Transmigrating Before The Crazy Beauty Scum A Loses Control - Chapter 20
“Pant… pant…”
Zuo Baixuan rushed out of the dorm, hailed a taxi straight to the residential area, and jogged all the way back.
Breathing heavily, her hair disheveled.
She quickly took a couple of deep breaths in front of the reflective surface in the elevator, wiped off her sweat, and tidied herself up.
She couldn’t let Luan Yenan notice anything amiss.
Her computer contained her meticulous savings plans, future career strategies, and clues to finding that man.
Luan Yenan’s recent behavior had been too bizarre, making her uneasy. Zuo Baixuan didn’t want this person to uncover more of her secrets.
Even though all the folders were encrypted and should be safe from Luan Yenan’s prying eyes, she couldn’t be sure Luan wouldn’t hire someone to crack them while she was away.
Zuo Baixuan used the time it took for the elevator to ascend 24 floors to calm herself.
Stepping out of the elevator, she walked down the corridor.
The semi-enclosed hallway was dimly lit.
As Zuo Baixuan passed, the motion-sensor lights flickered on one by one.
The not-too-long corridor took her fifteen seconds to traverse.
By then, her face had relaxed into an easy expression, no longer showing the urgency she had when she first returned to the complex.
She entered the code on the keypad.
The heavy security door swung open.
Inside and outside the room were two different worlds.
Luan Yenan hadn’t shied away from the midday sun, and the room was bathed in bright light.
She sat alone at the dining table.
Still dressed in a loose shirt, her hair casually tied back, with strands falling over her forehead.
Her relaxed, homey style made her seem utterly harmless.
The bright light cast her in a dazzling white glow, as if she were posing for a photoshoot.
One hand casually tapped on the keyboard, producing a pleasant clatter.
The other hand held a water glass. When she glanced up and saw Zuo Baixuan, she showed no surprise, as if she had known she would return.
“You’re back. The housekeeper was here earlier and made lunch. It’s in the kitchen. You came back just in time—wash your hands, and we can eat.”
Zuo Baixuan frowned slightly. “Didn’t I say I was planning to have lunch at school? You prepared food for me too?”
Luan Yenan looked up at her, her gaze sweeping over Zuo Baixuan’s fresh, youthful outfit for the day.
“It’s just an extra pair of chopsticks. Did you rush back because you knew there was lunch at home?”
Seeing that Zuo Baixuan wasn’t heading to the kitchen, Luan Yenan didn’t press her. Instead, she walked to the kitchen herself, bringing out the still-steaming dishes to prove she wasn’t lying.
Zuo Baixuan followed, lending a hand.
As she set the dishes down, she couldn’t help but ask, “Did you use my computer?”
“Yeah, I looked up some things. My old computer broke, and since yours was on the table in the common area, I figured it was fair game. You said not to message you unless it was urgent, so I didn’t.” Luan Yenan spoke while poking at the contract on the table.
The contract had been updated over the past couple of days.
Every word was an explanation that everything was within the bounds of the agreement, perfectly reasonable.
Yet each sentence pressed against Zuo Baixuan’s limits of tolerance, making her uncomfortable.
But the discomfort was self-inflicted.
She had carelessly left her computer in the common area, confident that Luan Yenan wouldn’t touch it. She hadn’t expected this kind of mishap.
She sat back in her seat and pulled the computer over, checking it in front of Luan Yenan.
The encrypted files showed no signs of being accessed.
As Luan Yenan had said, the browsing history only showed web searches.
Zuo Baixuan closed the computer and asked, “Are you done with the computer now?”
“My online order will arrive this afternoon, so I won’t need to borrow yours anymore.” Luan Yenan handed Zuo Baixuan a bowl of rice.
Her eyes, filled with amusement, stared directly at Zuo Baixuan.
That same composed, all-knowing gaze that seemed to see right through her.
Zuo Baixuan instinctively held her breath but decided to press on with her questions. “I’m surprised you knew the password.”
“Did you forget? Technically, you should call me your senior.” Luan Yenan said nonchalantly.
Her tone lifted, almost like an invitation.
It made Zuo Baixuan’s ears tingle.
But the explanation only went halfway.
Zuo Baixuan, unsettled by the overly casual tone, began to wonder.
Had this person cracked even the hidden software she had installed?
“I just booted into safe mode, clicked on ADMINISTRATOR, and reset your password to the default. If you don’t want anything in the common area touched, we can amend the rules.” Luan Yenan even offered the latter option.
Zuo Baixuan felt even more uncomfortable.
It was as if Luan was saying she had set the rules but was now breaking them herself, simply because she was outmatched.
“I thought you weren’t interested in computers.”
“It’s just a basic password system. Even if I weren’t interested in computers, I could crack it. After all, it’s designed to keep out the honest, not the dishonest.”
A blatant reminder that “I am the dishonest one” yet there was nothing Zuo Baixuan could do about it.
She began to suspect that Luan Yenan had known about the monitoring software all along and had triggered it on purpose.
To lure her back.
But why?
If she wasn’t going to put a collar on her little rabbit, was she using a whistle to call it home?
This really did sound like something the infamous crazy scumbag would do.
Cold and detached, showing no attachment to the Omegas who came and went in her life. But as long as an Omega belonged to her, she had a pathological need to control them.
No marking, but plenty of other ways to bind them.
Her earlier, slightly improved impression of Luan Yenan shifted again. She was convinced that even teaching her how to gamble had been part of some twisted game.
Zuo Baixuan stopped speaking and quietly ate her meal.
Luan Yenan didn’t say much either.
Had she intentionally lured Zuo Baixuan back?
That would be a misunderstanding. She hadn’t expected Zuo Baixuan’s computer to have the most basic system password protection while also running a hidden monitoring program.
Such a setup was very much like Zuo Baixuan herself.
Outwardly simple and easy to understand, but inwardly guarded and complex, with a built-in alarm system.
When the hidden software dialed Zuo Baixuan’s phone, Luan Yenan really hadn’t had time to intercept it.
That’s why she had asked the housekeeper to prepare extra lunch.
As for the purpose of using Zuo Baixuan’s computer, it had nothing to do with Zuo Baixuan herself.
In her original world, Luan Yenan had made her first pot of gold by taking on programming projects.
She could confidently say that at her peak, her skills were at least on par with top-tier hackers, if not leading experts in major tech companies.
Over the past few days, to fully understand the original owner’s information, she had tested the waters with the “old computer” in the study.
She realized that this world’s technology tree had branched differently due to the existence of ABO dynamics, leaving its internet technology lagging behind her original world. After easily accessing all the original owner’s social media accounts, she had a new idea.
Today, borrowing Zuo Baixuan’s computer was simply to find the person who had assigned her that programming task a few days ago.
Buzz—
Luan Yenan’s phone, lying on the table, lit up.
She received a garbled text message from an “unknown” number.
