit, but not even providing underwear? Who does that? This was a complete scam!
The bandits, now fully recovered from their shock, burst into even louder laughter. Their comments turned nastier and more vulgar by the second.
Listening to their mocking jeers, Zhu Changxuan slowly raised her magic wand and pointed it at them. Her expression was one of utter deadpan despair as she muttered,
“Super Light Wave… fire.”
A powerful beam of light blasted forward, slamming into the group of bandits. Before they could even react, they were flung high into the air by the impact and vanished from sight. Whether they were alive or dead was unknown.
Without wasting another second, she immediately deactivated the transformation and returned to her original white robes.
Han Xuejin stood frozen.
“What… was that?”
Hua Yue’s mouth dropped open.
“Wow… I have no idea what just happened, but that was amazing!”
The two of them descended from the treetops nearby. This time, Han Xuejin did not rush over to check if Zhu Changxuan was alright.
Instead, it was Hua Yue who ran up excitedly.
“Xuanxuan, that was incredible! What was that attack? So powerful!”
Zhu Changxuan was stunned.
“You two… How long have you been watching?”
Hua Yue smiled with narrowed eyes.
“Since you first changed into that outfit.”
She then glanced at Han Xuejin, who stood a short distance behind her.
Feeling Hua Yue’s gaze, Han Xuejin awkwardly turned her face away. She didn’t know how to look at Changxuan anymore, much less what expression to wear.
Zhu Changxuan’s face flushed deep red.
She understood now what true social death felt like. Let the world be destroyed already.
Then Hua Yue leaned closer and wiggled her eyebrows.
“That outfit of yours was super cute. Make one for me too, will you?”
Zhu Changxuan stood frozen.
She silently swore to herself that even if Hua Yue got beaten to death one day, she would never, ever transform into some magical girl again.
