Unexpected (GL) - Chapter 30
The doctor gave Xie Jing a glucose injection and inserted another needle into her arm. Before long, her long eyelashes fluttered slightly, then slowly closed again.
“The patient has gone through a series of traumatic experiences. There may be some psychological issues,” the doctor said, turning to Shen Xinghe. “Are you a family member?”
Shen Xinghe shook her head silently.
When Xie Jing woke up again, the first thing she saw was Shen Xinghe’s gaze.
“Xie Jing, you’re awake.” Shen Xinghe pressed the call button. The doctor quickly came in to check Xie Jing’s condition and then left with a serious expression.
Xie Jing lay deep in the hospital bed, her slightly red eyes fixed on Shen Xinghe. “Yesterday…”
“I graduated from Jinghai University and returned to Jiangcheng for work. Yesterday, I happened to hear about your… family’s situation, so I came to the hospital to visit you. I didn’t expect to see
you trying to end your life,” Shen Xinghe said as she held Xie Jing’s hand. Her voice was very serious. “Xie Jing, do you know how precious life is? How could you try to kill yourself?”
Xie Jing wanted to say she knew. Her parents had just passed away—how could she not understand how precious life was? But yesterday, she suddenly saw her mother waving to her from downstairs. When
she was pulled back, she broke out in a cold sweat. She was afraid of death and hated it. But she also wanted to see her mother.
“Xie Jing,” Shen Xinghe scolded, her voice carrying a hint of something strange, “Have you ever thought about the people who care about you? What would they do if you died?”
That’s right. She hadn’t said a proper goodbye to her family and friends. She hadn’t talked things through with Qin Ning. She still had so much to do. She couldn’t die yet.
“Xie Jing, how could you face your parents like this? They raised you with so much love—not so you could commit suicide.”
Shen Xinghe’s face showed deep fear. If she had come a little later yesterday, would Xie Jing have jumped?
“But my parents… they’re gone. And I…” Xie Jing’s dry eyes couldn’t shed a single tear. She lowered her head and muttered, “And now I just found out I have leukemia. I didn’t take the frequent low
fevers, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums seriously before. I thought it was just my body not adjusting to the northern climate. But thinking back now, all the signs were clearly telling me that
something was wrong.”
She paused, then continued, “The doctor said they haven’t found a suitable bone marrow match yet, and my illness has entered the accelerated stage. I might…”
“Xie Jing, if that’s what you’re worried about, I promise you—you’re not going to die. The doctors and I won’t let that happen. You need a bone marrow match? Just wait, I’ll go get my bl00d tested
now!”
Even though Shen Xinghe spoke with such confidence, her preliminary match report showed that only three of the six HLA markers matched with Xie Jing. Her bl00d type wasn’t AB like Xie Jing’s, and
they weren’t related, so a transplant wouldn’t work.
Holding the report, Shen Xinghe’s expression dimmed. “Aside from your parents, do you have any other relatives—”
“I’ve already tried everyone,” Xie Jing interrupted.
Except for a younger aunt who was abroad and couldn’t return for now, everyone else who could be tested had been tested. So far, no match had been found.
After she spoke, Xie Jing quietly lowered her eyes. Her face was extremely pale, so pale it looked bloodless. Shen Xinghe suddenly seemed to think of something and asked, “Does Qin Ning know about
this?”
Xie Jing froze for a second, then slowly shook her head in a daze.
Her phone had been destroyed in the car accident. She and Qin Ning had agreed to sit down and talk a month later, on the day she returned to Jiangcheng. It had already been twenty days since then.
“I don’t want her to know,” Xie Jing said.
Bone marrow transplants come with high risks, but she had no other options. Chemotherapy no longer worked for her. Once the disease entered the critical phase, she would just be lying in bed waiting
to die.
Right now, all she could do was hope they would find a suitable match soon.
But even if they found a match, there was still a high chance of rejection after the transplant. She could die at any time—and it would be a terrible death. Xie Jing didn’t want to say goodbye to
Qin Ning while looking that miserable.
Besides… Qin Ning had now taken over the Fang family business, and Xie Jing’s identity was no longer suitable to stand beside her. Qin Ning needed a partner who could support her, not a childish
student who got jealous and told her not to eat with other women.
“So what do you plan to do?” Shen Xinghe looked at her and asked cautiously, “Do you need my help?”
—
Three days later, Jinghai City.
A pure white car sped along the highway like a sword piercing the darkness. In the back seat, Xie Jing was wrapped in an off-white down jacket, her head leaning gently against the car window as if
she were sound asleep.
Shen Xinghe glanced sideways. From her angle, all she could see was Xie Jing’s extremely pale profile.
A hint of sadness flickered in Shen Xinghe’s eyes. She sighed and silently turned up the heat in the car.
They had arranged to meet Qin Ning at a café near Jinghai University. By the time Xie Jing and Shen Xinghe arrived, Qin Ning was already there waiting for them.
It had been nearly a month since they last saw each other. Qin Ning looked much more tired, but even so, her face was still delicate and beautiful.
“Qin Ning, long time no see.” Shen Xinghe supported Xie Jing with one hand at her lower back and raised the other in a greeting.
Qin Ning: “Long time no see.”
Her gaze paused on Xie Jing and then shifted to the person beside her—Shen Xinghe?
Why was she with Xie Jing?
And why did Xie Jing look so pale, with such red eyes? Had she just cried? It was cold out, and she was wrapped in a thick down jacket. Was she sick again?
“Xie Jing, would you like something to drink?” Shen Xinghe helped her into a seat and took out her phone to place an order.
Xie Jing shook her head, her eyes openly fixed on Qin Ning.
In the end, Shen Xinghe only ordered a coffee for herself.
Qin Ning glanced at her and then slowly said, “I’d like to talk to Xie Jing alone.”
“OK, no problem.” Shen Xinghe nodded, stood up, and went to sit in a corner on the other side of the café.
But her eyes never left Xie Jing and Qin Ning.
“Xie Jing, I saw your photos on Moments. Did you have fun at the beach with your mom and dad?”
In the first few days after Xie Jing left Jiangcheng, she posted a few travel photos every day. Qin Ning relied on those pictures to ease how much she missed her. But unfortunately, Xie Jing
suddenly stopped posting after a while.
“It was fun… How could it not be fun?”
But she wished she had never gone to the beach.
Even though Xie Jing was smiling, Qin Ning clearly saw a trace of tears in her eyes. The tears disappeared quickly, making Qin Ning doubt whether she had seen it right.
“It was much happier than being with you.”
Xie Jing’s lips curled up slightly, but her eyes turned mocking as she looked at Qin Ning.
“At least my parents wouldn’t leave me waiting for five hours.”
Qin Ning froze for a moment, then quickly sat beside Xie Jing in a panic.
“Xie Jing, that time was my fault, but I swear I didn’t mean to.”
Xie Jing lowered her head and gave a bitter smile.
“Qin Ning, do you know what it’s like to lose hope little by little? I was tired and hungry waiting for you in that cold waiting room, but you were out… on a date with someone else.”
Even though Xie Jing’s words were sharp, her hands, where Qin Ning couldn’t see, were tightly clenched and trembling.
“So, Qin Ning, let’s break up.”
“What did you say?” Qin Ning looked at her in disbelief.
“I said, let’s break up.”
Xie Jing took off the ring Qin Ning had given her, placed it on the table in front of her, and gently pushed it toward Qin Ning.
“Breaking up is good for both of us.”
“Why?” Qin Ning grabbed her hand tightly, eyes filled with confusion and pain.
“Why are you suddenly breaking up with me?”
“Because being with you makes me tired. I don’t want to feel this tired anymore. And after all this time, I’m tired of us.”
Xie Jing said it all in one breath and tried to pull her hand back, but Qin Ning was holding on too tightly. Her hand was still caught in Qin Ning’s palm.
“I’m sorry, Xie Jing. I know I ignored your feelings during that time, but I didn’t mean to. I had just taken over the company. There were things at home, work issues, and my grandma was in the ICU.
I had to take care of everything myself. I was overwhelmed. I thought if I just worked harder, I could do everything well and stand beside you as someone more worthy. But I forgot, the reason I
started doing all this… was for you. Now I understand. You mean so much to me.”
She had mixed up her priorities. She had ignored the most important person for things that didn’t really matter. That was her mistake.
But Qin Ning had realized her mistake. She was human—everyone makes mistakes. Xie Jing couldn’t just throw her away over one mistake.
That would be too cruel for Qin Ning.
She was trapped by the things she hated, and the person she chased after had left her.
She couldn’t accept this ending.
“Xie Jing, I’m begging you. Please don’t break up with me. If you have any requests, tell me. I’ll do anything. Just please don’t say those two words again. I’m really… going crazy because of
you.”
Qin Ning suddenly became very emotional and missed the flash of pain that passed over Xie Jing’s face.
Xie Jing turned her head slightly to avoid Qin Ning’s gaze, but instead met Shen Xinghe’s worried eyes.
Qin Ning followed her gaze and was stunned.
“Are you breaking up with me because of Shen Xinghe?”
“If saying yes makes you feel better, then yes. I’ve fallen for someone else… I don’t like you anymore.”
Xie Jing blinked fast. Her eyes were red, but not a single tear came out.
Even when she said something that not even a dog would believe, she didn’t show any emotion.
“I knew it.”
The moment she saw Shen Xinghe earlier, Qin Ning had a bad feeling. It was the same feeling she had back in college, when she saw the two of them walking side by side on the field.
They looked perfect together.
Xie Jing’s original crush was Shen Xinghe.
Enough! Stop thinking about it!
Qin Ning shook her messy thoughts away and forced herself not to remember the past.
“Xie Jing, can’t you give me one more chance?”
She felt like she had shrunk down to nothing. But even so, Xie Jing had no pity for her. All she heard was still those two words—break up.
Xie Jing finally pulled her hand back. There was a flicker of surprise on her face, but she quickly turned and walked out of the café.
When she let go of Xie Jing, Qin Ning felt like a piece of her heart went missing too.
She watched Shen Xinghe rush out after her and suddenly, tears fell from her eyes without warning.
Why was she crying?
Was it because she got dumped?
Or because she regretted not cherishing her?
Qin Ning felt like someone was stabbing her heart over and over.
But even in pain, she hesitated for a moment—then couldn’t help but chase after them.
It was raining lightly. On the busy street, the white figure was already gone.
The cold wind blew past Qin Ning. Slowly, she realized—Xie Jing was really gone.
They broke up.
The whole month of waiting ended in a breakup.
Was this heaven’s punishment?
Punishment for ignoring the one she cared about? Punishment for taking something she shouldn’t have?
Just when Qin Ning felt like the pain would crush her, her phone in her pocket suddenly vibrated.
She was about to hang up, but when she saw the caller ID, she quickly answered.
“Hello?”
“Miss Fang, the patient’s condition isn’t good. Please come to the hospital right away.”
Qin Ning’s mind went blank.
Patient… hospital… did something happen to Grandma?
She hung up and rushed to the hospital. The whole way there, she prayed Grandma would be okay.
She had already suffered too much tonight. The world couldn’t be so cruel to her.
Grandma was her only family left. She didn’t want to hear bad news.
But fate wasn’t kind.
By the time she got to the hospital, Grandma had stopped breathing.
She didn’t even get to see her one last time.
Qin Ning finally collapsed at the bedside, crying bitterly.
Her emotions broke down. Her cries were full of pain.
Even the doctors and nurses around her were moved to tears.
“Miss Fang, please take care of yourself.”

One month later, in Country A.
Shen Xinghe gently held Xie Jing in her arms, keeping her away from the crowd as they slowly walked out of the airport.
“Oh~ Xie Jing, you’re finally here.”
A sexy woman with red lips and big curls greeted them with a big hug.
“Auntie.”
A smile finally appeared on Xie Jing’s pale face.
She leaned closer to her aunt and reached out her thin hand to hold her aunt’s arm.
Shen Xinghe also politely called her “Auntie,” and got another big hug from Ella.
Ella first took them out for a meal, then arranged for Xie Jing to stay at the most famous cancer treatment hospital in the area.
That afternoon, they did a bone marrow match test.
Luckily, two donors matched all six HLA points with Xie Jing.
“Next is the high-resolution test. It’ll work for sure.”
Shen Xinghe comforted her and handed over a report.
“Mm, thank you, Xinghe.”
Whether it was going to Jinghai with her a month ago or traveling abroad now, Xie Jing was very grateful to Shen Xinghe.
“No need to thank me, Xie Jing,” Shen Xinghe said. “It’s my honor to help you.”
When the high-resolution results came out, everyone’s mood turned heavy.
The two donors only matched up to six points.
“It’s okay, don’t we still have Auntie?”
Ella patted Xie Jing’s head and smiled to comfort her.
But when she pulled her hand back, a few strands of Xie Jing’s hair were stuck between her fingers.
Ella froze, hand still in midair.
Seeing this, Shen Xinghe quickly stepped in front of Ella and changed the subject to distract Xie Jing.
“You don’t have to be so careful with me,” Xie Jing said.
“It’s just hair loss. That’s normal during treatment. I already expected it.”
Actually, with this illness, there was more than just hair loss.
The wound on her knee wouldn’t heal. Before she died, she would look very ugly.
She knew all of this. She had already prepared herself.
That’s why she broke up with Qin Ning.
She wanted to leave Qin Ning with the best image of her, not one with all her hair gone and a swollen body…
“Xie Jing, get some rest. Auntie will go draw bl00d now. I’ll be a match for sure.”
After saying that, Ella quickly covered her face and ran out.
Shen Xinghe had never seen her so upset.
In her memory, Ella was always cheerful and positive.
But when she saw that hair in her hand, she clearly panicked.
Ella’s initial results showed a full match—six HLA points.
This news finally gave them hope.
Even Xie Jing, who had been disappointed so many times and almost gave up, looked surprised.
Ella let out a long sigh of relief and gave Xie Jing a reassuring look.
This hospital was one of the best in the world for cancer treatment.
Her little niece was going to be okay.
