- Transmigrating as a Cannon Fodder in the Apocalypse, Seducing the Mad Female Lead
- Chapter 14 - The God of Close-Range Archery!
As the icy winter descended, the Black Wolf Gang members ventured out more frequently to gather as many winter supplies as possible, such as cotton blankets.
Bai Yanxing’s current mission was patrol duty. Su Tang was still accompanied by two bodyguards, though she felt their conspicuous presence was unnecessary. However, she acknowledged that each additional person provided an extra layer of security.
Several zombies roamed the area, their dark brown bodies and crimson veins stark against the white snow. Corrupted by the virus, they barely resembled humans anymore.
“I’ll teach you how to use it,” Bai Yanxing said, scanning their surroundings. Finding only a few slow-moving zombies nearby, she decided to use this opportunity to teach Su Tang self-defense. The Browning pistol, with its manageable recoil, was ideal for women to practice with.
Bai Yanxing first drew her black bow. The freezing wind would affect the arrow’s trajectory, so she needed to shoot at close range.
She slowly stepped through the snow, approaching the zombies one by one.
An arrow pierced the back of another zombie’s skull. Confirming that only one remained, Bai Yanxing cautiously approached Su Tang.
She demonstrated how to hold the gun, release the safety, and aim.
Su Tang took a deep breath, aiming at the zombie’s head.
A sharp crack echoed across the snow-covered landscape as the zombie collapsed, its black bl00d staining the white ground.
Su Tang barely had time to celebrate, let alone flash a smile at Bai Yanxing, when a dark figure suddenly darted through the air. With long limbs and a hulking frame, it resembled a giant ape.
It was a Jumping Zombie.
Having lain in ambush for a long time, the creature had clearly developed rudimentary intelligence, understanding how to hunt. It had even used the two ordinary zombies as bait to lure humans closer.
The two bodyguards trailing behind Su Tang immediately swung their broadswords, but the Jumping Zombie proved highly agile, landing only to spring back into the air, evading their attacks.
One of the bodyguards couldn’t resist firing her gun, hitting the Jumping Zombie in the leg. But the creature, impervious to pain, was only enraged. It bared its fangs and claws, lunging at Su Tang, who was closest.
As the bodyguards moved to intercept, two more Jumping Zombies sprang from behind, forcing them to turn and fight. They couldn’t afford to fail in rescuing Su Tang, or they’d lose their own lives as well.
In moments of crisis, people often make mistakes due to trembling hands. Su Tang had managed to steady herself, minimizing the shaking.
She fired two shots from her Browning pistol.
One shot missed entirely, while the other only grazed the Jumping Zombie’s shoulder. With twice the health of ordinary zombies, the creature remained unfazed.
Moreover, any shot that didn’t hit the brainstem was a complete waste.
Just as Su Tang’s life hung by a thread, Bai Yanxing charged forward. Too close to draw her bow, she resorted to another method.
The bowstring tightened around the Jumping Zombie’s neck as Bai Yanxing yanked it backward. With a fierce kick, she struck the zombie’s knee joint.
The force of the blow sent the Jumping Zombie tumbling forward. Seizing the opportunity, Bai Yanxing snatched her bow, drew her dagger, and planted her foot on the zombie’s nape.
The dagger plunged deep.
If this were a game,
it would be a breathtaking execution animation.
Bai Yanxing released her grip and turned to Su Tang.
“Are you alright?”
She had promised to protect her, and she would never break her word.
Su Tang nodded, her heart still pounding.
No wonder she’s the Female Lead. Who says archers are weak in close combat? This is insane!
“I’m fine…”
Su Tang, still shaken, managed a faint smile, her admiration for Bai Yanxing growing even stronger.
Even after years of surviving the Apocalypse, she doubted she could ever achieve such skill.
To dare to take on a Jumping Zombie with bare hands!
In the novel’s lore, Jumping Zombies were already akin to elite monsters in a game.
Despite today’s heart-stopping events, thankfully, no casualties occurred.
Bai Yanxing continued patrolling the route, but no more zombies appeared along the way. After all, several years had passed since the Apocalypse, and the zombie population was far smaller than before.
However, while the number of zombies had decreased, they had been replaced by evolved, more dangerous variants, such as Jumping Zombies.
And the infected animals were no less of a threat.
Su Tang felt uneasy. As an ordinary person who had transmigrated into this brutal world without any system assistance, she couldn’t help but feel insecure. Her fingers still trembled uncontrollably.
She secured the safety catch on her weapon.
Su Tang slowly followed behind Bai Yanxing, feeling utterly ashamed of her earlier performance.
How could someone like her possibly survive in the Apocalypse? It seemed nearly impossible.
Clinging tightly to the Female Lead’s coattails seemed like the only reliable strategy, given the protagonist’s author-granted golden cheat codes.
After completing their patrol and finding no more zombies, the group returned.
“Why are you so distracted?”
Bai Yanxing noticed that the person beside her had been unusually quiet, much colder than when they had set out.
“Am I really that useless?” Su Tang asked, taking a deep breath to suppress the bitterness rising in her throat.
“You hit your target on your first shot. You’re not useless at all,” Bai Yanxing replied with a smile.
“Jumping Zombies are really tough,” she explained. Bai Yanxing had coined the term “Jumping Zombie”; some called them “Frog Zombies,” but the names varied.
He reached out a slender hand and gently rubbed Su Tang’s brown knitted hat, as if petting a cat that had misbehaved.
Bai Yanxing’s deep, soothing voice was undeniably comforting when she tried to reassure someone, and what she said was true.
Su Tang was already growing stronger, so there was no need to pour cold water on her efforts. Many people would freeze up and lose their words when confronted with zombies.
After completing their patrol, the two returned to their room. Su Tang finally let out a sigh of relief after wiping the bloodstains from her face.
In this world’s setting, being bitten would turn you into a zombie, and inhaling enough of the red mist would also trigger the transformation.
These red mists were typically released by higher-level Zombies upon death.
Otherwise, humans couldn’t be infected.
Despite everything she’d been through, Su Tang still had time to analyze the plot. The Female Lead hadn’t seen the Female Lead in days, proving her plan was working perfectly.
The Black Wolf Gang’s cafeteria was housed in a large, separate building. After changing clothes, the two headed there for a meal.
They hadn’t taken more than a few steps when they encountered a group of men. Their eyes burned with a desire for Su Tang that seemed about to spill over.
In the Apocalypse, most women were pale and emaciated, or ruthless characters like Bai Yanxing, whose mere touch could strip flesh from bone.
Su Tang, with her spring-like eyes and slightly plump figure, appeared particularly alluring to the men.
Previously, Chen Bin’s intimidating presence had kept their gazes furtive. But now, their fervent stares seemed to plead for a chance to become Su Tang’s next fiancé.
A stunning woman and the heir to the Black Wolf Gang’s leadership—either prospect left them ravenous with longing.
