Transmigrating into a Wasteland Cannon Fodder Slag A [GL Yuri] - Chapter 24
Gu Xia didn’t say anything more, and Yan An didn’t press her. She had a sense of boundaries; asking more would be prying.
The alarm continued to blare in the distance, concentrating the zombies there, so Yan An decided it was safe to move. “Let’s go.”
Night was approaching, which was a disadvantage for them. Humans relied on their vision, and with visibility reduced, it was hard to get away. Zombies were different; their senses of hearing and smell were sharper, so they didn’t need to see. At night, they had the advantage.
The two of them avoided the zombies and headed for Villa number six. They didn’t encounter a single zombie on the way. The people here had either escaped or turned into zombies in the underground garage. There were still some survivors, but it was hard to tell which villa they were in.
Yan An noticed her navigation app was glitching, and there were fewer red dots on the map than before. She couldn’t zoom in to see a clearer, more detailed view. She suspected the network hub in Pingzhou City had been damaged, at least on the outskirts, which would explain the poor signal.
Because of this, she couldn’t see exactly which villas had survivors. The red dots were all clustered together, showing there were still a good number of living people in the complex, but she couldn’t pinpoint their location. She tried several times to get a better view, but the app wouldn’t cooperate.
The two of them hid in another villa. Yan An quickly activated her Eagle Eye to check on the situation, but the page just kept spinning. Eventually, the app forcibly shut down.
“Bad news,” she said. “The network base station in Pingzhou City might be broken.” Otherwise, the signal wouldn’t be this bad.
Gu Xia checked her own phone and found she couldn’t get online either. Without a navigation system, they were flying blind. For humans in a zombie zone, the Eagle Eye was invaluable. Without it, they could stumble into an ambush and be killed.
With the sky darkening and the navigation possibly failing for good, they had to hurry. Yan An smiled at Gu Xia. “Let’s go.”
They made it to Villa number six without any trouble. The door was securely closed, showing no signs of a break-in. Gu Xia stood in front of the door, and the facial recognition scanner opened it right away. The door automatically closed behind them. With this kind of technology, there was no need for a security guard.
As they entered, a robot gracefully glided to them. “Welcome home, Xia.”
Gu Xia nodded. “Thank you, 3201. Where are my parents?” She glanced upstairs. If they were home, they would have come down to greet her.
“Sir and Madam asked me to tell you that they have left on a rescue helicopter. They left a flying vehicle for you in the rooftop garage. Its energy reserve can take you up to 500 kilometers. There are weapons in the safe, which you are welcome to take.” 3201 placed its hands in front of its stomach, bowing slightly. “The following is a video left by Sir and Madam.”
Suddenly, a video projected from 3201’s eyes. It was the first time Yan An had seen what Gu Xia’s mother looked like. She was a beautiful and elegant woman, dressed in a qipao that exuded a sense of nobility.
The woman in the video spoke. “Xia, I sent a rescue team to your school to find you. If all goes well, they will take you directly to the safe zone. If not, you’ve made it home. I’ve left supplies for you to escape. I hope you can make it to the safe zone and meet us there.”
A man’s voice then cut in. “Alright, Xiao Ya, you need to leave now. I hired the best rescue team in Pingzhou. Don’t worry, Xia will be fine.”
A third person’s voice chimed in anxiously. “Sir, Madam, please evacuate immediately. The zombies are about to break into the complex, and some people are attacking the helicopter and the network.” It seemed some of the people who couldn’t escape wanted to drag everyone else down with them.
“Hurry!” A fierce roar ended the video, showing how urgent the situation was.
3201’s mechanical voice announced, “Video playback complete.”
“Thank you, 3201.”
“You’re welcome, Xia. 3201 is now entering silent mode, awaiting the master’s command to restart. Goodbye, master.”
With that, 3201’s eyes went dark. It was a self-shutdown. Yan An watched the robot with curiosity. She had to admit, the robots in this world were quite impressive.
Gu Xia felt a sense of relief knowing her parents had escaped. But why couldn’t she reach them on their phones? Had something gone wrong? She figured her mother must have tried to call her, and when she couldn’t get through, she left the video message with the robot instead.
“Your family’s robot is really high-tech,” Yan An said. She was still adjusting to the technology of this world.
Gu Xia didn’t respond, heading straight upstairs. Yan An followed her. On the second floor, Gu Xia walked into the master bedroom and opened a hidden room. Inside was a large safe. She glanced at Yan An, signaling her to turn away.
Why turn away now? We’ve already been through so much together. Yan An still turned her back. A moment later, Gu Xia’s cold voice said, “It’s done.”
When Yan An turned back, she was shocked by what she saw.
“A high-precision sniper rifle? A submachine gun? And all these handguns? What does your family do, Gu Xia?” What kind of respectable family had all this? Even if they were legal, this was too much!
“Looks like we don’t have to go to the Safety Bureau anymore.” There were so many zombies there. Even if they got in, they might not be able to find the armory.
Gu Xia was also surprised to see so many weapons in the safe. “Let’s get what we need and be ready to leave.”
Yan An nodded. After Gu Xia chose a submachine gun and a handgun, Yan An slung the sniper rifle over her shoulder and put two handguns in her backpack, along with a bit of ammunition. She stashed the rest of the guns and ammo in her spatial storage. “If we run low on ammo, just come to me.” As she said it, she realized something. I’m healing people, stocking up on supplies, and providing ammo. I’m literally the team healer. I’m doing all the logistics by myself.
Gu Xia nodded, understanding her meaning. When they returned to Hei Ye’s group, they couldn’t show them all their weapons and ammunition. They had to keep something in reserve. After all, in a post-apocalyptic world, you had to watch out for both zombies and people.
“Oh, by the way, you said you wanted to date me. Do my parents approve?” she asked. Why would someone from such a good family be interested in a scumbag like my past self?
Gu Xia paused, looking at the gun she just picked up. She hadn’t even fired it yet.
