- Transmigrating as a Cannon Fodder in the Apocalypse, Seducing the Mad Female Lead
- Chapter 39 - I'm Not Weaker Than Her. I Can Protect You.
Outside the iron fence, a horde of zombies still clamored to break through. Black Wolf Gang members held torches aloft, dousing the creatures in flames. The burning flesh emitted a putrid stench mingled with the acrid smell of charred meat.
In such a gruesome setting, romance seemed utterly inappropriate.
But this was the Apocalypse. Every day brought scenes like this, so commonplace they had become mere background noise. People’s sensitivity to the horror had gradually dulled.
Su Tang had genuinely admired Gu Mei’s prowess. As the second-strongest fighter in the novel, Gu Mei would be a six-star character in a game—the kind with maxed-out shooting accuracy.
“She’s undeniably impressive,” Su Tang admitted, choosing honesty over flattery. Her admiration was sincere.
Bai Yanxing turned abruptly, her black leather boots tapping impatiently against the concrete ground, kicking aside chunks of snow.
“I’m impressive too, you know.”
At that moment, Su Tang finally understood why Bai Yanxing had been acting strangely. Just moments ago, she had single-handedly killed over a dozen ordinary zombies and two Jumping Zombies, yet now she was fixated on Su Tang’s admiring gaze toward Gu Mei.
What a possessive guy, Su Tang thought.
“Yes, you’re the most amazing,” Su Tang said, cupping Bai Yanxing’s cheeks with a radiant smile.
“If you think sniper rifles are cool, I can learn to use one too. It’s not hard.”
“I’m not weaker than her! I can protect you!” Bai Yanxing stepped closer, her puffed-up cheeks making her look like a woman completely consumed by love.
“No need. Your bow and arrows are perfect. You’re fastest when using the weapon you’re most comfortable with.” Su Tang brushed a stray strand of hair from Bai Yanxing’s face and took a few steps forward, her boots crunching through the snow.
She had initially wanted to kiss Bai Yanxing passionately, but considering the others were still roasting zombie meat nearby, she restrained herself.
“Yanxing, there’ll probably be a victory celebration tonight. I have a gift for you.”
Su Tang thought she couldn’t keep making the Female Lead feel insecure. What difference would that make between her and the saintly Female Lead who attracted trouble everywhere she went?
If Bai Yanxing continued to feel insecure, she had a way to resolve it.
After all, she was just a cannon fodder character. Su Tang believed survival was her only priority, owing nothing to the original owner of this body.
She had already saved the entire Black Wolf Gang.
Otherwise, before winter had even fully arrived, Bai Yanxing would have single-handedly slaughtered her way through their entire camp.
Bai Yanxing’s delicate fingers traced her cheek and earlobe, making her feel like a dog being comforted by its master.
His turbulent mood instantly calmed.
He gripped Su Tang’s wrist, pressing her soft lips to her skin. Her cheek nestled against her palm as she looked up, her dark eyes gleaming with a hint of ambition and tenderness.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
With those words, Bai Yanxing donned her gas mask and plunged back into the Red Mist.
The hospital sweep went relatively smoothly. Bai Yanxing didn’t encounter any monsters like the ones at the Hydroelectric Dam.
But she suspected that the ovarian sacs in the hospital might hatch into similar creatures.
The mere thought of it sent chills down her spine.
It wasn’t until late at night that the Black Wolf Gang finished loading and unloading the medical equipment from the hospital’s warehouse.
As Bai Yanxing was organizing her team members to board the pickup trucks in an orderly fashion, a woman rushed over in a flurry.
“Tangtang, are you alright?!”
Su Jianyu was in rough shape herself, her face bruised and swollen, as if he’d accidentally fallen down the stairs while escaping. But at least she hadn’t been scratched.
If she had been scratched, Su Tang didn’t want to imagine the consequences. After all, 90% of her current authority came from her “cheap dad.”
“I’m fine,” Su Tang said, shaking her head, her gaze fixed on the man’s face.
“Dad, what happened to you?” she asked, her voice filled with concern. She rummaged in her pocket, found a bandage, tore it open, and gently applied it to her wound.
Su Jianyu froze, clearly surprised by her daughter’s gesture, given their strained relationship.
He simply stroked the bandage with her rough fingers and smiled foolishly.
“It’s nothing. I was just worried. I heard… Bai Yanxing’s team encountered a lot of Jumping Zombies, so I came to see you as soon as I left the hospital.”
“Dad was worried you might get scratched.”
“How could I be so weak? I’ve been training hard these past few days. There’s no way I’d let a Zombie scratch me so easily.”
Su Tang spoke with absolute confidence, truly believing that with The Truth on her side, she had nothing to fear.
Seeing her daughter was unharmed, Su Jianyu finally let out a sigh of relief.
“I’m just glad you’re safe.”
He didn’t want Su Tang fighting Zombies outside, but she also knew that spoiling a child was akin to killing them. If she sheltered her too much, she’d have no means of self-defense if anything happened to him.
He had previously urged her to learn how to use a gun, but Su Tang refused, leaving her no choice but to drop the matter.
He wasn’t the type to pressure her daughter, so she could only try to find a capable son-in-law.
But now, an unexpected turn of events had occurred. Su Tang had become so proactive and ambitious, choosing several candidates with exceptional abilities.
Especially Gu Mei and her group.
Their performance today was impressive, having eliminated over a dozen zombies.
Though she didn’t know what had triggered her daughter’s sudden awakening, Su Jianyu felt genuinely pleased.
After parting ways with her “cheap old man,” Su Tang obediently climbed back into the pickup truck where Bai Yanxing was waiting. The interior fell silent, but upon closer observation, one could notice Bai Yanxing’s black leather shoes tapping lightly.
Only someone in high spirits or excitement would do that.
Bai Yanxing was clearly anticipating something, as evidenced by their intertwined fingers and the slight upturn of her lips.
Without needing to overthink it, Su Tang knew Bai Yanxing was thinking about that—her promise to give her a gift after the celebration banquet.
Remembering that her nail clippers were still in the drawer beneath the TV, Su Tang’s heart began to race with excitement.
Only by completely possessing the Female Lead could she eliminate any chance of others snatching her away. Her plan was flawless!
It would also soothe Bai Yanxing’s wounded spirit.
The car jolted violently. Today, approximately five or six people had died. Their bodies, wrapped in white cloth, would be transported back to the Base for funeral rites.
The Black Wolf Gang never mistreated those who died heroically.
However, corpses with bite wounds had to be cremated, as decaying bodies posed a risk of spreading infection.
The pickup truck sped through the night. Occasionally, wandering Zombies would charge at them, only to be swiftly eliminated by the Black Wolf Gang members riding in the back.
After this devastating blow, human civilization was like a dying ember, ready to reignite with the slightest spark.
Bai Yanxing, however, cared little about the medical equipment they had secured today or the fact that they had survived another day.
Nor did she concern herself with the fate of humanity.
His sole focus was on the “gift” she would receive after the banquet.
The special “gift” Su Tang had promised.
