 - Chapter 2 - The Ultimate Plan to Live Off Others

Su Tang tossed two more dry logs into the fireplace. As she watched the shivering woman and woman, she struggled to find the right words.
After all, just moments ago, she had been comfortably reading a novel in bed, only to suddenly find herself transported into this world.
“Are you hungry? I’ll get you something to eat,” Su Tang said, rummaging through the cabinets. In the Apocalypse, most food had already rotted, especially frozen goods in refrigerators that had failed due to power outages.
Canned goods, which could last six or seven years, were now considered the best food available.
Su Tang pulled out a can of canned pork, inwardly marveling at her character’s status. Even as a cannon fodder character, her social standing was surprisingly high.
In the Apocalypse, being able to eat canned pork was a luxury.
She placed the can by the fireplace to warm it up. Eating canned pork alone could be a bit dry, so she also found two hard, stale steamed buns and set them nearby to heat up as well.
“No need,” the woman said. “Just saving us is already a great help.”
“But… Little Girl… I beg you, could you give us some fever medicine? Our daughter has a fever, and I’m afraid she won’t make it through the winter.”
The woman knelt down. They say a man’s knees are worth gold, but she couldn’t care less about that now. Saving her daughter’s life was all that mattered.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have risked her life by sneaking into a wolf’s den to steal medicine.
Su Tang raised an eyebrow. This was the moment she’d been waiting for.
She needed the Female Lead to come to her willingly.
By doing everything the Female Lead had done beforehand, Bai Yanxing should be moved by her actions. Su Tang had always loved the Female Lead most when reading the novel, feeling little connection to the Female Lead.
He was always overflowing with saintly compassion, trying to save everyone, good or bad, which often led to the Female Lead being ambushed by others.
“Of course,” Su Tang said slowly, drawing out her words. “Since I’ve saved you, I’ll naturally save your daughter too.”
“Where is she?”
Su Tang gently coaxed.
She had already devised a special plan to find a powerful backer. When it came to clinging to a strong figure, neither the obsessive and arrogant villain nor the ridiculously lucky side characters could compare to the Female Lead’s immortal golden body.
Therefore, Bai Yanxing, the war goddess Female Lead, was undoubtedly the best “big shot” to latch onto.
“She must still be waiting for us outside…”
The woman lowered her gaze. She wasn’t lying. Bai Yanxing had forced her way into the shelter with two friends, despite her illness, because her parents hadn’t returned.
There, she witnessed her parents being brutally harmed.
From that moment on, she harbored a deep hatred for Su Jianyu—Su Tang’s current cheap father.
Though just a cannon fodder character, the author at least had the decency to give her a name. When Su Tang saw her own name appear in the book, she couldn’t help but chuckle.
Perfect!
He’s just cannon fodder, with barely any screen time. There’s no way I could transmigrate into this story.
But reality taught Su Tang never to set up any flags.
She was slapped in the face so hard it echoed.
Even a cannon fodder character who only appeared for a page or two? She’d hit the jackpot.
“Once you’re finished eating, we’ll go find her. I’ll figure out how to get the medicine.”
Su Tang finished speaking, then used a knife to open the roasted canned pork. The steaming aroma filled the room, and both women swallowed hard, clearly having gone without food for a long time.
As night fell, bonfires blazed throughout the shelter, their orange flames dancing like warm harbors in the darkness.
Bai Yanxing was found by her parents within the shelter and brought to Su Tang’s door, supported on either side.
“We told you, Mom and Dad could just get the medicine,” they said gently, their eyes filled with concern rather than genuine reproach. “Why did you sneak into the shelter?”
“I was worried about you,” Bai Yanxing managed to say before her head swam and she collapsed forward.
Just then, the door opened, and she fell into a warm embrace.
Su Tang caught him, her arms wrapping around him. She saw that Bai Yanxing’s hair was already covered in snow, her ears frozen red.
At just twenty years old, her face still radiated youthful vitality. Not everyone matures at twenty; some retain a youthful, girlish charm even into their thirties—a natural, ageless beauty.
“I’ve prepared medicine for him,” Su Tang said. “You should rest now. The shelter will assign you work tomorrow.”
Su Tang hugged Bai Yanxing tightly.
If she had a tail, it would be wagging furiously right now. With the Female Lead secured, her seduction plan could finally begin.
“But…”
The parents hesitated. After all, she was their biological daughter, and handing her over to a stranger felt inappropriate.
Even though Su Tang had saved their lives earlier that day, in the Apocalypse, everyone was wary, and trust was a rare commodity.
“She has a high fever. Staying in a warm place might help her recover.”
“The other rooms don’t have enough firewood to keep them warm.”
Su Tang subtly nudged the Female Lead’s parents.
In the Apocalypse, every resource was scarce. Firewood wasn’t something you could burn casually; most of it was needed to build high walls to defend against zombie attacks.
Hearing Su Tang’s words, Bai She could only glance hesitantly at her wife, who gave a slight nod.
They couldn’t possibly squeeze into the leader’s daughter’s room themselves.
Letting Bai Yanxing stay there alone would be best.
If Su Tang truly intended to harm them, she wouldn’t have intervened earlier; she would have let the cleaver fall.
“Thank you for your help,” Bai She said gratefully.
Su Tang watched as the couple left the room, glancing back repeatedly as they went.
Su Tang cradled Bai Yanxing in her arms and gently laid her on the bed. The firewood in the fireplace still burned brightly. She poured some hot water from the kettle beside the hearth into a basin.
After finding the medicine, Su Tang fed Bai Yanxing the pills.
Bai Yanxing groggily opened her eyes and saw a strikingly beautiful girl feeding her medicine. She swallowed almost instinctively.
His delicate brows furrowed slightly.
“Thank you…”
Bai Yanxing knew this woman had saved her parents, so she immediately expressed her gratitude.
“You’re welcome.”
“Can you take off your clothes yourself?” Su Tang suddenly asked, making Bai Yanxing deeply embarrassed.
“What are you going to do?”
“Help you clean up. You’re sweaty, and if you don’t wipe it off, you’ll start to smell.”
Su Tang gestured toward the basin of water, but her mind was already plotting. She would be meticulously attentive to the Female Lead, making her utterly dependent on her.
That way, the Female Lead wouldn’t even think about the Female Lead.
It was a bit underhanded.
But in the Apocalypse, where she wasn’t born with superhuman strength, survival was a struggle. Relying on the Female Lead was her best bet.
This was Su Tang’s meticulously crafted plan for living off the Female Lead.
