Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot (GL) - Chapter 8
Jiang Chi slowly awoke from her slumber, the blanket slipping off her as she moved. She caught it and glanced incredulously at Wen Wen, who was still diligently working, before unconsciously curling her lips into a smile.
Her gaze swept around the room, but she didn’t make a sound to disturb her. Instead, she quietly pulled out her phone and played with it for a while before growing bored and setting it aside, her eyes settling back on Wen Wen.
The person in her line of sight suddenly frowned, and Jiang Chi instinctively mirrored the expression yet her lips curved upward.
How could someone look so good even when frowning?
The way she focused on her work was captivating too…
By the time Wen Wen finally finished reviewing the documents and looked up, Jiang Chi was seated across the desk, chin propped on her palm, watching her in silence.
When their eyes met, Jiang Chi’s instantly brightened. “Are we finally done for the day?”
She really hadn’t thrown a tantrum like before. Wen Wen couldn’t help but think that, according to their usual routine, Jiang Chi would have pestered her to go to the library together or do something else, only to grow bored and fall asleep. Upon waking, she’d then whine about leaving to go have fun and Wen Wen could never refuse her.
What Jiang Chi didn’t know, however, was that Wen Wen always finished her work while she slept. The rest of the time, Wen Wen would simply watch her sleeping face, for as long as she slept, Wen Wen would watch, never tiring of it. Then, when Jiang Chi woke up, Wen Wen would pretend to still be busy, waiting for her to cling and wheedle her way into going out together.
Wen Wen thoroughly enjoyed the entire process.
Seeing no response, Jiang Chi assumed she still had work left and immediately deflated, disappointment plain on her face. “You’re not done yet?”
Wen Wen shook her head slightly. “I’m done.”
The dimmed light in Jiang Chi’s eyes flared back to life. “Then let’s go! Come on, come on!” She stood up, folding the blanket draped over her and placing it neatly on the chair.
Wen Wen watched her movements before saying, “But it’s late now.”
It was already nine.
Jiang Chi pouted. “Are you trying to brush me off again?”
“No.” After a moment’s thought, Wen Wen packed up her things and stood. “Let’s go.”
They took Wen Wen’s car to the nail salon.
When they arrived to find the shop dark and closed, Jiang Chi turned a resentful gaze toward the driver. “You knew they were already closed, didn’t you?”
Wen Wen didn’t deny it the salon closed at eight every day.
Jiang Chi studied the shut door pensively. “You brought me here knowing they were closed so I’d have no excuse to cling to you anymore, right? So we could go our separate ways and you’d be free?”
Wen Wen didn’t deny that either, it had been exactly her intention.
“Wen-jie, do you really dislike me that much? I want to be with you every single second.”
Wen Wen countered, “Then why do you want to be with me? What’s the point?”
The question caught Jiang Chi off guard. Her previously steady gaze faltered, and after a long hesitation, she dodged the question entirely. “Does everything have to have a point?”
“Not exactly.” Wen Wen didn’t deny her thoughts but presented her own perspective. “When something involves two people, if both consider it meaningful or meaningless, then it is so. But if one finds meaning while the other doesn’t, then it truly is meaningless.”
“Do you understand what I mean?”
“All this philosophical talk you’re just saying you don’t want to see me and that I shouldn’t come looking for you!” Jiang Chi cut straight to the point.
Wen Wen couldn’t deny it.
Jiang Chi felt inexplicably angry, but she held it in, murmuring softly, “Fine. If you don’t want to see me, I’ll leave right now.”
With that, she opened the car door and stepped out. The moment she shut it, the car drove off without hesitation.
She really left! All Jiang Chi had wanted was for Wen Wen to comfort her a little.
But then again, why should Wen Wen have to comfort her?
Yet why…
Even though she understood the reasoning, watching the taillights disappear still left her feeling so wronged, her heart so heavy.
She shouldn’t feel this way…
After taking a taxi home, the moment she stepped inside, Jiang Chi happened to see her father feeding a peeled orange segment to her mother. Hearing the door, the couple on the sofa turned in unison: “Our little princess is back.”
Jiang Chi tossed her things onto the nearby sofa, then stretched her arms around them from behind, hugging both at once. “Mom, Dad.” She nuzzled her head against Liu Ci’s cheek before turning to Jiang Qingyuan, mouth open. “Dad, I want some orange too.”
Obliging, Jiang Qingyuan peeled another segment and fed it to her. Satisfied, Jiang Chi chewed and squeezed herself between them. “Sorry, Mom and Dad, guess I’ll be your third wheel for a bit.”
The couple exchanged a glance before both leaning toward her.
Liu Ci gently stroked her head. “What’s wrong, sweetheart? Did something happen?”
Jiang Qingyuan added, “You can tell us anything. There’s nothing our family can’t solve together.”
Her father’s voice was always so steady and reassuring. Jiang Chi rested her head on his shoulder and mumbled, “Dad, tell me, am I likable?”
“Of course! Who in this family doesn’t adore our little princess?”
Jiang Chi then leaned against Liu Ci. “Mom, tell me… am I pretty?”
Liu Ci smiled tenderly. “Everyone says you look like me. Do you think I’m pretty?”
“Pretty.” Jiang Chi wrapped her arms around Liu Ci’s waist. “You’re the most no, the second prettiest in my heart.”
“You little ingrate.” Liu Ci playfully nudged her head. “You used to say I was the prettiest in the world. Now I’m second? Well, who’s taken first place?”
“Hmm…” Jiang Chi pretended to ponder deeply before grinning mischievously. “I won’t tell you yet. Once I win her over, I’ll bring her home for you to see.”
“Alright.” Liu Ci agreed gently, not pressing further. “So, what happened today? Did Su Jing upset you again?”
“No, it’s not about him.”
Mentioning Su Jing, Jiang Chi suddenly remembered, this damn storyline. Who knew if it would even let her break up with him?
Their relationship wasn’t officially publicized within or outside their social circles, yet nearly everyone knew about it. To outsiders, it appeared as Jiang Chi relentlessly and flamboyantly pursuing Su Jing without having succeeded yet. However, both families and close friends were aware of each other’s existence.
Jiang Qingyuan and Liu Ci weren’t entirely pleased with Su Jing, but for their daughter’s sake, they didn’t make things difficult. Instead, they indulged her in every way. She had met Su Jing’s parents once, and they were quite satisfied with her, even urging them to marry soon.
Thinking of this, Jiang Chi suddenly felt she might have forgotten something very important.
Before she could figure it out, Liu Ci’s voice interrupted her thoughts: “If it’s not about him, then what is it, sweetheart? Don’t bear everything alone your father and I are here for you.”
“Okay, Mom, but I’m fine,” Jiang Chi stood up, blew kisses to both Liu Ci and Jiang Qingyuan, and quickly ran upstairs. “I won’t be your third wheel anymore.”
The next day, Jiang Chi disguised herself as a delivery person again to visit Wen Wen’s company this time as a flower delivery person. She bought nine roses and personally learned how to wrap them beautifully from the florist.
She entered the building just as smoothly as before. Unbeknownst to her, the receptionist called Wen Wen immediately after she left: “President Wen, Miss Jiang is on her way up. Today, she brought flowers.”
Wen Wen was surprised: “Are you sure it’s her?”
“Yes, absolutely. And Miss Jiang hasn’t dyed her hair today.”
Wen Wen was all too familiar with Jiang Chi’s recent behavior. In the past, whenever Jiang Chi made a mistake, she would act like this to win her back, pretending as if nothing had happened, acting spoiled and shamelessly clinging to her. Wen Wen had never ignored her for more than a day before, knowing Jiang Chi’s tendency to lose interest quickly except when it came to Su Jing.
She didn’t dare test whether ignoring her for too long would truly sever their connection. But back then, she hadn’t wanted to cut ties.
This time was different. Wen Wen genuinely wanted to end things.
So, faced with Jiang Chi’s old tricks, she tried her best to turn a blind eye, believing that out of sight would mean out of mind.
At first, she had doubted that night in the Jiang family’s hotel garage, Jiang Chi had acted as if she truly didn’t recognize her, chattering away and calling her “pretty sister.” But her subordinates later reported that nothing unusual had happened to Jiang Chi; her daily life remained unchanged.
People don’t just lose their memories for no reason. It must have been Jiang Chi’s acting skills improving.
Wen Wen dismissed it.
Surprisingly, Jiang Chi persisted longer than she had expected. Did that mean, perhaps she still held some place in Jiang Chi’s heart? Even if only as her best friend.
So yesterday, she had instructed the receptionist to let Jiang Chi in if she came again giving her one last chance.
But Jiang Chi seized the opportunity without intending to use it.
No apology, not a single word about reconciliation as if nothing had happened, as if they were strangers…
Now that it was clear Jiang Chi had no real intentions, Wen Wen felt there was no need for them to meet again. That was why she had said those words yesterday, making her stance unmistakable.
She thought Jiang Chi would finally stop at this point.
But then again, she should have known the extent of Jiang Chi’s persistence. If she weren’t persistent enough, Jiang Chi wouldn’t have made such a grand spectacle of pursuing Su Jing for an entire year back then so much so that even Wen Wen, who was abroad at the time, had heard the rumors.
“*I got it.”
No sooner had Wen Wen hung up the phone than the office door was pushed open. Watching the red head peek out from behind a bouquet of blue roses, she silently asked in her heart: Jiang Chi, what am I supposed to do with you? What should I even do?
“Ta-da~ Sis~ Aren’t you surprised? Aren’t you thrilled to see me?” She held the bouquet out to Wen Wen with both hands, as if presenting a treasure.
Wen Wen didn’t take the flowers, only replying coolly, “I thought we made ourselves clear yesterday.”
“I don’t care.” Jiang Chi crossed her arms defiantly, completely unreasonable. “You stood me up for four days, so you owe me four days in return. Back then, every trip to the hospital, including the time for applying medicine, took at least two hours. So you owe me at least two hours every day.”
Wen Wen arched a brow. “Are you some kind of scoundrel? Do you know how much my two hours are worth?”
“If you say I am, then I am.” Jiang Chi ignored the latter question, leaning her hands on the desk and staring straight into her eyes her gaze so piercing it seemed to see through every thought. “Or, Sis, why don’t you tell me is there any way I can stay by your side without being a scoundrel?”
For a moment, Wen Wen’s heart stopped, then raced wildly.
No matter when, the body’s reactions were always more honest than words.
Wen Wen leaned back in her chair, her expression unreadable. “Fine, two hours it is. Today counts as—”
“The first day.” Jiang Chi finished for her.
“Alright, the first day it is. Later, let me know the time slots you want, and I’ll have my secretary adjust my schedule.”
“Great! I’ve already planned today’s, you’re taking me out for coffee at 3 p.m.” Jiang Chi grinned.
Wen Wen nodded. “No problem. Then, for now—”
“I’ll wait here for you!” Without waiting for a response, Jiang Chi asked, “Do you have a vase here? I want to arrange these flowers.”
Wen Wen’s gaze shifted from the flowers to the person before her, pausing briefly before replying calmly, “You can ask my secretary.”
“Got it.” Jiang Chi immediately headed for the door, flowers in hand, and winked. “Focus on your work, but when the time comes, even if you’re not done, I’m dragging you away.”
Dragging away…
Wen Wen watched her retreating figure until she left the office, then lowered her head to resume reviewing the documents.
Jiang Chi asked the secretary for a ceramic vase, filled it with water herself, and carefully arranged each stem inside. After circling the office with the vase in her arms and finding no spot that felt right, she simply placed it directly on Wen Wen’s ridiculously wide desk.
Right beside Wen Wen’s left hand.
Sitting across from her, Jiang Chi glanced between the flowers and Wen Wen, sighing dramatically. “More enchanting, more alluring, more beautiful than the flowers themselves.”
Wen Wen’s pen paused mid-signature. She slowly looked up. “If you keep distracting me like this, I won’t finish my work and then you won’t get to drag me away later.”
“I didn’t really do anything,” Jiang Chi said innocently, propping his chin on his hand with a teasing smile. “Sister just wants to be whisked away by me, doesn’t she?”
