Transmigrated to the Interstellar Era to Raise Mermaids GL - Chapter 6
Hejia didn’t sleep well all night. She woke up early, finished her morning inspection work, and came to the beach, craning her neck in anticipation.
Seeing the sun high in the sky, Hejia looked at the still calm sea and asked, “Little Jade, do you think she will come today?”
The little turtle lazily lay on the sand without a reaction, indicating that it didn’t know either.
Yesterday, just as it was being laughed at with the name “Little Pearl” until its limbs were flailing skyward, the mermaid suddenly withdrew her hand, got up, and swiftly swam back into the ocean.
This Earthling stared blankly at the direction the mermaid disappeared for a long time, only noticing the turtle was belly-up and almost out of breath when she rushed to flip its body back over.
Thinking of this, the little turtle angrily scratched the sand with its claws.
So frustrating!
It couldn’t protest a name it disliked, unlike the mermaid.
Hejia had tossed and turned all night and guessed the reason. She raised her hand and hit her forehead, regretting, “It’s all my fault. How could I casually give someone a nickname? She must be angry!”
Little Jade, whose knee had been shot (a Chinese idiom meaning being unfairly affected), forcibly resisted the urge to roll its eyes. Calm down, calm down, I must respect my new owner!
It could only be angry at itself for why its whole body was so green!
As the person and the turtle sat on the beach sighing, the mermaid’s iconic golden long hair resurfaced, accompanied by a splash of water.
Hejia stared blankly as the mermaid swam all the way to her. Only then did she seem to wake from a dream and hastily stand up to greet her.
“You’re here!”
A huge surge of joy flushed Hejia’s cheeks. She excitedly said, “I was too presumptuous yesterday. I must apologize to you…”
Before Hejia could finish her sentence, she saw the mermaid’s tail lightly hook and open the lid of the cooler box beside her. She then pulled Hejia’s arm and stood behind the cooler box.
Immediately following, the scene from yesterday was reenacted: countless fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish flew out of the sea on their own, tracing one graceful parabola after another in the sky, all landing inside the cooler box in front of the two.
Such a precise and spectacular scene of creatures willingly netting themselves shocked Hejia no less than the first time she saw the “Goddess Scattering Flowers” (referring to a spectacular, almost magical sight).
The fresh seafood automatically piled up like a mountain in the cooler box. Suddenly, a seashell flew out of the sea with slightly too much force, heading straight for Hejia.
“Oh dear!” Hejia subconsciously shielded her head with her hand. The mermaid next to her was swift and alert, reaching out a hand to intercept the seashell in mid-air, and then tossing it back at the giant octopus who was in the process of throwing things from the sea.
The octopus hugged its head with its tentacles, whimpered, and swam away, conscientiously going to continue practicing the accuracy of its aerial throws.
Hejia cautiously lowered her arm, only to see the mermaid holding a white object up to her eyes, causing her to gasp in surprise.
It was a pearl as large as a pecan, smooth and round, with a few drops of wet water still clinging to it. Held in the mermaid’s palm, it quietly emitted a moist, pure white glow.
From the rain of seafood from the sky to the seashell turning into a pearl, it all seemed like instantaneous magic to Hejia, as if the mermaid had specially staged a splendid show for her.
Especially the sight of the mermaid holding the pearl and standing in front of her was more captivating than any grand or magnificent finale.
She didn’t want to ask how the magician did all this; merely appreciating it quietly was enough.
Seeing Hejia not reaching out to take it, the mermaid actively opened Hejia’s palm and placed the pearl into her hand.
“Eh, is this… for me?” Hejia widened her eyes in disbelief.
The mermaid smiled and nodded at her.
Wuwuwu, this mermaid is really, really too kind to her!
Seeing Hejia’s eyes instantly turn red, Orsa slightly furrowed her brow in confusion.
Before setting off today, she remembered that Hejia’s casually given nickname was “Little Pearl,” so she must like this thing very much. Orsa simply took one from the clamshell she lived in as compensation for not being able to tell Hejia her name.
She hadn’t expected Hejia’s reaction to a mere ordinary pearl to be so intense. Orsa vaguely remembered having quite a few good things. Once she recalled where she put them, she definitely had to take this Earthling to see them.
“I… I thought you were angry, and that you wouldn’t come today.” Hejia felt increasingly guilty as she spoke. Wiping her tears, she continued, “I keep bringing up your painful memories, but not only do you not blame me, you even give me so many gifts. I… I really…”
She choked up, unable to speak the rest of the words. So, she bent down to stroke the mermaid’s tail. The cool, smooth touch gradually calmed her turbulent heart.
The first time is new, the second time is familiar, and the third time one becomes numb. Although she didn’t know why this person started touching her tail again while speaking, seeing that Hejia had stopped crying, Orsa only lightly shook her tail twice and let her be.
Seeing Hejia stand up and then eagerly reach out her hand towards her again, Orsa understood: It turns out Earthlings like to use this method to calm their emotions.
So, with tacit understanding, she brushed the back of Hejia’s hand with her fish tail.
Hejia looked truly pitiful when she cried, like a shivering little bunny. Moreover, Orsa also hoped to eat soon.
After all, she was still very weak, and spending too long on the beach made her easily tired and sleepy.
The friendly signal from the mermaid made Hejia cheer up again.
Since there were only the two of them on the entire planet, she decided not to bring up the mermaid’s name or any topic related to the mermaid’s background until she thought of an absolutely perfect name.
She spread out the pearl in her hand and gently stroked it twice, recalling the sensation of the mermaid’s tail. She thought that although the name “Little Pearl” was a bit casual, it actually kind of suited her…
Hejia quickly shook her head. Where were her thoughts drifting to again!
Judging from the size and color of this pearl, it was clearly valuable. How could she accept such a precious gift?
“Um…” Hejia called out to the mermaid who was gliding towards the dining table, wanting to return the pearl to her, but changed her mind when the mermaid turned to face her.
Leaving aside the misunderstanding that returning the gift might cause, the mermaid was also stark naked. Having to hold such a large pearl in her hand would be quite inconvenient for her.
Seeing the sea breeze slightly lift the mermaid’s thick, beautiful long hair that was covering her front, Hejia quickly looked away, blushing, and said, “I just wanted to ask, is it okay to make spicy crab today?”
The mermaid nodded in joyful agreement, and Hejia walked to the cooking station and began to busy herself.
She took fresh shrimp and crab from the cooler box for the main course and remotely controlled Shelly to cut some side dishes like cabbage and green peppers from the vegetable garden and deliver them.
Seeing Shelly walk onto the beach and hand a basket of leafy vegetables to Hejia, the mermaid’s eyes flickered slightly, but she quietly watched Hejia deftly prepare another table of fragrant, nutritious dishes with both meat and vegetables.
“Ta-da! The piping hot spicy dry-pot shrimp is served!”
Hejia placed the last dish on the table and began to eat with the mermaid, who had been waiting with lowered hands.
Seeing which dish Hejia chose first, the mermaid also confidently picked up the same dish. Halfway through her focused eating, she noticed something was amiss.
Didn’t this Earthling usually talk incessantly at the dinner table? Why was she so quiet today?
The mermaid looked up at Hejia in confusion.
Hejia, who was engaged in a fierce internal struggle, suddenly met her pure azure eyes, instantly losing her composure. She shot up, exclaiming, “I need to go to the restroom!”
She quickly ran back to the hotel, slipped into her room, and took out her work protective suit from the wardrobe.
After no longer having to worry about the mermaid being well-fed, Hejia started contemplating the mermaid’s lack of clothes.
Mermaids were amphibious creatures that traveled between the ocean and the land. Ordinary fabrics would soak through underwater and cling to the body when they came ashore. Her clothes must be made of special, new materials.
For example, this protective suit provided by the Interstellar Administration Bureau would be very suitable.
However, when Hejia first arrived at the Cêzar Planet, the Interstellar Administration Bureau personnel had warned her that if she lost or damaged any of the work-issued items, she would have to pay to replace them herself.
Hejia was truly penniless, so she hadn’t dared to entertain this thought before.
Now that she had this large pearl, she definitely wouldn’t have to worry about the money to buy a protective suit, and she might even have some money left over to get the mermaid a voice emitter!
Hejia slowly walked back to the beach with the protective suit, looking at the endless expanse of the sea. Her heart was conflicted again.
The mermaid noticed her return, smiled, and waved at her, signaling Hejia to come over and eat together.
As she raised her arm, she incidentally moved the long hair in front of her chest, revealing half of a perfectly round and shapely curve.
Hejia’s heart immediately felt both sour and hot, as if scalded by boiling vinegar. She no longer hesitated and walked towards the mermaid.
Although she was afraid of the ocean, she almost never went into the sea, only using the protective suit once at the end of each month when sailing out.
But for the naked mermaid, this clothing was a necessity!
Furthermore, the Interstellar Administration Bureau sent people over every three months for a thorough maintenance check. If she reported to the Bureau that she had lost the protective suit, she just needed to be careful when sailing out at the end of next month, and a new protective suit would be delivered.
If all else failed, she would just wear a lifebuoy when sailing out at the end of next month!
As long as the money problem could be solved, there would always be more solutions than difficulties!
Hejia walked towards the mermaid step by step, looking at her composed and self-assured expression. Thinking that if it were herself who had to face her, and those messy other creatures, while completely naked, Hejia’s face burned red like the clouds at sunset.
How awkward and embarrassing that must be!
She rushed to the mermaid, holding up the protective suit, and said, “Thank you for the pearl you gave me! I don’t have anything valuable to give you either, so let me give you a piece of clothing!”
A look of surprise flashed in the mermaid’s eyes. She pointed at Hejia, indicating that she had seen Hejia wearing this gray, sporty shirt.
“Yes, this is my work suit for going out to sea. Although it’s not new, the fabric won’t get soaked by water, and it won’t cling to your body when you come ashore. It’s very suitable for you to wear.”
Hejia pointed to the button on the side of the shirt and explained to her, “There’s a switch here. If you press it, the clothes will automatically inflate and float, so be careful not to touch it.”
Orsa happily accepted the clothes.
She hadn’t entered a state of meditation for the past few days so as not to miss lunch.
Although she couldn’t remember more things, during these days of eating with Hejia, a lot of social common sense had naturally awakened in her consciousness.
Seeing that her action of bringing the long hair across her chest always made Hejia awkwardly look away, Orsa simply put the clothes on directly.
The fabric of the clothes was silky smooth, and it had a slight warming effect, carrying a trace of soft, sweet scent.
Just like the human in front of her, who blushed easily and looked like a doll, it smelled quite nice.
The athletic quick-drying shirt wrapped around the mermaid’s body, outlining her graceful and captivating curves, which, in turn, made Hejia even more hesitant to look directly at her.
She had been on the shore for a long time today, and Orsa felt a slight fatigue again. She still needed to conserve her strength to swim back to her clamshell, so she immediately got up, nodded to Hejia in thanks, and quickly swam towards the ocean.
Hejia watched the mermaid’s receding figure, seeing how the gray shirt made her figure look taller and straighter, and her silver-white fish body even more dazzling and splendid like a nebula. She sighed in her heart, “Sure enough, people with outstanding charisma look good in anything! When I wear it, it just looks like a completely ordinary athletic shirt…”
Oh no, it suddenly occurred to her that she hadn’t had time to wash that protective suit!
Watching the mermaid who had already plunged into the ocean, Hejia took a few steps back in dismay, covering her “steamed” cheeks with both hands to try and cool them down, but she couldn’t stop the heat from intensely rushing to the top of her head.
