Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 16
Ni Xinyu’s exact words were, “Sweetheart must have been triggered by something and insisted on joining a talent show. So I brought her to the company first to get familiar with the environment. Also, a warning for your boss, tell her not to poke her nose into Anchen Entertainment’s business.”
Lou Anran gripped her phone tightly. After a moment of silence, she could not resist tapping open Mo Ying’s selfie again and saved it. “Let her go.”
Chu Shu could not read her boss’s thoughts. Just a moment ago, they had been discussing whether Yu Xuan would terminate Mo Ying’s contract in a fit of rage. After all, for people obsessed with stones, a penalty fee of tens of millions was no big deal. The last time her boss had been blunt, Miss Yu had struck back beautifully, leaving Lou Anran depressed for days.
“Boss, there’s one more thing.”
“Why can’t you just say everything at once?”
“That Mr. Kong you asked me to contact? His European schedule is booked through December. I personally called, but his assistant cut me off before I could even finish my sentence.”
Lou Anran gave her a sideways glance. “You couldn’t even get a tailor to come back? Is your million salary as a special assistant too easy to earn?”
Chu Shu broke into a cold sweat. “I’ll book a flight immediately and invite him in person.”
…
The moment Ni Xinyu heard that Yu Xuan was camped out at Anchen Entertainment, she froze mid-yawn. “Sweetheart, we need to set a few ground rules.”
Mo Ying had been drowsy lately, falling asleep wherever she went. Unless hunger roused her, she was barely awake. At this moment, she mumbled, “Huh?”
Ni Xinyu pinched her cheek with irritation, squishing it like dough. “Are you awake now?”
Mo Ying’s face was nearly distorted. Her wide eyes curiously scanned the dim surroundings filled with parked cars. “Are we at the company?”
Ni Xinyu’s car had stopped in the garage. The elevator above led directly to their office. “Let’s go over our ground rules now. Listen carefully.”
Mo Ying nodded eagerly, but the drowsiness crept back like a tiny sleep gremlin.
“First, stay far away from Lou Xiaohei. She doesn’t mean well. Don’t be stupid enough to get eaten alive without realizing it.”
“Second, if you encounter any unspoken rules in the workplace when I’m not around and the situation becomes dangerous, you can still turn to Lou Xiaohei. She’s trustworthy.”
“Third—”
Mo Ying blinked her fish-like eyes and looked at her in confusion. “Why call her Lou Xiaohei? Her whole body’s really pale.”
Ni Xinyu:
“!!!”
She stepped closer, narrowing her eyes as she sized her up. “How do you know her whole body’s pale? That beast didn’t hold back last night, did she? Took you to a hotel?!”
Mo Ying’s legs tensed. Her bottom squirmed uneasily in her seat. Humans had sharp instincts.
She deflected. “She didn’t take me to a hotel. She brought me to a karaoke place to listen to music.”
Ni Xinyu stared suspiciously at her for a long time, calculating the time in her head. Once she confirmed Lou Anran had no opportunity to take her darling to a hotel, she finally smiled with relief, like a mother spared from disaster. “Good. That’s good. Don’t be fooled by Lou Xiaohei’s appearance. She looks so prim and proper, barely cracks a smile, but she’s very dark inside.”
Mo Ying was still hung up on Lou Anran’s nickname. “She’s not dark. Let’s call her White-hearted Lou from now on.”
Ni Xinyu choked, frustrated by this clueless little airhead. She jabbed a finger at her bobbing head. “You’re the real white-hearted one, Mo Whitey.”
Mo Ying lifted her sleeve and admired her jade-like pale arm. Happily, she accepted her new nickname. “What’s the third rule?”
Thrown off track by her, Ni Xinyu suppressed her urge to roll her eyes as she pressed the elevator button. “Just two for now. As a singer, you need to protect yourself. I’m afraid you’ll get chewed up until there’s nothing left of you.”
Protect herself?
Mo Ying slapped her chest confidently. “Don’t worry. I’ll definitely protect myself.”
Ding—
The elevator arrived.
Ni Xinyu ushered Mo Ying in while reminding her about the people and things to be cautious of at the company. The more she talked, the sleepier Mo Ying got. Her voice looped in Mo Ying’s ears like a lullaby.
“Miss Yu, you can’t go in without an appointment.”
“Then go get Ni Xinyu to see me herself. I have plenty of time.”
Yu Xuan carried a natural commanding presence. She walked with bold confidence. Even when her words were sharp, they became captivating when spoken in her melodious voice. The receptionist blocking her way was actually a fan. Now face-to-face with her idol, she was so overwhelmed that sweat beaded on her skin, completely lost in Yu Xuan’s deep vortex-like eyes.
“Would you like to sit and wait, Miss Yu?”
“That’s Fourth Sister’s voice!”
Mo Ying, half-asleep, sprang out of the elevator before the doors fully closed. Her speed was so fast that Ni Xinyu, who tried to grab her, missed entirely. By the time she frantically pressed the button to return to the second floor, the prized fish she had been guarding for half a month had already been snatched.
Damn that Yu Xuan.
The two sisters embraced without a care for their surroundings. Mo Ying jumped up and down with joy, pulling on Yu Xuan like she had just received a brand-new toy. She cried out in delight, “Fourth Sister, Fourth Sister, Fourth Sister!”
Before finding her, Yu Xuan had planned to spank the little troublemaker for running off. But now, she could only worry whether the little fish had been mistreated in their absence. “Xiao Wu, why didn’t you stay home and rest? Why did you run off like this?”
Mo Ying pouted. “I was hungry.”
Hunger had pulled her from sleep. She had no choice but to surface and search for food. Lately, the hunger had started coming back.
Yu Xuan looked at her pitiful expression and was heartbroken. “You didn’t get enough to eat?”
Aside from the livestream, which barely nourished her in the beginning, she had only felt genuinely full once, and that was during the concert. Mo Ying rubbed her tummy and nodded truthfully. “Not full.”
Ni Xinyu, “???”
She stepped forward in a panic. “No, sweetheart! I’ve never mistreated my artists. If you say things like that to Miss Yu, she’ll eat me alive!”
Yu Xuan had already been itching to confront Ni Xinyu. Seeing her show up uninvited only fueled her fire. She bared her teeth. “Miss Ni, how sneaky of you. What are you trying to do, hiding my Xiao Wu?”
Ni Xinyu scoffed. “I signed a legal contract with her. I stand on solid ground. Better than someone who lurks around my place like a perverted stalker.”
Yu Xuan showed no shame at being exposed. Finding Ni Xinyu in a sea of people had been both easy and hard.
The boss behind Anchen Entertainment was still a mystery, but Ni Xinyu was a shareholder. Yu Xuan had tried chasing Lou Anran for some time, but that woman was as slippery as a fox. She changed hiding places constantly and knew how to shake off her trail. Eventually, Yu Xuan had to look elsewhere. Coincidentally, the story Mo Ying told during her livestream had spread within the company. Through Guan Xiuniang, she learned of Miao Jin’s existence… and from there, she traced it to Ni Xinyu.
“Manager contract?”
Mo Ying had no idea why, the moment they met, these two began firing off words like machine guns. She leaned on Yu Xuan’s shoulder, drifting off to sleep.
Ni Xinyu narrowed her eyes. “What, Miss Yu? Interested in my private life and now my work too?”
Yu Xuan glanced at the sleepy girl nestled against her. “She’s so exhausted, and you still claim you didn’t overwork her? I seriously suspect you’ve been abusing her behind my back.”
Ni Xinyu exploded. “…Bullshit!”
Yu Xuan sneered. “Then explain her condition right now.”
Ni Xinyu was speechless. She wanted to rip that fake smile right off Yu Xuan’s face. “It’s not what you think.”
It was all Lou Xiaohei’s fault. She had dragged the sweetheart to a nightclub just for fun. Now she looked guilty in front of Yu Xuan. There was no way to put it into words.
She was furious.
Yu Xuan had no interest in arguing. She just wanted the kid to sleep well and warned coldly, “If I hear anything bad about how you treat her, I’ll settle the score with you.”
Ni Xinyu gritted her teeth. “You better mean it. I’ll be waiting.”
When Mo Ying woke up, she found herself in a room both familiar and unfamiliar. Everything was decorated in shades of blue. Starfish pillows lay everywhere. Even the curtains had a grinning cartoon whale. She drew them back and stood before the floor-to-ceiling window. The distant ocean came into view.
She rubbed her eyes to be sure she was not imagining it. Then she ran out barefoot.
At the foot of the stairs, she saw Yu Xuan in loose pajamas. Yu Xuan brought her a plate of freshly pan-fried fish. “Eat before you go out to play.”
Mo Ying grabbed a fish and crunched into it. Chewing as she ran, she darted outside. Yu Xuan followed her naturally. She had bought this ocean-view villa in hopes of bringing her Xiao Wu here one day.
And today, the little one gave her a pleasant shock.
Yu Xuan watched her rolling in the sea. The shallow waves kissed the shore, soaking her feet. She felt a twinge of excitement herself. “Xiao Wu, don’t go too far.”
Mo Ying slapped her golden tail hard in the water. Like a dart, she shot back and wrapped her arms around Yu Xuan’s legs, trying to drag her into the sea. “Fourth Sister, come play with me?”
Yu Xuan quickly pulled her legs back. “Don’t mess around. It’s broad daylight. Someone might see. I’ll join you tonight.”
Mo Ying was overjoyed to finally reunite with her family. She unleashed every bit of her clingy charm. While they played, Yu Xuan’s gaze drifted to the small golden flower blooming on Mo Ying’s abdomen. Two petals had already unfurled, shy and delicate.
Mo Ying noticed her gaze and proudly puffed out her belly. “Fourth Sister, isn’t my tattoo as pretty as my tail?”
Yu Xuan suddenly grabbed her wrist. “Are you pregnant?”
