Transmigrated into the Scummy Alpha of the Apocalypse Heroine (GL) - Chapter 8
As expected, the person who walked in was Ke Nian.
Qin Junlan gave her a quick look.
She no longer had her glasses or her coat.
The coat had been used as a makeshift rope, probably too wrinkled to wear again. As for the glasses, they had fallen when Ke Nian was knocked out, and Qin Junlan had not bothered to pick them up.
They were nowhere to be seen now. Ke Nian had probably woken up and failed to find them.
Without her glasses, Ke Nian had lost much of her refined aura. Now she just looked like an ordinary woman.
The timing of her arrival was very precise. She came in the moment the mission ended. If Qin Junlan had not restrained her earlier, Ke Nian might have ruined everything. That alone made Qin Junlan a little wary of her.
The system had not issued the next mission yet, so this gap must mean she was temporarily free.
In the split second between Ke Nian opening the door and walking in, Qin Junlan had already thought through many possibilities. In the end, she stayed seated. Ke Nian would not recognize her as the one who knocked her out.
What was strange, however, was Bai Lansheng’s silence. She did not even look at Ke Nian, as if the woman was just a stranger.
Ke Nian also ignored Qin Junlan completely. Her eyes went straight to Bai Lansheng, filled with pain and disappointment.
“Bai Lansheng, who is this woman? Why is she in your room? You’re even wearing matching robes. Did you two… No, how could you do this to me? What am I to you?”
Ke Nian looked genuinely heartbroken, but no one in the room shared her feelings. Qin Junlan looked thoughtful. Bai Lansheng said nothing at all, which made Ke Nian seem like she was performing a one-woman show.
As Ke Nian ranted, Qin Junlan began to reflect. If Bai Lansheng and Ke Nian were truly a couple, then she must have just interfered in someone else’s relationship and got caught red-handed.
It would be her first time being accused of cheating. But strangely, the entire scene felt familiar. Ke Nian’s aggressive tone and accusatory expression triggered something deep in her memory.
Where had she seen this before?
She had no idea.
Qin Junlan reviewed her own past. She had never been in a love triangle, not even had a chance to cheat. She hated meddling in other people’s relationships. So where did that feeling of déjà vu come from?
And why had holding Bai Lansheng’s hand earlier made her feel so strangely happy?
She could not find the answer, but the longer she thought about it, the more off everything seemed.
Still listening to Ke Nian rambling on, Qin Junlan finally interrupted in a cold voice. “Shut your mouth. No one here wants to hear what you have to say.”
Qin Junlan’s cold expression was frightening. Bai Lansheng flinched slightly.
Qin Junlan placed a hand gently on hers. “What’s wrong? Are you cold?”
Bai Lansheng gritted her teeth and quickly pulled her hand back. This shameless woman was taking advantage of her again.
The moment she withdrew her hand, Qin Junlan felt a strange wave of irritation. That odd and unwelcome emotion was starting to bother her more and more.
Frowning slightly, she removed the bandage from her hand and held Bai Lansheng’s hand again, trying to figure out the source of that emotion.
Qin Junlan’s intent was simple. But in Ke Nian’s eyes, their casual touching and pushing away looked flirtatious.
Especially since both of them were wearing matching bathrobes, and Bai Lansheng had her head lowered as if in shy silence.
Ke Nian felt deeply insulted.
Qin Junlan was clearly too difficult to confront directly, so Ke Nian turned her anger toward Bai Lansheng.
“You’ve disappointed me so much. You’ve embarrassed your parents. They didn’t raise you just to watch you fall like this. Lowering yourself to associate with someone like her? You don’t deserve me anymore. We are breaking up.”
She used Bai Lansheng’s parents as moral leverage to attack her, putting herself on a moral high ground. Qin Junlan raised an eyebrow at that. Shouldn’t she at least ask how Bai Lansheng was doing or demand that the intruder leave?
This was her version of breaking up?
Bai Lansheng still had her head down. She never looked at Ke Nian.
That made her look a little pitiful.
After all, first love was hard to forget. Being scolded like this by someone she once cared for would only leave deeper scars. Shouldn’t this be the moment for Qin Junlan to step in?
Qin Junlan cleared her throat and said, “Give me a break. You really think you’re something special? You think Bai Lansheng just picks up garbage off the street? She has better taste than that.”
“You think you’re better than me?” Ke Nian was so angry she laughed.
Qin Junlan nodded. “Absolutely. As one of Bai Lansheng’s suitors, you should know your place. It’s her choice whether she wants you, not the other way around. If you admit I’m better, maybe I’ll forgive you. If you don’t, I’ll understand. After all, getting dumped can really bruise your ego.”
Ke Nian may not have been famous in the art world, but she was respected. Being scolded by someone younger was a slap in the face.
“Who do you think you are?” she snapped. She released her spiritual pressure toward Qin Junlan, only to realize that Qin Junlan’s mental strength was much lower. Smirking, Ke Nian mocked her.
“So that’s your idea of being talented? You’re just a D-rank mental power weakling.”
Qin Junlan’s face turned pale. The mental pressure between Alphas directly affected the body. Her physical condition was already poor, and her mental strength was no match for Ke Nian’s. The strain on her body felt like wearing a suit made of lead.
Still, she stared straight at Ke Nian.
Her face was calm and cold.
Ke Nian felt momentarily unsure, but she quickly lifted her chin and pressed harder, increasing her mental suppression with a smug expression.
Qin Junlan slowly stood up.
Ke Nian was shorter than her and immediately felt the shift in pressure.
Qin Junlan might not know every detail about the A-B-O world, but one truth applied everywhere.
Play to your strengths.
She could not win a battle of mental strength. But if it came down to physical power, she had a chance.
So, she would meet violence with violence.
Qin Junlan pushed through Ke Nian’s mental pressure and stepped forward. Then she kicked Ke Nian hard in the knee.
Ke Nian collapsed, clutching her leg and groaning in pain. Qin Junlan stared down at her and said coldly, “Take your spiritual power back. Unless you want to lose the other leg too.”
Ke Nian swallowed hard and withdrew her power.
Qin Junlan felt the pressure lift from her body. She brushed her hands together and straightened up, then noticed Bai Lansheng was watching her.
When Qin Junlan noticed Bai Lansheng looking her way, Bai Lansheng quickly lowered her head again.
“What is it? Feeling sorry for her? Having too much empathy isn’t always a good thing.” Qin Junlan took the chance to explain herself. “And yes, I did kick you earlier, but you should have noticed I held back. If I had kicked you as hard as I kicked her, you wouldn’t even be able to stand right now.”
Bai Lansheng pressed her lips together. She still hated this shameless woman, but she didn’t mind watching Ke Nian get beaten up. The shameless woman was at the top of her hate list, but Ke Nian was a close second.
Qin Junlan asked, “How did you ever fall for someone like that?”
Bai Lansheng silently scoffed to herself. Ke Nian might be awful, but you’re not much better either.
Qin Junlan had no idea what Bai Lansheng was thinking. She looked at Ke Nian, still lying on the ground, and felt a bit conflicted.
This was bad. How was she supposed to continue playing her role now?
Normally, someone like her—a “shameless intruder”—should have made a quiet exit the moment the rightful partner appeared. But the “rightful partner” was now lying on the floor in pain. How exactly was she supposed to leave the scene?
Qin Junlan contacted the system in her mind.
Qin Junlan: Do you have a rewind function? Just rewind back to the moment when Ke Nian walked in.
Then she could hide on the balcony and let the scene of infidelity unfold without her getting involved.
System: Do you really think that’s possible?
Qin Junlan: Fair enough. I guess that was wishful thinking. Looking at the kind of rewards you give, I should have known. All your functions are basically useless.
System: So you’ve finally realized your performance was a mess?
While they were arguing mentally, Bai Lansheng suddenly stood up and walked out to the balcony.
She opened the window and leaned her body outside.
Qin Junlan froze in disbelief.
System: Ding. New mission issued: Stop Bai Lansheng from committing suicide.
Mission objective: Ensure the target individual grows up happy and healthy.
Mission duration: None.
Mission location: None.
Completion criteria: Determined by system.
Mission failure penalty: World reset.
Note: If the world resets, you will die too. Love and sparkles.
Qin Junlan let out a genuine shout.
“You have got to be kidding me!”
She dove forward and grabbed the collar of Bai Lansheng’s robe, yanking her back inside with all her strength. Luckily, she had not been too far away. If there had been even a bit more distance, no amount of diving or flying would have saved her in time.
Once she had pulled Bai Lansheng back, Qin Junlan was furious. She nearly slapped her across the face.
She had worked so hard on these missions, doing everything she could to survive, and now someone was just casually throwing away their life like it meant nothing.
Qin Junlan raised her hand high, ready to strike some sense into her, but when she saw Bai Lansheng’s pale face, her hand froze in midair.
She slowly lowered it.
Instead, she grabbed Bai Lansheng’s collar and pressed their foreheads together, pushing her back until there was nowhere left to retreat.
Qin Junlan stared into her eyes and growled.
“I won’t let you die like that. If you’re going to die, it’ll be because I wear you out in bed.”
The back of Bai Lansheng’s head already had a swollen bump from earlier. Now that it was being pressed against the hard edge of the window frame, the pain was twice as intense.
But even worse than the pain in her head was the pain in her arm.
The person she hated most in the world was gripping her arm tightly. Too tightly.
And that hand was trembling.
Bai Lansheng looked into Qin Junlan’s bloodshot eyes, completely confused.
Why would she try to save her?
