Transmigrated into the Scummy Alpha of the Apocalypse Heroine (GL) - Chapter 12
“Gang activity?”
Qin Junlan suddenly remembered. Before they had split up at the Dongxi Complex Hotel, Green Hair had mentioned something about it.
Qin Junlan asked, “What time?”
Green Hair replied, “Meet at eight in the evening. Once we get to Zone C, we follow the instructions from the people there.”
“Is everyone required to go? And what exactly are we doing?” Qin Junlan asked.
Green Hair responded, “Probably fighting with the guys from Xiqi. Happens once or twice every month.”
“Who told us about this?” Qin Junlan asked.
“Old Wu did,” Green Hair said.
Qin Junlan knew who Old Wu was, the owner of the convenience store, and the first person she had spoken to when she arrived.
She tried asking more details, but Green Hair couldn’t answer. Watching her scratch her head in frustration, Qin Junlan decided not to press further.
From what Green Hair said, this gang activity seemed routine and mandatory for everyone.
Qin Junlan thought about her mission. She had been assigned to stop Bai Lansheng from attempting suicide. Since the mission was still ongoing, it meant Bai Lansheng was still at risk of self-harm.
That brought her to a problem. If she joined the gang activity, she would have to leave Bai Lansheng. But she couldn’t afford to take her eyes off her.
A sudden growl interrupted her thoughts.
She turned toward the sound and saw Bai Lansheng casually move her hand away from her stomach.
Qin Junlan shook her head. So determined to act proud she’d rather starve in silence. Did she think her stomach was made of gold?
Green Hair spoke up cheerfully. “Sis-in-law, you’re hungry? Boss saved a piece of bread for you. I’ll go get it.”
At the word “sis-in-law,” Bai Lansheng shot Green Hair a sharp glare.
Green Hair didn’t pick up on the mood. She happily trotted over and shoved the bread into Bai Lansheng’s hands.
Expression cold as ice, Bai Lansheng threw the bread away.
The bread rolled across the ground several times until it landed near Qin Junlan’s feet. The once fluffy white bun was now covered in dirt.
Green Hair let out an awkward sound. Even she could tell something wasn’t right. When she had first arrived, she thought the mood between the two was a little off. Now it seemed she was right.
She glanced cautiously at Qin Junlan.
The bread was clearly no longer edible. Qin Junlan tore it into pieces and tossed it into the river to feed the fish, then walked over to Bai Lansheng.
Although Bai Lansheng had her head lowered like a well-behaved child, Qin Junlan could already imagine the scene.
She was like a cat, swiping at you when you least expected it, then calmly pulling her paw back. And if you got angry, she would look at you with big innocent eyes, pretending she had done nothing wrong.
Qin Junlan stood there watching for a moment, a bit longer than usual. Green Hair shrank back a little. Was the boss getting angry?
Bai Lansheng noticed Qin Junlan’s feet in front of her. She didn’t say anything, but her body tensed for a moment.
So what if she got hit? She quickly steadied herself, but the fine sweat on her forehead betrayed her anxiety.
Qin Junlan ruffled her hair, messing it up until Bai Lansheng had to look up.
“There’s no money on the ground for you to pick up, you know. If you keep your head down like that, your neck will go stiff. The bread’s a little hard from sitting too long. I’ll go get you a fresh one. Stay here with Green Hair and wait for me.”
She gave Green Hair a look, signaling her to keep an eye on Bai Lansheng, and then walked away.
As Qin Junlan left, Green Hair let out a long breath of relief.
She said, “Sis-in-law, don’t make Boss angry like that. She scared me just now.”
Bai Lansheng also felt relieved, though she didn’t want to show it. Her face remained cold, clearly refusing to engage in conversation.
But Green Hair didn’t know when to stop. Her voice continued to chatter nonstop in Bai Lansheng’s ears.
“If you two get into a fight, I won’t be able to help you. You can’t beat Boss, and you don’t have any backup. You’d be fighting alone.”
The moment that word hit her ears again, Bai Lansheng couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“Stop calling me that.”
Green Hair’s eyes lit up. “Sis-in-law, you’re finally speaking. But if I don’t call you that, what should I call you? I don’t know your name.”
Bai Lansheng was fuming. She didn’t want to introduce herself.
Green Hair tried again. “Sis-in-law?”
“My name is Bai Lansheng,” she said angrily. “Don’t call me sis-in-law anymore. I have nothing to do with her.”
Green Hair’s eyes twitched slightly. She clearly didn’t believe it. If there was no relationship, why would you willingly come to this godforsaken place?
Still, if she could ask the Boss for dating advice, maybe she could ask sis-in-law for tips too.
Green Hair leaned forward eagerly. “So, sis-in-law, how did Boss win you over?”
“She didn’t!” Bai Lansheng snapped, completely losing her patience.
Green Hair’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Wow, Boss really is something. She didn’t even have to chase you and still got you!”
Bai Lansheng was left speechless.
Idiot! That’s not what I meant at all.
The two of them were clearly not on the same wavelength. Talking to Green Hair was like two chickens trying to speak duck. Fuming with frustration, Bai Lansheng blamed everything on Qin Junlan.
Unaware of the storm she had just caused, Qin Junlan suddenly sneezed. She rubbed her nose and made her way to the convenience store.
This trip wasn’t just to buy bread. She also wanted to ask a few questions. Since Old Wu was the one who had sent out the notice for the gang activity, he probably knew a lot more than he let on.
She was almost at the store when a group of people surrounded her.
These faces were unfamiliar. They weren’t part of the welcome party Green Hair had pulled together earlier, nor did they seem to linger near the convenience store regularly. They were likely from another part of the area.
One of them grinned at her, but his voice was anything but friendly.
“Well, well. Isn’t this Boss Qin? Didn’t you bring an Omega back with you? Why not let the brothers have a look?”
Qin Junlan’s expression didn’t change. She walked forward as if they weren’t there. She made up her mind. If anyone laid a hand on her, she would beat the first one who spoke until they couldn’t get up.
This place didn’t run on reason. Besides, she had better things to do.
“Move,” she said coolly.
They had been trying to intimidate her by surrounding her, but when they saw her calmly walk toward them without hesitation, they quickly stepped aside.
The man who had spoken first watched as she walked right past them. Furious, he kicked the guy next to him.
“What are you so scared of?”
The one who got kicked was annoyed. If you weren’t scared, why didn’t you stop her when she walked by?
Inside the store, Old Wu had been watching the whole scene. He found it pretty amusing.
That group had clearly been waiting for a fight. But when the person showed up, they didn’t even dare to make a move and ended up looking like they were giving her a red carpet welcome.
The whole scene was ridiculous.
By the time Qin Junlan reached the store, Old Wu had already hidden the gleam in his eyes.
He said, “Boss Qin sure is impressive.”
Qin Junlan replied with a smile, “Not at all. They just love peace around here.”
Her answer made Old Wu chuckle. “Here for some liquor?”
Qin Junlan smiled again. “Now that there’s another person in the house, I can’t afford alcohol anymore. Just a pack of cigarettes, please, Brother Wu.”
Old Wu waved off the honorific. “No need to call me brother. Just Old Wu is fine.”
After getting the cigarettes, Qin Junlan pulled one out and offered it to him.
“Old Wu, I wanted to ask about the event tonight. Is it possible to get out of it?”
Old Wu looked surprised.
“You want to skip it? That’s never been done before.”
“Is there any chance you could make an exception?”
“It’s not impossible,” Old Wu said, refusing the cigarette she tried to light for him. “But I suggest you don’t miss it.”
Qin Junlan paused in thought. Then she gave him a slight bow.
“Thanks, Old Wu. I’ll be there on time tonight.”
Old Wu was a little surprised at how quickly she gave up the idea of skipping. He looked at her again, more closely.
Last time, when she had sold empty liquor bottles, he had already sensed a change in her. Today, that feeling was even stronger.
He handed her a cigarette. Qin Junlan lit it for him without missing a beat. Old Wu’s eyes showed a rare glimmer of approval. Not many young people responded so quickly these days.
He gave her one final piece of advice.
“Bring a weapon tonight.”
Qin Junlan thanked Old Wu again, then left the convenience store.
The system, having observed everything from start to finish, was a little confused. It couldn’t figure out what Qin Junlan was thinking.
System: “Are you planning to attend the gang activity tonight? So you’re just going to leave Bai Lansheng alone?”
Qin Junlan: “Yes. No.”
System: “Then why did you leave so quickly after just a few words?”
Qin Junlan: “Those people blocked my way earlier, and I was alone. Why didn’t they dare lay a hand on me?”
System: “Because your strength is higher than theirs.”
Qin Junlan: “Two fists can’t take on a dozen. I’m not strong enough to overcome a large group by force.”
System: “Because your status is higher than theirs.”
Qin Junlan: “Status comes from strength, and strength only reveals itself through competition. Just like an employee at work may claim to be capable, but no one will believe them until they achieve something their competitors couldn’t. That’s when their true ability becomes clear.
Only with strength can you earn respect and status. The original owner of this body may not have been a good person, but she gained her position by proving herself during these gang activities. If I skip tonight, the status she fought for will slowly be stripped away.”
System: “It’s just missing one event. You’re overthinking it.”
Qin Junlan: “I hope I am.”
Clearly, taking a leave wasn’t going to work. She still needed this identity.
But participating in tonight’s gang activity meant she would have to leave Bai Lansheng unattended.
Qin Junlan returned to the riverside, still without a perfect solution.
She told Green Hair to go back first and said they would meet up later. Then she walked over to Bai Lansheng.
She placed all the food she had brought in front of her.
“I bought every flavor they had. You can choose whichever one you want.”
Each item came with a sample portion. She had clearly put effort into this. But Bai Lansheng didn’t want to choose anything.
Qin Junlan crouched down and gently patted her stomach. What had been a round little belly that morning was now flat.
“Aren’t you hungry?”
This shameless woman was touching her again. Bai Lansheng gritted her teeth and pushed the offending hand away.
Seeing her stubbornness, Qin Junlan sighed. Kids in their rebellious phase were so hard to deal with.
“What’s the point of being so stubborn? You need food to have the strength to keep running.”
Mentioning running again only made things worse. Just hearing the word annoyed Bai Lansheng. She made up her mind to ignore anything Qin Junlan said.
“Really not eating?” Qin Junlan shook the food slightly.
Seeing no response, she opened a bun and took a bite, chewing slowly.
The aroma spread through the air and teased the senses. Bai Lansheng’s stomach let out a loud growl. Then another, louder than before.
Bai Lansheng pressed her lips together, embarrassed and furious at her own body. Even if the other woman laughed at her, she absolutely refused to acknowledge her.
Just then, she saw a face moving closer. That pretty face was very near.
Bai Lansheng’s breath caught.
Just as it seemed their lips might touch, Qin Junlan blinked, gave her a mischievous smile, and pulled back. She swallowed the bite of food slowly, then opened her mouth to show it was empty.
“Ah, that bites gone. If you still don’t want to eat by the time I finish chewing the next one, I’ll have no choice but to feed you myself.”
Bai Lansheng: “!!!”
Qin Junlan: “So are you eating or not? The choice is yours.”
