Unexpected (GL) - Chapter 39
Xie Jing returned to Jiangcheng again because Shen Xinghe and her aunt were getting married. But during this time, Qin Ning was really busy—so busy she couldn’t get away at all. Xie Jing had planned to fly back to Jiangcheng alone to help her aunt prepare for the wedding, but Qin Ning strongly disagreed. No matter how sweetly or gently Xie Jing tried to convince her, Qin Ning just kept a stern face and absolutely refused to let her go alone.
Xie Jing asked, “Why not?”
Qin Ning replied, “Because I said no.”
Xie Jing talked until her throat was dry and her lips almost blistered. “Why exactly not?”
Qin Ning simply said, “No reason.”
Xie Jing stared at Qin Ning’s stubborn face, feeling very confused. In her memory, Qin Ning had never refused her so firmly before.
“What’s really going on?” Xie Jing asked, patiently holding Qin Ning’s hand.
Without saying a word, Qin Ning grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a tight hug, burying her face in Xie Jing’s shoulder.
They hugged for a while before Xie Jing suddenly had a realization. “Do you have PTSD… from when I left you and went back to Jiangcheng?”
Qin Ning was silent for a moment, then gently nodded. “Yeah.”
Her voice was muffled, and her shoulders were tense, as if she was extremely anxious.
“Don’t go.”
The last time Xie Jing secretly went back to Jiangcheng, they ended up being apart for two whole years. During those years, Qin Ning lived in misery every single day. But later, she found out that
Xie Jing had suffered even more than she did—almost like living in hell.
After such a painful experience, how could she ever feel at ease letting Xie Jing go alone again?
When Xie Jing heard this, she felt so guilty she nearly knelt down to apologize. “I’m sorry, Qin Ning. I was wrong. I’ll never lie to you again.”
She never expected that a single lie from two years ago could leave such a deep scar on Qin Ning. It was truly a sin.
Qin Ning relaxed her shoulders and hugged Xie Jing tightly, gently stroking her back through her clothes.
“Promise me—don’t ever push me away again, no matter what.”
Xie Jing nodded like crazy in her arms, almost ready to swear to the heavens.
When they finally returned to Jiangcheng, it was already the wedding day.
Watching her aunt and Shen Xinghe walk hand in hand down the red carpet in their white wedding dresses, Xie Jing was so touched her eyes nearly filled with tears.
Qin Ning was watching her closely the whole time. When she noticed her eyelashes were slightly wet, she leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Xiao Jing, if you want, we can have a wedding too.”
“Huh?” Xie Jing looked at her with teary eyes. “But we already got our marriage certificate a long time ago!”
“So what?” Qin Ning replied. “If you want, we can get married every year.”
Previously, Qin Ning had accidentally ended up registering for marriage with Xie Jing—it was the right thing at the wrong time. But now that all the misunderstandings were cleared up, she had never
properly proposed to her.
At first, Xie Jing thought there was no need to go through the trouble of planning a wedding. But then she remembered—Qin Ning had never worn a wedding dress in her life. It felt like such a pity.
She thought, Qin Ning deserves a grand wedding.
Because no matter how long they’d been legally married, Qin Ning’s love for her was as passionate as newlyweds. And just now, she had clearly seen a look of longing and hope in Qin Ning’s eyes.
“Okay!” Xie Jing smiled at Qin Ning. “Let’s get married. But that means everyone will know you’re mine. People will start calling you Mrs. Xie, Xie Jing’s wife, Xie Jing’s lover.”
“That would be my honor.”
“Married or not, I belong only to you,” Qin Ning said.
Then she went to catch the bouquet. With everyone watching, she walked step by step toward Xie Jing.
In Xie Jing’s eyes, the Qin Ning in front of her gradually overlapped with the young face she remembered. It felt like she was back on the college track field again, when eighteen-year-old Xie Jing
asked Qin Ning how far a school romance could go.
Qin Ning said, As long as you want, we can be together forever.
A lifetime is long. Whether it was freshman-year Xie Jing or the one standing here now, she wanted to spend every day with Qin Ning.
After the wedding, Pei Anle found a pavilion and called Qin Ning over for a private chat.
Watching their happy silhouettes, Xie Jing casually said to Shen Xinghe, “Your wife isn’t getting advice from Qin Ning, is she?”
Shen Xinghe looked confused. “Advice about what?”
Xie Jing gave her a sideways glance and said lightly, “It’s your wedding night and she’s off talking to a married woman alone—what advice could she be getting?”
Shen Xinghe’s face turned red. She opened her mouth like she wanted to argue, but then noticed the teasing look in Xie Jing’s eyes and suddenly realized she was being messed with.
Seeing her blushing face, Xie Jing couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Wow, I didn’t expect my aunt to like younger women. But younger ones are great—full of energy. Don’t be fooled by how fierce my
aunt is outside. At home, she’s lazy by nature. She’s clearly meant to lie down and be the passive one.”
Shen Xinghe looked at her in shock. “How… did you know… I was the…?”
Xie Jing crossed her arms and glanced at her. “My aunt’s long fancy nails look like they’re made for playing a demon queen. And look at you. Isn’t it obvious?”
Shen Xinghe: “…”
No wonder she’s a true lesbian—she really is different from someone like me who bent halfway through.
So sharp.
“Why are they talking for so long?” Xie Jing looked toward Qin Ning’s direction and whispered, “Are they going to let anyone consummate their marriage or not?”
She said, “Should I go rush them?”
Shen Xinghe’s face turned even redder. “No… no need.”
“Don’t be so shy. It’s obvious my aunt really likes you. You two are made for each other. I’m sure you’ll be together for the rest of your lives.”
That was her sincere blessing to Shen Xinghe.
Shen Xinghe also said honestly, “Thank you. Same to you and Qin Ning.”
Xie Jing smiled, “Haha, I’ll take your good wishes.”
Xie Jing drank two whole pots of tea before her aunt finally let Qin Ning return.
Shen Xinghe, blushing, took a deep breath, said goodbye to Xie Jing, and walked toward Pei Anle.
“What did my aunt say to you?”
As soon as Qin Ning came back, Xie Jing grabbed her hand and clung to her.
“She told me a lot of funny stories from when you were a kid.”
Qin Ning held Xie Jing’s waist and helped her sit down. “She said you used to be very afraid of the dark and thunder. When your parents weren’t home, you’d cry and crawl into her bed, begging to
sleep with her.”
Xie Jing didn’t expect her aunt to tell Qin Ning those things. She felt a bit embarrassed and buried her face in her arms.
“That was so long ago. I’m not afraid of thunder anymore.”
Pei Anle had told Qin Ning a lot—small things like how Xie Jing didn’t like cilantro, and big things like everything she went through in Country A.
Auntie also said, from now on, she would leave Xiao Jing in Qin Ning’s care, and asked her not to let Xiao Jing down.
Qin Ning said, “Even if you’re not afraid anymore, I’ll still protect you.”
“Great. Then, when it’s raining and thundering, I’ll crawl into your arms and hold you tight. We’ll stay in bed together, lying there and watching the rain fall outside the window.”
Xie Jing smiled and continued, “Just thinking about it makes me look forward to rainy days.”
Qin Ning replied, “Even if it’s not raining, you can still do that.”
Wouldn’t that make her some sort of seductive troublemaker?
That night, they boarded a plane to Jinghai City.
As the plane took off, Xie Jing instinctively gripped Qin Ning’s fingers tightly. She didn’t let go until the flight stabilized.
But just as she was about to pull her hand back, Qin Ning held it tightly again, their fingers interlocked.
“Take a nap. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
“Okay.”
Xie Jing had been tired all day. She fell asleep soon after closing her eyes.
When she opened them again, the plane was already descending.
Once the cabin door opened, Qin Ning helped her off the plane and into a car that had been waiting outside.
Xie Jing had slept the whole way and only started to wake up once they got home.
“We’re home already…” she mumbled, then collapsed onto the bed, her thoughts slowly returning.
Qin Ning finished unpacking, wiped her hands, and walked to the bed. She held Xie Jing’s chin and kissed her deeply.
After an entire day of holding back, now that they were finally home, Qin Ning kissed her with urgency.
Her fingertips were cold, but they felt like fire, burning every place they touched.
When her hand reached a certain spot, Xie Jing trembled and let out a low moan.
Qin Ning suddenly paused, raised her head, and looked at her.
“Tired?”
Xie Jing shook her head, her breathing fast and messy.
Qin Ning smiled and leaned down again, gently licking and kissing Xie Jing’s lips.
While Xie Jing was dazed, she hooked her tongue.
“Mm.”
Xie Jing’s hand flew to Qin Ning’s shoulder, grabbing her shirt and wrinkling the fabric with her tight grip.
The hand on her waist was hot against her skin.
Xie Jing’s eyelashes fluttered, her chest rising and falling.
Qin Ning pressed her lips again, soft and slow.
Then, just as Xie Jing let out a contented moan, Qin Ning’s tongue slipped into her mouth.
“Qin… mm—”
Before she could finish, she was interrupted.
Dizzy, Xie Jing pushed Qin Ning’s shoulder, but the naughty hand was already caught and pinned down.
Qin Ning pulled her lips back slightly and whispered,
“You forgot again.”
Forgot what?
Xie Jing’s mind was a mess.
She could only let Qin Ning hold her jaw and open her mouth, letting her kiss even deeper.
“You forgot what to call me.”
“I… I was wrong.”
“Please let me go.”
“Big sister…”
Only then did a smile finally appear on Qin Ning’s icy face.
But her words were still cold and firm:
“Too late.”
She took off her shirt, tied up both of Xie Jing’s hands, and raised them above her head.
Then she lowered her head to kiss her earlobe.
Xie Jing tried to dodge, but by turning her head, she only exposed the whole pale side of her neck.
Qin Ning’s eyes darkened. She held her tightly, kissing down from behind her ear, along her neck and collarbone.
Boom—
Rain suddenly started pouring outside the window.
A flash of lightning lit up the entire room.
Qin Ning looked out and said softly,
“That wish came true so fast.”
The wish to lie in bed together and watch the rain.
They held each other tightly through the thunder until they finally fell asleep after the rain stopped.
The rain-washed sky was a deep clean blue.
A few birds circled and danced under the clear sky—
Just like the fresh and lively future they were heading into.
