Transmigrating into a Wasteland Cannon Fodder Slag A [GL Yuri] - Chapter 29.1
Five o’clock.
A knock came at the office door, growing more and more frantic.
Gu Xia went over to the window. Seeing Huang Yunyun and Zhang Xiu outside, she gave a heads-up.
Only then did Yan An open the door. The two women outside looked at her cold face, their expressions a little awkward.
Yan An wasn’t about to indulge them. “Did you bring zombies here? Are you going to fight them off?”
Who knocks on a door so aggressively during the apocalypse? Zombies are incredibly sensitive to sound. If they knew there were people in this company, they’d rush in like mad. The glass door here wouldn’t stand a chance against them.
Huang Yunyun knew she was in the wrong and lowered her head, not daring to speak.
Meanwhile, Zhang Xiu looked absolutely terrified. “Are you going to abandon us? You’re running away, aren’t you? Without us?!”
“Are you even human?” Zhang Xiu cursed wildly, as if she had gone crazy.
Yan An frowned. “So what? Why should we take you with us?”
Why did they think others had an obligation to save them?
“The Federation doesn’t even care about you. Do you really think your life or death has anything to do with me?”
Yan An showed no mercy to people like this.
Gu Xia leaned against the window, watching the drama unfold.
It was Huang Yunyun who stopped Zhang Xiu, stepping forward to say, “Please, we just want to live. We know you’re very capable, and we only have a chance if we stick with you.”
“We’re so scared. Staying here is a death sentence. We just want to follow you. You don’t have to look after us, just let us tag along.”
Her words sounded nice, but only an idiot would believe them.
Yan An was silent for a moment before she finally said, “You can follow behind us, but we won’t be responsible for your lives.”
“Whether you survive or not is none of our business.”
As for why Fang Qiang was willing to take them, they had probably already figured it out, even if it hadn’t happened yet.
Yan An’s attitude remained the same; she didn’t want to get involved.
Huang Yunyun nodded quickly. “Okay, that’s all we need.”
Zhang Xiu tried to say more, but Huang Yunyun held her back, preventing her from speaking. Huang Yunyun could tell that this was the absolute limit of what Yan An would agree to.
With that, Yan An ignored them and looked at the rope fixed to the desk.
*******
At 5:50, Yan An saw Hei Ye giving her a signal from the opposite building. She then turned to Gu Xia. “I’ll go down and scout ahead. You follow after me.”
After she said that, she looked at Huang Yunyun next to her with a warning in her eyes. “If the first person to come down isn’t you, I’ll kill them.”
She was worried that since Gu Xia didn’t speak much, the two women would assume she was an easy target and try to stop her from going down.
Yan An’s early warning made Huang Yunyun and Zhang Xiu’s faces change drastically. It seemed she had seen right through them.
“Sis, I’ll be waiting for you down there.”
Gu Xia nodded. “Okay.” She didn’t take out her gun. With her own abilities, if these two tried to stir up trouble, she wouldn’t hesitate.
Yan An turned back, her eyes fixed on Gu Xia for a few seconds before a smile suddenly broke across her face. “Sis, I’ll catch you down below.”
She patted her own shoulder, signaling that she was reliable.
Gu Xia: “…”
What a joker.
Yan An let out a small laugh, put on a pair of black, fingerless leather gloves, and slid down the rope with one hand. She moved incredibly fast, reaching the ground from the second floor in just two seconds.
This was her speed after her physical fitness had improved again.
If Gu Xia were more practiced, she’d be even faster, as her body was naturally stronger.
But Gu Xia’s skills weren’t quite there yet. She needed time to improve, and eventually, she’d be formidable even without her ability.
Yan An got down first and immediately came across two zombies. She didn’t use her gun. The axe she’d been carrying the whole time appeared in her hand, and she took care of the zombies in a few quick swings.
She then hid behind a wall, concealing herself as she scanned her surroundings. When she saw that no other zombies had noticed, she tugged the rope, signaling that it was safe for Gu Xia to come down.
Gu Xia saw the rope move and immediately climbed out the window. She shot a cold glance at Huang Yunyun and Zhang Xiu.
The two women were staring at her with desperate anticipation. Zhang Xiu’s eyes, however, held a flicker of resentment.
Gu Xia had been about to give them a few pointers, but seeing the hatred in Zhang Xiu’s eyes, she decided against it. Instead, she copied Yan An, putting on her gloves and slowly sliding down.
She was far more skilled at it than her first time, when she had to cling to Yan An and let her climb with her on her back.
Thinking of that moment, a faint blush crept up Gu Xia’s cheeks. She felt a bit embarrassed.
While Yan An always made her feel safe, Gu Xia secretly hated feeling like a burden.
Fortunately, now that she had awakened her ability, her physical condition was improving, and a task like this was no longer a challenge.
As soon as Gu Xia touched down, Yan An immediately pulled her close. “You didn’t get scraped, did you?”
There were no footholds on the wall, so they had to slide down all at once, which could easily scrape their hands.
“I’m fine.”
The moment Gu Xia spoke, Yan An grabbed her hand to check, and only after seeing that she was truly okay did she relax.
“I just scouted ahead. There’s a shed by the road with a lot of seats and a small bar inside. There are two zombies in there. If we kill them and hide, we’ll be able to get in the car as soon as it pulls up.”
With thousands of zombies roaming around, the moment the car drove out, it would attract every single one of them. They would be at risk of being attacked as they tried to get in. It was too dangerous to get in with thousands of zombies swarming, so they had to prepare in advance.
Yan An patted Gu Xia on the shoulder, telling her to wait there while she moved toward the bar. The distance was only about ten meters, but there were a dozen zombies in between.
She held her pistol with the silencer tightly. She would fire only when the shot was a guaranteed kill, and most importantly, she couldn’t be detected. If she was too obvious, the other zombies would notice.
Yan An had only moved a few meters when a scream suddenly echoed out. She immediately looked back and saw Zhang Xiu sliding down from the second floor, only to fall heavily onto the ground.
Dozens of zombies heard the noise and swarmed toward her. Zhang Xiu, ignoring her pain, ran wildly toward Yan An, screaming, “Save me! Please, save me!”
This was all it took. The nearby zombies began to stir, and then the thousands of zombies in the area started running toward the sound of her screams.
Yan An cursed under her breath. She sprinted toward the bar, quickly gunned down the two zombies inside, and slammed the door shut.
The bar wasn’t very tall, and the zombies on the other side roared as they tried to climb over, attempting to grab Yan An.
Since the zombies were already alerted, and Gu Xia had been exposed, she began firing her submachine gun, providing suppressive fire as she moved closer to the bar.
Yan An reached out and pulled Gu Xia in. Gu Xia stepped on a chair and, with a few quick moves, was on top of the bar, then jumped down inside.
They used the bar’s equipment to create a higher barricade, leaving a small gap for them to shoot through.
When they had a moment to look at Zhang Xiu, the woman had already been grabbed by the zombies. They were tearing at her, her shoulder a bloody mess.
*******
Meanwhile, Huang Yunyun was standing at the second-floor window, hesitating whether to come down.
Yan An took out her walkie-talkie, pressing the button to speak. “When are you guys coming out?”
The moment she finished speaking, an armored car roared to life, and the loud noise drew a portion of the zombies away.
But the zombies around the bar didn’t leave. They were still trying to get in, and the machines they had stacked on top of the counter were being knocked to the floor.
Gu Xia’s submachine gun didn’t stop firing, but there were too many zombies. Even if it were just a few thousand pigs charging at them, no one could handle it!
The sound of gunfire and the car’s engine attracted even more zombies.
With all the zombies still inside Building A, there were easily tens of thousands of them in this area alone.
If they got trapped, the zombies could flip a truck, let alone an armored car.
Thankfully, Hei Ye’s RV also drove out. The driver was Xiao Feng, and Hei Ye opened the car door, yelling at the two women, “Hurry up and get in!”
Twenty meters wasn’t a huge distance, but there were too many zombies around them.
Yan An’s pistol was almost smoking, and Gu Xia’s submachine gun was spraying bullets as if they were free, desperately trying to keep the zombies at bay.
The next second, four earthen walls rose up around them, enclosing them inside.
Knowing that Hei Ye had used her ability, the two of them quickly started walking toward the RV.
But there were many zombies near Hei Ye’s car as well, so she had to close the door first.
If she could have created a single earthen tunnel, it would have been much easier, but for a C-class ability user, she was already doing her best.
Having gone through multiple battles, Yan An and Gu Xia’s reflexes and speed were far superior to what they were in the beginning. They ran toward the car door with practiced ease.
As they reached the vehicle, the earthen walls fell away, and Hei Ye quickly opened the door, letting them get inside.
Even though they were in the car, they couldn’t relax. Luckily, the RV was tall enough that the zombies couldn’t climb onto the roof.
But the sheer number of zombies meant they could easily flip the car over, and they would be done for.
Hei Ye shouted at the driver. “Hurry up and go!”
“There’s… there’s someone,” Xiao Feng stammered, looking at Huang Yunyun on the second floor of Building B.
Huang Yunyun fought through her fear and climbed out the window. But she didn’t dare climb down. With so many zombies below, going down meant certain death. But not going down was just a slower death.
Suddenly, Xiao Feng jerked the steering wheel, turning the car toward Building B. He drove it up the steps and stopped right below the window.
The RV was over two meters tall, so Huang Yunyun could jump down. She was far more rational than her colleague and jumped without a moment’s hesitation.
But then an accident happened. The car got stuck on the steps and couldn’t move. Fang Qiang’s armored car was already far away, so they were on their own.
Huang Yunyun landed on the roof of the car and jumped into the gap between the vehicle and the wall, barely making it inside.
She gave Yan An an awkward glance, knowing it was Zhang Xiu’s screaming that had put them in danger.
If she had gone down first, she wouldn’t have screamed, no matter how scared she was.
A sudden sense of clarity washed over Huang Yunyun. She hadn’t had any malicious intentions; they were just coworkers. Why should she feel embarrassed for someone else’s actions?
Having come to this realization, she stopped looking at Yan An and tried to shrink into a corner, making herself as inconspicuous as possible.
Yan An, however, didn’t pay her any mind. She simply snapped at Xiao Feng. “Get out of the way.”
If the car stayed stuck much longer, the zombies would surely flip it over. To save just one person, they were all in grave danger.
The bald man whom Yan An had disciplined earlier shouted angrily, “Are you a damn idiot? You’re going to get us all killed to save one person!”
Hei Ye’s face also darkened. She hadn’t expected her subordinate to do something like this.
Xiao Feng, chastised, stood frozen in place, not moving a muscle. Yan An pulled him aside in exasperation and got into the driver’s seat herself.
She slammed the car into reverse, plowing through an unknown number of zombies. The car’s speed was so fast that everyone inside was thrown around.
Yan An didn’t slow down. Just as the back of the car was about to hit the wall, she slammed the brakes and shifted into drive.
She sped forward, hitting many more zombies and a stray parasol as she flew off the steps.
Her reckless speed terrified everyone in the car, but no one dared to speak. To break through the zombie congestion and escape, she had to accelerate. The moment she slowed down, the car would be swallowed by the dense hoard.
Luckily, Fang Qiang had used his armored car to clear a path.
Yan An floored the gas pedal. A zombie suddenly lunged onto the windshield, smashing its head against the glass. Cracks quickly formed.
Yan An was driving and couldn’t shoot. She couldn’t even see the road ahead, relying only on memory.
“Gu Xia!”
She yelled out. The next second, the zombie was shot in the head. Black-and-red bl00d splattered across the windshield, but the zombie rolled off, giving her a brief, partial view of the road.
