- Chapter 24 - Are We in a Relationship Now?
Su Jianyu froze, her throat feeling as if it were glued shut by spiderwebs. She couldn’t speak. Her daughter’s counter-question was, in truth, correct.
If not for Bai Yanxing, Su Tang’s amateur skills would have left her broken in pieces long ago.
“Tangtang, you’re right,” Su Jianyu finally said.
He had been so busy that she had forgotten about the person who had fled without permission.
“I’ll make sure justice is served.”
His gaze then shifted to Bai Yanxing. She lowered her head, bowing deeply—a gesture that made the Black Wolf Gang members’ eyes widen in disbelief. They couldn’t understand what their Boss was doing.
“Thank you for saving my daughter,” Su Jianyu said, her voice sincere. She rarely humbled herself before others, but this time, her gratitude was genuine.
“It’s nothing,” Bai Yanxing replied with a gentle shake of her head. “If Su Tang hadn’t helped me stitch up my wounds and keep warm, I might have died of hypothermia too.”
She didn’t mind being treated this way. In fact, in the Apocalypse, she had grown accustomed to this kind of transactional approach to survival. After all, human hearts were often more terrifying than zombies.
But… now that a full day and night had passed, Bai Yanxing had only survived this long thanks to Su Tang.
She was different from the others—both kind and gentle.
Despite being called “isolation,” Su Jianyu had actually arranged for a clean, warm room to be prepared for Bai Yanxing. She even had a small opening cut into the door, through which someone would periodically deliver charcoal for warmth.
Bai Yanxing lay on the bed.
He vaguely suspected that the Black Wolf Gang wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to seize the Hydroelectric Dam only to hand it over to Feather City.
Therefore, they would need to station troops there.
In other words, the Hydroelectric Dam would serve as a second base.
Not only could they develop fisheries and secure a stable water source, but the surrounding jungle also offered timber and hunting opportunities.
It was practically perfect.
However, establishing this supply line would likely take a year or two. They would need to construct high walls of iron mesh, wood, and sheet metal to create a safe road.
This would eliminate the constant casualties.
The nearly twenty- or thirty-kilometer journey might be quick by car, but building a fully fortified road in the Apocalypse was akin to constructing a wonder of the world.
For now, they could only proceed step by step.
Su Tang asked someone for some water and brought it to Bai Yanxing. In the past, even scalding hot water had been a rare commodity in the camp.
But now they were at the Hydroelectric Dam, where water was plentiful and underwent basic filtration, preventing infection.
Only Su Tang knew that the Evil God lurked beneath the sea. While the land’s water supply was generally safe, it remained susceptible to weather patterns, allowing the infection to spread.
Even with minor contamination, it wouldn’t cause humans to mutate into those grotesque zombie-like creatures.
It was only later in the novel that healthy humans became tainted by the Evil God. After death, their corpses would immediately transform.
Only a fortunate few would gain divine powers.
Su Tang didn’t know which category she belonged to, but one thing was clear: she couldn’t afford to die.
“Take off your clothes,” she said.
The room was warm, so removing the heavy layers wouldn’t be a problem.
“Ah…”
“Isn’t this a bit… inappropriate? There are guards patrolling outside.”
Bai Yanxing instantly recalled a scene from Sweet Talk in the Rain. In the dead of night, the elder sister, returning home after working late, would embrace the person on the bed and whisper those same words, making them blush crimson before following up with…
“I want you to please me.”
Su Tang immediately realized the Female Lead had misunderstood. She smiled and gently tapped the tip of her nose.
“What are you thinking? Even if they couldn’t hear us, your wound would reopen if I actually tried that.”
“I just want to wipe away the bl00d and sweat.”
“Can you really sleep comfortably like this?”
Bai Yanxing, realizing her misunderstanding, composed herself slightly. She bent down to take off her shoes, but the movement tugged at her wound, forcing her to press her lips tightly together.
“Don’t move,” Su Tang said, pressing her hand against her knee.
With her other hand, she tugged at the shoelaces. Bai Yanxing had tied them tightly—after all, you couldn’t risk tripping over loose laces while fighting zombies.
She had to use a bit of force to untie them.
“I’ve been wearing these for a whole day and night. They might smell a little.”
Bai Yanxing’s ears flushed red as she said this, clearly embarrassed. How could anyone possibly be as fragrant and soft as the heroines in novels?
Any physical activity inevitably leads to sweat.
She had never cared about such things before, but now, in front of the person she liked, she wanted to maintain some semblance of dignity.
“Aren’t I the same?”
Su Tang smiled. In truth, the Female Lead’s feet didn’t smell bad at all; the metallic scent of bl00d on her body was far stronger.
After removing her shoes and socks and tossing them aside, Su Tang began helping Bai Yanxing remove her coat. To prevent anyone from peeking, she hung the coat over the gap in the doorway.
Hmph…
Only I am allowed to see the Female Lead’s body. No one else can even dream of it.
Even though she had intercepted the Female Lead’s appearance, she couldn’t be certain she wouldn’t suddenly pop out from some hidden corner.
Bai Yanxing didn’t clutch her chest. Instead, she braced herself on the edge of the bed, allowing Su Tang to wipe her down with open composure.
“Su Tang…”
“You kissed me, and I rejected you then. But now you’ve saved me. You’re even stronger and braver than I imagined.”
Bai Yanxing’s feet unconsciously crossed, her pink toenails and slightly flushed ears betraying the secrets of a young girl’s heart.
“Oh, thank you for the compliment,” Su Tang replied, wiping her arm.
Bai Yanxing had sustained scrapes from the fall, so Su Tang carefully avoided those areas while applying iodine to the wounds.
“So…” Bai Yanxing stammered, nearly biting her tongue, but she mustered her courage. “Are we… are we in a relationship now?”
Su Tang’s hand paused mid-wipe. Seeing her hesitation, a flicker of disappointment washed over Bai Yanxing’s eyes, like a shattered galaxy.
“I understand… if you can’t decide right now, I won’t pressure you…”
Before she could finish the sentence, Su Tang’s hands landed firmly on her shoulders.
Now’s the time!
This was the perfect opportunity to claim the Female Lead, and Su Tang was determined to seize it.
How could I let someone else have her?
Su Tang didn’t rush to answer, but her soft lips pressed against his—the most eloquent reply.
She had always been unwavering in her choice of the Female Lead, whether admiring her from the pages of a novel or, now that she had transmigrated, being captivated by her overwhelming power.
The tenderness of their kiss was like savoring a sweet-and-sour cherry.
A gentle sweep of her tongue sent shivers across her skin. How long they remained locked in that embrace, neither knew.
Finally, Su Tang pressed her forehead against Bai Yanxing’s warm one.
“I agree.”
“But you can’t take it back.”
“And you can’t fall for any other little fox spirits in the future.”
Su Tang reached out to cup her cheek. As the Female Lead, Bai Yanxing had more than one secret admirer—in fact, she had a whole basketful of them later on.
He wasn’t particularly interested in romance, but she also didn’t reject others easily, fueling endless hope in many female supporting characters.
