- Chapter 12 - Soothing
Reading about such things in novels was entirely different from experiencing them firsthand.
Watching someone being devoured by zombies as if they were a dessert was even more nauseating.
Su Tang nearly vomited instantly, but she swallowed down the bile.
Clutching her knife tightly, she hesitated for a moment before following the main group into the house.
Su Jianyu’s broadsword flashed rapidly, felling two zombies with a single swing. But even their speed was too late.
Chen Bin was no longer recognizable as human, resembling a broken toy skeleton.
Before Su Tang could take more than a few steps, a zombie head rolled to her feet, its jagged teeth still snapping open and shut.
In the novel’s lore, these zombies wouldn’t die unless their brain’s central region was destroyed.
Su Tang gripped her dagger tightly, took a deep breath, aimed at the back of the zombie’s head, and slowly stabbed downward.
But she quickly realized an embarrassing truth: she simply didn’t have the strength. The original owner of this body had never lifted a finger, her hands soft and uncalloused.
Naturally, she lacked the wrist and arm strength needed to pierce the zombie’s brain.
Su Tang: ……
Aside from the original owner’s privileged status, her physical condition was a disastrous starting point for Su Tang.
After dealing with the zombie, Su Jianyu sighed.
“You’re too impatient and reckless. You’re not fit to marry my daughter.”
He turned to leave, and no one stopped him. Only Bai Yanxing noticed Su Tang’s distress. She crouched down and helped her up.
Together, they slowly made their way back to the Black Wolf Gang’s camp.
Su Tang had hot water allocated to her today.
After the snowfall, finding water became much easier, as every snowflake could melt into a droplet.
As long as it was boiled thoroughly, allowing the flames to purify it, there shouldn’t be any problems.
The Black Wolf Gang at least had electricity, so they could heat water using water heaters. Bai Yanxing twisted the water heater’s knob, a strange sensation washed over him.
Since the Apocalypse began, she hadn’t used modern technology in ages.
He’d always felt like a hunter in a primitive tribe, hunting with a longbow.
But…
Bai Yanxing glanced at Su Tang, who was sitting on a chair, her mind elsewhere, as if she hadn’t fully recovered from the day’s events.
The Black Wolf Gang didn’t hold funerals for cowards, so Chen Bin’s funeral was attended only by her family; most people didn’t care.
In the Apocalypse, death was commonplace.
If one grieved for every person who died, they’d likely be drowning in sorrow every day.
“What’s wrong?”
Bai Yanxing crouched down to examine Su Tang’s eyes, noticing her red-tipped nose and slightly damp eyelashes, especially the rims of her eyes, which were flushed crimson.
“It’s nothing…” Su Tang sniffled, unwilling to show weakness in front of the Female Lead.
But then her wrist was gripped, the slightly calloused skin brushing against her wrist, creating an indescribable sensation.
“I know you’re upset. This must be the first time you’ve seen something like this.”
It wasn’t hard to imagine that Su Tang had lived under her father’s protective wing, a stark contrast to Bai Yanxing, who had fought alongside her father on the front lines.
“But this is the Apocalypse. Things like this happen every day.”
“Still, if I were to die someday, I definitely wouldn’t want you to be so…”
Before she could finish the word “sad,” Su Tang’s lips were covered.
Even in her grief, Su Tang couldn’t bear to hear the Female Lead utter such a death flag.
“You won’t die. You’re incredibly strong,” Su Tang sniffled, resolving to pull herself together. Even without a system, she would find a way!
She refused to believe she could die. Even if she did, she’d just become a zombie, and in another decade or so, she’d be a hero again.
Seeing that she had successfully diverted Su Tang’s attention, Bai Yanxing chuckled softly. She reached out, wrapped her arms around her waist, and effortlessly lifted her into her arms.
Su Tang’s waist was remarkably supple, unlike most people he’d encountered in the Apocalypse, who were gaunt and sallow-skinned. Her pleasantly plump figure was undeniably alluring; once you glanced at her, you couldn’t help but look again.
Bai Yanxing pulled her into the bathroom.
“Where are your spare clothes?”
Su Tang pointed to the wardrobe. Moments later, Bai Yanxing returned, carrying two sets of clean clothes, which she placed in the nearby laundry basket.
Su Tang froze.
“What are you doing?”
“Washing with you.”
“Hot water is precious. We should conserve it whenever possible.”
Though Bai Yanxing was slightly embarrassed, her resourcefulness outweighed her discomfort.
Su Tang: !
She had to admit, her face was burning.
Normally, she was the one initiating the flirting with the Female Lead, but sharing a bath? This was far too embarrassing.
Letting the Female Lead wipe her body was one thing.
But the thought of them being completely naked together made Su Tang’s toes curl into the floor.
It wasn’t so awkward she wanted to dig a castle out of the ground, but she was definitely feeling flustered.
Bai Yanxing gave Su Tang no time to think. She reached for the zipper of her outer jacket. Since outerwear didn’t need frequent washing, she hung it aside.
Next came her wool shirt. Though slightly worn, the tight-fitting shirt perfectly accentuated her slender, shapely figure.
Su Tang instinctively covered her eyes, but her fingers couldn’t resist peeking through the gaps.
No wonder she’s the Female Lead—her body is incredible.
Bai Yanxing turned around, a hint of embarrassment coloring her ears. She casually brushed a strand of hair across her cheek to hide the blush.
“You should take off your clothes too…”
Having reached this point, Su Tang had no choice but to comply. She obediently turned around, slowly removed her clothes, and placed them on the nearby rack. Then she turned on the hot water.
Hot water cascaded down, filling the room with steam.
Su Tang’s vision blurred in the mist, but Bai Yanxing moved closer, her fair skin gleaming like jade.
Water droplets slid down her jawline, tracing a path to her collarbone before disappearing into the depths of her shirt.
Su Tang’s eyelashes fluttered, unable to look away, her heart pounding as if it would burst from her chest.
Without hesitation, Bai Yanxing squeezed a dollop of shampoo into her palm.
To be honest…
In the Apocalypse, most supplies were manufactured four years ago—that was if you were lucky. If not, you might only find items from five or six years prior.
They were still usable, but their effectiveness had diminished significantly.
Hence, the lather was sparse.
Bai Yanxing turned off the water and began massaging the shampoo into Su Tang’s hair.
“I’ll help you wash it. It’ll be faster this way.”
Though her fingers gently massaged her dark hair, Bai Yanxing’s gaze kept drifting downward. She couldn’t help but notice how incredibly fair Su Tang’s skin was.
His casual touches felt like unconscious teasing.
By the time she realized what she was doing, Bai Yanxing was overwhelmed with shame.
How could I take advantage of helping her wash her hair to… grope her?
What’s the difference between me and those perverts?
