Unexpected (GL) - Chapter 37
“Damn, I didn’t expect you to be into girls too!!” Chen Yunqing stared at Xie Jing in shock. “Are there really that many lesbians in this world?”
Just a couple of years ago, when same-s3x marriage was still not legal in Country C, being a lesbian would get you mocked and looked down on everywhere. Chen Yunqing had only started openly telling
people she was gay in the past two years after the law changed.
Xie Jing blurted out, “I’m not. I’m straight, haha.”
Chen Yunqing’s eyes widened instantly. “Then how did you end up with President Fang?”
President Fang didn’t seem like a pervert or anything.
Xie Jing said, “She forced her love on me!”
Chen Yunqing and Chen Qianqian: “???”
There was no way President Fang was that kind of person! But looking at Xie Jing’s weak and fragile appearance, Chen Yunqing started to waver a little. She really did look like a delicate little
canary kept in a cage.
“Don’t believe me? Look.” Xie Jing pulled up her sleeve, revealing faint kiss marks on her pale wrist, and said firmly, “This is proof!”
Now not only Chen Yunqing, but even Chen Qianqian was stunned.
President Fang looked so proper on the outside, but privately she was actually a lunatic?
“So, you’d better like someone else instead.” Xie Jing looked Chen Yunqing up and down and came to a conclusion. “She’s not right for you.”
At that moment, both Chen Yunqing and her cousin felt like they were struck by lightning. They couldn’t help but imagine a dramatic story: unrequited love, mutual chasing and escaping, a beautiful
wife running away with a child only to be caught by a crazy boss lady and locked in a dark room… and so on.
After imagining it all, Chen Yunqing shivered hard. “Damn, that’s terrifying.”
What white moonlight*!? This wasn’t white moonlight literature—it was about forced love and personality switches! That’s messed up!
[*Note: “White moonlight” refers to an idealized, pure love interest in Chinese romance fiction.]
Chen Yunqing had originally thought that since President Fang was rich, polite, and a woman, things would be simple after marriage. No cheating, no abuse, no emotional neglect, no smoking, drinking,
or gambling.
But now it seemed like maybe it was because she suppressed herself so much in daily life that she acted so wild in private.
Chen Yunqing just wanted to climb the social ladder, not get tied up in some twisted love story!
Besides, Xie Jing was already back in the country—was there still a share of the family fortune for her?
She instantly backed off the idea.
So this “white moonlight” position wasn’t for just anyone.
No wonder Xie Jing had run off abroad for two years. Too bad she still got caught and brought back.
Chen Yunqing rubbed her chin and said guiltily, “I’ve thought about it. I think I’ve suddenly lost all interest in President Fang. Cousin, why don’t you introduce me to another rich and pretty girl?
I think that Gu from Qingfeng Group seems nice. And her doctor friend is okay too.”
Chen Qianqian sighed and rubbed her forehead. “Give up. President Gu already has someone. She’s famous for spoiling her wife. As for that doctor, I’m not so sure.”
Xie Jing, who had been quietly eating melon seeds, suddenly looked up and chimed in, “…Dr. Lin has someone too~”
“What is going on!?” Chen Yunqing was nearly going crazy. “Why is it a trend now for beautiful women to pair up with other beautiful women? Has the world completely flipped?”
So when was she going to get a wife?
Chen Qianqian gave her a side-eye and said, “Do you like soft, pretty, gentle women?”
Chen Yunqing nodded honestly. “Yes, I love them.”
Chen Qianqian said, “Well, there you go. It’s human nature. Not just men like them—women do too.”
“Don’t do to others what you wouldn’t want for yourself. It goes both ways.”
“I’m telling you, most women aren’t blind or dumb. Aside from those who are strictly heterosexual, the rest can definitely tell whether they’d be happier marrying a man or a woman.”
“People live for themselves.”
“If you want to do something, go for it. After all, we only get one life.”
“Besides, it’s not like you can’t legally get married anymore. What are you afraid of?”
“…”
Chen Yunqing: “You’re right.”
What her cousin said made so much sense—it felt like her mind suddenly cleared up.
But the competition was huge. She’d have to fight men for a wife, and now even fight women too.
Chen Yunqing looked at Xie Jing with a flicker of sympathy in her eyes.
Even a straight girl couldn’t escape being force-loved by a lesbian…
Xie Jing, noticing her sympathetic gaze: “?”
Chen Yunqing suddenly clenched her fists and said determinedly, “Don’t worry, Xie Jing. When I finally get myself a wife, I’ll come back and rescue you from the fire.”
“Thanks. That’s sweet of you,” Xie Jing replied. “But no need. I think I have a bit of Stockholm Syndrome, haha.”
Chen Yunqing, Chen Qianqian: “…”
No wonder those two were a match.
Two weirdos!

At the same time, at the Fang family villa—
Qin Ning set down her wine glass and took Little Guai from a maid, slowly walking up the stairs.
Inside Qin Ning’s bedroom on the second floor, the moment she entered the room, the first thing she saw was a bouquet of colorful roses.
From afar, it looked lifelike, but up close, you could clearly see the texture of sponge paper.
It was the same bouquet Xie Jing had given her back in college.
They had promised to adopt Little Guai together after graduation. After Xie Jing went abroad, Qin Ning fulfilled that wish alone.
But after starting work, she got used to living alone. Sometimes she worked late and was afraid she wouldn’t take good care of Little Guai, so she left the cat at the Fang family’s old house in the
care of the maids.
Qin Ning first washed her face to get rid of the smell of alcohol, then changed into casual clothes and headed downstairs.
But before she could go find Xie Jing, a few maids suddenly rushed into the hall.
“Something’s wrong.”
“There’s been an accident.”
“Someone passed out.”
Qin Ning’s expression changed. She strode toward the maid. “What happened?”
The maid stammered in panic, “Miss Fang… someone threw up bl00d and fainted.”
Qin Ning barked, “Show me!”
The moment she stepped into the garden, she saw a crowd gathered in a circle.
She scanned the crowd but didn’t see Xie Jing.
Qin Ning pushed her way through the people and rushed into the center.
She would never forget what she saw next.
On the white tile floor, Xie Jing lay in a pool of bl00d. Her pale blue dress was covered in bl00d stains. Her hair was a mess, and her face had no color.
Boom. Qin Ning’s mind went completely blank.
“Call an ambulance!”
Her shout snapped everyone back to reality.
“Xie Jing!”
Qin Ning dropped to her knees in the bl00d and pulled Xie Jing into her arms. She checked her neck for a pulse.
“Xie Jing, can you hear me?”
“Don’t be scared.”
“Everyone move back!”
“Don’t crowd around here!”
“Let the air flow!”
Qin Ning laid Xie Jing flat on the ground, turned her head to the side, cleared the bl00d from her mouth, and started CPR.
Luckily, someone had already called 120, and the ambulance arrived quickly.
“Save the surveillance footage,” Qin Ning said before following the ambulance to the hospital.

“Liver GVHD, chronic. Esophageal and gastric varices rupture, plus allergies, gastrointestinal bleeding. She’s in shock.”
“Bl00d type changed after bone marrow transplant. Prepare type A bl00d.”
“Bone marrow transplant?”
Qin Ning froze at those words.
When did Xie Jing get a bone marrow transplant?
“Are you a family member?” the doctor asked, handing over a critical condition notice. “Please sign here.”
Qin Ning glanced at it. Her face darkened, and her hand trembled as she signed.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Shen Xinghe calling.
“I called Xie Jing’s phone earlier, but someone else answered. They said you took her to the hospital. How is she?”
Shen Xinghe had originally just wanted to ask when Xie Jing would return to Jiangcheng. But her phone couldn’t be reached for a long time. When someone finally answered, it was a stranger named Chen
Yunqing.
“Shen Xinghe, what the hell have you been hiding from me about Xie Jing!?” Qin Ning’s voice was full of rage.
Shen Xinghe’s heart sank. “What happened to Xie Jing?”
This was the first time she’d ever heard Qin Ning curse. How serious was it for her to get this angry?
Shen Xinghe panicked like an ant on a hot pan, wishing she could fly to Jinghai immediately.
Qin Ning gritted her teeth and said word by word, “She’s in the emergency room right now. If you don’t want her to die, you’d better tell me everything.”
“I will, I will. I’ll tell you everything.”
At this point, Shen Xinghe knew she couldn’t hide it anymore. She told Qin Ning everything about Xie Jing’s condition and even sent over her medical records from Country A.
She didn’t hide the fact that she and Xie Jing had never actually been together either.
“During graduate school, Xie Jing was under a lot of pressure. I don’t know if she ever told you.”
“She got thinner and thinner. Her mom noticed and forced her to take a leave of absence. Then Xie Jing went back to Jiangcheng with her.”
“Her parents wanted to cheer her up, so they took her on a trip.”
“Unfortunately, they got into a car accident on the way back. Xie Jing was in the back seat and saw her dad die right in front of her. Then at the hospital, she found out her mom didn’t make it
either. From that day on, she wasn’t the same.”
“A happy family of three turned into just her overnight. She couldn’t handle it.”
“When I heard about it from the elders, I went to the hospital. I found her climbing onto the balcony in a daze. I was so scared my heart almost stopped. I pulled her back down, and the doctor said
she probably had psychological issues.”
“I stayed at the hospital with her for a while. Later the doctor said she had leukemia. If they couldn’t find a match for a bone marrow transplant, she could die at any time.”
“She didn’t want to burden you, so she broke up with you and went abroad for treatment.”
Shen Xinghe’s voice choked as she continued. “That time… her condition was really bad. The doctors said her chances of recovery were slim. While she was in the sterile ward for more than half a
month, she only got through it… by holding onto your photo.”
Qin Ning: “Why are you only telling me this now? I’ve hated her for two whole years… Why didn’t you say something earlier?”
Shen Xinghe: “Because she never thought she’d survive! She left the country expecting to die. Telling you would’ve just made one more person sad.”
“You were the one she most wanted to hide this from.”
“If she had died abroad, she would’ve taken this secret with her. You never would’ve known she had lied to you.”
“But she survived. That’s the only reason you even got to see her today.”
“I’ve said everything I can. Qin Ning… aside from saying sorry, I don’t know what else to say.”
With that, Shen Xinghe hung up.
Qin Ning sat on a bench, reading Shen Xinghe’s messages one by one. Her heart sank like a rock to the bottom of the sea. Her hands trembled as she opened a photo.
It was taken by accident on Xie Jing’s seventh day in the sterile ward.
She was sitting on a hospital bed, her face pale and lips colorless. Her cheeks were sunken from how thin she was.
Back then, her body was so weak that anything she ate would come back out through her nose and mouth within a minute. She vomited until even her bile was gone before she could stop.
Qin Ning’s eyes were bloodshot. She touched that bony face on the screen and burst into tears.
The emergency room light stayed on all night.
Qin Ning didn’t sleep at all. She stared at that door the whole time.
She thought of a hundred different outcomes. If Xie Jing made it out safe, she would quit her job and take care of her every day.
If not…
Then she’d go with her.
No matter where, they’d never be apart again.
