Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 39
Lou Anran felt like she had picked up a treasure, a priceless gem. “So this golden hair of yours isn’t just for looking pretty. It has hidden talents too? Show me again.”
Mo Ying shook her little head. After being pestered several times, she was annoyed and slapped away Lou Anran’s hand that kept playing with her hair. “Lou Xiaohei, I’m fine now. Let’s go.”
Lou Anran wrapped her arms around her waist and casually patted the small fish inside her belly, muttering through clenched teeth, “Heartless girl. Using me and then running off? You haven’t done a single proper checkup yet. When your friends come by later, won’t your act be exposed?”
Mo Ying froze, squirming uneasily in Lou Anran’s arms. “But I really do feel fine now.”
Lou Anran pointed to the clip on her phone. “Just like this video. If someone else sees it, you’ll definitely get into trouble. If they find out you faked a stomachache, that’ll cause issues too. A harmless lie now and then benefits everyone, including you.”
Mo Ying blinked. “She struck first. Call the police. Let them deal with her.”
Lou Anran was amused by her serious tone. She couldn’t help pinching the girl’s soft cheek. “You actually thought of calling the police? If the officers get this footage, your little tricks won’t escape their eyes. You’ll have to visit the station too. How would you explain it then?”
Mo Ying fell silent.
Her simple fish-brain hadn’t thought that far ahead. Caught in a dilemma, she instinctively tugged Lou Anran’s sleeve. “Then, Lou Xiaohei, do you have a better idea?”
Lou Anran smiled slightly. “That’s why you need some finesse when handling things. For example, knowing there’s a camera and choosing to look a little vulnerable is smart. You did well this time. But it could be even better. Like here, you could’ve used your body to block the view, finished your move quietly, then turned back around…”
Mo Ying seemed thoughtful, then puffed out her cheeks. “Lou Xiaohei, actually, I used my hand to nudge those water bottles. I moved too fast for you to notice.”
Lou Anran nodded indulgently. “I know. I’ll let the police handle it. They’ll investigate the full truth. That’s the fairest way.”
With that, she sent a message to Chu Shu. A moment later, another video came in. The footage was almost identical to the last but a few seconds shorter. “Open it. Let’s see.”
Mo Ying did. She noticed some differences. Her little trick was gone. Her eyes widened in surprise. “Why is it different?”
Lou Anran pulled her into an embrace and explained in a low voice. “This incident has escalated. Song Yuan put something in the water bottles to harm your voices. Someone reported it to the police early on. Right now, our best move is to give them this footage. Don’t worry. I’m here.”
Mo Ying held the phone and finally understood. “Who called the police?”
Lou Anran sneered. “Someone who loves making my life difficult. What is it, little girlfriend? Are you worried about me?”
Mo Ying’s deep green eyes fixed on her. Suddenly, she leaned in and gave her two quick kisses on the cheek. Then she said firmly, “You are my little girlfriend. If anyone bullies you, just tell me. I’ll secretly beat them up for you.”
Lou Anran was stunned for a moment before laughing heartily. “That’s sweet of you. But violence doesn’t solve everything…”
She launched into a long-winded lesson on social maneuvering. Mo Ying nodded sleepily like a pecking chick and nearly dozed off. Seeing this, Lou Anran leaned close and asked softly, “Baby, did you finish your mark?”
Mo Ying’s sleepy eyes flew open. “Right. Let’s finish it now.”
Lou Anran opened her arms and let the girl do as she pleased. “Can you tell me what it looks like? Why can’t I see it at all?”
Mo Ying focused on her work, then grinned mischievously. “You’ll find out later.”
Knock, knock knock.
Wanqi Tianxin and the other two stood outside, whispering. “Is this the place? There’s no sign. Doesn’t look like a legit medical team. Did we get the wrong spot?”
Mo Ying heard them and even peeked toward the door. But since her mark wasn’t done, she turned back to finish it. Lou Anran, however, was quite amused. She poked Mo Ying’s cheek. “Your friends are here. Should I go open the door?”
Mo Ying said, “No. You’re my little girlfriend. You’re all exposed. You can’t let anyone else see.”
Knock, knock knock.
Wanqi Tianxin muttered, “Weird. Why is no one answering?”
Wu Si said, “Maybe it’s the wrong place?”
Chen Ruiling frowned in thought. “Let’s check elsewhere.”
After they left, Mo Ying’s unique mark was finally complete. Joyfully, she pressed her lips to sanitize it. “Lou Xiaohei, from now on, anyone who sees this mark will know you are my little girlfriend.”
Lou Anran loosened her collar and checked her chest where she felt a sting. There was nothing there but a saliva mark. “Your mark is invisible?”
Mo Ying blinked and even helped pull her clothes back together. “Lou Xiaohei, you’re all exposed. Hurry and get dressed.”
Lou Anran saw through the girl’s antics. “I only let you see. By the way, if the police ask you anything, just tell the truth.”
Mo Ying nodded but couldn’t help asking again, “Lou Xiaohei, are you really a doctor?”
Lou Anran straightened her clothes, hooked her finger under Mo Ying’s chin and gave her a kiss. “If you want, then yes. I’ll be your personal doctor.”
…
Song Yuan was still in the emergency ward. With police involvement, the show had to pause mid-filming. The furious director had no clue who the culprit was and found himself in the dark like an ordinary bystander.
Before airing, Sing for the Song 2 had already gone viral. Song Yuan’s situation trended across social media like a blazing red flag. Mo Ying and the others were called in for statements. Under the sympathetic gaze of a policewoman, Mo Ying answered every question with the honesty of a model student.
All evidence and testimonies pointed to Song Yuan. She had drugged the water and then fell victim to it herself. The whole thing resembled a twisted fairytale of karmic retribution.
Once the truth came out, everyone was shocked.
Wanqi Tianxin freaked out and stomped in disbelief. Grabbing Wu Si’s wrist, she cried out, “I already opened the bottle. I almost drank it. She’s beyond evil. Who thinks of something so vicious?”
Wu Si’s arm bore a nail mark but she didn’t scold her for once. “Escaping danger is a blessing. Your guard was down. This should teach you a lesson. Song Yuan never meant to apologize. She just lowered your defenses to strike.”
Chen Ruiling quietly glanced at the calm Mo Ying. “Blessing in disguise.”
Wu Si added, “Exactly. If Xiao Yu’er hadn’t suddenly felt sick, you’d be the one in the ER. Idiot.”
Wanqi Tianxin finally realized. “Ah, Xiao Yu’er, are you okay now?”
Mo Ying was still shaken by the police interview. She had sensed the malice in the water and in Song Yuan from the start, but she hadn’t imagined it would go this far. She sighed. “That was terrifying. Good thing she drank it herself.”
Wanqi Tianxin echoed, “Yes, yes. You’re my lucky star.”
Mo Ying nearly suffocated in her hug. Thanks to Wu Si and Chen Ruiling, she managed to break free. She thought to herself, Lou Xiaohei must be my lucky star. Without her, I’d be in jail.
Humans were terrifying.
Because of Song Yuan’s actions, even people who had disliked Mo Ying before began treating her with kindness. She noticed the shift in their gazes but had no idea why.
“Xiao Yu’er, good luck.”
“Do your best. You’ll definitely make it to Group A.”
“Xiao Yu’er, I believe in you.”
…
Wanqi Tianxin asked, “What’s wrong?”
Mo Ying glanced around. “Everyone’s looking at me weirdly.”
Wanqi Tianxin suddenly remembered. “Actually, there is something odd. That person who always clung to you hasn’t shown up in two days. Maybe she’s not going to perform anymore?”
The mention of Lou Annie made Mo Ying groan. “Better if she doesn’t come. Less trouble for Lou, wait, could she be the one who called the police yesterday?”
Now she understood why Lou Xiaohei had looked so disdainful.
Wu Si’s ears perked up. “What? Who called the police?”
Mo Ying shook her head and decided to let it go. “Doesn’t matter. Let’s warm up.”
Due to the poisoning incident, the show’s impact had spread quickly. Within a day, there was a new trending topic. Sing for the Song 2 had exploded in popularity before airing. Now, the competition rules would change. The next rounds would be recorded backstage, with audience votes counting toward elimination.
No one had expected the show’s launch to be triggered by the Song Yuan scandal.
In short, their first round would be released soon, and the next round would include votes from both viewers and mentors. This would make shady deals and fixed outcomes less likely.
“All her fault. I heard the first-day performers have to redo their routines.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. But the director invited a big-name guest to make it up to us. Someone famous internationally, an expert in jewelry and fashion.”
“As compensation?”
Mo Ying didn’t really care. Her goal was simple. Reach the finals and, if possible, snag the center spot.
Wanqi Tianxin found the name familiar. When she saw Ye Moli and Lou Annie arriving together, she elbowed Mo Ying. “Look. Your Third Brother. And that woman.”
Ye Moli smiled like a gentleman and politely held the door for Lou Annie.
Mo Ying covered her eyes in exasperation. “Ah, my little girlfriend is in danger.”
