Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 59
Humans were truly strange creatures.
While Mo Ying splashed around in the bathtub, this philosophical thought suddenly crossed her mind. Her encounter with Su Bai earlier had not gone well. Although he wore his usual gentle and refined smile, the emotional ribbons drifting in the room were of the kind she disliked the most.
Ugh…
She felt slightly nauseous.
When Lou Anran returned and saw her looking so grim, she asked casually, “Baby, who bullied you?”
Mo Ying propped her little head on her hand. “Why do some people clearly dislike me, yet act as though they like me very much? I don’t get it. Lou Xiaohei, do you know why?”
Lou Anran paused as she washed her face. She quickly applied cleanser to her cheeks and forehead, drawing circles while studying her little one’s serious expression in the mirror. It did not seem like a boast, more like genuine confusion. “Because you’re too outstanding, baby. People are jealous of you, and those with any sense are afraid to offend you.”
Mo Ying tilted her head, nearly convinced. But when she remembered Su Bai’s true intentions, she grinned and corrected her. “Wrong. He wants to win me over. Lou Xiaohei, I’ve just realized humans are really interesting.”
Humans?
Lou Anran always felt a particular discomfort whenever she heard that distinction. They had shared the most intimate bond and were carrying the fruit of their love together. They should have been the closest lovers in the world. Yet whenever she tried to move closer, the distance between them felt vast, as though the ocean separated them.
No. She had to find a way to keep her firmly by her side.
Under neon lights, in the never-ending bustle of the city, a seemingly insignificant piece of gossip lay in wait like a beast lurking in the night. Its jaws slowly opened, silent but menacing. Meanwhile, the unsuspecting girl slept sweetly, curled up in her bed.
At seven in the morning, during peak commuting hours, crowds jostled and pushed their way onto the subway. With every stop, more people poured in. The mix of various scents created an overwhelming atmosphere. Most young people were glued to their phones, scrolling through funny videos, checking the news, and eventually browsing entertainment updates.
“Look, it’s that vampire again.”
“I always felt like she had more screen time in ‘Sing for the Song 2’ than everyone else. Turns out she slept her way to the top. That shameless tramp better stay away from our Su Su.”
Two girls crammed into a corner of the subway were not bothering to keep their voices down. They were die-hard fans of Su Bai, known as solo stans, and could not stand anyone being associated with their idol. Even if Su Bai didn’t mind, they absolutely would not tolerate it.
People nearby glanced over and inevitably caught a peek at the headline on their phones. Instinctively curious, they lowered their heads and began searching the topic. What they found was jaw-dropping. Within moments, screenshots were flying into group chats of hundreds. The gossip spread like wildfire.
From one to ten, ten to a hundred, the rumor raced across the internet. For many outsiders to the fandom, this kind of explosive news was exactly what they lived for.
The headline was sensational. The most popular contestant on ‘Sing for the Song 2,’ Mo Ying, seen in a secret meeting with Teacher Su Bai. Romance suspected… It practically invited clicks. The blogger had not made baseless claims. Below the text were several crisp, clear photos. They showed Mo Ying and Su Bai exiting a private bar room at the training base. In one photo, Su Bai raised his hand, and from the side, it seemed that he was reaching for Mo Ying’s shoulder. Another shot captured the intense gaze he had directed at her in the first episode. That, too, was interpreted as love unspoken.
…
Mo Ying was startled awake by a loud knock on the door. She opened it, rubbed her eyes, then smiled brightly. “Ah, I was just about to come find you. I finished my finals song. Are you all ready too?”
The three girls standing outside looked pale. Song preparations were the last thing on their minds. They had just been ambushed by today’s trending topic. After switching to alternate accounts and rolling up their sleeves to join the comment war, they still couldn’t outmatch Su Bai’s die-hard fans. Their fingers were sore from the effort.
Wanqi Tianxin could not wait to connect the dots. “So, you and Teacher Su were just talking about your song, right?”
Mo Ying walked barefoot across the carpet and poured herself a glass of water. She hadn’t even noticed their eager expressions. “Of course not.”
Wu Si gasped. “Xiao Yu’er, listen to me. Su Bai is really not a good man. Only fools blinded by him treat him like a treasure. I’m telling you right now, I am absolutely against this.”
Mo Ying blinked. “Huh?”
Chen Ruiling remained the most composed. Seeing Mo Ying’s confused face, she realized the girl was still unaware of the day’s explosive news. “What did Su Bai want with you?”
Mo Ying hesitated, debating whether to reveal that Yu Xuan was her Fourth Sister. But since someone had already found out, she figured it was pointless to hide. “He wanted to invite Teacher Yu to perform at his concert.”
The three girls exclaimed in unison. “What!”
The truth was even more bewildering than they had imagined.
Chen Ruiling fixed her gaze on Mo Ying. “You and Yu Xuan… are you friends?”
Looking back, there had been hints. Mo Ying and Yu Xuan had chatted privately. Yu Xuan had agreed surprisingly easily to help. Even Wu Si’s situation had been handled far too smoothly. Apart from Lou Anran’s influence, Yu Xuan’s role had been essential. And her decision to step down from her lofty status and serve as a mentor on the show was itself quite unusual.
Mo Ying flashed a row of clean white teeth and widened her pretty eyes, trying to charm her way out. “Ah, didn’t I tell you? She’s my Fourth Sister.”
The trio fell silent.
Their hearts felt like they were on a roller coaster. After a 365-degree loop, they crashed down again. Caught between shock and joy, they grabbed Mo Ying as she tried to slip into her bedroom and ruffled her silky hair until it resembled a chicken nest.
Wanqi Tianxin was laughing in disbelief. They had worried themselves silly over nothing. And now, thinking back to that earlier time…
Wu Si was the most stunned. “Wait, are you serious? You’re really my goddess’s little sister?”
Mo Ying took a couple of steps back. “Aha, actually, she told me not to tell anyone. She was afraid you’d overthink it.”
The three of them exchanged looks. Overthink it? That was an understatement. Online, Su Bai’s rabid fans were trashing Mo Ying like she was some leech clinging to their beloved Su Su. But if they knew the girl was Yu Xuan’s younger sister… who was really the leech?
“Xiao Yu’er… want to check out today’s hottest blog post?”
“Yeah, just take a peek.”
They had rushed over in a frenzy, but now they acted calm and smug as they tempted Mo Ying. Still half-dazed, she opened her phone. The moment she saw the trending topic, her anger mounted.
“They’re awful! How could they say that? I don’t like Teacher Su one bit.”
The three girls, “…”
Was that really the point here?
The real problem was that someone had just thrown mud all over her.
Mo Ying was still fuming. She looked a little wronged as she clenched her phone, ready to charge into Su Bai’s place for a showdown. “I’m making a call!”
The girls assumed she was going to complain to her sister. They had already pictured Yu Meiren confronting Su Bai, and they couldn’t help feeling gleeful about it.
When Lou Anran received a call from her little one, she was busy giving Chu Shu a hard time. “This is what you stayed up all night to pick out?”
Crash.
Chu Shu wisely took a step back. Several brochures advertising diamond rings were swept off the table, fluttering to the floor. Their glossy pages lay exposed, the sparkling rings on them now looking worthless in Lou Anran’s eyes.
Chu Shu could not help defending herself. “Boss, you gave me no time and no clear instructions. I didn’t even know what you needed them for. These represent about eighty percent of the latest market designs.”
She was used to her boss being demanding. Late-night disruptions had once been the norm. Lou Anran rarely slept, dragging Chu Shu’s schedule into chaos. Lately, it had been quiet. So when she got the call last night, she had even felt a bit nostalgic. Ugh. “Boss, with how picky you’re being, don’t tell me these are for a proposal—”
Before she could finish, Lou Anran’s phone rang.
Chu Shu soon heard her boss’s voice go syrupy sweet. “What is it? Missing me already?”
Lou Anran glanced coldly at the automatic door opening and closing, then focused entirely on the call.
Mo Ying pouted. “Lou Xiaohei, your girlfriend is about to be stolen. Why aren’t you back yet?”
Lou Anran, “???”
…
Ni Xinyu arrived at Lou Anran’s office two hours later. She was bundled in a trench coat, clutching tissues, and sneezing repeatedly. Her face was pale, resembling a vampire pulled reluctantly into the daylight.
Seeing her in such a sorry state, Lou Anran swallowed her harsh words. “You didn’t come here to throw yourself at me, did you? Come on. Let Chu Shu take you to the hospital. Don’t embarrass yourself in my office.”
Ni Xinyu gave her a resentful stare, trying to peel away every layer of her disguise. “Lou Xiaohei, be honest with me—ah-choo! Are you getting close to Xiao Yu’er because of Yu Xuan?”
Lou Anran, “??? I think you’re not sick. You’ve just lost your mind.”
Ni Xinyu was furious and about to retort when she sneezed violently. “Wipe that grin off your face. I met with Yu Xuan yesterday.”
Lou Anran scrolled through the fiery online comments, still unsure what her little one’s agent was rambling about. “Oh? I didn’t know you two were on such good terms now. Turned enemies into friends? Planning to fall in love while fighting?”
Ni Xinyu was momentarily speechless, nearly choking. “What nonsense are you spewing, Lou Xiaohei? Watch your words. I met her to settle the score. I’ve practiced backstroke so hard. I needed a rematch to get closure.”
Lou Anran’s fingers trembled. “And? Did you get your closure?”
Damn it.
The memory of that encounter alone made Ni Xinyu feel as if she were struggling to breathe.

Ni Xinyu: I didn’t manage to regain the upper hand, but I did see a fishtail~~~help!
