Unexpected (GL) - Chapter 21
The dorm bed was not very big, but it was not too small either. It was more than enough for Xie Jing to sleep alone. Even if Qin Ning joined her, it would not feel crowded. Still, Qin Ning lay half-turned, pressing close to Xie Jing.
“Go to sleep.”
“Mhm,” Xie Jing nodded, then tilted her head and fell into a deep sleep.
Xie Jing was covered with a silk quilt that Lady Xie Ruzhuo had urgently sent over. The silk quilt was soft and smooth, light and comfortable.
Xie Jing had the habit of kicking off the quilt. After noticing this, Qin Ning had no choice but to hug her tightly through the quilt.
At one point, Xie Jing woke up from the heat. She looked at Qin Ning with a flushed face and half-open eyes, then mumbled “Night Talk White Egret,” “Kiss kiss, wife,” before falling asleep again.
Qin Ning’s forehead twitched, and she leaned close to Xie Jing’s ear, unable to hold back, whispering: “You’re a Qixiu, why are you poisoned by Night Talk White Egret?”
“You’re actually Sword Pure, right, Xie Jing!” This was clearly Qixiu’s body with Sword Pure’s heart. How could someone be murmuring Night Talk White Egret even in their dreams?
Unfortunately, Xie Jing was fast asleep and did not hear Qin Ning’s complaint.
Xie Jing slept deeply until almost six o’clock. When she opened her eyes, she immediately saw Qin Ning very close by.
Xie Jing was first stunned, then realized what had happened before sleeping. Her ears instantly turned bright red.
“Qin Ning… you, you were already awake? Why didn’t you wake me?”
“Not time yet.” Qin Ning lifted the quilt on her side, pulled her phone from under the pillow, glanced at it, and said meaningfully, “Besides, you kept talking in your sleep. I didn’t want to
disturb you.”
“Huh? What did I say in my sleep?” Xie Jing had no memory of it at all and didn’t remember what she dreamed about.
“You said… Night Talk White Egret is your wife for life.” Qin Ning stared at Xie Jing with dark eyes and teased, “Maybe you dreamed you became a roasted lamb skewer.”
Xie Jing: “???”
“I wouldn’t have such a strange dream,” Xie Jing scratched her head in disbelief.
Qin Ning said nothing but calmly played a 3-minute recording from her phone for Xie Jing from start to finish.
After listening, Xie Jing quickly covered her bright red cheeks: “Saved my life, Sword Three is harming me.”
Luckily, Qin Ning only played it once and turned off the recording. Xie Jing stayed hidden under the quilt, upset for a while, then got out of bed like a scared quail.
They first went to the school cafeteria for dinner, then walked toward the playground, planning to take a stroll to help digest.
“Wow, someone is singing over there!” Xie Jing suddenly pointed to a group gathered on the grass and excitedly pulled Qin Ning’s hand.
In the crowd, a small temporary stage was set up. Around the stage were some speakers. Sitting in the middle was a girl with big pink wavy hair, singing a very popular folk song while playing her
own guitar.
Xie Jing was so captivated that she didn’t want to move and just sat down with Qin Ning on the lawn.
“Qin Ning,” Xie Jing cupped her face in her hands and said, “The ‘Little Luck’ you sang last time was really good.”
Qin Ning: “That song was made just for you.”
What Qin Ning didn’t say was that she had practiced that song for a long time.
She tilted her head to glance at Xie Jing and suddenly remembered that day when Xie Jing sang a duet of “Outside Shen Garden” with Shen Xinghe. At that time, Xie Jing sang the song very passionately
and emotionally.
Qin Ning hinted: “Too bad someone was just busy chatting with their head down that day.”
“I didn’t know you liked me back then.” If Xie Jing had known Qin Ning had sung that song just for her, she definitely wouldn’t have been distracted and would have listened to the whole song
carefully.
Qin Ning smiled: “It’s not too late to know now.”
“Can you sing it again?” Xie Jing looked at Qin Ning with eager eyes. “This time I’ll listen carefully.”
“Sure.”
“Wait here.”
Qin Ning stood up from the grass. At that moment, the folk singer was finishing her last note, and applause erupted around.
Qin Ning talked with the girl for about ten seconds and successfully borrowed the microphone.
Xie Jing watched Qin Ning’s figure closely in the center of the crowd.
Qin Ning was worthy of being in the dance club — not only was she pretty, but her legs were long, and just standing there without doing anything was pleasant to watch.
Xie Jing was fascinated and then listened to “Little Luck” again completely.
The applause around rose again.
After Qin Ning finished singing and was about to return the microphone, a girl suddenly blocked her path.
The song was ending, and the girl was only one or two meters away from Qin Ning.
Xie Jing stretched her neck and looked confused at the girl blocking Qin Ning. Was she going to sing a duet with Qin Ning?
“Sorry, I already have a girlfriend.”
Xie Jing: “!!!”
Qin Ning forgot to turn off the microphone, so when her voice came through the speakers, Xie Jing took a deep breath and stared at them tightly. Then she held her breath.
So that girl was confessing to Qin Ning just now?
Qin Ning was so pretty. It was normal for someone to confess to her.
But somehow, even though Qin Ning rejected her so openly in front of everyone, Xie Jing still felt a bit heavy in her heart.
Xie Jing pressed her chest a few times, shook her head, and pushed those messy thoughts away.
Qin Ning returned soon, sat back next to Xie Jing, and reached out, intertwining their fingers.
“Why are your hands so cold?”
Qin Ning frowned, breathed warm air on Xie Jing’s hand, then cupped and rubbed it.
“That girl just now… I didn’t add her on WeChat.”
Xie Jing’s hand warmed up again, and her heart felt warm too, like it was being comforted.
“Oh… why tell me? I’m not that petty.”
Qin Ning looked down at her teasing girlfriend and said helplessly, “I wanted to report to you.”
“Got it.” Xie Jing happily slipped her hand into Qin Ning’s coat pocket and leaned on her.
“Hehe, my dear, I will keep myself pure for you.”
Qin Ning: “…”
Qin Ning really wanted to open Xie Jing’s head and see what she was thinking — how could there still be emperors in the world when the Qing dynasty was long gone?
Xie Jing kept pushing it further: “My dear, dance for me again when we get back to the dorm.”
Qin Ning: “…”
“Qin Ning, why aren’t you saying anything?” Seeing Qin Ning silent, Xie Jing suddenly leaned closer and blinked at her.
Qin Ning: “I don’t dare speak, afraid I’ll say the wrong thing and get executed along with my family.”
“No way.” Xie Jing glanced around and secretly kissed Qin Ning. “You’re my only precious girlfriend. How could I let go?”
Qin Ning looked down at Xie Jing. A faint light flickered in her eyes. “Back to the dorm?”
“No.” Xie Jing glanced at the stage, “I still want to listen to the pretty sister sing.”
Hearing this, Qin Ning suddenly pulled her coat to cover Xie Jing completely, then bent down and kissed her.
Xie Jing was surprised and whispered in Qin Ning’s arms, “How can you kiss me here with so many people?”
Qin Ning: “You started it.”
“Doesn’t mean it’s the same.” Xie Jing complained, “I didn’t stick out my tongue.”
“Mhm, sorry.” Qin Ning asked again, “Back to the dorm?”
“All right.” After Qin Ning kissed her, Xie Jing lost the desire to keep listening and nodded, holding onto Qin Ning’s shoulder as she stood.
“Let’s go, back to fold the roses.” Xie Jing was excited like a bird returning to its nest.
Unfortunately, the roses were still not folded. As soon as they entered the dorm, Qin Ning pressed Xie Jing against the door and kissed her for half an hour. Xie Jing’s legs went weak, she could
barely stand and had to lean on Qin Ning’s arm around her waist.
Xie Jing blamed Qin Ning. They had agreed to only kiss once a day, but they had kissed so many times again.
How could this go on? Xie Jing felt like her whole body smelled like lemons — not just her mouth, but her face and body were soaked in Qin Ning’s scent.
“Still want to see me dance?”
Qin Ning helped Xie Jing fix her messy hair after setting her down.
“Uh… next time, definitely.”
Xie Jing felt a fire inside her now, not suitable to watch a dance. She decided to wait until she calmed down tomorrow.
Xie Jing hurried to wash up. After washing, she took out some sponge paper.
She still had half the roses left to fold and thought that with one more day of folding, she could finish all 99.
To avoid randomly kissing Qin Ning again, Xie Jing took the sponge paper to bed and planned to fold quietly behind the bed curtain.
Qin Ning noticed this childish move but pretended not to see it. She took a piece of cardstock from the bookshelf and filled it with words.
This was her letter to Xie Jing.
They spent the whole night quietly busy with their own things.
The next morning, Xie Jing stretched and subconsciously called out, “Qin Ning.”
Qin Ning’s voice came from under the bed: “Awake? Come down for breakfast.”
Xie Jing ran down quickly and found a thermal lunch box on her desk.
Their dorm only allowed electricity over 500 watts, so devices like kettles and lunch boxes were allowed.
Xie Jing opened the lunch box to find steamed buns, corn, and millet porridge.
“Wow, so much food.” Xie Jing looked at Qin Ning and asked, “An Ning, did you eat?”
“I did,” Qin Ning said, “You eat.”
“All right, thank you, love you~” Xie Jing winked at Qin Ning.
Qin Ning coughed, “Go wash up and eat while it’s hot.”
“Mhm.” Xie Jing floated into the balcony like the wind.
Ten minutes later, Xie Jing sat at the table, all cleaned up.
“Huh?” Xie Jing picked up an envelope that suddenly appeared on the table and asked Qin Ning, “What’s this?”
“Tit for tat,” Qin Ning said. “It’s a letter I wrote to you.”
“Wow, it’s the first time I’ve gotten such a thick love letter.”
Excited, Xie Jing opened the envelope.
She read it while drinking porridge and unknowingly finished half a bowl.
She sighed, “Wow, Qin Ning, your love letter really makes the meal better.”
Qin Ning: “…”
