Two-Faced Girlfriend - Chapter 5.1
The dusk in Weixiu City was the most beautiful dusk Xu Yawei had ever seen.
The sun approached the horizon closely. Just the right amount of clouds glowed with vivid, rich colors.
Orange sunlight scattered randomly on the glass of buildings, like little avatars of the sun.
It had just rained.
The air held no dampness or summer’s stuffiness.
It felt cool, as if she were soaking in a bath.
That afternoon, her parents called.
They were in good health and excitedly shared their joy about buying new clothes.
A close friend got engaged that afternoon too.
She and her boyfriend safely passed the three-year itch and finally tied the knot.
The hotel staff greeted her politely.
The dinner tasted good too.
Everything felt beautiful and gentle.
But why couldn’t she feel happy?
Xu Yawei stood alone on the hotel’s rooftop.
The evening breeze made her long hair flutter.
Unknowingly, colorful lights replaced the dusk, covering the city, just like her heart, which sank unknowingly.
The busy film crew got a rare day off, but Xu Yawei’s mood didn’t improve.
The person she wanted to spend time with had already promised this precious holiday to someone else.
Early that morning, Xu Yawei saw Si Man get into a strange woman’s car.
Si Man didn’t explain, and Xu Yawei had no standing to ask.
Xu Yawei lost her mood for fun and gave the time to silence instead.
Alone that day, she thought a lot—about how she and Si Man started, how their relationship grew, and what their future held.
Every relationship felt sweetest at the beginning.
Back then, she could flirt with Si Man openly and make requests.
Later, she became more and more passive, less daring to share her thoughts.
She wanted her career to soar but didn’t want to rely on Si Man for everything.
The more she got from Si Man, the less courage she had to confess her feelings.
She thought that by working hard and climbing up, she’d one day speak to Si Man as an equal.
But the reality was, without Si Man’s connections, without her influence, someone from an ordinary family like Xu Yawei.
No matter how hard she tried, couldn’t survive in the entertainment industry.
She was like a parasite, living off Si Man’s wealth, network, ability, and talent.
Without Si Man, she’d be done for.
When she’d crash depended entirely on Si Man.
They’d known each other for a year.
From hitting it off instantly and quickly ending up in bed, to now, their conversations grew fewer.
Their meetings seemed only for kissing and s3x.
How long until she died in the entertainment world?
How long until Si Man tired of her?
How long until Si Man found a new lover?
Would Si Man even come back tonight?
These questions weighed on Xu Yawei’s heart like heavy cauldrons, crushing her until she couldn’t breathe.
Just as Xu Yawei nearly drowned in the sad whirlpool she created, her shoulders, forgotten in the cool breeze, suddenly warmed.
Comfortable fabric draped over her.
Her shoulders warmed, but the earlier chill hit her senses fully.
So cold.
Xu Yawei shivered slightly and turned her head.
“Si Man?”
Si Man stood behind her, unnoticed until now.
She wore the same black dress Xu Yawei saw that morning, but the elegant white jacket was gone.
Xu Yawei didn’t question it—she knew it was now on her shoulders.
A flash of emotion and surprise passed through her eyes.
“Surprised to see me? Did I disturb you?”
Xu Yawei shook her head, pretending to be calm, and turned her gaze back to the night view.
“No.”
Si Man looked at the night view too.
“Not cold? What were you thinking about so seriously that you didn’t notice me behind you?”
“Nothing.”
Si Man glanced at her.
“Really? You used to tell me without hesitation when you were fantasizing about me in your head.”
Xu Yawei looked at Si Man’s elegant profile and fell into deep thought.
Was that true?
She thought Si Man had changed, but had she herself changed so obviously too?
The one who spoke first or showed their feelings first lost the upper hand, especially for the weaker one in the relationship.
A carefree, heartless canary was more likely to be cherished.
Xu Yawei wanted to reclaim the state she had when she first met Si Man.
She skillfully buried her thoughts, her face taking on her usual seductive charm.
She leaned softly against Si Man, wrapping her arms around her neck.
“I was just worried you were tired after pleasing your new lover.”
Si Man’s smile deepened, but she said frankly, “What new lover?”
“I saw you leave this morning.”
Her complaint carried three parts truth, three parts casualness, and the rest pure seduction.
“Just a friend. More precisely, my sister’s friend.”
Xu Yawei saw that Si Man didn’t plan to explain further.
She didn’t want to ask more either and just let her desire flirt with Si Man.
