Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 10
Mo Ying wanted to see the golden bud more clearly. She stood before the mirror, lifted her clothes, and revealed her soft, pale belly. Yet the mirror reflected nothing unusual.
She looked down, twisting left and right, baring her lower back and even the insides of her legs. Still, she found no trace of the strange bud. “Eh, where did it go?”
When she returned to play in the bathtub, the vanished bud appeared again on her abdomen. It seemed to be playing hide-and-seek with her. Each time she stood up and left the water, it disappeared again. After repeating this several times, Mo Ying finally understood. She sprawled lazily in the water, watching golden threads slowly sketch a flower the size of a small fist on her belly. Her tail flicked lightly as the little flower refused to unfold its petals, bashfully curling tight. Mo Ying stared at it for a long time but still could not make out what flower it was. She muttered, “Why do I keep growing such strange things?”
First, two names had appeared on the scales behind her neck. Now, her abdomen had sprouted an unopened flower.
Could it be because she thought Ni Xinyu’s flower tattoo was beautiful, so now she had one too? Although hers had yet to bloom, the golden flower looked far more beautiful than Ni Xinyu’s.
Satisfied, Mo Ying drifted to sleep. When she woke, she heard a loud clattering from downstairs. Following the spiral staircase, she slid all the way down. At the bottom, she nearly collided head-on with a girl wearing thick black-rimmed glasses, who was carrying a tray with both hands.
They met on the narrow staircase, about to crash into one another. Startled, the girl cried out in fear. Mo Ying reacted instinctively, gripping the railing as she twisted into a full three-hundred-sixty-five-degree spin, soaring over the girl and landing steadily on the floor.
Clap clap clap clap.
Wow—
Ni Xinyu, who had brought two assistants early that morning, had just witnessed her singer performing an acrobatic stunt. Surprise nearly turned to fright. “Sweetheart, if you do not become a martial arts stunt performer, it will be the entertainment industry’s greatest loss.”
Mo Ying’s heart was still racing. Dry land was not like the water. In the sea, a failed roll would at worst leave her dizzy. But here on land, there were sharp corners everywhere, and one fall could be painful. Luckily, she was safe. She asked curiously, “What is a stunt performer?”
Ni Xinyu grabbed that overly innocent face with both hands and kneaded it red like dough before letting go. “Alright, let me introduce you. These two will be your assistants from now on. Xiao Qiu will help you with daily life, while Xiao Ai will manage everything related to work. You do not need to worry about anything. Just sing.”
Xiao Qiu was the girl who had just been carrying breakfast. She had intended to bring it up for Mo Ying. After this dramatic first meeting, she shyly pushed her heavy frames up her nose. “Miss Mo, please take care of me from now on.”
As for Xiao Ai, after witnessing Mo Ying’s dazzling agility, she was utterly smitten. “You… you are the little mermaid from the livestream room, aren’t you? Ahhh, I cannot believe it is really you. I am so happy.”
Mo Ying’s eyes widened in excitement. “You are my fan?”
The familiar style, the familiar tone.
Ni Xinyu rubbed her forehead, watching her silly singer bonding affectionately with her fan. She grabbed a pillow and collapsed onto the sofa. She had not slept for several nights in order to capture this salted fish. With Mo Ying’s chirping voice filling her ears like a sparrow, she soon tilted her head and fell fast asleep.
Xiao Qiu, seeing this, quietly pulled a thin blanket from the suitcase and draped it over her, then went back to tidying the villa.
…
“Ah, ah, Xiao Qiu, hurry and drive to the hospital.”
“Oh, oh, oh.”
Ni Xinyu was jolted awake by the chaos. She opened her eyes to see her singer’s flawless skin covered in red spots. Shocked, she jumped up. “What happened!”
Xiao Ai was on the verge of tears. Since the little mermaid always wore the same clothes, she had asked her to try on new sponsor outfits. She never imagined this would happen, whether from fabric allergies or skin too delicate. “She tried on a few sets of clothes.”
Ni Xinyu glared at them. “I told you to take good care of her. On the very first day, this is what happens. If that lunatic Lou Anran finds out her little lover has been treated like this, what then? Hurry, get the car, go to the hospital.”
The moment Mo Ying heard the word hospital, she bolted upstairs. “No, no, I am not going.”
All three tried persuading her, but she remained immovable. Her conviction against hospitals was unshakable. Ni Xinyu was furious, hands on her waist as she panted. “You two, catch her for me.”
What followed was a scene of chasing cats through the villa. Despite their efforts, they could not catch her. Even Xiao Qiu, the most athletic of the three, was exhausted. “President Ni, the little mermaid runs so fast, like the wind itself. We cannot catch her.”
Ni Xinyu nearly wanted to spank the child. The singers she had managed before always obeyed her word. She had never encountered such a mischievous little brat.
Just as she was about to resort to drastic measures, a small head peeked down from upstairs. Mo Ying beamed sweetly, entirely unaware of the seriousness.
Ni Xinyu straightened, planted her hands on her hips, and beckoned. “Sweetheart, we will not go to the hospital. Come here. Sister will take you to the food street.”
Mo Ying believed her instantly. The moment she heard food, she slid down the railing. As soon as she landed, the three pounced together. One locked her waist, another held her legs.
Mo Ying realized she had been tricked. Nearly in tears, she cried, “Let me go, or I will be very angry!”
Her childish protest made Ni Xinyu laugh in exasperation. “Look at yourself. Wait, the spots… they are fading?”
Xiao Qiu and Xiao Ai gasped. After checking carefully, they found the red spots had truly disappeared, even though only moments earlier the rash had been severe everywhere the fabric touched.
Ni Xinyu was thoughtful. “Sweetheart, if those clothes are no good, shall Sister take you to buy new ones?”
Mo Ying, still clueless about the reason for their chase, sat down quietly once they stopped talking about hospitals. “No. I want Second Brother to make me new clothes.”
Ni Xinyu was surprised. This sweetheart seemed to have many siblings. If that scheming Yu Xuan was her sister, then she clearly was not an only child. Curious, she asked, “Where is your Second Brother?”
“I do not know.”
“What is his name?”
“Second Brother.”
…
Ni Xinyu felt it might be easier to ask Yu Xuan directly than to find this mysterious Second Brother.
Mo Ying blinked, almost as if reading her mind. “When will you take me to see Fourth Sister?”
Ni Xinyu: …
She calmly pulled out her phone, finding an old message from that green-tea schemer Yu Xuan. “It is not that I will not take you, but your Fourth Sister has flown abroad for an award ceremony. If you insist on going now, you will need a passport first.”
Her words led Mo Ying astray. From initial surprise to disappointment, she finally absorbed only one truth. She would not see her Fourth Sister anytime soon.
Because her Fourth Sister had the right to go abroad, she was already a wealthy foreign fish.
And she herself was still only a little fish with a fish tank.
The comparison made her feel that ever since they had all left the sea, a vast chasm had opened between them. What a sorrowful fate for a fish.
Meanwhile, Yu Xuan, the subject of their discussion, was not abroad but at a lavish banquet in the country. Wearing a wine-red fishtail gown that matched her natural hair color, she exuded elegance and poise. She moved gracefully among the crowd, chatting with ease, until she noticed the bl00d-red tridacna bracelet on Lou Anran’s wrist.
To be honest, tridacna was common, especially among the upper class. Many people liked to collect them. However, a flawless set of one hundred and eight bl00d-red tridacna beads was rare. Even rarer was someone like Lou Anran, who displayed them openly on her wrist.
Every time Chu Shu caught sight of the beads peeking from her boss’s sleeve, she had to endure countless compliments from others. If no one mentioned them, her boss would deliberately ask, “You are an expert in fashion. Do you think this bracelet matches my outfit?”
Boss, please have some shame.
Yet Lou Anran always showed them off proudly. Since wearing the bracelet, her inner turmoil had eased. The irritability, depression, even rage seemed like things from a past life. Every time she remembered it was a gift from the little one, she couldn’t resist fiddling with it, holding it to her ear to listen to the crisp sound of the beads clinking together, her mood instantly improving.
Chu Shu shielded her from countless drinks that night. Just as she picked up another glass of champagne, she saw Yu Xuan approaching with an imposing air. “Boss, the little beauty’s sister does not seem friendly.”
Lou Anran had only learned yesterday that they were sisters when the little one mentioned it herself. The information they had found contained almost nothing about Yu Xuan’s family, which meant she had gone to great lengths to protect them.
“President Lou, your bracelet looks exquisite. May I ask where you bought it?”
Yu Xuan wasted no time, going straight for the target.
Lou Anran deliberately revealed her pale wrist. “Miss Yu, you have a good eye. I also find it exquisite. Unfortunately, it may disappoint you. This was a love token specially given to me by my little one.”
Yu Xuan had been in the entertainment industry for years. She could tell that by “little one,” Lou Anran meant her lover. She refused to give up. “May I see it more closely?”
Last night, she had heard Xiao Wu’s voice at the concert. Now, seeing this flawless bl00d-red tridacna, her eyelids twitched uncontrollably.
Chu Shu thought to herself that her boss was stingy to the extreme and would never even allow a touch.
Yet Lou Anran generously extended her hand, letting her admire it openly.
Yu Xuan stroked the beads and quickly pinpointed one in the middle. Her face darkened instantly. With just that one bead, she knew for certain. This was the bracelet Xiao Wu often played with. “How did you get this tridacna?”
