Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 54
When Lou Anran returned, she instinctively glanced around in search of someone. After a brief look, her eyes landed on a large lump wriggling beneath the blanket on the wide bed. It was bundled tightly, resembling a helpless little bunny that had wandered into the bed canopy by accident and was now panicking, flailing about, and inching forward slowly.
Just as the lump edged dangerously close to falling off the bed, Lou Anran scooped it up into her arms, blanket and all. She even gave it a playful bounce.
“Little one, what are you doing under there?”
Mo Ying was pulled from beneath the covers, her long hair tangled and falling over her face. A pen had been cleverly wedged into the bun on her head, giving her an oddly artistic look. She held up two sheets of paper, her wide eyes filled with surprise as she stared at Lou Anran.
Lou Anran noticed a faint golden shimmer in Mo Ying’s eyes. The closer she leaned, the clearer it appeared. She frowned and softly brushed the corner of Mo Ying’s eye.
“What is this?”
Mo Ying’s eyes grew even wider. She avoided answering and instead handed her the sheets of paper.
“Lou Xiaohei, I just composed two songs. Do you want to take a look?”
The two sheets were covered in music notes. However, because of Mo Ying’s nearly illegible handwriting, they resembled a child’s chaotic scribbles more than actual notation. In the dim moonlight, Lou Anran had to squint hard just to make sense of them. Eventually, she was able to piece together the general melody, though it sounded quite different from Mo Ying’s usual cheerful style. She rubbed her eyes and suddenly changed the topic.
“Baby, do you have a lot of luminous pearls in the sea?”
“Huh?”
Mo Ying paused, puzzled by the shift. She struggled to understand how composing music was related to glowing pearls.
“Do you like shiny pearls? If you do, I can bring some for you next time I go back.”
Lou Anran was taken aback. She had only asked out of idle curiosity, wondering how the little one managed to see clearly in total darkness. With a helpless sigh, she stood up and turned on the light. The soft glow instantly warmed the room and revealed what had been hidden beneath the covers. Golden pearls sparkled openly now, catching the light in a mesmerizing display.
“Hmm? What are these?”
Mo Ying’s cheeks turned crimson. She dove forward and threw herself over them.
“Nothing! It’s nothing.”
Her red cheeks may as well have had the words “I’m guilty” and “No, this is definitely something” written across them.
Lou Anran leaned in with a sly smile, clearly enjoying how flustered the little one had become. Mo Ying swallowed nervously. When Lou Anran reached to tug away the blanket, Mo Ying planted herself firmly on top of it. With both hands gripping the edge of the bed, she gave off a stubborn energy that screamed, “You can’t have it, and I’m not moving.” It was equal parts endearing and exasperating.
Lou Anran’s expression darkened.
“Baby, am I still your dear girlfriend?”
Mo Ying nodded. “Of course you are.”
Lou Anran turned away with a look of heartache and lowered herself to the floor, her back against the bed. Her shoulders shook as if she were crying.
“If I really am your dear girlfriend, then why are you keeping secrets from me? Even a few golden pearls have to be hidden away. It makes me feel like I am just a tool you use when it suits you, and then toss aside afterward. You’re supposed to be my girlfriend. How could you treat me like that?”
Mo Ying stayed silent.
She was not a scummy fish.
“Lou Xiaohei, stop saying such things. I’m not like that.”
If her voice had not trembled on those last four words, Lou Anran might have believed her.
When Lou Anran remained silent for too long, Mo Ying’s guilt deepened. She shifted slightly, then extended her pale little foot and began poking at Lou Xiaohei’s back. Lou Anran dodged her several times, but when there was nowhere left to retreat, she buried her face between her knees.
Was she truly angry?
She’s really angry?
Mo Ying glanced around the empty bedroom, puzzled. There were no colored ribbons or decorations in sight. Like a turtle flipped onto its back, she twisted and scooted closer little by little. When she finally reached Lou Anran’s side, the latter turned her face away.
After a long inner struggle, Mo Ying finally pulled the shame-inducing golden pearls from beneath the blanket.
“If you really like them, then… they’re yours.”
Lou Anran had already seen the pearls. Their size and luster were identical to the ones on Mo Ying’s ankle. At first, she thought they might have fallen off, but a quick glance confirmed that the anklet, a gift from Yu Xuan as part of a bet, was still perfectly in place.
So where had these extra ones come from?
Mo Ying noticed her staring blankly at the fallen golden beads. A wave of shame washed over her, making even her toes curl in embarrassment.
“Lou Xiaohei… maybe you should give them back to me.”
Lou Anran tightened her grip on the pearls.
“You can’t take back a gift once it’s been given.”
The pearls were cold to the touch, as if they had been resting in icy water.
Her eyes instinctively dropped to Mo Ying’s ankle. It had taken great effort just to convince the little one to part with a few pearls, not to mention the anklet that Yu Xuan had deliberately used to bait her. Lou Anran murmured softly,
“Baby, these pearls look exactly like the ones on your ankle. Let me touch—”
Before she could finish, Mo Ying had already pulled her foot away and bolted out of the room barefoot, as though something terrifying was chasing her.
Lou Anran’s expression became unreadable. She tucked the pearls into her pocket and walked out slowly.
“Baby, did something good happen today?”
Mo Ying had already sat cross-legged on the floor. Her attention quickly shifted as she answered Lou Anran’s question and briefly explained their plan.
“Lou Xiaohei, do you think Sisi will come back?”
When Lou Anran met her hopeful gaze, she could not bring herself to shatter it. The truth lingered on her tongue but never left her lips.
“Your plan is good, but I have an even better one. It can bring your friend back and help her escape her current trouble. Baby, do you want to hear it?”
Mo Ying did not hesitate. She leaned in with eager anticipation.
“Yes. I want to hear it.”
Lou Anran slowly lifted her head, lips slightly pursed, then pointed to them with a suggestive look.
“As my dear girlfriend, baby, it is your duty to satisfy my needs until I am content.”
Mo Ying blinked several times before understanding. Her eyes locked onto those tempting red lips, and she swallowed involuntarily.
“Lou Xiaohei… then, one kiss.”
Lou Anran replied with a playful counter.
“Two.”
As they moved closer, their breaths intermingled, and the familiar scent of minty body wash enveloped them. Ever since they had begun living together, Lou Anran had chosen every product they used, from bath soaps to skincare.
Even before the kiss began, Mo Ying’s heart was already racing like crazy. The cool, minty scent pulled her in. She instinctively licked her lips and lightly brushed her partner’s. She could clearly feel how dry Lou Anran’s lips were.
Lou Anran narrowed her eyes.
“Hurry up, baby.”
Mo Ying leaned in and gently softened Lou Anran’s lips with small, kitten-like licks. Lou Anran could not take it anymore. She pulled Mo Ying close with both hands and kissed her back with intensity, leaving her breathless.
“Baby, that counts as one.”
