- Chapter 9 - Crap, I've Transmigrated as the Villainous Female Supporting Character!
This dream was too bizarre.
When Bai Yanxing woke up, she found herself covered in a fine layer of sweat, a chill running down her spine.
Surely, reading a novel couldn’t turn me into this kind of person, right?
Yet, as she gazed at Su Tang sleeping beside him, Bai Yanxing felt her heart inexplicably racing.
His fingers clenched tightly, the faint blue veins visible beneath the pale skin of her hand.
Sin… sin.
How could I harbor such vile and despicable thoughts toward my savior?
Bai Yanxing mentally berated herself before getting up. She tossed a few dry logs into the fireplace and poured some warm water from the kettle beside it to wash her face.
The hunting teams operated on a rotation: if they hunted yesterday, they were off today.
But Bai Yanxing couldn’t stand being idle.
So, she planned to craft arrows for her bow today. She had barely left the house and walked two miles when someone grabbed her from behind.
This time, Su Tang had been particularly vigilant. She sensed the Female Lead stirring the moment she woke up.
Though she hated to leave her warm, cozy blanket, keeping a close eye on the Female Lead—her golden ticket—was clearly the more pressing task.
Su Tang couldn’t afford to hesitate.
She endured the winter chill and leaped out of bed.
Last time, she’d let the Female Lead slip away, nearly leading to a fateful encounter with the Female Lead. This time, she was determined to prevent such a thing from happening.
“Su Tang, why are you hugging me?”
Bai Yanxing’s mind drifted back to the books he’d read the night before, inexplicably conjuring those ambiguous and suggestive passages.
He exhaled, her breath forming a white mist in the frigid air. Her ears, hidden beneath her hat, betrayed only a faint blush.
“You don’t need to hunt outside today. Why are you going out so early?”
Su Tang pressed her nose against Bai Yanxing’s neck. Her heightened senses immediately registered that the Female Lead’s aloofness toward her had significantly diminished.
This was a major breakthrough.
“I need to make spare arrows for my bow,” she replied.
Bai Yanxing answered earnestly, “You don’t need to worry about that. The Black Wolf Gang has people responsible for logistics and production.”
Those unable to work outside, such as those with broken legs or missing hands, were assigned to logistical tasks.
Su Tang, having read the novel, knew some of the story’s background.
“But I can’t stand being idle,” she said, her lips curving into a smile.
Su Tang was anxious about the Female Lead meeting the Female Lead, especially since the Female Lead was still within the Black Wolf Gang’s territory.
“Then why don’t I show you around the Black Wolf Gang? It’ll help you get used to the place.”
In reality, Su Tang’s knowledge of the Black Wolf Gang came entirely from the novel, and even there, the author’s descriptions were sparse, spanning only four or five chapters. After all, the Black Wolf Gang was merely a refuge that the protagonist had wiped out early in the story as part of her revenge.
“Alright,” Bai Yanxing agreed without hesitation.
Once they were ready, the two emerged together. The walls of the Inner City were under urgent construction, with most residents living within its confines. The Outer City primarily housed livestock like pigs, cattle, chickens, and ducks.
Humans and animals needed to be separated to prevent the spread of diseases.
Although fairy tales often depict protagonists living in harmony with animals, the reality is that animals carry numerous fleas and disease-causing pathogens.
Especially now, with medical supplies scarce, widespread outbreaks would be disastrous.
That’s why Su Jianyu established inner and outer layers of isolation.
The inner layer’s structures were far more robust than those in the outer layer, constructed from steel plates reinforced with wooden blocks. As Su Tang stepped onto the soft snow, she couldn’t help but feel fortunate. She hadn’t transmigrated into one of those utterly bleak and disease-ridden Apocalypse novels.
Though she was just a cannon fodder character, at least she didn’t have to worry about food or clothing.
People greeted her whenever she passed by, a testament to her influence.
Su Tang finally felt a sliver of relief. At least she hadn’t ended up in a solitary shack surrounded by zombies.
She figured if that had been the case, she would have given up struggling and joined the zombie horde, happily chasing after the protagonists for a snack.
As they walked side by side, Su Tang would mentally scour the novel’s plot whenever she recognized a landmark, then explain its significance.
She avoided mentioning anything unfamiliar, figuring the less she said, the fewer mistakes she’d make.
After exploring the Inner City, Su Tang planned to take her group to the Outer City. But they had barely taken a few steps when they encountered Bai He.
This weathered woman was Bai Yanxing’s father. If Su Tang hadn’t transmigrated into the novel, she would have met her demise at the very beginning of the story.
“Yanxing, the girl you rescued yesterday has recovered. She wants to thank you,” Bai She said with a smile. “Would you like to come with me to see him?”
This seemingly innocuous invitation immediately put Su Tang on guard.
As expected, the fated connection between the Female Lead and Female Lead couldn’t be easily severed. Having already shown mercy by saving the Female Lead, she couldn’t allow any further contact between them.
Su Tang deliberately reached out and pulled Bai Yanxing closer.
“Oh, right! I promised to take you to the vegetable garden. It’s winter now, so the radishes and cabbages should be fully grown.”
Bai Yanxing sensed Su Tang’s reluctance to let her meet the man. Why? she wondered.
“Dad, I don’t need to go,” she replied. “You can visit him. Just tell her I don’t need her gratitude. Saving a fellow citizen is the right thing to do.”
Listening to the Female Lead’s somewhat saintly pronouncements, Su Tang couldn’t shake the feeling that she had become the villainous supporting character destined to tear the female and female leads apart.
But she didn’t regret it.
There was nothing wrong with people looking out for their own interests.
She had already been unlucky enough to transmigrate into this novel. If she wanted to survive, this was the only realistic path forward.
Bai She didn’t press the matter further.
He simply nodded and left.
“You seem really reluctant for me to see him?”
Bai Yanxing noticed Su Tang’s unease and, recalling the books she had read the previous night, came to a conclusion.
“Do you… like me?”
“Like in those books? Love at first sight, then falling deeper with each meeting?”
Su Tang: ……
Cough, cough, cough…
Being so directly exposed by the Female Lead—did she have no sense of shame?
“I don’t! But… you are very beautiful.”
Su Tang reached out and pinched Bai Yanxing’s cheek, watching as her lips pursed slightly. She couldn’t resist giving her a good squeeze.
Come on, this is the Female Lead who’s going to dominate the entire Apocalypse!
Oh, to be played with like this by me—she’s practically the luckiest girl alive.
“You’re just lusting after her beauty,” Bai Yanxing said with a knowing look.
“So, do you hate me? Do you hate being touched by me?” Su Tang pressed her advantage, their noses nearly touching. Even through the thick layers of winter clothing, she could almost hear Bai Yanxing’s heart pounding wildly.
“I don’t hate you,” Bai Yanxing admitted truthfully. “But… liking someone so quickly seems a bit fast, don’t you think?”
Her faintly flushed cheeks betrayed her embarrassment.
The book’s contents lingered in her mind, as if the door to a new world had been opened.
Su Tang simply smiled and nodded, deciding to stop teasing the Female Lead. If she pushed too far and made this mimosa close its leaves completely, there’d be no more fun to be had.
“Alright, then let’s take things slow.”
Su Tang walked forward with a light heart, mentally giving herself a thumbs-up.
Yes! Su Tang, you’re so clever!
Another successful intervention to keep the female and female leads apart.
