Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 50
When Zhou Jewelry’s official account noticed Ye Moli had reposted the video, they enthusiastically joined the buzz. They tagged Mo Ying’s only Weibo post, which stood rather pitifully on its own, and released a visually stunning video from the time she had been roped in as a model for Mermaid Tears jewelry.
In the video, Mo Ying appeared like Snow White, dazzling everyone in the room. The Mermaid Tears jewelry she wore shimmered like stardust. The piece’s staggering price had already stirred up plenty of chatter, and now it drew even more envy from a sea of fans.
For a brief moment, hashtags such as #XiaoYuerRepresentsMermaidTears, #MoYingUsedToBeLivestreamQueen, and #GoddessReturns surged on social media. The excitement nearly caught up to the trending topic about Su Bai becoming a new mentor on the show. However, it was soon overtaken by newer rumors and entertainment gossip.
Other trending topics like #SongYuanScenesCut and #YeMoliJoinsSingForTheSong quickly rose in popularity.
Su Bai was currently one of the most popular male singers. He was best known for his deep and soothing love ballads that often moved audiences to tears. His devoted fanbase adored him.
His sudden appearance on Sing for the Song Season 2 gave the show a significant boost in ratings. It even managed to surpass the viewership numbers from the first season.
At this stage, Lou Anran’s investment in the program no longer seemed like a complete loss. However, the final results still hinged on how audiences would respond to the upcoming episodes.
Mo Ying had enjoyed a sugary, blissful day of dating and arrived at the filming site in high spirits. She was the last to show up. When she pushed open the door, she saw Ye Moli and the crew carefully examining a dazzling array of stones, each one secured inside glass cases that made the room look like a jewelry exhibition.
Ye Moli stood with his back to her, speaking quietly to the staff.
“Xiao Yu’er, over here.”
“Oh.”
Mo Ying moved to her usual middle seat, with Lingling on one side and Wanqi Tianxin on the other. Before she could even sit down properly, Wanqi Tianxin leaned in.
“I followed you, so why haven’t you followed me back?”
Mo Ying blinked, still floating in a cloud of happiness. “Xinxin, I don’t have the account.”
When Ni Xinyu initially took the account back, she had never returned it. It was probably being managed by Xiao Ai now.
Wanqi Tianxin, satisfied with that explanation, bumped shoulders with her. “If you ever get rich and famous, don’t forget me. Follow me back.”
Mo Ying nodded eagerly like a pecking chick, not even catching what she had agreed to. Just then, the staff left the room, and Ye Moli began his lesson.
His humorous and engaging style turned what should have been a dry jewelry-identification class into an entertaining lecture. The students were drawn in, laughing despite themselves, one by one falling under his spell.
“Why isn’t Sisi here?”
“Sigh. No idea.”
“Hold on.”
Once the jewelry class ended, everyone lingered around Ye Moli, asking questions under various pretexts. Mo Ying, half-distracted, drifted through the crowd. Afterward came a dance class, and the morning passed quickly with a sense of busy contentment.
By lunch, their trio barely touched the extra food. While they poked at their phones, a girl with thick glasses walked up to them.
“Hi, I’m Wei Qing. Can I join your Girl group?”
Mo Ying looked baffled. She glanced at Wanqi and Lingling, who both had sour expressions.
“Why do you want to join us?”
She remembered Wei Qing had great vocal talent, but dancing was not her strength. If she did not overcome that weakness before the semifinals, she would likely be eliminated.
Wei Qing pushed up her glasses. “You’re one member short. I think I can keep up with your rhythm.”
Other students perked up their ears and turned their attention to Mo Ying’s group. Ever since the first episode aired, they all knew Mo Ying had the best shot at making it to the finals. Naturally, her team had become a hot commodity.
Chen Ruiling replied, “Sorry, we’re not missing anyone.”
Wanqi Tianxin flared up. Her voice rose. “The four of us are already used to each other. We don’t need someone barging in. Go find a different group.”
Wei Qing stayed calm. “You do realize Wu Si has quit, right? She packed up and left. You only have three members left. Are you sure about this?”
Wanqi Tianxin snapped, “Who told you Wu Si quit?”
Wei Qing answered, “Lots of people saw it.”
The three girls immediately dropped their chopsticks and rushed to Wu Si’s old room. It was spotless, as if no one had ever lived there. They called her repeatedly, but no one answered. Eventually, the phone went straight to voicemail.
“Damn it.”
“She seemed off lately. I thought she’d bounce back soon,” said Chen Ruiling, leaning against the wall. “Why would she suddenly give up?”
“Sisi was upset about something,” Mo Ying sighed. She still didn’t know what had gotten to her. “How can we help her?”
This kind of emotional support was not Mo Ying’s strong suit. She looked hopefully to her friends, but an image of Lou Anran’s calm and lazy demeanor popped into her head.
If only Lou Xiaohei were here. She’d have a way.
Mo Ying sneakily turned away and sent a message to her little girlfriend.
“Lou Xiaohei, I have a little problem. Can you help me?”
“CuteTrouble.JPG”
“Tell me about it.”
Mo Ying typed out the situation with typos flying everywhere, but eventually, she managed to explain everything to Lou Anran.
Less than three minutes later, Lou Anran replied with an unfamiliar address, complete with a street number. Mo Ying realized a moment too late that it must be the place where Wu Si was staying.
“I don’t even know where Sisi lives. Her phone’s off…”
“I do.”
…
Wanqi Tianxin found it incredibly suspicious that Mo Ying had Wu Si’s contact details and address. She kept interrogating her all the way there until Mo Ying finally snapped.
“My little girlfr—”
“Cough, cough, cough,” Chen Ruiling interrupted.
Mo Ying noticed her coughing and handed over a water bottle. “Lingling, are you getting a fever? Remember to take medicine.”
Chen Ruiling nearly choked. “No. Driver, how much longer until we arrive?”
The taxi driver hummed along to a cheerful tune as he checked the GPS. “About three kilometers. Not far now. You girls look like students. Why are you heading somewhere so remote? No school today?”
Wanqi Tianxin chuckled and exchanged glances with the others. They had petite frames and had changed into casual clothes before leaving, which did make them look like college kids.
“Sir, what makes you say it’s remote? You go there often?”
Thanks to the driver’s chatter, Wanqi Tianxin forgot to continue grilling Mo Ying.
When the three of them arrived, they passed a massive garbage dump that stank to high heaven. Flies buzzed loudly in the air. Mo Ying puffed her cheeks in disgust, looking ready to throw hands.
“Xiao Yu’er, what are you staring at? This place reeks.”
“Sisi lives nearby.”
They asked around until they found the right house number. It was a shabby little courtyard with a locked gate. The weeds outside reached their ankles. Wanqi Tianxin called out loudly for a long time, drawing puzzled looks from passersby.
“Hey there, sir! Do you know where the people living here went?”
“Who are you all?”
“We’re Wu Si’s friends.”
“Oh, so you’re Sisi’s friends. Her grandma fell the other day and got hospitalized. Poor thing.”
The man’s cryptic sigh left the girls confused. After some digging, they finally learned about Wu Si’s chaotic home life. Her father was a gambling addict, and her mother had run off with another man when she was three. Her family’s savings had all gone to feed her father’s addiction. Her grandfather had literally died from the stress, leaving only her and her grandmother.
Wu Si never finished college. She had hoped to debut through Sing for the Song Season 2 and earn money to support her grandmother.
But a few days ago, her gambler father came back and stole the last of their savings. Her grandmother chased after him and fell, suffering a stroke. The hospital fees were crushing, and the sudden critical condition notice had been the final straw.
“Ah—”
“Why didn’t she tell us?”
Mo Ying hesitated. “Should we go to the hospital?”
They asked three people, but no one knew which hospital the old woman was in. They waited outside until nightfall, but Wu Si never came back. Eventually, they had to return.
Wanqi Tianxin stayed quiet for a long while. “You both have class tomorrow. I’ll take the day off and check each hospital. I should be able to find her.”
Chen Ruiling asked coldly, “And then what?”
Wanqi Tianxin scowled at her tone. “I’ll convince her to come back. We’re already in the semifinals. She can’t just walk away.”
“If Sisi isn’t answering our calls, she’s made up her mind. Do you really think a few words will bring her back?”
“What else can we do? Just let her vanish? Could you show a little compassion? If you don’t want to help, I’ll go alone. Don’t bother with Sisi’s business from now on.”
“Could you stop being so childish?”
Mo Ying sat quietly between them, caught in the crossfire. She did not even understand why they were fighting so fiercely. They had been getting along just fine a moment ago. She was about to speak up when she got cut off, so after a few minutes, she just pulled out her phone and messaged her girlfriend again.
“Lou Xiaohei, I miss you.”
“Sadness.JPG”
Lou Anran, sensing the melancholy seeping through her screen, let out a soft chuckle.
“Chu Shu, look into why a contestant named Wu Si didn’t show up. My baby seems quite concerned.”
Chu Shu could not help but mutter, “She said it was family issues and she’s not joining the semifinals. Honestly, coming and going as she pleases, what a diva.”
Lou Anran replied, “Dig deeper. I don’t want my baby worried.”
“…Alright.”
With one member missing and a fresh fight between Wanqi Tianxin and Chen Ruiling, no one spoke to each other. The once lively four-person team had turned into invisible wallpaper in class.
Wanqi Tianxin spent two days searching hospitals but could not find Wu Si or her grandmother.
Meanwhile, other teams had started preparing for the semifinals. Mo Ying and Chen Ruiling just stared at each other and sighed.
Chen Ruiling hesitated. “Xiao Yu’er, maybe you should ask Lou Anran.”
Mo Ying froze. “Huh?”
Chen Ruiling blushed and coughed. “Aren’t you two dating? If you pout or act cute, she might help Sisi. If I ask, she’ll probably refuse.”
“Why would she?”
“Just try, will you?”
Burdened by the weight of a great mission, Mo Ying stepped into her room and began rummaging through her clothes. None of them seemed revealing enough. She made a mental note to ask her second brother to make her something sexier next time.
After some effort, she chose a backless top, then flopped onto the sofa with her legs swinging, waiting for Lou Anran to come home.
Her niece had exaggerated, but she still believed Lou Xiaohei would help. Lou Xiaohei was her helpful little girlfriend, after all.
Lou Anran came home later than expected. By then, Mo Ying was almost asleep. If one checked the time, it was already past midnight. The entire villa was silent.
“Lou Xiaohei.”
“Baby, why are you lying on the sofa?”
When Lou Anran turned on the light, she was met with a breathtaking sight. Mo Ying’s smooth, pale back led down to a shimmering golden fishtail. Her head rested sideways in a teasing pose. The straps of her top slipped slowly off her shoulders, leaving plenty for the imagination.
