- Chapter 19 - The Taste of Embracing the Waist
Su Jianyu knew Bai Yanxing’s capabilities, so she had wanted to include her in the team from the start. As for her daughter…
He had a vague sense that she would inevitably follow Bai Yanxing.
Therefore, she didn’t press the matter further.
When Su Tang mentioned that Bai Yanxing knew how to use firearms, Su Jianyu smiled and asked, “What kind of guns are you familiar with?”
Firearms came in various types, but ordinary people were most likely to encounter the Type 95 rifles dropped by the zombie army.
“Someone taught me,” Bai Yanxing replied vaguely. “They all operate on the same fundamental principles.”
Su Tang, walking beside them, couldn’t suppress a smile. The Female Lead probably knows everything, she thought.
After all, this was a novel, not bound by the strict logic of reality. If that were the case, neither Evil Gods nor zombies would exist in the first place.
“Alright then,” Su Jianyu said, handing Bai Yanxing a handgun with a handcrafted leather holster. “Take this pistol. Since you know how to use it, make sure every bullet hits a zombie’s brainstem. Zombies don’t reproduce; each one we kill is one less to worry about.”
Bai Yanxing nodded and accepted the weapon—a Type 92 pistol.
She hung the pistol at her waist, but her fingers remained tightly gripped around her bowstring. Since using it to strangle the Jumping Zombie last time, Bai Yanxing had meticulously cleaned the bowstring, eliminating the lingering stench.
Seeing this, Su Tang squeezed closer. The Female Lead’s gun was slightly larger than her own, but… she couldn’t handle such a weapon anyway.
Her arm and the web of her hand would probably go numb from the recoil.
“I heard we’re riding horses. Yanxing, can you ride?”
Bai Yanxing nodded.
“Why do I get the feeling you’re just… all-around capable?” Su Tang asked, genuinely surprised.
“When things get urgent, even if you don’t know how, you just cling to the horse’s back and adapt quickly enough.”
Having survived four years in the Apocalypse, remaining vigorous and refusing to join any factions, Bai Yanxing’s adaptability was truly remarkable.
“Then… could you teach me?” Su Tang asked cautiously, their relationship already far more intimate than before.
“Why ask someone else? Dad can teach you too!” Su Jianyu turned around at this, only to see her daughter staring intently at Bai Yanxing, her eyes filled with admiration and adoration. A wave of disappointment washed over him.
Ah… daughters grow up too fast to stay by their fathers’ sides.
Su Jianyu couldn’t help but think.
“Dad, aren’t you supposed to be leading the group? Teaching me would just waste time.”
Only then did Su Tang avert her gaze, explaining why she didn’t want Su Jianyu to teach her. The truth was, she only wanted the Female Lead to teach her.
“Then thank you for thinking of me, Tangtang,” Su Jianyu said with a smile, her heart swelling with emotion once more. She was deeply moved by her daughter’s consideration; it had been a long time since she had felt such genuine care from her.
Outside the Inner City, the Outer City residents were preparing their equipment. Mounted archers rode the perimeter, while Black Wolf Gang members in trucks held firearms, scanning their surroundings.
About four pickup trucks carried electrical wires and repair toolboxes. The key electrical engineers were seated separately, while the workers rode in the trucks at the center of the convoy.
Su Jianyu understood the principle of not putting all her eggs in one basket, so each vehicle carried only one or two intellectuals.
“Mom, take care of yourself,” Bai Yanxing said, patting Zhou Yulan’s aging, wrinkled hand as she watched her climb into the passenger seat of a pickup truck.
As the door closed, Bai Yanxing turned to look at the horse assigned to him—a black mare of moderate height, with a roughly made wooden saddle.
It was likely manufactured by the Black Wolf Gang themselves.
Perhaps even this horse had been raised by the Black Wolf Gang. Horse and cow dung were both valuable resources, used as fertilizer and fuel.
On the grasslands, people would collect cow dung, stacking it into tall walls. Once dried by the wind, these walls could be set ablaze for warmth, though the smell was undoubtedly unpleasant.
Still, it provided a source of heat.
“I’ll help you up. Hold onto the saddle, and I’ll take the reins.”
Bai Yanxing reached out to steady Su Tang by the waist. She recalled her first time riding a horse—a black warhorse, its back already infested with maggots, trapped in the backyard of a house.
The flowers and vegetation in the garden had been completely devoured. If she and her father hadn’t found it, the horse would likely have starved to death.
Her father had learned to ride horses during her travels and taught Bai Yanxing the basics.
But when they were truly being chased by zombies, Bai Yanxing couldn’t remember her father’s lessons. She could only grip the reins tightly and urge the horse into a frantic gallop.
She had single-handedly drawn away hundreds of zombies, a surging tide of undead creatures relentlessly pursuing her like a scene from a sci-fi apocalypse movie.
Back then, to steer the horse clear of dangerous obstacles, Bai Yanxing had developed blisters on her palms from gripping the reins so tightly.
How different those days were from this leisurely ride.
Joining the Black Wolf Gang might not be so bad after all, Bai Yanxing thought, her heart stirring slightly as she gazed at the girl’s profile.
His arm, wrapped around Su Tang’s waist, seemed to sink into the soft flesh of her abdomen. Bai Yanxing’s ears flushed crimson, like the last few wild hawthorns clinging to winter branches.
Vivid red… vivid red.
Su Tang was lifted onto the horse’s back. The black steed merely shifted its weight a few steps, showing no resistance—a testament to its exceptionally gentle temperament.
In one fluid motion, Bai Yanxing stepped onto the saddle and swung her long leg over the horse’s back.
His arms encircled Su Tang’s slender waist, a soft warmth pressing against her spine, making every hair on her body stand on end.
Su Tang bit her lip lightly.
This position, with her holding her from behind, felt strange.
Fine, I admit my thoughts are too impure. I should have read fewer smutty novels in the past.
Bai Yanxing gripped the reins tightly, squeezed the horse’s flanks, and the steed fell into step with the main group.
The pickup truck’s engine hummed, with a large cargo truck leading the way. Hearing the commotion, zombies swarmed from all directions like a rising tide.
However, they were quickly struck by bullets and arrows.
After all, they were outnumbered and many had survived the Apocalypse, knowing how to deal with these monsters.
Since Bai Yanxing and Su Tang were riding the same horse, Bai Yanxing couldn’t easily draw her bow. She stayed in the middle of the group, skillfully dodging attacks.
After a while, the wave of zombies was annihilated, and silence returned to the surroundings.
“I’ll teach you how to ride now,” Bai Yanxing said.
“Here, hold the reins.”
As she spoke, her lips brushed against Su Tang’s earlobe, the warmth seeping into her ear canal.
Su Tang found it almost unbearable, but she still reached out and grasped the reins. Immediately, a pair of hands slightly larger than hers enveloped the back of her hand.
The palms were rough, hardened by years of survival in the Apocalypse. Bai Yanxing was no delicate woman.
“Move with the horse’s rhythm. Don’t hold the reins too tight…”
As Su Tang listened, she tried her best to ignore Bai Yanxing’s closeness.
Though she had seen the Female Lead’s figure before, experiencing it firsthand revealed what it truly meant to be “well-endowed.”
