Transmigrating into a Wasteland Cannon Fodder Slag A [GL Yuri] - Chapter 20
Those who know when to yield are wise.
Hei Ye spoke up to smooth things over, giving Fang Qiang a way out.
“We want to leave for Pingzhou Island. We don’t know how dangerous the road ahead will be, but the only way to survive is to work together.
Your venom, my defenses, their attacks, and Xiao Hua’s healing. Together, we’ll definitely make it safely to Pingzhou Island.”
“Fang Qiang, if you hole up here in the mall, you’re just waiting to die. The number of zombies keeps growing. Sooner or later, they’ll break through.”
Fang Qiang’s expression shifted at Hei Ye’s reasoning. He understood very well that on his own, he couldn’t win against the four of them combined.
“But to reach Pingzhou Island we need a boat, and there are hordes of zombies at the docks. We’ll never get on board. Going there is just throwing our lives away. At least here in the mall, we won’t run out of food or supplies.”
Someone called Xiao Hua has healing powers?
The docks to Pingzhou Island are already swarming with zombies?
Yan An caught onto those details. She exchanged a glance with Gu Xia, both of them wondering. How exactly did they know the docks had fallen?
Yan An didn’t ask. Instead, she pulled out her phone and searched “Pingzhou Island.” Soon enough, information popped up.
The most popular post had been uploaded at nine o’clock that morning.
The video showed masses of zombies, while a woman facing the camera spoke quickly:
“All three docks leading to Pingzhou Island have been overrun. Anyone who hasn’t yet made it there would take the land routes to other cities. Don’t come to the docks anymore.”
When the outbreak started, everyone knew Pingzhou Island’s military base was an evacuation zone. Of course crowds would swarm toward it.
But who could tell who had already been infected? If even one or two carriers turned on the island, countless zombies would follow.
The virus’s spread was no joke.
Yan An slid her phone away, frowning. “What about the land routes?”
“No way.” Fang Qiang pressed his coat against his wound, speaking through gritted teeth. “The cities are too far apart. To reach the next one, it’s either plane or high-speed rail. Driving takes at least three to five days.
And you don’t know how many zombies are on the roads. The nearest city is no better off than Pingzhou. Even if you made it there, it’s still suicide.”
By now Yan An’s body had mostly recovered thanks to her self-repair. She no longer needed Gu Xia’s support, though her hand on Gu Xia’s shoulder didn’t move away.
“So, in other words, Pingzhou Island is the only option left to us?” she asked, fixing her eyes on Fang Qiang.
Then she took the fruit knife from Gu Xia’s hand and tossed it onto the ground near him. “Dig out that bullet. Otherwise, your arm’s finished.”
Fang Qiang didn’t hesitate. He grabbed the knife and drove it straight into his arm.
Yan An had just taken a bottle of disinfectant from her pack. Watching him stab into his own flesh, she froze. Unsure whether to hand it over or hold back.
Hei Ye stepped in, taking the bottle from her hand, setting it on the table beside Fang Qiang, and spinning it toward him.
Fang Qiang twisted the cap and poured it over the wound in one go. His teeth clenched hard enough to crack, but he didn’t let out a single sound.
Once the bleeding was dealt with, he sat sweating and pale, eyes locking on Hei Ye. “We were planning to leave the mall and head for Pingzhou, but there are at least hundreds of thousands of zombies at the docks. Most who went there turned into zombies themselves.
We may have powers, but they aren’t limitless. If we rush in, we’re as good as dead.”
He wasn’t wrong. But unless you tried, you’d never know.
Gu Xia’s voice was steady, almost casual. “You think the Federation will just sit by after evacuation finishes on Pingzhou?”
“Don’t underestimate their weapons. A few missiles, then troops to sweep through. This city can be rebuilt.”
This world had little land and far more ocean. Bridges stretched over the sea for miles—sometimes tens, sometimes hundreds of kilometers.
For humanity, land was precious. Though the first floating city had already been built at staggering cost, land was still irreplaceable.
Pingzhou was huge. One of the Federation’s rare first-tier cities. They wouldn’t abandon it.
“And what makes you so sure?” Fang Qiang shot back. Agreeing to team up with Hei Ye had been a stopgap. With zombies piling around the mall and slim chances of reaching the island, he’d never truly committed.
Gu Xia didn’t so much as blink. “Use your head.”
Yan An pieced it together too, drawing from the knowledge of her body’s original owner—a straight-A student who knew the world well.
“So many cities have fallen. The Federation’s top-tier cities can’t take in everyone.
The temporary refugee stations are basically steel boxes. Summer’s coming. What happens when tens of thousands are crammed in those ovens? What happens when panic breaks out? They’ll storm the cities themselves.
That’s when the Federation will have to clear out the zombies and rebuild. If only to keep hope alive. Make the refugees endure just a little longer.”
The Federation prided itself on strict law and order, but above all. It worshiped money.
Two values that clashed everywhere else, yet were second nature here.
Hei Ye added, “Missiles can level Pingzhou. Rebuilding will be hard, but every zombie will be gone and the people caught in the blast? They won’t stand a chance either.”
That hit home for Fang Qiang. “Fine. I’ll team up with you.”
They hadn’t been desperate for him specifically but an extra fighter meant extra strength. Fang Qiang’s powers alone could take down dozens of zombies.
And he and Hei Ye clearly had escape plans already. They weren’t unprepared. Yan An noticed how Hei Ye visibly relaxed the moment Fang Qiang agreed.
“How long does it take to finish modifying the RV?”
So they had been preparing after all.
Fang Qiang clutched his arm and glared daggers at Yan An.
“Three days. Three days, and it’ll be ready.”
Hei Ye explained, “There’s an RV parked in the mall basement. Inside it, there’s also a sports car and a motorcycle.”
That meant it was enormous, big enough to hold all that.
“Three days?” Gu Xia murmured, thoughtful.
She wanted to leave as soon as possible but she hadn’t even gone home yet.
Yan An patted her shoulder, reading her thoughts. “Three days is enough.”
Then she turned back to Hei Ye and Fang Qiang. “We have some things to take care of. We’ll be back in three days.”
“Where are you going?” Fang Qiang’s tone soured immediately. He had just agreed to team up, and now they were splitting off?
“We need to go downtown. A round trip in three days is plenty. If we don’t make it back, leave without us.”
Yan An didn’t want to go but Gu Xia clearly had to, and of course she would follow.
“No. I don’t agree.” Fang Qiang lifted his gun again, then thought of how the last bullet had mysteriously vanished only to reappear inside him. He lowered it quickly. “If you don’t come back, that’s two fighters gone.”
Gu Xia’s eyes went cold. She wasn’t nearly as patient as Yan An. “Then we don’t need to team up.”
The air froze instantly, tension like ice pressing in from all sides. Three sides, three wills, deadlocked again.
Yan An had regained her strength by now. Stepping forward, her tone hardened. “We’re going to the Public Security Bureau. The guns and ammo there are worth more than any powers in a fight.
And if I remember right, the Bureau isn’t far from Gu Xia’s house. It’s on the way.”
Then she winked at Gu Xia. “Right, wife?”
Gu Xia: “???”
