Transmigrated into the Scummy Alpha of the Apocalypse Heroine (GL) - Chapter 1
[Anti-Corruption System Initiated… Please prevent the target, Bai Lansheng, from falling into darkness and destroying the world. If the mission fails, this world will collapse, and the host will lose their chance to survive.]
The moment Qin Junlan woke up, that was the first thing she heard.
The voice echoed in her mind, cold and emotionless like a mechanical narrator. It was impossible to tell if it was male or female.
Before falling asleep, she had just closed a major business deal. The company held a celebration party, and as the person in charge, she was toasted many times. She had allowed herself to drink a little more than usual. Still, she wasn’t worried because her tolerance was decent, and the company had booked a room upstairs for her to rest.
After the banquet, she returned to the room the company had reserved.
So when she first heard the strange voice, she thought a colleague was pulling a prank.
But as she looked around, she realized this wasn’t the luxury suite she had been expecting.
Her head throbbed with the aftereffects of alcohol, but the change in her surroundings was too drastic to ignore.
She had drunk quite a bit the night before, but not to the point of forgetting how the room looked. What was supposed to be a clean, well-kept suite had become a filthy, cramped space.
Just how dirty was it?
There was a broken bed frame, empty bottles littering the mattress and the floor, and one of the walls was stained with what looked like old alcohol splashes.
If the walls were that bad, the bedding certainly wasn’t much better. A foul stench filled the air, coming directly from the filthy blanket draped over her stomach.
Qin Junlan pinched the edge of the blanket with just two fingers and flung it aside. Even with minimal contact, the lingering greasy sensation on her fingertips made her skin crawl.
She was a clean freak. There was no way she could tolerate staying in a place like this.
It took her a while, but she finally dug out a second shoe from under a pile of empty bottles. Unfortunately, it didn’t match the first, so she had no choice but to step outside wearing two mismatched shoes.
The door wasn’t locked. It was just an old, warped wooden board, as if no one here had ever worried about thieves.
The moment she stepped outside, she was hit with a wave of stench even worse than what was inside. The air reeked of urine, and in the corner was a puddle that looked like it had been collecting filth for years.
Qin Junlan felt sick to her stomach. This place made the mud-brick rural houses she had stayed in during her travels seem like five-star resorts in comparison.
Whoever lived here before must have been the worst kind of human trash.
Not only did they ruin their own lives, they ruined the environment too. Outside was like a cesspool, and inside was practically a gas chamber.
She broke out in goosebumps, so many that she could probably serve them as a side dish.
Even though she had started to realize something was off, she still thought it was some elaborate prank. She was already imagining how she would dock that prankster’s entire salary.
But then she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a puddle. The face staring back at her was filthy and unfamiliar. It definitely wasn’t hers.
The voice returned, calm and neutral as ever.
[System: Now do you believe it? You’re already dead. This system has selected you and granted you a chance at rebirth. You’d better treasure it. If you fail to stop the target from falling into darkness, this world will be destroyed, and you will die along with it.]
Qin Junlan asked, “Can you hear me when I talk?”
[System: You don’t need to speak aloud. This system can hear your thoughts as long as you direct them to me.]
Qin Junlan adapted quickly.
[So you can hear whatever I’m thinking? That means I have no privacy.]
[System: To prevent unfair interference, this system can only hear the thoughts you intend to share.]
[Qin Junlan: So I don’t even need to talk to insult you? Great. Got any suggestions for curse words?]
[System: This system does not provide that kind of service.]
[Qin Junlan: Heh.]
[System: What does “heh” mean?]
[Qin Junlan: It means I need some time to process this.]
[System: The system is already activated. You must begin your mission as soon as possible. If the target acts first, the mission may fail.]
[Qin Junlan: If I fail, will I die immediately?]
[System: The first mission has a 24-hour time limit. You will only fail if you cannot reach the mission site within that time.]
[Qin Junlan: And how long will it take me to get there?]
[System: Approximately two hours.]
[Qin Junlan: Then for the next five hours, be quiet.]
[System: …]
The system silently admitted that Qin Junlan was the strangest host it had ever encountered.
Most people who were reborn accepted the mission immediately. But according to its core protocol, the system wasn’t allowed to interfere with the host’s decisions, so it remained silent.
With the annoying voice gone, Qin Junlan also stayed quiet. But her calm appearance didn’t reflect the turmoil within. The smell of alcohol on her body and the overwhelming stench in the air reminded her that she had not only entered a new world, but a new body.
She wished this was just a vivid dream that would end with a pinch. But dreams came from familiar memories, and she had never seen a place like this before. Everything felt too real.
To test herself, she clenched her fist hard during the conversation with the system. Now her palm was sore, imprinted with little dents from her nails.
“Ow… that hurts.”
This was no dream.
And since it wasn’t, she had to seriously consider the possibility that what the system said was true.
The system clearly had access to a lot of information. Ideally, she would get as much out of it as possible. But she didn’t trust it completely. Sometimes, half-truths could be more misleading than ignorance.
She had succeeded in that big business deal because she had done her homework. Before even sitting down at the negotiating table, she already knew everything about her opponent, including that he liked scrambled eggs with tomatoes and drank sake afterward. That kind of preparation gave her the upper hand.
But this system was a mystery. She knew nothing about it. She worried that in this unfamiliar world, she would be like a clueless intern, easily manipulated.
In unfamiliar territory, people instinctively rely on their own experience. Qin Junlan’s instincts told her one thing clearly: she needed to first understand her own situation.
Seeing is believing. Hearing is not. She decided her priority was to assess the environment of this body’s original owner.
At this point, the filth on her body was the least of her concerns.
She walked down a narrow alley. The muddy path was littered with black, shapeless garbage. She did her best to avoid it, but her shoes only got dirtier.
After seeing enough of the rundown houses around her, Qin Junlan found herself thinking that the original home she woke up in almost seemed normal by comparison.
Living in such filthy conditions, it was no wonder the previous occupant’s life had fallen apart.
In fact, she had encountered a few people along the way. Most greeted her, but their eyes were evasive, filled with unease.
Qin Junlan quickly realized what kind of identity she now held.
She was a local thug. A scoundrel.
After walking around the area once, aside from the filth and chaos, the only thing that really stood out was a small grocery shop.
The shop was tiny and poorly stocked, but it seemed to be the only place nearby where people could actually buy things. A lot of idle folks were squatting outside, chatting or doing nothing.
From a distance, Qin Junlan stared at the chipped countertop for a long while. After half an hour, she finally walked over and bought a pack of cigarettes. She paid using the money the original owner had stashed under the bedboard and the coins she got from selling empty bottles.
She must have been a regular customer because the shopkeeper immediately asked if she had come to buy alcohol. When she bought cigarettes instead, he gave her a strange look and asked if she had changed her ways.
Qin Junlan shared most of the cigarettes she bought and used the casual conversation to gather information. Even though there was some bragging and exaggeration involved, she still picked up quite a few useful details.
The system didn’t understand the point of what she was doing and even popped up to ask about it once.
Later, she bought a coarse towel, fetched a bucket of water from a nearby river, and decided to clean herself before tidying up the place. But as she wiped down her body and looked between her legs, she went silent.
Muttering to herself, she said, “Am I even still considered a woman?”
[System: This is an ABO world. Female Alphas are anatomically built like this.]
Seeing her reaction, the system jumped in to offer a brief explanation. In this world, there were three genders: Alpha, Omega, and Beta. Qin Junlan was now a female Alpha. There were also male Alphas, as her counterpart.
Qin Junlan found it hard to accept. She immediately muted the system and finished washing up in silence. Reluctantly, she put on the original owner’s clothes.
The mud and grime she scrubbed off filled several buckets of black water. Putting the same clothes back on made her feel itchy all over. She forced herself to ignore the discomfort and did a simple clean-up of the room. She threw out all the bedding and finally found a matching pair of shoes.
She sat down, panting, more exhausted than she had ever felt in her life.
This body was incredibly weak. Even the slightest movement left her drenched in cold sweat. Because of the poor condition of her body, she hadn’t gone too far during her earlier walk. Fortunately, the cigarettes she had handed out earlier had worked in her favor. Through them, she learned about local prices, power dynamics, the level of technology, and her own social status.
Now that she had seen the environment with her own eyes, Qin Junlan gave up the last of her doubts.
She really had “reincarnated.” Her soul was now trapped in this new body, wrapped tightly like it was smothered by clothing, stiff and suffocating.
She finally unmuted the system.
Qin Junlan asked, “How did I die?”
[System: You choked to death on your own vomit.]
Qin Junlan let out a dry laugh. “That’s a pathetic way to die. What about the original owner of this body?”
[System: Died the same way.]
“So I should be glad I wasn’t the only one who died so disgracefully?”
[System: Don’t give up. As long as you complete your mission, you can live in this new body and start over. Haven’t you noticed your senses becoming sharper? That’s a sign your soul is syncing with this body. Given more time, it will feel no different from your original one.]
The system’s emotionless tone didn’t comfort her. Qin Junlan said nothing in response.
“Fine. Tell me who this body used to be, and what exactly you want me to do.”
[System: Your current body belonged to Qin Sisi, age twenty-four, Alpha, mental strength ranked D, a low-level enforcer from the East Qi District. Your mission is to prevent the target, Bai Lansheng, from falling into darkness and destroying the world.]
“What exactly do you mean by ‘destroying the world’?”
This was the second time the system had mentioned world destruction. Qin Junlan was now curious—just what had Bai Lansheng done to be capable of ending a whole world?
[System: This system cannot provide future knowledge. You must discover it on your own.]
“You can’t tell me this or that. Then tell me what I get out of this?”
[System: This world is real. My job is to maintain stability across all worlds. If you succeed, I will withdraw from your life, and your future will be entirely your own. If you fail, you’ll be destroyed along with the world.]
So, the system would walk away unscathed, but she might not?
Qin Junlan’s expression turned cold, her brows drawing together as she lowered her gaze.
“Then let’s talk about the target. Who is Bai Lansheng?”
