Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 41
Lou Anran stood frozen for a few seconds before her expression turned subtly complicated. “Baby, you need evidence when you say things like this. You absolutely must not learn from scoundrels who fabricate stories without proof. Tell me, who has been whispering nonsense into your ear?”
Mo Ying’s eyes rolled once, filled with righteous confidence. “You found yourself a new girlfriend behind my back. And you chose one of my friends.”
That was exactly what all those cautionary tales warned about. You had to guard against fire, protect against thieves, and never let your guard down around your best friends.
But from what Lou Annie said, it sounded like something from Ah Rui and Lou Xiaohei’s past.
Mo Ying wasn’t so sure anymore. She had only heard half the story, and her third brother had interrupted the rest.
Seeing Mo Ying’s uncertain expression, Lou Anran simply pulled the indignant little one back into her arms and held her tightly. She was used to this soft little body curled up against her. Without it, something felt hollow, like she had lost something important. “Thinking alone is useless. It’s better to think together. When did I ever gain a girlfriend without knowing about it? Do you care that much?”
Mo Ying’s voice faltered. “Of course I do. You are my girlfriend.”
The kind she had already marked.
Lou Anran chuckled softly beside her ear. Mo Ying’s ears flushed red from the teasing, and she quickly covered them with her hands. Lou Anran, unhurried and amused, asked, “Then tell me, who is this mysterious girlfriend of mine? If you guess wrong, I won’t let you off so easily.”
Mo Ying grew even more uncertain. “I don’t care. Lou Xiaohei, you agreed to be my girlfriend. That means you can’t go behind my back and find someone else. That would make you a scumbag. Do you understand?”
Lou Anran’s smile grew wider. She was thoroughly entertained. “Yes, yes, you’re right, baby. But this is such an injustice. I don’t even know about this supposed girlfriend aside from you.”
Mo Ying pouted. “It’s Ah Rui. Lou Annie said you should treat her better. And now you’re trying to deny it?”
Lou Anran looked puzzled. “Ah Rui? Who is Ah Rui? You’d rather believe Lou Annie’s nonsense than trust your own girlfriend?”
Seeing Lou Anran’s expression suddenly dim, Mo Ying felt troubled. She really didn’t know whom to believe anymore. She regretted not playing dumb from the start.
Lou Anran asked with an aggrieved look, “Did you actually see me sneaking off to date this Ah Rui behind your back?”
Mo Ying shook her head.
Lou Anran always came and went unpredictably. Mo Ying only saw her at night. And now that she thought about it, Chen Ruiling had never done anything suspicious behind their backs either… Maybe she had really misunderstood Lou Xiaohei.
Lou Anran asked again, “Then who is the mother of your baby fish? Is it Lou Annie?”
Mo Ying was shocked, her voice rising. “Of course not. It’s you. It’s you, Lou Xiaohei. I’ve said it so many times.”
Lou Anran realized she had upset the little one and gently stroked Mo Ying’s flat belly. It was amazing that even after three months, her baby fish showed no sign of a bump. “Then why won’t you believe me? I am your rightful girlfriend.”
Mo Ying’s little fish brain had been completely spun in circles by Lou Anran’s words. Stars sparkled before her eyes. Whatever Lou Anran said after that, Mo Ying could only respond with a single word. Yes.
Lou Anran was very pleased with this result. She spoke softly and patiently into Mo Ying’s ear. “Baby, remember this. Aside from your fourth sister and third brother, I am the person most deeply connected to you. I would never hurt you. I would never lie to you. You should trust me unconditionally, just like you trust your fourth sister and the others. You shouldn’t doubt me. That hurts me deeply. I feel heartbroken.”
Mo Ying couldn’t argue back. Lou Xiaohei made too much sense. “Then I’ll help you feel better.”
Lou Anran caught her small hand and placed it over her pounding heart, shamelessly demanding, “But I need your kisses to heal my wounded little heart.”
Mo Ying immediately hugged Lou Anran and showered her cheeks with kisses on the left and right. Then came a long, passionate French kiss. The room was filled with wet sounds, and the narrow space was steeped in heat and intimacy, wrapping tightly around them.
Eventually, Mo Ying fell asleep in Lou Anran’s arms, completely at peace.
Lou Anran stroked her gentle long hair and murmured, “Ah Rui…”
…
Lou Annie had been having a terrible time lately. In the restroom, she had been locked in a stall with no one responding to her cries. Once, she had been tricked into entering an empty storage room, only to be left there for an entire day and night before a staff member found her.
These incidents all began after Ye Moli’s so-called confession.
The more tender Ye Moli acted toward her, the more miserable her life became. Women who greeted her with sweet smiles now seemed like wolves in sheep’s clothing, ready to bare their fangs around the next corner.
Lou Annie scraped at the wall’s surface. “This is beyond pathetic.”
At home, she had been relentlessly suppressed by Lou Anran. She could chalk it up to that woman being too cunning and ruthless. Yet even here at the talent show, things still went wrong. Her life was cursed.
She had shamelessly asked Yu Xuan for help. Yu Xuan had coldly replied, “I brought you to this filming site, not to watch you get cozy with other men. Did you forget the promise you made to me?”
And she really had forgotten. Since that little beauty had been so indifferent, she hadn’t bothered chasing after her. They each lived their own lives. Wouldn’t that be better?
Yet clearly, without Mo Ying around, Yu Xuan showed her no kindness at all. This detestable yet brutally honest triangle.
“Little beau—” She almost bit her tongue when she saw the woman step out from the villa. Her eyes widened as she stared at Lou Anran, and her greeting forced its way out through gritted teeth. “What are you doing here?”
Lou Anran looked equally surprised. Her good mood was instantly ruined. “I remember this villa is reserved for high-ranking trainees. Did you really think the little charm you inherited from your mother qualifies you to stay here?”
“Lou Anran!”
“Already losing your temper?” Lou Anran turned around and spotted her little one peeking around the doorway like a curious kitten. She couldn’t help but chuckle. Her mood lifted again for no reason.
Lou Annie hated that fake, superior act the most. She nearly exploded. “We should let Dad see your ugly face and realize you intercepted two million worth of business orders meant for me. You set up a fake company to lure me in, just to get me kicked out of the board.”
Lou Anran remained calm. “If you can’t handle the work, don’t take it on. Blaming others for your failures won’t help. Do you think our father will let you return to the board if he sees how you still make excuses and chase after these activities?”
Lou Annie gave up all pretense. She had nothing left to lose. “Go ahead and report me to Dad. You’ve always schemed behind my back. I’m not afraid of you. I’ll stay right here. Not only that, I’m going to debut. Just to spite you.”
Lou Anran looked truly surprised. “You want to debut?”
Lou Annie grinned with gritted teeth. “That’s right. Thanks to you, I found a new path. And I don’t believe—”
She stopped mid-sentence. Lou Anran had pulled out her phone and made a call. “Why is Lou Annie here? I don’t want to see her. Remove her from the semifinal list. I’ll handle the rest.”
She spread her hands toward Lou Annie, who stood frozen in shock. “Almost forgot to tell you. I recently invested in a new project. As you can see, I have the authority to eliminate anyone I dislike.”
Lou Annie was speechless.
She had joined Sing for the Song 2 because of Yu Xuan’s generous offer. Her career had hit rock bottom, and her father had ordered her to stay home. So she joined this show just to pass the time. But now that she had been bullied so hard, she actually wanted to fight back. That burst of determination was quickly extinguished when she ran into Lou Anran.
Lou Anran left with the poise of a victor. She looked back and regretted ever considering Lou Annie her rival. She had wasted far too much time.
She would rather spend that time making her little one happy.
Lou Annie stared after her. “Lou Anran, do you hate me that much? Just because I secretly went to see your mother when I was a child—”
Lou Anran stopped mid-step. “Shut up.”
Lou Annie went on. “So you’re still holding a grudge over something from our childhood. But don’t forget. You were the one who caused my mother’s death. If it weren’t for you, she would have married honorably—”
Mo Ying had been watching the confrontation from a distance. The color bands around her turned black and red. A foul stench filled the air. Unable to bear it, she ran out and grabbed Lou Anran’s wrist. “Lou Xiaohei, don’t be like this. I feel really sick.”
Lou Anran snapped back to herself at the touch of Mo Ying’s cold hand. “Where do you feel unwell? I’ll get a doctor.”
Mo Ying frowned. “Aren’t you my personal doctor? All I need is your kiss to make it better.”
Lou Anran could not immediately understand Mo Ying’s condition. But the little one had already stood on tiptoe with her lips slightly puckered. Naturally, all Lou Anran could do was lean down and place a gentle kiss at the corner of those soft, damp lips. “Feeling any better now?”
Mo Ying smacked her lips. The nauseating, fishy taste she had accidentally inhaled was partly masked by Lou Anran’s kiss, though a trace of the flavor lingered. “I need a couple more kisses.”
Lou Anran suspected the little one might be playing a trick on her. Even so, the irritation that had been simmering in her chest was soothed by Mo Ying’s gentle attempt to coax her, leaving not the slightest trace behind. “Do you feel better now? Should I call your fourth sister?”
Mo Ying shook her head firmly. “My fourth sister would not help right now. What I need is you.”
When Lou Anran met Mo Ying’s clear and sincere green eyes, her heart skipped a beat. That uneasy flutter felt both strangely familiar and deeply unsettling. She could not stop herself from pulling Mo Ying into her arms to comfort her. “Don’t scare me like that. How do you feel now?”
Mo Ying lightly patted her back. “Lou Xiaohei, can you stop throwing tantrums? When you get angry, it makes me uneasy. I do not like it, and neither does baby fish.”
Lou Anran could not completely make sense of the little one’s muttering, but she figured Mo Ying must have been frightened by what had happened earlier. “Alright.”
Lou Annie stood frozen in place. If she had not seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed how intimate the two of them were. It was as though no one else existed in their world. “You two—”
Only then did Mo Ying remember the unwanted presence nearby. She bared her teeth and warned in a childishly fierce voice, “If you dare tell anyone about me and Lou Xiaohei, I will bite you to death.”
Lou Anran quickly covered the little one’s mouth. “No. You can only bite me.”
Lou Annie had just been force-fed a heavy dose of dog food. The sweetness was so overwhelming that it stunned her into forgetting all the grudges she had held.
Mo Ying asked, “Then what should we do?”
Lou Anran gently reassured her. “Don’t worry. I’ve already kicked her out. She won’t be hovering around and bothering you anymore.”
That only made things worse. Lou Annie instantly recalled her earlier humiliation and the suffocating frustration it brought. “Lou Anran, if you dare kick me out, I’ll tell Grandpa everything about you and this little seductress. Let’s see how you explain that.”
Lou Anran gave her a sideways glance, as if she were staring at a complete fool. “Then I should thank you. If Grandpa asks, I’ll finally have the chance to take my darling home.”
Mo Ying blinked up at her. “Why are you taking me home?”
Lou Anran immediately turned her full attention to Mo Ying. “To take you home, of course. I want to bring my future wife to meet my family.”
Mo Ying did not quite understand this human notion of bl00d ties. She swayed her head a little before remembering. “Lou Xiaohei, I’m already fine. Didn’t you say you had to go to work?”
Lou Anran responded with a soft hum, though her thoughts were fully occupied with when she should gather Mo Ying’s remarkable family members for a proper conversation about baby fish.
This uncertain feeling left her uneasy, especially in light of Mo Ying’s sudden discomfort. Back during the Song Yuan incident, Mo Ying had abruptly complained of stomach pain and nearly frightened her half to death.
The physiology of mermaids might be vastly different from that of humans. Calling a doctor might not do any good, and the little one clearly had a strong dislike for hospitals. It seemed she was entirely afraid of medical professionals.
With these concerns weighing on her mind, Lou Anran accompanied Mo Ying to the recording venue. Only after watching her cheerful little one skip inside did she slowly turn to leave.
Lou Annie had been secretly following them the whole time. Like a voyeur, she kept her distance while tailing them. When she tried to see Mo Ying again, she was shut out once more. The lovely little beauty, who acted sweet and affectionate only toward Lou Anran, gave Lou Annie nothing but cold, disdainful looks, as if she were a bothersome fly.
Frustrated, Lou Annie furiously gave up all decorum and called Yu Xuan.
“You once promised I would make it to the end. But with just one word from Lou Anran, my spot was gone. Between the two of you, who actually makes the decisions?”
“What did you say?”
“Since that’s how it is, I don’t need to fulfill the promise of sharing a room with Mo Ying. Whether I debut or not doesn’t matter anymore. Handle it however you like.”
Without waiting for Yu Xuan’s reply, she ended the call.
Yu Xuan, enraged, slammed her phone down. “Useless. Both from the Lou family, but the difference is outrageous.”
No wonder her little one could not stand her.
Although anger surged within her, Yu Xuan knew the matter still had to be handled. Just thinking about Lou Anran’s sharp tongue made her jaw tense. After pacing around her studio several times, she finally drove to the filming location.
She confronted Lou Annie first. “Why did you provoke Lou Anran without any reason? Were you just bored with nothing better to do?”
Lou Annie responded indignantly, “You never told me that Mo Ying and Lou Anran were involved. You kept pleading with me from both sides. But your true intentions were incredibly malicious.”
Yu Xuan narrowed her eyes. “You saw them together?”
Lou Annie gestured toward her eyes. “Clear as day. Everything. We agreed I would share a room with Mo Ying and that nothing would happen. But now, they are flaunting their affection openly, and I am supposed to throw myself at her? In the end, people will think I’m the third party.”
There was nothing Lou Annie hated more than being labeled a homewrecker. She would rather stay single her entire life than follow in her mother’s footsteps.
Yu Xuan rubbed her temples. “What homewrecker? You are the original match. You should fight for your place.”
Lou Annie rolled her eyes. “Please. What is there to fight for? Mo Ying and I are innocent. I’ve told you that at least eight hundred times. And another thing,” she added with a sneer, “ever since I arrived at this filming site, I’ve hardly spent any time alone with Mo Ying. My cold-hearted sister is already kicking me out, so let me be honest. From the beginning, it was Lou Anran who had her eye on the little beauty. Not me.”
Yu Xuan paused, her expression stiffening. “You said you never shared a room with Xiao Wu?”
Lou Annie shrugged casually. “If you count being in the same room with several others, then yes.”
Yu Xuan pressed more seriously, “I need a clear answer. Have you spent more than five hours a day in the same room with her?”
Lou Annie answered, “Every day? Unlikely. I missed the first two days because of a car accident. The gentleman behind you can confirm that. He’s the one who crashed into me.”
Ye Moli stepped out from behind the tree, perfectly at ease. “Your conversation was loud enough to follow. I was drawn over by the elegance of your voice.”
Lou Annie scoffed. “Whatever. I’m done with this. Find someone else.”
Without another word, she turned and left, ignoring Yu Xuan’s dumbfounded face.
Yu Xuan clenched her teeth. “Ye Moli, I think I’ve made a terrible mistake.”
Ye Moli asked, “What mistake?”
Yu Xuan retraced her thoughts and felt like she had been misled in endless circles. “If Lou Annie isn’t the one who got Xiao Wu pregnant, then who is?”
Ye Moli replied, “Isn’t Lou Annie Lou Xiaohei?”
Yu Xuan snapped, “Of course not. Who told you Lou Annie is Lou Xiaohei? It’s clearly—”
Ni Xinyu. Lou Annie. Lou Anran.
The names swirled through Yu Xuan’s mind until she clenched her molars and growled through her teeth. “Lou. An. Ran.”
