Unexpected (GL) - Chapter 35
Xie Jing moved a little but couldn’t get up. Her sleeping posture was too strange, and half her body was numb and weak. She pulled her hand back and carefully slid out of Qin Ning’s arms, moving a bit away. Qin Ning seemed to be sleeping soundly, her face in the shadows still looked cold and beautiful. Her features were delicate, her brows relaxed, and her lips slightly pursed. She looked more lively than yesterday.
Xie Jing stared at her for a while before regaining some strength. She lifted the blanket and was about to get up, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed. Her whole body fell back into the warm bed. A
warm body pressed against her from behind, and Qin Ning’s arm wrapped around her waist. Hot breath fell on the side of her neck.
Xie Jing felt something soft and wet touch the back of her neck.
Her mind went blank.
Was Qin Ning awake?
Was she kissing her?
The room was silent, only their breathing could be heard. Xie Jing slowly moved her hand to her waist and tried to pry Qin Ning’s hand off, but it was holding on tightly. She tried to use more
force, but Qin Ning suddenly grabbed her wrist, interlaced their fingers, and held her even tighter.
“Sleep a bit longer,” Qin Ning’s pleasant voice sounded beside her ear, her warm breath brushing against Xie Jing’s ear.
Xie Jing shivered uncontrollably. Half her body tensed up.
“But I have… a flight today…”
“Don’t go.” Qin Ning’s voice was low and gentle, not at all like her usual self.
Xie Jing couldn’t help but wonder if she was still dreaming. She couldn’t move, so she had no choice but to stay in the familiar arms and slowly drifted back to sleep.
When she woke again, it was already bright outside.
Qin Ning was no longer behind her. Xie Jing lifted the blanket and got out of bed. The bathroom had unopened toiletries. After brushing her teeth, she walked out and realized—she had slept in the
master bedroom last night.
There was no one in the living room. Xie Jing walked to the kitchen and saw a busy figure inside.
Qin Ning came out holding a bowl of congee.
She placed it on the kitchen island and said to Xie Jing, “Come over.”
It was century egg and lean pork congee—thick and fragrant. It looked delicious. Xie Jing didn’t hold back and started eating with small bites.
Qin Ning brought out a plate of shrimp dumplings and a dish of custard buns, placing them in front of her.
“…I can’t eat that much,” Xie Jing said awkwardly.
“You’re too skinny.” Qin Ning originally wanted to ask if she hadn’t been eating well these past two years, but in the end, she didn’t.
“Yeah, I’ve been sick a few times,” Xie Jing said. Hospital stays, IV drips, and little appetite naturally made her thinner.
“Didn’t you go abroad with Shen Xinghe?” Qin Ning’s tone implied: Didn’t she take care of you?
Xie Jing understood but didn’t answer right away. Before going abroad, she had purposely posted a picture of her plane ticket to her Moments for Qin Ning to see.
From Qin Ning’s point of view, it looked like Xie Jing had ruthlessly left her and gone overseas to enjoy a sweet life with Shen Xinghe.
She had no idea that during that time abroad, Xie Jing had hovered at the edge of life and death more than once.
So when she saw Xie Jing looking so worn out two years later, Qin Ning naturally thought Shen Xinghe didn’t take care of her.
Xie Jing felt a little guilty and couldn’t help but defend Shen Xinghe:
“Actually, she did her best. I’m really grateful for her help these past two years.”
Qin Ning didn’t expect Xie Jing to say all this so openly and clearly show she was defending Shen Xinghe.
Hearing that, a nameless anger rose in her chest.
“Xie Jing, if she really loved you that much, how could she let you suffer so much alone in Jinghai?”
Xie Jing froze. “Huh?”
Qin Ning said, “Break up with her!”
“…”
Xie Jing fell silent, not sure whether to laugh or cry.
She and Shen Xinghe were never even together.
What was there to break up?
But she couldn’t explain it, so she just said helplessly, “I’m single now.”
Qin Ning didn’t look surprised. “I know.”
“…?” Xie Jing looked at her in shock. “If you knew, why did you still ask me to break up??”
“Just wanted to confirm.”
“Oh.” Xie Jing nodded and then asked, “So how did you know?”
Qin Ning replied, “You didn’t look like someone with a partner yesterday.”
What look?
Xie Jing thought back but didn’t think anything was off.
Qin Ning calmly put a piece of corn on her plate. “Eat more.”
Xie Jing took one corn kernel symbolically, then pushed the rest into Qin Ning’s bowl. “I’m full.”
After breakfast, Xie Jing was on the sofa replying to Shen Xinghe’s messages when Qin Ning suddenly tossed a contract in front of her.
Xie Jing put down her phone and read it line by line, her expression turning more shocked the more she read.
Qin Ning promised to inject capital into the Xie family business every year, and her condition was—
To marry her!
Xie Jing was confused. “Is this money… bride price?”
Qin Ning raised an eyebrow. “Have you ever seen such a big bride price?”
“No, I guess not,” Xie Jing muttered.
Ten billion a year? Who would be that generous?
But still…
“I can’t sign this,” Xie Jing said.
Qin Ning’s face instantly turned cold, her eyes filled with confusion. “Don’t you need money?”
“I do,” Xie Jing said with a smile, “but I don’t really want to tie myself to you through a deal.”
Qin Ning said bluntly, “Twenty billion!”
“…Well, thinking about it seriously, a deal isn’t so bad. You’re so good-looking, I won’t lose out.”
Right after saying that, Xie Jing quickly signed her name like she was afraid Qin Ning might change her mind.
She then pulled out her phone. Qin Ning narrowed her eyes at her. “What are you doing?”
“Canceling my flight!”
“…”
Qin Ning opened the page listing the obligations after marriage and showed it to Xie Jing.
[Marriage Agreement, Clause 3, Section 4: Party B must fulfill wifely duties at least three times a week.]
*[Clause 5, Section 2: Party B must meet all of Party A’s needs.]
[Clause 10, Section 1: Party B must refer to Party A as wife, honey, darling, or lover.]
[Clause 11, Section 1: All rights of interpretation belong to Party A.]
Xie Jing looked up, shocked. “What are those censored words? Don’t tell me I have to call you something like… mommy?”
Just the thought made her scalp tingle with embarrassment. How could she say something like that out loud?
Qin Ning gave her a meaningful look. “You’ll find out later.”
Xie Jing: “???”
Was Qin Ning driven crazy from being single for two years? She wasn’t this perverted back in school!
Xie Jing suddenly felt a little regretful.
Qin Ning seemed to sense this. Before Xie Jing could react, she boldly signed her own name in big, flamboyant characters.
The contract was now official.
Qin Ning said, “Go change your clothes.”
Xie Jing: “Are we going out?”
Qin Ning: “To get our marriage certificate.”
“So fast??”
Xie Jing was shocked. Was Qin Ning always this efficient?
“Mm.” Qin Ning glanced at her watch and smiled ever so slightly.
Xie Jing changed into the outfit she wore yesterday, which had already been washed and dried.
Qin Ning was waiting in the living room, holding an ID card in one hand and a diamond ring in the other.
Xie Jing recognized the ring. Qin Ning had given it to her before.
She had returned it after their breakup.
Two years later, the ring was back in her hands.
Since it wasn’t a special date, there was no line at the registry office.
They leaned close for the marriage photo, both smiling naturally, as if they hadn’t been apart for two years, with no misunderstandings or arguments between them.
After getting the certificate, Qin Ning took her out for a big meal.
Even on the way home, Xie Jing still felt like she was in a dream.
How had she ended up marrying Qin Ning like this?
It was too shocking!
She still felt it wasn’t real.
As she dazed off, something cold touched her face.
Qin Ning pressed the back of her finger to her cheek. “What are you daydreaming about? We’re home.”
“Oh…” Xie Jing flinched and reached for her seatbelt. But before she could move, Qin Ning had already trapped her in the seat.
Qin Ning leaned over from the driver’s seat, pulled her into her arms, and buried her face in Xie Jing’s shoulder, inhaling deeply.
The scent of lemon filled her nose, and she squinted in satisfaction.
Realizing Xie Jing now smelled like her, Qin Ning couldn’t hold back her excitement. Her heart trembled slightly.
“Qin—mm…”
Before Xie Jing could say her name, her lips were sealed.
Qin Ning tilted her head and kissed her.
Xie Jing was wearing a white shirt today. Qin Ning unbuttoned two buttons and slid her hand in, gently tracing her collarbone.
“What should you call me now that we’re married?” she asked.
Xie Jing: “…”
She stayed silent and closed her eyes, pretending to be dead.
Seeing her eyelashes trembling, Qin Ning chuckled, then slipped her tongue into Xie Jing’s mouth, sucking on her obedient little tongue.
It seemed she wouldn’t stop until Xie Jing said those words.
No matter how Xie Jing tried to dodge, Qin Ning refused to let go.
Qin Ning asked, “What am I to you?”
Xie Jing cautiously replied, “W-Wife?”
“And what should you call me?”
“…Honey!”
“Mm, what else?”
Xie Jing was already dizzy from the kiss. Her mind was blank. “I… I don’t know.”
Qin Ning brushed her lips against Xie Jing’s earlobe. “Really don’t know?”
Half her body went weak, but she still stubbornly pressed her lips together and said nothing.
“So naughty.”
With a click, Qin Ning unbuckled her seatbelt and scooped her up.
Xie Jing was light as a feather. Qin Ning easily carried her upstairs, kicked the door open, and tossed her on the soft bed.
She propped herself up on both sides of Xie Jing’s head, looked down at her seriously, and said,
“We’ve signed the contract.”
Xie Jing raised her chin. “So what?”
“You have to follow every clause.”
Xie Jing let out a defiant snort.
Qin Ning continued, “Tonight is our wedding night. After tonight, you’ll be my real wife.”
Hearing that, Xie Jing immediately let go of Qin Ning’s neck and pulled the blanket over her face.
Still, Qin Ning saw her flushed cheeks.
“Xie Jing.”
Qin Ning pulled the blanket away, gently bit Xie Jing’s lower lip, and her hand slipped under her shirt to her waist.
“Yesterday in the office, you clearly said that even if I wanted to get back together, you wouldn’t agree.”
Xie Jing held her wrist through her clothes. “So you admit it.”
Qin Ning’s expression didn’t change. “I was angry. I didn’t mean it.”
Xie Jing: “Then what do you really mean?”
“I was wrong.”
“I love you.”
Xie Jing let out a soft hum and released her hand.
