Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 15
Lou Anran was woken by Ni Xinyu’s sharp voice. Her face darkened with anger as she glared at the three who barged in. Then she snapped at Chu Shu, who had shrunk into the corner, “Who told you to notify her to come?”
Chu Shu looked innocent. Yet what could she do? The boss had taken someone’s singer out in the middle of the night. Of course, the manager would search everywhere for her.
Mo Ying’s little head lost its pillow and her body leaned forward. Lou Anran quickly supported that soft face with her hand and pulled her back into her arms. Mo Ying opened her sleepy eyes just a crack, gave them a brief glance, and then lowered herself across Lou Anran’s lap. She wriggled into the most comfortable position and continued to sleep soundly.
The lead policewoman smiled and tactfully left them the space, closing the door behind her.
Ni Xinyu almost choked on her own breath at the scene. She held back the sharp sound of her high heels as she stepped forward and crouched beside her sweetheart. Mo Ying hugged Lou Anran’s waist with complete trust. Her small face was flushed in sleep, her long lashes trembled faintly, and she showed no sign of waking. Draped over her shoulders was a dark blue suit jacket.
Chu Shu wisely withdrew to check the situation. When she returned, her expression still looked dazed, as if caught in a dream.
Her boss had beaten three fools that morning.
Her boss had taken a little lover clubbing at four in the morning.
Her boss had also gone to the station with the beauty because of a fight.
…
Any one of these stories spread outside would shake the entertainment and business world. The headlines would scream, “The Lou family’s eldest daughter, an overseas investor and jewel heiress, arrested at a club for suspected drug use.”
Chu Shu pressed her forehead and sighed in exhaustion. She bumped into Ni Xinyu outside, who looked just as troubled. The two found a quiet seat, rested their chins on their hands, stared at the flow of people in the station, and sighed together.
When Mo Ying finally woke, the four of them left the station together.
“Miss Lou, thank you for providing evidence in time. May I ask, this kind of new technology you used, has it already been introduced into the country? What I mean is, such compact and effective electronic technology would surely be useful to us police officers as well.”
“I am sorry, I still have business. You can discuss this with my assistant.” Lou Anran signaled to Chu Shu, who immediately handed over a business card, exchanged information with the officer, and even arranged a coffee meeting.
“Sweetheart, come with me.”
“Oh.”
Mo Ying rubbed her eyes and, still half asleep, followed Ni Xinyu toward another car. One foot was just about to step inside when someone lifted her by the back of her collar. She turned and saw it was Lou Anran. In a childish voice, she said goodbye. “I am going home now.”
Lou Anran coaxed patiently. “This morning you asked me for help. That was why I drove you out, right?”
Mo Ying nodded her little head.
Her obedient look made one’s heart itch.
Lou Anran hugged her tighter and continued softly, “Since I brought you out, should I not be the one to send you home? That would be proper from beginning to end.”
Ni Xinyu could not hold back her anger. She pressed the car horn, her voice full of fury. “Lou Xiaohei, do you even remember who you are? Have you no shame? You abducted my artist in the middle of the night, and I let that go. From now on, keep as far away from sweetheart as possible, so you do not corrupt her.”
“Get in the car.”
“She is sending me home.”
Mo Ying saw the fiery red threads swirling around Ni Xinyu and quickly hid behind Lou Anran to absorb them, her cat-like eyes darting nervously.
Ni Xinyu was half dead with anger. She could not drag her little chick away in public, so she gritted her teeth. “Fine, Lou Xiaohei. What kind of spell did you feed her?”
Lou Anran had not expected the child to stand on her side. It felt as if she had discovered the logic of the girl’s thoughts. A smile tugged at her lips as she led her toward her own car. “You should ask what spell she fed me.”
If Mo Ying was a poppy blooming with danger and allure, Lou Anran had to admit she was already deeply ensnared.
…
“You had your assistant call me dozens of times, disrupting an urgent meeting, all to make me come back and look at these meaningless things?” Lou Anran casually picked up the photos that had slipped to the floor. They were clear frontal shots of her being brought to the station. She held one up and let it drop again, laughing coldly. “Do you not know how precious my time is?”
“Anran, how can you speak to your father like that? He is only worried for you.” Ling Huaiyu tried to smooth things over, giving her meaningful glances. Yet Lou Anran, like always, rejected her stepmother’s kindness. Ever since Lou Annie officially moved into the Lou family, she had drawn a clear line between herself and this household.
The photos had been well chosen. The angle made the subject look guilty. Flanked by police officers as she left Moonlight, the dawn light painted a suggestive atmosphere. With the neon sign of Moonlight glowing behind, the image hinted at scandal. It looked less like an arrest and more like a worker from the decadent club who had been caught.
Lou Anran could already guess how the media would spin it. Normally, she was outside the entertainment world and safe from gossip, but unfortunately, she had a sister who loved to stir up scandals for her.
Lou Annie picked up the photos with undisguised glee. “Elder Sister, what did you do this time? Why did the police get involved?”
Lou Siyuan slammed a magazine onto the table. It was from an interview after Anran’s return. “Most promising young leader of the business world? With these photos of you in a nightclub? And the hotel incident before? If I had not suppressed it, do you know how people would laugh at the Lou family?”
Lou Anran was unmoved, her lips even curved in mockery. As always, the truth did not matter. Only the Lou family’s face mattered. “When you cheated on my mother with a mistress and had Lou Annie, did you not think it would one day be exposed and become a joke for the Lou family?”
“Lou Anran!”
Lou Siyuan raised his hand in rage, but she caught his wrist before it fell. A cold light flashed in her eyes. “Do you think I am still an eight-year-old child, to be beaten at your will?”
She shoved hard, and the man of over one hundred seventy pounds fell back onto the sofa. Ling Huaiyu and Lou Annie were stunned, unable to believe she had pushed him.
Lou Siyuan’s face flushed with humiliation. “Lou Anran, do you not respect me as your father at all?”
“Why are you all so loud? A family should talk calmly.” A voice arrived before the man. The sharp tap of a cane echoed through the room, striking every heart. Lou Anran gave Lou Annie a mocking glance.
An energetic old man scanned the room with sharp eyes. Then he smiled and beckoned. “Come, Anran. Let Grandfather take a good look at you.”
Lou Anran immediately softened and helped him sit down. “Grandfather, what brings you here?”
The old man held her hand and studied her carefully. “You have lost weight. You must not be eating well outside. From now on, come back to live here. I will have Aunt Yun cook for you every day so you can recover.”
“Father.”
“Grandfather, a girl is prettier when she is slim.” Lou Anran thought of Mo Ying. The child should be satisfied with her. “Besides, Aunt Yun is old. She should enjoy her peace.”
“Father, if you keep indulging her, she will climb over my head.” Lou Siyuan angrily grabbed the photos and threw them on the table. “Look at what she has become since returning. She does not come home, she ignores calls, she spends her days in these places, and even…” He faltered, unable to speak the rest.
“If you have complaints, say them all at once.” Lou Anran’s voice was calm, her face unchanging. She did not care for their accusations.
“You foolish child, what nonsense are you saying? Your father does not dislike you. He only worries that by mixing in those circles, you will pick up bad habits.” Ling Huaiyu hurried to patch the cracks again.
“Oh, the photos are good.” Grandfather studied them with sharp eyes. Then he tapped the glowing Moonlight sign in the background. “Anran, if you go to such places for business, take five or six bodyguards. With your position, you must not be careless.”
“Yes, Grandfather.”
“Business? You call that business?” Lou Siyuan’s voice rose in pitch. “Father, I know you favor Anran, but how can you just invent an excuse to protect her?”
Bang!
Grandfather’s cane struck the floor. “What do you know? She came out of the station with a huge order. Do you think she went there for fun?”
At that moment, Lou Anran’s phone rang. She excused herself to take the call. “Grandfather, I must return to the company.”
Grandfather did not stop her, but turned his anger on Lou Siyuan. “How did I raise such a useless son? All you know is playing with stones.”
The scolding faded as Lou Anran walked out with Chu Shu. Almost on cue, Chu Shu’s call had come after the old man entered. “Boss, you planned that, didn’t you?”
Lou Anran opened her WeChat and looked at a photo of the child. “What did I plan?”
Seeing her boss in rare good spirits, Chu Shu remarked, “You deliberately took the beauty to Lou Annie’s usual haunts and let her take pictures.”
The girl had not posted a new status, but she had changed her selfie. Her sweet smile was infectious. “What good would that do me?”
Chu Shu’s eyes flicked to the black diamond earring. To outsiders it appeared to be a simple stud, but in truth it was advanced technology, able to record both video and audio.
When she retrieved it from the station, the officer had expressed gratitude. Moonlight had no surveillance, and witnesses had altered their statements out of fear. Fortunately, Miss Lou had recorded everything. With both evidence and testimony, the culprits had no chance of escape.
Chu Shu forced herself not to dwell on it. She shook her head to drive the thoughts away. “By the way, Boss, Sister Ni said that Yu Xuan has been coming to Anchen Entertainment every day to ask for someone.”
Lou Anran casually sent the child a red envelope. After waiting a few minutes without a reply, she frowned and asked, “Do you think Yu Xuan would agree to terminate her contract for the girl’s sake?”
Chu Shu hesitated. “If the story about her treating a tridacna like a toy is true, then termination is almost certain.”
Lou Anran’s face darkened. “What did you just say?”
“…Boss, I did not say anything.”
The car fell silent. At that moment, Chu Shu’s phone rang. She picked up immediately, avoiding her boss’s deadly gaze. After listening, she frowned. Should she tell the boss that Sister Ni was taking Mo Ying to the company right now?
