- Transmigrating as a Cannon Fodder in the Apocalypse, Seducing the Mad Female Lead
- Chapter 7 - Unaccustomed to Physical Contact
In the Apocalypse, any means of transportation was invaluable, especially cars, which could cover vast distances and conserve precious manpower and resources.
However, the city had been bombed to eradicate the zombies, leaving many bridges collapsed and steel reinforcing bars exposed from shattered concrete.
Only a few roads remained passable.
As the group traversed the broken terrain, they encountered a Black Wolf Gang pickup truck. The vehicle had been modified, its side spray-painted with a massive wolf’s head.
With zombies proving impossible to eradicate completely, the city’s surviving human population had dwindled to a handful. Currently, only two major factions remained: the Black Wolf Gang, known for its strict hierarchical structure, and Feather City, named for the feather’s symbolic association with hope.
The Female Lead would later join Feather City’s shelter.
Compared to the Black Wolf Gang’s rigid control, Feather City operated with a much more relaxed approach, primarily focusing on caring for the elderly, women, and children. Consequently, its influence remained limited, hindering its growth.
The Black Wolf Gang’s truck screeched to a halt upon spotting them. Surprised to see Su Tang among the group, the passenger quickly dismounted and patted the dusty passenger seat.
“Miss Su Tang, what are you doing out here?”
“If you don’t mind the dirt, take this seat. It’s better than riding in the back of the truck.”
The truck bed was filled with scattered wooden crates, packed with supplies the Black Wolf Gang had scavenged. All the gang members who had been out gathering resources were sitting on the crates, without even a proper seat to be found.
Su Tang shook her head and climbed into the back of the pickup truck.
“No need, I’ll just sit back here.”
While the front passenger seat would have spared her a bumpy ride, it would have defeated her true purpose: to stay close to the Female Lead. Su Tang resolutely abandoned the idea.
Simultaneously, she silently mourned for her poor buttocks, knowing the bombed-out terrain would make for an excruciatingly bumpy ride.
The two Black Wolf Gang soldiers exchanged glances but dared not question her further. They restarted the engine, its roar drawing the attention of nearby zombies.
Among them, the most menacing were the Long-Legged Jumping Zombies.
Their grotesquely evolved limbs, nearly twice as long as their bodies, resembled those of frogs, allowing them to leap over ten meters in a single bound.
Bai Yanxing nocked an arrow. As a Jumping Zombie lunged forward, everyone raised their weapons, but it was an arrow that pierced its crimson eyes first.
A putrid spray erupted, like a rotten tomato splattering against a wall, filling the air with a nauseating stench.
Su Tang closed her eyes, telling herself not to think about it. Staying by the Female Lead’s side meant absolute safety, like finding a safe room in a horror game.
A cold, foul-smelling liquid dripped onto Su Tang’s face—undoubtedly zombie bl00d.
Su Tang instinctively reached for a tissue in her pocket, but someone moved faster. A soft tissue wiped away the grime from her cheek.
“Are you okay?”
Bai Yanxing always aimed for the zombies’ heads. While this method was satisfying, occasional accidents occurred. A shot to the neck could splatter a large amount of putrid bodily fluids.
She apologized to Su Tang for the splatter on her face.
Normally, Bai Yanxing wouldn’t bother with such trivialities. Getting splattered with bl00d was a common occurrence when hunting zombies.
Yet for some reason, she felt an urge to protect this fair-skinned Little Girl.
Despite Su Tang being the daughter of the Black Wolf Gang leader—someone who clearly didn’t need her protection—Bai Yanxing couldn’t shake this protective instinct.
Su Tang looked up at the Female Lead. Her gentle movements as she wiped away the bl00d made Su Tang’s heart flutter.
Though her initial motive had been simply to latch onto a powerful figure, almost no one could resist the Female Lead’s allure.
My heart is racing, Su Tang thought, biting her lip. I can’t let myself get too attached while clinging to the Female Lead’s coattails.
In the Apocalypse, the most terrifying thing was human nature.
Even though the Female Lead was kind, Su Tang couldn’t afford to trust anyone completely.
By the time they returned to the Shelter, dusk had fallen, and the small banquet was already underway.
The Black Wolf Gang’s territory had gradually expanded, divided into an inner city and an outer city. The outer city primarily cultivated vegetables and fruits, and housed rainwater harvesting systems.
Compared to Feather City, where torches were the only source of light at night, the Black Wolf Gang’s environment was significantly better. They possessed solar panels and diesel generators salvaged from the old world, allowing them to live comfortably.
As a result, only teams returning with substantial supplies and their families were permitted to attend the gathering in the inner city.
A plump lamb roasted on a spit, its meat sizzling and dripping with oil. Sprinkled with cumin, the aroma was intoxicating, driving everyone to salivate uncontrollably.
Someone turned on a stereo, and lively music filled the air, bringing a touch of relaxation to the tense atmosphere of the Apocalypse.
Bai Yanxing sat to one side, watching the others drink, eat meat, and celebrate surviving another day.
“Aren’t you going to eat?” Su Tang approached, her plate piled with tender meat and fragrant rice.
“I’ll eat later,” Bai Yanxing replied with a smile. For some reason, she felt much closer to the girl before her now.
“I know you’re still getting used to things here since you’re new,” Su Tang said, ignoring Bai Yanxing’s words. She scooped up a spoonful of shredded lamb and rice and brought it to her lips.
Bai Yanxing’s skin was pale, and the orange-red firelight bathed her skin in an indescribable honeyed glow—captivating and soul-stirring. This was the unique beauty of the Female Lead.
Bai She had also attended the banquet, thanks to her daughter’s invitation. Despite the lavish spread, she ate little, wanting to save most of it for her injured wife. She packed the food into her iron box and wrapped it in cotton cloth to keep it warm.
He had intended to find her daughter for a chat, but when she looked up, she saw Su Tang feeding Bai Yanxing spoonful after spoonful of food. The two looked like lovers.
Wait…
How could I think that?
They’re not lovers—they must be close friends.
Yes, close friends.
Whether to comfort herself or for some other reason, Bai She decided not to disturb her daughter. She continued drinking and chatting with others, her attitude toward the Black Wolf Gang softening slightly.
If their leader raised such a kind-hearted daughter, she must be a decent woman after all.
Seeing the empty plate, Su Tang set it aside and tugged at Bai Yanxing’s hand.
Bai Yanxing’s body stiffened for a moment.
He tried to pull her hand away.
Su Tang narrowed her eyes, like a fox deftly catching the movement.
“Yanxing, do you dislike being so close to me?” she asked, her voice tinged with a wounded tone, like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on.
“No…” Bai Yanxing stammered, flustered and unsure how to respond. Her face flushed crimson. “I’m just… not used to being so close to people, to physical contact.”
