- Transmigrating as a Cannon Fodder in the Apocalypse, Seducing the Mad Female Lead
- Chapter 23 - She's Infected!
Su Tang slowly got dressed, her body temperature a few degrees lower than before. Still, she had helped the Female Lead through the most critical period.
Bai Yanxing had fought while injured many times before. Though it was painful, she had long since learned to endure it. She didn’t think much of it.
Looking up, she saw only two ways out of the storage room: the hole in the ceiling and the path they had entered through.
The monster was nearly immortal and cannibalized its own kind. Taking the latter route would be like serving it dinner. After a moment’s hesitation, Bai Yanxing decided to climb through the ceiling.
He couldn’t rely on Su Jianyu anymore.
No matter the circumstances, one must learn to save oneself to have any hope.
Unfortunately, Su Tang had moved almost all the tall cabinets to barricade the Giant Zombie. To use these cabinets to reach the ceiling, they would have to remove the ones blocking the iron door—a risky move.
Yet Bai Yanxing hesitated only briefly before deciding to proceed with the plan.
She couldn’t just sit and wait to die; those words would never appear in her dictionary or life’s creed.
“Su Tang, I need you,” Bai Yanxing said. She rarely asked for help, but now, weakened by her injuries, she could only hope Su Tang would lend a hand.
“What is it?” Su Tang replied, her gaze fixed on the snow-covered hole in the ceiling.
Their thoughts seemed to converge.
“The zombies haven’t been banging on the walls for a while now,” Bai Yanxing explained. “Let’s carefully move the cabinet over there. With it, we can climb up to the ceiling.”
Su Tang nodded without hesitation or fear, leaving Bai Yanxing stunned for a moment.
“What are you staring at?” Su Tang asked in a low voice, already beginning to move the cabinet. They needed to lift the heavy metal cabinet completely to avoid making any noise that might alert the zombies.
“I didn’t think you’d agree,” Bai Yanxing said, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Gripping the cabinet with both hands, she bit her lip, enduring the pain from her wound. She was grateful for the stitches; lifting the cabinet without them would have undoubtedly caused her to hemorrhage again.
“If you don’t agree, we’ll both be trapped here to die.”
“Even though zombies might break in, Yanxing… dying together would be kind of romantic, don’t you think?”
“If reincarnation exists, I’ll definitely be your neighbor in the next life. That way, I’ll be your childhood sweetheart.”
Bai Yanxing: ……
She realized Su Tang possessed a naive optimism and nodded slightly.
“Alright.”
They moved the metal cabinet, but before they could take more than a few steps, the zombie in the adjacent room seemed to sense their presence.
It lunged forward like a tiger, clawing frantically at the iron door, quickly stripping away the blue paint.
Bai Yanxing and Su Tang quickened their pace, barely managing to position the cabinet beneath the hole in the ceiling when the door on the other side was kicked open.
“Fire!” Su Jianyu’s voice boomed with authority.
His Type 95 assault rifle spat bullets into the zombie’s head in rapid succession. Hundreds of rounds rained down, enough to fell even a monster made of iron and bone.
The Giant Zombie struggled briefly before collapsing limply to the ground.
“Tie it up, drag it outside, and burn it.”
Su Jianyu let out a sigh of relief, realizing they had discovered these monsters in other parts of the Hydroelectric Dam as well.
Fortunately, she had come prepared with ample gunpowder and ammunition this time. Otherwise, they would have been wiped out by these never-before-seen Giant Zombies.
After dealing with the immediate threat, Su Jianyu entered the room. The sight of zombie corpses strewn across the floor made her heart clench with anxiety. The survivor who had escaped claimed her daughter had fled to another room, but Su Jianyu couldn’t be sure if it was true.
He glanced up and immediately spotted two figures locked behind an iron gate. One was pale-faced, while her daughter stood beside her.
“Thank goodness, Tangtang! You’re safe!”
Su Jianyu raised an eyebrow, her voice barely concealing her relief as she hurried to the gate.
“Dad…”
Su Tang gazed at the woman before her, who had led a team to rescue her. A wave of gratitude washed over her. It seemed her transmigrating into this novel wasn’t entirely without advantages. At least she had a Chief for a father—a powerful leader who could save her life in critical moments.
The iron gate swung open, and a faint metallic scent of bl00d hung in the air.
Su Tang supported Bai Yanxing, but the others couldn’t help but let their imaginations run wild when they saw the large bloodstain on her abdomen. After all, it seemed absurd that the two of them had managed to evade the Giant Zombie’s attack while remaining here.
One of the women approached.
“I’m sorry, Miss Su, but we need to check if she’s been bitten by a zombie.”
“Any contact with bodily fluids could be infectious.”
“Even if zombie bl00d splashed into Miss Bai’s wounds, it could lead to infection.”
Two more women stepped forward, drawing on their extensive experience to isolate Bai Yanxing.
“Don’t touch her!”
Su Tang knew her actions were irrational, but she drew her Browning pistol anyway. The Female Lead was too weak to be quarantined alone.
Everyone froze in shock.
If she wasn’t infected, wouldn’t she agree to quarantine?
Miss Su’s reaction was strikingly similar to how Bai Yanxing would have acted if infected. Even Su Jianyu, who doted on her daughter, frowned slightly.
While she admired Bai Yanxing’s resourcefulness and agility in surviving the Apocalypse as a young woman, she couldn’t accept her daughter being with someone who could turn into a zombie at any moment.
He was about to speak when Bai Yanxing cut her off.
“I’m not infected. Su Tang is just worried about my injuries. Don’t worry, I’ll go to the Quarantine Zone myself.”
“I want to ask… is my mother alright?”
Bai Yanxing raised her hands, her body trembling from exhaustion, but her mind remained clear.
“She’s fine. Zhou Yulan is doing well,” Su Jianyu explained, relieved that Bai Yanxing had taken control of the situation. She really didn’t want to argue with her daughter.
“But your injuries are so severe…” Su Tang frowned. She could ignore the rest of the world, but she couldn’t abandon the Female Lead.
Staying by the Female Lead’s side meant being protected by her halo. Without her, I wouldn’t even know how I’d die.
Take today, for example. If it weren’t for the Female Lead’s Halo, that escape door wouldn’t have appeared, and I’d likely be a zombie’s snack by now.
“I’ll go with you. We’ll quarantine together.”
“Bai Yanxing, you need someone to take care of you.”
Su Tang reholstered her gun and reached out to grasp Bai Yanxing’s fingers, their palms pressed together.
Just like always.
“Tangtang…”
Su Jianyu clearly didn’t want things to turn out this way.
“Dad, I’ve been in this room the whole time. If I say Bai Yanxing isn’t infected, then she isn’t. But some people… they slammed the door shut on us.”
“If it weren’t for that storage room, you wouldn’t be seeing me today.”
Su Tang remained calm and composed, her focus unwavering. She had always known her objective.
And she knew she had fallen for the Female Lead.
That’s why she was so angry and indignant.
