Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 20
Ever since her fourth sister told her that raising the baby fish would take two people, Mo Ying had been worrying herself to death. She racked her brain for solutions, but the most effective one was instantly vetoed by Lou Anran.
“Hmph, Lou Xiaohei.”
Mo Ying muttered resentfully. She had not come up with a better idea when Xiao Ai suddenly let out a cry. “President Ni, what happened? Did you fall into a river or something?”
Xiao Qiu chimed in, “Oh no, please don’t catch a cold. I’ll go make you some ginger tea.”
Ni Xinyu was wrapped in a blanket from head to toe, her hair still dripping wet. She looked like she had crawled out of a sewer. She hopped along on one foot, deliberately leaning all her weight against Yu Xuan, clearly trying to see how this perverted freak would lose face.
But to her surprise, apart from not needing assistance while inside the car, Yu Xuan had calmly supported her the entire way. She walked hundreds of meters without breaking a sweat or showing any change in expression, as though she could easily keep going for another eight kilometers.
“This one is…?”
“She’ll be leaving soon. No need to worry about her.”
Xiao Ai instinctively glanced at Yu Xuan’s equally cold and disgusted expression. What she saw made her jump. A clear handprint burned bright on Yu Xuan’s cheek. Her skin was so pale and tender that the mark looked like it had been painted on with vermilion. The red against the white stood out starkly.
Yu Xuan’s deep eyes swept over Xiao Ai, then she called into the house, “Xiao Wu.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Mo Ying came running out barefoot. The moment she saw the slap mark on Yu Xuan’s face, she blinked in surprise. “Whoa, Fourth Sister, someone hit you.”
Yu Xuan gave the culprit a sidelong glance. Ni Xinyu raised her proud chin and cracked her fingers, pretending to lift her hand again. “You pervert.”
Mo Ying looked at them both in confusion and asked, “Did you hit her back, Fourth Sister?”
Yu Xuan suddenly gave a stunning smile. Her red lips parted slightly. “Don’t worry, Xiao Wu. Your Fourth Sister didn’t suffer. I touched her back.”
Ni Xinyu reacted like someone had stepped on her tail, practically exploding. “Yu Xuan, you shameless thing. Try that again and see what happens!”
Yu Xuan glanced at her chest with disdain, then slid over like a skittish mantis shrimp and pushed Ni Xinyu in front of Mo Ying. “Xiao Wu, you should stay together for a while, but not in the same room. Got it?”
Mo Ying blinked. “But haven’t we always been together?”
Ni Xinyu sighed. With how vague the sweetheart’s tone was, she could not even clear her name if she jumped into the Yellow River. “Sweetheart, we’re together every day for work. That doesn’t mean we’re living together. Don’t make it sound like we’ve been physically intimate.”
Yu Xuan watched her ‘excuse’ with disdain. “Regardless, I’ll be staying here for a while. Since President Ni is injured, she should focus on healing.”
Ni Xinyu nearly stomped her foot. “You’re staying here? You have a perfectly good villa. Why squeeze in with us? Sweetheart, tell your Fourth Sister to leave.”
Yu Xuan replied, “I’m staying here, Ni Xinyu. I need to keep a close eye on you.”
Ni Xinyu, “…”
Where did this maniac come from?
Forget strategies or escape plans. With Yu Xuan watching her like a hawk day and night, Ni Xinyu had to shelve all schemes and become a model patient at home.
Yu Xuan’s decision was final. A few words from her locked everyone into a forced ‘cohabitation’ situation.
Mo Ying had no idea how much her Fourth Sister worried for her and the baby fish. The house suddenly felt more lively with two extra people.
For example, Ni Xinyu, unable to walk properly, was assigned to a guest room on the ground floor. When Yu Xuan was not around, she would wave frantically at Mo Ying. As soon as Mo Ying obediently sat beside her, she would lower her voice and ask, “Sweetheart, just tell me. Who the hell did the deed—”
Upstairs, Yu Xuan had a clear view. This persistent little snake, despite being injured, was almost sprawled on top of Mo Ying.
“Xiao Wu, don’t get too close to her.”
Ni Xinyu watched in horror as her moment of truth got cut short. With that reminder, sweetheart bounced off the sofa like a startled fish.
She clenched her fists. “Are you crazy? You’re the one who insisted I stay with sweetheart, and now you’re acting like a prison guard. You change more than the weather. What the hell do you want?”
“If you want to talk, talk properly. Why sit so close? You have impure intentions.”
Mo Ying looked at the fuming agent, who looked ready to fight on one leg, then at her Fourth Sister, wrapped in crimson sashes and standing with arms crossed. She could not get a word in. She quietly slurped the spicy strands of essence. She did not really like this flavor.
What she liked best was the purple-red strand Lou Anran released. She sighed. “Sigh, Lou Xiaohei.”
After the quarrel, both women turned around and realized Mo Ying had disappeared. She had gone upstairs long ago.
Mo Ying now sat behind a locked door, soothing the baby fish cub in her belly. Her eyes stayed fixed on the hidden door, and when hunger grew unbearable, she would stick to it like an octopus and listen closely for any sounds from the next room.
When a wisp of purple-red essence slipped through the gap beneath the door, she would sneak it open.
If nothing came, Mo Ying would slip into a restless anxiety without realizing it.
Today was no different. There was no movement in the room next door. Not even the usual glow of light. There was no doubt that there was no strand that both she and the baby fish yearned for. She pressed her face against the crack like a cat, peering inside with green eyes.
Click.
The light suddenly came on. Mo Ying blinked, caught off guard. Just as she tried to see if Lou Anran had returned, the room went dark again.
Mo Ying, “???”
She heard nothing. She tapped her toes on the carpet, counting seconds. When she reached sixty, she opened the secret door that connected their rooms. She walked across the carpet as if she owned the place, saw no one inside, then flopped onto the bed and rolled around. The sheets were full of Lou Anran’s cool minty scent.
The hunger came in waves. Mo Ying gently patted her belly. “Lou Xiaohei doesn’t want you. She said she wants the other baby. What do we do now?”
Click.
Chu Shu had returned to fetch something. When she turned on the light and saw someone lying on the boss’s bed, she leapt back like a startled bird. “Ahhh, what the—”
Mo Ying jumped too, quickly wrapping herself in the blanket like a cocoon. After a frantic round of confirmation, the two finally recognized each other.
“Little beauty!”
“Mm, I’m looking for Lou Xiaohei.”
Under the light, both instantly realized who the other was.
Chu Shu almost thought the room had been broken into. In the dead of night, a woman suddenly appearing in the boss’s bed could only be a ghost or a succubus. She even glanced at the floor to check for a shadow. “Ahem, little beauty, you’re looking for the boss? Something came up at home. She had to fly abroad.”
Mo Ying blinked. “She flew off?”
Seeing the sadness and disappointment on her face, Chu Shu rushed to explain. “Actually, her grandfather is sick. She flew over to take care of him. She’ll be back soon.”
Mo Ying panicked, threw off the blanket, and jumped out of bed barefoot. “Lou Xiaohei flew away?”
Chu Shu looked at the secret door and instantly understood that the boss and this girl had a not-so-secret thing going on. She checked her watch. “…Yes, she left. Before she got on the plane, she told me to pick up something from her room.”
…
Two days later, Yu Xuan noticed her Xiao Wu had wilted. She lay on the sofa like a salted fish, refusing to move.
Ni Xinyu was ordered to sit at a table two meters away from Mo Ying. Her leg, swollen like a bun, rested on a stool. She kept sneezing and had already gone through an entire pack of tissues. With a weak voice, she asked, “What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
A mermaid’s constitution was not as delicate as a human’s.
Yu Xuan quickly ruled out any contagious illness. That left only one possibility. “This doesn’t make sense.”
Mo Ying glanced at her. “Fourth Sister, I really want to sing. If I don’t work soon, I won’t be able to support the baby fish.”
Without Lou Anran’s soothing strand, her hunger had doubled. With it, she could cut back on food.
But it had to be from Lou Anran. Only from Lou Anran.
Ni Xinyu’s ears were ringing, so she missed the last part. She only heard the dramatic proclamation. She dragged her fuzzy head and nearly useless leg forward. “Sweetheart, congrats. You passed the preliminary round.”
Mo Ying’s eyes lit up. Her green pupils sparkled. “Really? I passed? Does that mean I can keep singing?”
Ni Xinyu immediately opened the list and pointed to her name. “After the preliminaries, there’s the first round, second round, semifinals, then finals. Sweetheart, are you scared—achoo.”
Mo Ying said, “What’s there to be scared of? I love singing.”
Yu Xuan stood nearby with her arms crossed, quietly observing the two as they chatted, completely absorbed in each other as if the rest of the world had vanished. She glanced between the lifeless Mo Ying slumped on the sofa and Ni Xinyu working nearby. A thought crossed her mind.
Had she misunderstood?
The next day, Ni Xinyu opened her door with a pounding head, only to find Yu Xuan staring at her with a strange expression.
“Move. I don’t have the energy to argue today.”
Yu Xuan suddenly reached out and touched her forehead. “You’re burning up. You should see a doctor.”
Ni Xinyu’s ears buzzed as she instinctively dodged the pervert’s hand. Yu Xuan’s perfect lips moved, but she could not make out a word.
Yu Xuan grabbed her arm. “Come on. I’ll have Xiao Ai take you to the hospital.”
Even as Xiao Ai helped her into the car, Ni Xinyu still felt the whole thing was surreal. Just a few days ago, Yu Xuan had been guarding the door like a dragon protecting treasure. Now she was sending her out.
“What the hell is this psycho up to now?”
Once she was gone, Yu Xuan found that her Xiao Wu was still acting like a salted fish, no different than before. Her face turned serious.
“Xiao Wu, I need to ask you something. You must answer me honestly.”
Mo Ying’s little head rested on her hands. She was half asleep. Hearing her Fourth Sister’s voice, she blearily opened her eyes.
Yu Xuan gently reached out to touch her belly. Mo Ying flinched away. “Xiao Wu, who is the other mother or father of the baby fish?”
Mo Ying was so shocked she hiccuped. Her eyes slowly cleared. She looked away, avoiding Yu Xuan’s gaze, her little head turning left and right. Not once did she look her Fourth Sister in the eye. “Fourth Sister…”
Yu Xuan waited patiently for her answer. However, even after a long silence, Mo Ying only pouted and refused to say anything. Yu Xuan could not help but guess. “Xiao Wu, do you like her or him a lot?”
Lou Xiaohei?
The moment Mo Ying remembered that person talking about going out to find another cub, or even figuring out a way to make another one, she sighed heavily. “Fourth Sister, can I not say it?”
Lou Xiaohei had no plans to take responsibility. She did not want the baby fish…
Lou Xiaohei had completely abandoned her.
Yu Xuan saw her curl up and avoid the question. She was both angry and worried. A flash of doubt about whether Ni the Great Agent was even a suspect passed through her mind. “You joined the talent show because you were hungry, didn’t you?”
Mo Ying immediately sat up and nodded obediently. “Fourth Sister, do you have a way to feed me?”
Yu Xuan pressed her lips into a thin line. “The singer path Ni Xinyu planned for you is worth trying, but you need to build a solid fan base. The fans’ everyday emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, especially their feelings toward you, whether they like or hate you, can all be absorbed and stored as nourishment. Xiao Wu, you need to cast a long line to catch big fish. You can’t go on living so carelessly.”
Mo Ying’s eyes lit up. “How do I catch them?”
The two sisters lay on the sofa all afternoon talking about how to catch fish. “Manage your social media well. After your debut, post videos of yourself regularly…”
Yu Xuan turned her head and saw her Xiao Wu asleep, her small head tilted sweetly in slumber. “No matter how you film her, she always looks good.”
…
Ni Xinyu had been hospitalized.
The news Xiao Ai brought back was directed straight at Yu Xuan. “The doctor said her foot might have hit something again. It’s worse than before. She’ll probably need a cast… Also, she picked up a bacterial infection from somewhere, leading to a respiratory infection. She’s still in the hospital getting IVs. I came back to grab a few changes of clothes to take care of President Ni.”
After she spoke, Xiao Ai rushed upstairs to pack. In less than ten minutes, she came down carrying a bag.
Mo Ying was still bewildered. “Xiao Ai, is Sister Ni really that bad?”
Yu Xuan sat uncomfortably nearby, silently waiting for the answer. Xiao Ai did not notice and blurted it out. “It’s pretty bad. They say it takes a hundred days to heal torn muscles and bones. She’ll probably be in a wheelchair for the next few months.”
Mo Ying’s bare feet curled up instinctively. Her calves tensed. “Ah, will she get better?”
Yu Xuan gently patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry, Xiao Wu. I’ll go check on her.”
Mo Ying immediately grabbed her Fourth Sister’s sleeve nervously. “Fourth Sister, not the hospital. Don’t go to the hospital.”
Yu Xuan chuckled softly. “Third Brother was only scaring you before. Hospitals aren’t that bad. Fourth Sister can handle it. Stay home like a good girl. If you get hungry, call me.”
Mo Ying hesitated and wanted to follow, but Yu Xuan stopped her. Left with no choice, she curled up on the sofa and waited quietly for news. But instead of Yu Xuan, she saw someone she had not encountered in several days. It was Lou Anran.
“Little one.”
“!!!”
Mo Ying’s eyes sparkled like she had just spotted a priceless treasure. But then she remembered Lou Anran’s cold departure last time. She pouted and twisted back and forth on the sofa, throwing a small tantrum.
Lou Anran had rushed back in a hurry. The moment she saw Mo Ying sulking adorably, all her exhaustion vanished. Even after over ten hours of nonstop travel, switching planes three times without rest, she felt it was all worth it. “Little one, I brought you a gift.”
Mo Ying looked angry on the surface. In reality, the baby fish in her belly had already betrayed her. That burning hunger faded the moment she saw Lou Anran.
She patted her rebellious belly in frustration and walked barefoot to Lou Anran, grumbling. “Why did you only come back now?”
They had not seen each other since their last falling-out. Lou Anran could not help but stroke the girl’s puffed-up cheeks. Chu Shu’s exaggerated descriptions echoed in her mind. She gave her cheek a light pinch and suddenly understood Ni Xinyu’s strange obsession.
“Something came up. Did you miss me these past few days?”
She had thought of her every day and night, even dreamed about her.
Mo Ying smacked her lips. “No way. What gift did you bring me?”
Lou Anran smiled and took her small hand. She nodded to Xiao Qiu, who was frozen stiff on the side, then led Mo Ying away. Xiao Qiu panicked and immediately called Ni Xinyu.
Ni Xinyu was chewing an apple when she got the call. She casually put it on speaker.
Chu Shu was helping beside her and overheard everything. When Xiao Qiu anxiously said that Mo Ying had been taken by Lou Anran, Chu Shu laughed. “We all knew already. It’s fine. Hang up.”
After the call, she turned to Ni Xinyu with a smile. “I don’t think the boss is just playing around. After I told her the little beauty was looking for her, she shortened her week-long trip to three days and flew back overnight. She didn’t even stop by the office. She came straight here to find her. What does that tell you?”
Ni Xinyu, still hooked up to an IV, bit into her apple. “It tells me Lou Xiaohei is making a move on my sweetheart. I won’t allow it.”
Chu Shu replied, “You care. If the boss didn’t care, she wouldn’t lift a finger.”
Ni Xinyu scoffed. “You have zero relationship experience, yet you know what it means to care? Even if Lou Xiaohei put all her wealth in front of my sweetheart, I still wouldn’t allow it. Got that?”
Chu Shu shrugged. “What does it matter if you don’t allow it? The boss already took the little beauty. You’ll just have to stay put in the hospital—”
Bang!
Both women jumped at the sound. They turned to see Yu Xuan storming into the room.
“Your boss? Lou Anran?”
How could she have forgotten her?
The apple in Ni Xinyu’s hand instantly lost all flavor. She frowned. “When did you get here?”
Yu Xuan ignored the patient in the bed and leaned over to glare down at Chu Shu. Her intimidating aura made the assistant tremble. “Where are they? Give me the address.”
…
Lou Anran had booked a hotel room especially for this. Mo Ying followed her inside, completely unsuspecting. She looked around and found that aside from the location, the layout was almost exactly like the presidential suite from before.
Since their last unpleasant exchange, Lou Anran had been planning to talk things through properly with the little one. No more annoying people around, just red wine, a candlelit dinner…
“But before that, I want to introduce you to a master. I hope he won’t disappoint you.”
“Who?”
Lou Anran glanced at the time. Right then, the doorbell rang. She walked over quickly and winked at Mo Ying. Soon, Mo Ying saw someone standing at the door.
It was Kong Rulan, dressed in a sleeveless long coat with blue and white panels. At over 1.7 meters tall, he stood out easily. Underneath, he wore just shorts and a T-shirt.
Mo Ying blinked, thinking her eyes were playing tricks.
Kong Rulan smiled wider when he saw her staring in confusion. Standing at the doorway, he opened his arms. “Come here.”
Mo Ying squealed and ran over to hug him. Her small frame clung to him tightly. “Second Brother! Second Brother, I missed you so much.”
Lou Anran, “…”
Kong Rulan let her hug him for a long time before gently patting her head. “Xiao… Wu has grown taller.”
Mo Ying straightened proudly. “Second Brother, you’ve grown taller too.”
Lou Anran finally snapped out of her daze. She was both amused and exasperated. “You two are actually siblings?”
Mo Ying happily bounced while holding onto Kong Rulan’s arm. “He’s my Second Brother.”
Kong Rulan gave Lou Anran a polite nod in greeting. “Let me take a good look.”
Lou Anran looked at the surprise she had carefully planned and felt like it was about to backfire. She rubbed her forehead, watching the two excited siblings reunite as she sat nearby, bored, and flipped the TV to silent mode.
Ding—
The doorbell rang again.
Lou Anran checked the time. The room service was early. She realized her plans for a candlelit dinner, heartfelt conversation, and playful water games were all about to go down the drain. She braced herself and opened the door.
Yu Xuan, Chu Shu, and the limping yet determined Ni Xinyu stood outside. Ni Xinyu gave her a helpless look.
Yu Xuan stormed past Lou Anran. When she saw Mo Ying and Kong Rulan laughing on the sofa, her anger faded. But she stepped forward and insisted, “Xiao Wu, tell Fourth Sister. Who is the other mother or father of the baby fish?”
Everyone in the room, “???”
Kong Rulan glanced at Mo Ying’s flat belly. “A baby fish… needs two…”
Chu Shu and Ni Xinyu exchanged stunned glances. They mouthed silently, “Pregnant?”
Ni Xinyu finally understood why Yu Xuan was so dead set on her sweetheart being taken advantage of. Her certainty made sense now.
But the problem remained of who was the scumbag that did it and made her take the fall?
Lou Anran stood frozen in disbelief. The whole situation was absurd.
Mo Ying shrank into the corner, clearly unhappy.
Yu Xuan knew she had acted too hastily. But when she thought of the child suffering daily from hunger, she wanted to drag the culprit out and beat them up. “Tell Fourth Sister. Your Second Brother and I will stand up for you.”
Mo Ying’s eyes instinctively searched the crowd until they landed on Lou Xiaohei. She looked stunned, completely in disbelief. Mo Ying turned away, her round little feet stepped on a control panel. She kept stepping on it in frustration. The TV channels kept switching. “Do I really have to say it?”
Yu Xuan said, “You must. Is she here in this room?”
Her eyes, sharp as knives, swept toward Lou Anran.
Mo Ying looked up just in time to see a public service ad about caring for animals. The young girl next to the featured pet looked very familiar. She squinted.
Then she nearly exploded. “It’s her.”
Everyone turned to look at the screen.
A young Lou Annie beamed shyly at the camera, hugging a leopard cub that looked more like a cat.
