Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 27
Mo Ying held her phone and waited for quite a while. The large screen in the lounge continued broadcasting the preliminaries. Heart-wrenching and melancholic love songs stirred up tears across the room. The witty voices of the four mentors echoed from the speakers, drawing bursts of laughter. Everyone’s attention was glued to the ratings being announced, as they waited to see if anyone would qualify for Group A that night.
Only Mo Ying remained focused on her phone, tapping it again and again with growing confusion. “Why is no one replying to me?” she wondered.
When Wanqi Tianxin first saw her crouched in a corner sending voice messages, she chose not to disturb her. Instead, she continued chatting with Wu Si, arms slung over each other’s shoulders. Half an hour passed. Then an hour. The day’s event finally came to a close.
A staff member entered with a bright smile, scanning the room filled with dazzling beauties. “Next, we’ll be assigning your accommodations.”
At once, everyone shed their lazy posture and surged forward to surround the handsome young man. They all began to plead for dorm arrangements.
“Let me share a room with her. We came from the same place.”
“We’re from the same agency.”
Wanqi Tianxin was a step too late, having gone to fetch Mo Ying, who was still counting mushrooms by the wall. The four of them were pushed to the very edge of the crowd, forced to watch as everyone scrambled to fabricate reasons to be roommates. The most bizarre excuse heard was, “We can’t be separated, or we’ll start sleepwalking and scare everyone.”
They say three women can put on a full drama, but this group of glamorous women surrounding the staff member looked more like an entire theater troupe. Normally, being surrounded by so many pretty girls should have been a dream, but the young man could no longer tolerate it. He raised his voice.
“Quiet, please. Rooms will be assigned according to the ratings each of you received tonight.”
Everyone froze in shock.
After the last season of Sing for the Song became a hit, behind-the-scenes footage from the preliminaries had gone viral. Most of it was the contestants complaining about the difficult living conditions. The show’s funding had mainly gone into stage effects, leaving contestants crammed four to six to a room due to lack of sponsorship.
The staff member smirked as he saw the shock on their faces.
“Congratulations. This time, our main sponsor was touched by how delicate and refined you all are. They’ve funded three shared villas. Room assignments will be based on your preliminary rating.”
Wanqi Tianxin clung to Mo Ying’s arm, shaking it with excitement. “Ahhh, Xiao Yu’er! We get to stay in a villa! This is amazing!” Then, a thought occurred to her. “Wait, does that mean we might not be in the same room?”
Chen Ruiling spoke calmly. “Who said I wanted to share a room with you?”
Mo Ying cared about one specific thing. “Will there be a big bathtub?”
Wu Si replied with certainty. “It’s a big villa. There should definitely be a big bathtub. Otherwise, it’s not a proper villa. But with so many of us…”
Someone suddenly raised a question. “What about the contestants who haven’t been rated yet? Where will they stay?”
The staff member shrugged. “They won’t be getting the same perks, at least for now. But that’s not something you need to worry about. For now, everyone, line up and come get your room assignment cards and keys based on your rating.”
Wanqi Tianxin gave Mo Ying a push. “Go on. You have the highest rating among everyone here.”
Wu Si added, “Right. There’s probably no one entering Group A tonight. Go on, Xiao Yu’er.”
Mo Ying blinked. The staff member was already calling out to her.
“Xiao Yu’er. Group B. Villa A, Room 501F. Here’s your key and card.”
“Qu Shulan. Group D. Villa B, Room 301F.”
“Duan Tianya. Group C. Villa B, Room 401F.”
…
Everyone received their room assignments and were still basking in the excitement when the staff member added, “Since this season has three times as many contestants, your single rooms may be converted into doubles or triples later on for various reasons.”
Wanqi Tianxin picked up Mo Ying’s room key. “Wait. Villa A and Villa B. Are they what I think they are?”
Mo Ying was still dazed and unsure. Before she could figure it out, a pretty girl entered the room holding a shiny placard.
“Those staying in Villa A, please follow me.”
The staff member raised his placard as well. “Villa B residents, gather here.”
After Mo Ying left with the Villa A group, Wanqi Tianxin finally realized what had just happened.
“Wait. Xiao Yu’er is staying alone in a whole villa?!”
Indeed, the lucky contestant Mo Ying was led by the guide, who confirmed that her room did include a large bathtub. Mo Ying’s steps became light with joy.
“Make sure to lock your doors and windows at night,” the staff member advised. “Stay safe.”
Mo Ying was already experienced in villa living. She happily found Room 501, its number displayed on the door. The corridor lights sparkled in shifting colors, glittering like glass. Mo Ying admired them for a moment, then tapped her card and entered.
The room inside was pitch dark. She could not see a thing. Just as she closed the door behind her, someone suddenly embraced her. The force pushed her back a step, and just as she was about to hit the door, a pair of hands gently cushioned her waist.
Mo Ying’s legs tingled. She wanted to kick, but the familiar scent of mint flooded her senses. Her eyes widened. She clearly saw the face of the one pressing against her.
“Lou Xiaohei!”
Hearing that sweet, rising tone of surprise from the girl’s lips erased every punishment Lou Anran had planned along the way. She immediately softened.
Wrapping Mo Ying in her arms, she asked, “Are you happy to see me?”
Mo Ying’s green eyes sparkled like stars in the dark.
“Of course.”
The problems that had plagued her all day seemed to dissolve in this one moment. She shifted slightly, but Lou Anran leaned in closer. Their faces were so close they touched, and in the darkness, the intimacy felt even more magnified.
Mo Ying felt the closeness was too much. She tried to scoot back, but the door blocked her. Gently, she pushed Lou Anran.
“I was worried I wouldn’t get to see you.”
That was right. Xiao Ai only said they could not go outside after entering, but she never said people from outside could not come in.
Mo Ying tapped her forehead. “I’m such a fool.”
Lou Anran lowered her head and bit down on the girl’s moist, red lips. They were like a honeyed peach, so sweet that the first taste felt like sinking into a jar of syrup. Before she could take another bite, she was pushed away forcefully.
Mo Ying licked her lip, making them look even more tempting.
“Lou Xiaohei, you bit me.”
Seeing her confront her so confidently made Lou Anran delight in the girl’s innocence. It was clear that, before meeting her, Mo Ying had been like a blank canvas. That clumsy awkwardness from their last encounter had not been a game of seduction. It had been real.
From now on, she thought, all the colors on this canvas should be painted by her.
Lou Anran opened her arms with a smile and a welcoming pose.
“Of course. You can bite me back. I won’t resist.”
Mo Ying lunged forward without hesitation. Lou Anran caught her in another embrace, her fingers gently pressing into the girl’s slender waist.
A sudden sharp pain hit her lips. She had been bitten.
Mo Ying quickly pulled back and bared her teeth. Her voice was sweet but fierce.
“Lou Xiaohei, you’re not allowed to bite me.”
She bit without hesitation, completely unapologetic.
Lou Anran touched the spot where she had been bitten. Alongside the taste of bl00d was a stinging pain. The girl’s teeth were sharper than expected. That one bite had broken the skin.
Oddly enough, Lou Anran was not angry. She was actually pleased. She leaned in and kissed Mo Ying’s proud little face.
“That wasn’t a bite. That was a kiss.”
Then she offered her own cheek.
“Do you want to kiss me back?”
Mo Ying glanced at the room filled with drifting pink and purple streamers. Thanks to Lou Anran’s presence, her baby fish inside had plenty to feed on again.
She puckered her lips and planted a loud kiss on Lou Xiaohei’s cheek.
“There. I kissed you back. Lou Xiaohei, I want to talk to the baby fish. Will you join me?”
The bathtub was about the same size as the one in a standard hotel. It was just big enough for Mo Ying in mermaid form. Any more than that, and unless they used the same position as last time, it would be too cramped.
Lou Anran had taken many cold showers lately. Watching Mo Ying turn on the spray and let the cool water wash down from her head, she grew concerned.
“This water is different from seawater. Will it affect the baby fish?”
Mo Ying blinked and tilted her head, dodging the question.
“Lou Xiaohei, look. The baby fish is back.”
The strange pregnancy markings began to reappear. Lou Anran ignored the girl’s poor attempt at acting and gently placed her hand over them. She waited for a long while but could not feel the joyful movements from last time.
“The baby fish is very quiet today. Is she tired?”
Mo Ying was not tired. She had just changed to a new environment and resolved all the worries that had weighed on her.
Her dazzling fish tail flicked and slapped the water.
“She’s not tired. She’s full and sleepy. She’s a baby fish, after all.”
When she had been a baby fish herself, she had spent most of her time sleeping. So she understood her baby’s habits well.
Lou Anran thought about it and agreed. Before growing up, children needed lots of sleep and food to develop properly. As she considered how to improve their nutrition, her warm hand began gently stroking.
Unaware, her fingers slowly drifted lower. Just before they reached the golden scales, Mo Ying’s tail flicked upward like a whip, catching Lou Anran off guard.
“Hey, why did you hit me?”
“Lou Xiaohei, you’re bad.”
Lou Anran rubbed her reddened wrist.
“How am I bad? Haven’t I always shown up right when you need me?”
Mo Ying, for once, wasn’t bewitched. Her green eyes narrowed slightly with a scrutinizing look at the other, “Hmph, Lou Xiaohei, are you trying to mate with me?”
