Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 53
That unforgettable, fiery red figure descended halfway as a lively dance beat suddenly filled the entire hall. Yu Xuan gripped two trailing white silk ribbons and spun midair with effortless grace. Her lips curled into a devilish smile as the crowd erupted in gasps.
With a loud thud, she landed in a perfect crouch. Her long hair whipped back, revealing her stunning face on the giant screen. Her skin was flawless, her lashes long, and those star-like eyes beamed straight into everyone’s soul.
The momentary pause was instantly shattered by a wave of high-pitched screams that threatened to shake the building. Mo Ying stared at the sea of fluttering red ribbons, stunned by the impact of her Fourth Sister’s appearance. It surpassed even the concert she had attended before.
Her Fourth Sister would never worry about food again.
“Ahhh! Yu Xuan! I’m seeing her in the flesh!”
“Yu Meiren!”
Mo Ying’s eardrums were also greeted by the chaos of the room. She glanced down at her wrist, which was being crushed. With a small whine, she said, “Xinxin, can you squeeze your own wrist instead?”
Wanqi Tianxin was either too excited or simply didn’t hear her. She clung tighter to Mo Ying’s arm. “I can’t believe it. The director is incredible, actually bringing Yu Meiren here. Xiao Yu’er, pinch me. Am I dreaming?”
Before Mo Ying could respond, Chen Ruiling stepped in, grabbed the soft flesh inside Wanqi Tianxin’s wrist, and gave it a hard 365-degree twist.
“Awake yet? If not, I can keep going.”
Wanqi Tianxin yelped in pain, quickly surrendering. “I’m awake! Thank you, Ah Rui, for your loving touch.” She turned her gaze back to the screen, her eyes sparkling with admiration once more. “Getting to see Yu Meiren every day from now on… This is too much happiness.”
Many in the room shared her joy, speaking in breathless awe. But next to her, the reactions were split. One girl remained expressionless. The other moved her lips silently. Wanqi Tianxin knew Chen Ruiling rarely showed emotion but Mo Ying’s conflicted expression was odd.
“Xiao Yu’er, aren’t you Yu Meiren’s biggest fan? Why don’t you look excited to see your idol?”
Mo Ying looked like she was carrying the weight of the world. “I am happy.”
She just feared her Fourth Sister might discover the truth about Lou Xiaohei. Then she would be in real trouble.
By the time Yu Xuan’s performance ended, Mo Ying had already come up with several escape plans involving Lou Xiaohei.
Wanqi Tianxin chuckled awkwardly. “You sound like someone being forced at gunpoint. I’m starting to suspect that back when you and Sisi—” At the mention of Wu Si, her words abruptly stopped. The joy in her eyes faded into sorrow.
Chen Ruiling glanced at them. “If she were still here, she’d be the first to rush up for Yu Meiren’s autograph.”
Yu Xuan had debuted long ago and earned her queenly status. Because of her fame, she rarely appeared in such settings outside of concerts. Getting an autograph from her was next to impossible. No one had expected her to show up for the recording of Sing for the Song.
It truly was a miracle.
This unexpected twist added excitement, but soon the semifinals resumed. Each of the three girls had worries, and none of them could focus on the performance on screen.
Wanqi Tianxin stared in silence for thirty minutes before finally whispering, “Do you think… If, and I mean if…”
Mo Ying and Chen Ruiling turned to her in sync.
Frustrated, Wanqi Tianxin scratched her head. “Isn’t it said that the power of idols is boundless? Could Sisi maybe, just maybe, be moved by Yu Meiren’s presence to return to the competition?”
Mo Ying chewed thoughtfully while considering the odds.
Chen Ruiling instinctively looked at Mo Ying. Using the power of an idol to sway Wu Si’s decision seemed unlikely. Wu Si was known for her strong will. Her departure had been carefully considered, weighing pros and cons.
Could Yu Xuan really change her mind?
Chen Ruiling suggested, “We can try.”
Wanqi Tianxin asked Mo Ying, “Xiao Yu’er, what do you think?”
Mo Ying blinked and cut straight to the point. “If we bring Fourth… if we bring Yu Xuan to see Sisi, will she definitely change her mind?”
Wanqi Tianxin replied, “Not necessarily, but even a one-in-ten-thousand chance is worth trying.”
The idea sounded simple but was far from easy. Even if Yu Xuan’s presence could persuade Wu Si to return, getting her to visit the hospital was already a far-fetched task. Yu Xuan’s status was leagues beyond theirs.
Wanqi Tianxin felt her headache grow just thinking about being rejected before even starting.
Chen Ruiling observed her shifting expressions. “The real question is, who will convince the queen herself?”
They looked at one another until Mo Ying raised her small hand. “I can.”
Chen Ruiling arched a brow, and Wanqi Tianxin quickly asked, “Xiao Yu’er, how do you plan to approach Yu Meiren? Don’t be fooled by her sweet singing. Her personality is just like her looks.”
Mo Ying blinked, confused. “???”
Wanqi Tianxin whispered, “She’s got bite.”
Recalling her Fourth Sister’s fiery temper, Mo Ying nodded in agreement. That bite was indeed quite fierce.
Chen Ruiling grabbed Wanqi Tianxin, who was about to dig deeper. “Don’t ask. One more question and this job goes to you.”
Wanqi Tianxin immediately fell silent.
After the day’s competition ended, the girls stayed backstage, encouraging Mo Ying to wait. Wanqi Tianxin nervously paced before offering encouragement. “Don’t be scared, Xiao Yu’er. Go bravely. If Yu Meiren refuses, don’t get discouraged. One failure means nothing. If you fail, I’ll go next. If I fail, Ah Rui will try. We’ll take turns.”
They hoped that by reasoning and appealing emotionally, they might move Yu Meiren’s heart.
Yu Xuan and Zhuang Yun had just finished their post-performance evaluations when Su Bai approached Yu Xuan. “Miss Yu.”
As a senior in the industry, Yu Xuan was deserving of such a title. She smiled politely, but her patience wore thin. If it weren’t for the trouble she had caused Lou Anran last time, she never would have agreed to join the show as a mentor. Still, since she was here, she decided to go along with it. “What is it?”
Su Bai waited until Zhuang Yun and Dong Yue had left before quickly pulling out his music sheet. “Miss Yu, I’m a huge fan. May I have your autograph?”
Even Mo Ying and her friends hiding backstage were stunned. Wanqi Tianxin exclaimed, “Su Bai is Yu Meiren’s fan? Wow, he’s never mentioned that before.”
Yu Xuan graciously signed. Then Su Bai asked her out to dinner, but she turned him down.
Wanqi Tianxin’s eyes gleamed with gossip. “The prince dreams of the goddess, but she remains indifferent. Su Bai, it’s time to give up.”
Chen Ruiling smacked her. “Stop talking nonsense.”
Mo Ying, completely lost, could not understand how dinner and ancient legends got mixed together.
When Yu Xuan finished and headed their way, Chen Ruiling dragged Wanqi Tianxin away, leaving Mo Ying behind.
As soon as Yu Xuan saw her, she threw an arm around her shoulders. “Xiao Wu, surprised to see your Fourth Sister as a mentor?”
After jewelry lessons with Third Brother Ye Moli and now Yu Xuan showing up as a mentor, Mo Ying was more shocked than delighted. She cast a quick glance at Su Bai, who gave her a gentle nod.
Only once they had walked some distance did Mo Ying quietly explain their plan. “Fourth Sister, you’ll help me, right?”
To Yu Xuan, this was no big deal. Just a quick visit and a few words with a fan. Easier than grabbing dinner. But she was more curious about Mo Ying’s anxious expression. “Xiao Wu, you never used to care about these things. And if Wu Si’s situation is really as you say, couldn’t you just give her a pearl and solve everything?”
Mo Ying sighed. “I already gave her something.”
It was not a pearl, but her live-streaming savings.
Yu Xuan was surprised. “She turned it down? Seems like your friend Wu Si has quite a personality.”
Mo Ying had adjusted to this world and figured most people here liked money. She had transferred all her savings to Wu Si. It wasn’t a huge sum but enough to fix her problems. Yet Wu Si had firmly refused.
“Fourth Sister, is there any way to bring Sisi back to the competition?”
Yu Xuan met her sister’s hopeful eyes. “So if she doesn’t come back, you won’t make it to the finals?”
Mo Ying replied, “That’s not it. I just… I just—” She recalled Wu Si’s decision at the hospital. Her chest tightened, like being crushed under a small whale shark. It hurt. But it also felt like something was missing.
She kept replaying that suffocating moment.
“Fourth Sister, I feel kind of sad.”
Yu Xuan froze. She gently held Mo Ying’s shoulders and studied her face. “Xiao Wu, look at me. Are you so sad you could cry? If Wu Si never comes back, would it make you cry?”
Mo Ying first thought of the days Lou Xiaohei had disappeared. That had felt worse than sadness. Her eyes shimmered with gold. Tears welled up, swirling for a while before finally sliding down.
A single golden pearl dropped with a soft plop and landed neatly in Yu Xuan’s palm.
