Transmigrating into a Wasteland Cannon Fodder Slag A [GL Yuri] - Chapter 17
Yan An hurried through the back door into the restaurant’s kitchen, slipped around the prep tables, and came up behind Gu Xia. Just as the bald man stepped in, she planted herself between him and Gu Xia.
Bald man: “?”
Gu Xia: “?”
Startled by the sudden shadow blocking her, Gu Xia nearly treated the newcomer like a zombie and swung an axe. If she hadn’t recognized the clothes and if she hadn’t seen that familiar jacket, Yan An would probably have been spattered in bl00d on the spot.
“You… why are you here?” Gu Xia asked, baffled.
Wasn’t Yan An supposed to be heading for Pingzhou City? How did she suddenly appear in the mall—two places that were miles apart? How had she found her, and why was she standing in front of her like that?
Yan An rolled her eyes and shot back, “What do you think? If I hadn’t come, you’d already be in their hands.”
Really, knowing how dangerous downtown was, and still insisting on going… they were barely even in the heart of the city and she’d almost been snatched.
“You came because you were worried about me?” Gu Xia’s voice carried a little hope. When had their relationship softened so much that Yan An would risk herself for her?
“I just didn’t want to see you go die.” Yan An’s mouth was sharp and stubborn and never one for sentimental confessions.
But if she hadn’t cared, she wouldn’t have chased all the way here. Heading out toward the island from the outskirts was objectively safer than coming into the city. Yan An wouldn’t have turned back toward danger unless something pulled at her.
Gu Xia didn’t call her out on it. Secretly, a small warmth fluttered in her chest. This Yan An really was different. No, it was almost like a different person entirely.
“Enough!” the bald man barked, cutting through the moment.
“You two—don’t you see guests? Making out in front of me?” His voice was thick with irritation. “You came onto our turf. Do you know what that means? People die here!”
Gu Xia tensed, brow knitting, fists clenching.
Yan An grabbed her hand and pulled her back, ignoring the bald man’s bluster, and hissed quietly, “What are you doing in the mall anyway?”
“You first, what are you doing here?” Gu Xia shot back.
Yan An answered plainly, no pretense: “I came for a portable charger. Thought you might need one too. Your route and mine are basically the same. I figured you’d be on the fourth floor and, well. Here you are.”
The bald man, now furious at being brushed aside, snarled, “You dare ignore me? Get them! Cripple their limbs and haul them upstairs. Brother Qiang wants them and he takes whatever ABO he wants!”
…Wow. No filter at all.
Yan An shot the bald man a look full of disdain, then took the axe from Gu Xia’s hand.
“You hide. I’ll handle this.”
Her skills weren’t bad, after all that wilderness survival training, she was sharper than most martial arts practitioners.
Now that her body had been restored, she could basically pull off those flashy action moves you’d see in modern kung fu films. Of course, nothing like scaling rooftops or unleashing inner force. It was still grounded in reality.
That bald guy had just taken down zombies with clean, efficient moves. Definitely trained. And with three more men backing him, she wasn’t sure she could win outright.
Her awakened ability was still just a support skill. Was she really going to end up trading blow for blow, hurting herself just to take them out, and then patching herself up afterward?
As the three men charged forward, Yan An raised the axe, ready to strike back.
But suddenly, two bloody holes opened up in the bald man’s calf. He dropped to his knees less than a meter away from her.
The other two skidded to a stop.
Obviously, wounds like that came from either a gun or an ability.
And when Yan An saw their horrified eyes fixed on the space behind her, she knew exactly what had happened.
Gu Xia?
She turned her head and saw Gu Xia’s hand wrapped in a dangerous-looking current of air. Yan An could feel the threat radiating from it. And it wasn’t her ability warning her—no, this danger wasn’t aimed at her at all.
Gu Xia flicked her fingers. A split second later, the bald man howled as another bloody hole opened up on his arm.
“You wanted to cripple us?” Gu Xia’s cold voice rang out. Her eyes were sharp, merciless, fixed on him. One wrong word from him, and the next wound would bloom right between his brows.
Yan An finally understood. Gu Xia had awakened her powers!
She focused, and sure enough, Gu Xia’s panel above her head had changed:
【Basic Attributes】
Name: Gu Xia
Physical Fitness: 98 (slightly drained, trains regularly, close to peak human condition)
Awakened Abilities:
- B-rank Infinite Copy (Can copy abilities lower than her own rank. Growth potential.)
- C-rank Time Manipulation (Can freeze time for 10 seconds. Collapses afterward. Growth potential.)
- D-rank Air Compression (Weaponizes air. No growth potential.)
*******
Three abilities at once. Two of them were growth-type and absurdly strong ones at that. Copying other people’s powers and freezing time.
This was the heroine, all right. No awakening for so long, and then the moment she does and…
Bam! heaven-defying powers. Truly the chosen one.
Maybe tagging along with the heroine was the real way to survive?
Yan An couldn’t help but laugh at herself. No wonder all those zombies kept getting their heads blown open along the way. It had been Gu Xia doing it.
She was curious, though. That “Air Compression” thing. What exactly did it do? Was it really just pulling air together and firing it like a weapon?
Judging from Gu Xia’s earlier shot, the air bullet wasn’t as fast as a gunshot, but it was definitely quicker than a thrown dagger. Basically, a ranged attacker.
With a tank in front and Gu Xia in the back pelting air bullets, zombies didn’t stand a chance.
Too bad her own role was just a “support”. She’d have to rely on blocking with her body, and that wasn’t easy.
Now that the bald man was on his knees, his two lackeys froze.
The bald man, enraged, shouted, “What are you waiting for? Kill that omega! She has awakened powers!”
The two men flinched but forced themselves forward.
Yan An flashed Gu Xia a grin. “Sister Guzi, keep firing those shots. Take them out.”
But then she saw Gu Xia’s lips go pale. She staggered back a few steps.
Exhausted?
Before Yan An could ask, the bald man roared again, “The omega’s burned out! Kill them!”
Yan An laughed in disbelief. “You’re already kneeling, and you still dare shout?”
She hefted the axe. “And by the way, did you really think this blade has never tasted bl00d?”
With one swing, she knocked the iron rods from their hands. The axe spun once in her grip, then its blunt back slammed down on one thug’s shoulder.
She immediately swung it at the other one, flooring him just as quickly. Without the bald man’s help, the two were down in moments.
She’d gone easy on them. If she’d used the edge of the axe, they’d be nothing but mangled flesh by now.
Gu Xia had used her last reserves to cripple the strongest fighter first. The rest, she’d left for Yan An.
Yan An moved to Gu Xia’s side, once again taking her hand. When Gu Xia tried to pull away, she warned softly, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
Gu Xia needed to feel just how miraculous a C-rank healing ability could be.
Sure enough, as Yan An channeled her power, a bit of color returned to Gu Xia’s lips.
“Well? Am I amazing or what?” Yan An leaned in, fishing for praise by her ear.
Gu Xia: “……”
“Thank you.”
Coming all this way just to find her, standing in front of her every time, she had remember this.
But Yan An, as always, just ran her mouth: “Just words? That’s all I get?”
Gu Xia: “?”
“Sister Guzi, they say a life-saving debt should be repaid with marriage. Look at me, I’m gorgeous. You wouldn’t be losing out.”
Gu Xia: “……”
With enemies still around, this woman had the nerve to flirt. Unbelievable.
