Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 38
“Aaaah—”
The sharp, frantic scream that tore through the air was louder than Mo Ying’s quiet whimper. Song Yuan threw the mineral water bottle from her hand to the floor, where water spilled out across the ground. Her alluring peach blossom eyes widened in terror, as if she had witnessed something that shattered her mind. The already chaotic private room fell into further disarray. The crowd that had just gathered around Mo Ying recoiled in shock, a full meter back.
“Help, help me.”
“Save me.”
She clutched her slender neck with such force that her voice came out strained, as if something was caught in her throat. Her other hand dragged sharp nails across her skin, scratching downward from her throat and leaving terrifying red welts across her pale flesh.
“What’s wrong with her?”
“I saw her drink some water.”
Mo Ying, startled by the chaos, propped herself up halfway and glanced at Song Yuan. “Wow, she might need help more than I do.”
Wanqi Tianxin had been running around like a headless chicken. But the moment she turned around and saw Mo Ying’s gossipy expression, she froze. “Xiao Yu’er, your stomach… does it still hurt?”
Mo Ying’s round eyes widened. A second later, she flopped back down, pitifully muttering, “It still hurts a little.”
The room was a complete mess. Urgent footsteps echoed from outside. The girl who had quickly gone to get staff and medical help burst into the room and pointed to the corner where Mo Ying lay. “She’s—oh no, this one looks worse.”
“Move aside, don’t block the way.”
Song Yuan’s meticulously styled hair had come loose and now hung to the side. She looked possessed, not only having scratched her neck but also clawed her own face as well. When she saw the nurses, she collapsed to her knees and lunged toward them. “Save me, please, save me.”
The staff had clearly not anticipated such a sudden incident. Caught off guard, they were all stunned by the madness in Song Yuan’s expression.
Mo Ying was even more stunned. She trembled violently as she stared at the white-coated medics. She clutched Wanqi Tianxin’s wrist so tightly she nearly left bruises. “Doctor, Xiao Yu’er’s in a lot of pain. Please take her to the hospital.”
Wanqi Tianxin’s loud voice finally jolted the staff into action. They hurried to call for more help.
Mo Ying nearly shook her little fish head off. “I don’t want to go to the hospital. Tianxin, look, my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Wanqi Tianxin, seeing Mo Ying’s pale face drenched in sweat, assumed she must just have a fear of hospitals. “Don’t be scared, don’t be scared. We’ll go with you. Maybe you just ate something bad. Once the doctor checks you out, we’ll come right back.”
Oh dear.
Mo Ying let out a startled hiccup. “Tianxin, I really am fine now. See, my tummy doesn’t hurt.”
Just as she was about to lift her shirt to prove it, a slender jade-like hand reached over, gently holding hers. A familiar voice spoke with a low chuckle, “Don’t be afraid. It’s just a simple checkup, nothing scary.”
Mo Ying inhaled the familiar scent and heard the soft laugh. Her panic was instantly soothed, like a feather brushing her heart. She looked down to get a clearer view and quickly found a pair of smiling eyes behind a white coat and mask. “Lou Xiao—”
Lou Anran raised a finger to her lips with a soft “Shhh. Don’t be afraid. Come with me.”
All Mo Ying’s resistance melted away. “Okay.”
Wanqi Tianxin stared suspiciously at Lou Anran in the doctor’s coat, just about to ask if they knew each other. At that moment, Wu Si and Chen Ruiling rushed back after hearing something had happened. They brushed past the half-conscious and groaning Song Yuan and looked at each other in shock. “Who is that?”
Wanqi Tianxin saw Mo Ying being helped onto a stretcher and tried to follow, but was stopped by the staff. “We’re partly responsible for these two incidents. Considering everyone is still emotional, management has decided to move all of you to different rooms. Please come with me.”
“Xiao Yu’er, what’s wrong?”
“I’m fine,” Mo Ying said when she saw Wu Si and Chen Ruiling. She tried to sit up, but Lou Anran, acting as the head of the medical team, gently pressed her back down. “Lie still.”
Chen Ruiling glanced at Lou Anran in the white coat with surprise, then casually tugged on Wu Si’s sleeve to stop her from stepping forward. “Tianxin probably knows.”
“Where did you two disappear to? You were gone forever. You don’t know how scary things got just now,” Wanqi Tianxin grumbled as she squeezed back into the room. “Xiao Yu’er was clutching her stomach, white as a sheet, looking like she was about to throw up. I thought she had food poisoning.”
“She ate the same stuff we did,” Wu Si said, eyeing the others. “Probably even less than us. If anyone’s going to get food poisoning, it should be you.”
Wanqi Tianxin fell silent. “Maybe appendicitis? It’s not like she’s pregnant.”
The others, “…”
Chen Ruiling wasn’t in the mood for wild guesses. “I just saw her. Her face didn’t look as bad as you said. She’ll probably be okay.”
Wu Si agreed. Mo Ying’s face had looked normal. Her cheeks were still rosy and radiant, just like always. “Ah Rui’s right. Stop guessing. We’ll check on her later. Who was that other girl who got carried out first?”
“Song Yuan.”
…
All the way to the medical room, Mo Ying wrapped two fingers around Lou Anran’s. The gentle swaying of the stretcher almost rocked her to sleep until she heard Lou Anran say softly, “Leave her here. I’ve got it.”
Mo Ying blinked awake and stared up at the doctor, her eyes wide. Then she nervously scooted back. “Lou Xiaohei, are you going to dissect me?”
Lou Anran burst out laughing, nearly losing her breath. She removed her mask and teased, “Like sashimi?”
Mo Ying gasped. Even though she knew most of the scary stories Ye Moli told were probably made up, she couldn’t help but remember all those creepy doctor tales. Panic crept back in. “Sashimi is gross. If you’re hungry, I’ll find you something else to eat.”
Lou Anran’s lips curled into a smile. “But I just want to eat you.”
Mo Ying scooted back in fear, only to find there was nowhere left to go.
Lou Anran grabbed her ankle. Her palm felt the slight shiver in Mo Ying’s calf. With a mischievous grin, she leaned closer and planted a kiss on the girl’s flushed cheek. Her skin was soft and carried a faint, familiar scent, the same one she had remembered from their first meeting. It reminded her of the jelly from her childhood. “So fragrant.”
She kissed her other cheek too. “So sweet.”
Seeing that Mo Ying was still frozen, Lou Anran cupped her face and gently kissed her lips. Their teeth grazed, and with a final playful nip, she murmured, “Delicious.”
Mo Ying finally started to come back to herself under Lou Anran’s gentle kisses. She instinctively savored the lingering taste on her lips and looked at the floating purple ribbons around them. I think I finally understand what she meant by ‘eat me.’ She pouted. “Kiss me again. That gross feeling in my stomach goes away when you do.”
With such a clear invitation, Lou Anran naturally obliged. She cradled Mo Ying’s slender waist, leaned in slightly, and in that cramped medical room, they shared a slow and tender French kiss. The intimate warmth filled Mo Ying’s senses and soothed the nausea she had felt earlier. She wrapped her arms around Lou Anran and leaned back slightly. “Lou Xiaohei, you didn’t come see me last night.”
That sudden complaint carried a hint of hurt, and Lou Anran couldn’t help but smile. “But you didn’t come to see me for two days either. I’m your girlfriend. If you miss me, shouldn’t you reach out first?”
Mo Ying tilted her head. “I don’t have your number or your WeChat. Lou Xiaohei, are you really a doctor?”
Lou Anran paused for a few seconds, her expression slightly awkward. “So we really don’t have each other’s contacts. That’s not very girlfriend-like, is it? Should I be punished?”
Mo Ying patted her pockets, then puffed her cheeks in disappointment. “My phone got confiscated.”
Lou Anran was fascinated by how cleverly Mo Ying dodged the point. She felt like she was uncovering treasure, slowly getting drawn in more and more. She brushed her fingers through Mo Ying’s hair, touching a blue pendant that looked almost identical to the one she had given her. “Does your stomach really not hurt? Do you little mermaids have a special doctor? Should we call your Second Brother or Fourth Sister to come check on you?”
Mo Ying waved her hands quickly. “No need, no need. My tummy doesn’t hurt. I just ate something bad earlier, but once you kissed me, I felt better.”
Lou Anran couldn’t resist cupping her face and kissing her again. Their lips and tongues entwined, and things nearly got out of hand. When her hand slipped to Mo Ying’s belly, she snapped out of it and quickly pulled back the little mermaid who was melting in her arms. “Are you sure we don’t need your Fourth Sister? Maybe baby fish is acting up?”
Mo Ying licked her lips. “It wasn’t baby fish. It was Song Yuan.”
“What?”
Just then, her phone rang. The caller ID showed it was Chu Shu.
She answered, and Chu Shu’s voice came through. “Something’s not right. Boss, you should watch the footage yourself. I’ll forward it now.”
There had been a surveillance camera in the lounge. Lou Anran had appeared in time because she heard Mo Ying holding her stomach and crying in pain.
After ending the call, Lou Anran sat on the edge of the bed with the girl in her lap. Together, they watched the video. Everything looked normal until Song Yuan appeared. From that moment on, Lou Anran watched her every move. Song Yuan had always been on her blacklist.
She saw her pick up a bottle of water. Then, after drinking it, she lost control.
“The water. There’s something wrong with it.”
Mo Ying blinked, not understanding what was wrong with the water.
But Lou Anran continued watching closely. When Mo Ying lay down, her golden hair spread across the bed. A few strands brushed against the nearby bottles. Frame by frame, Lou Anran zoomed in.
She saw one strand of golden hair subtly hooking a bottle off the chair. The bottle rolled over and knocked the others together. In the end, there was no telling which was which.
With that realization, Lou Anran looked at the girl in her arms as if seeing her for the first time. Her heart thumped wildly, like a young girl falling in love for the first time. She stared at the girl’s glimmering eyes until Mo Ying finally turned off the video.
Lou Anran snapped out of it and cleared her throat. “Baby, your golden curls really are one of a kind.”
Mo Ying’s eyes curved into a smile. “Lou Xiaohei, you’re really pretty too.”
