Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 8
Ni Xinyu flipped her hand and passed over a business card. The cigarette in her other hand had nearly burned out. She took one last drag, stubbed it out, and tossed it out of the car window. “Let me introduce myself. I am Ni Xinyu.”
The card had a black background with golden patterns. On the front were four bold characters: Anchen Entertainment. On each side spread black wings with golden light shimmering on every feather. The back was simpler, with just three rainbow-colored characters: Ni Xinyu.
The card felt rich in texture, and the company’s logo carried a rebellious air, which was oddly paired with the rainbow name. It was contradictory yet striking. Mo Ying, however, could not understand the meaning behind it. She simply stared wide-eyed, admiring both sides of the card. “It is so pretty.”
Ni Xinyu saw the little one answering with such seriousness and could not resist teasing. “So do you think my name looks better, or do I look better?”
Mo Ying liked shiny things. Hearing her ask, she truly lifted her gaze and began to look her over. Her attention was caught by the tattoo exposed at Ni Xinyu’s waist, roses entwined with thorns.
As Mo Ying’s face came close, her cool breath fell against that sensitive patch of skin, sending shivers across Ni Xinyu’s body. For a moment, it felt as though she had shot herself in the foot. She quickly pressed a hand to that soft, tender face and pushed her away with the excuse of instruction. “Sweetheart, let me tell you something important. Flirting without realizing it is very, very dangerous.”
The moment she heard the word ‘dangerous,’ Mo Ying immediately straightened her posture, her hands resting neatly on her knees, sitting upright like a schoolchild. Her eyes spun restlessly toward the eastern coast. “I want to get out.”
Just then, Lou Anran’s roar burst from the earpiece. “Ni Xinyu, who gave you the courage!”
Ni Xinyu frowned, yanked off the Bluetooth headset clamped to her ear, and tossed the lit-up phone aside, cutting the call. She turned back with a smile. “Sweetheart, I love listening to you sing.”
Mo Ying’s eyes lit up. “Are you also my fan?”
Ni Xinyu leaned on her hand and smiled. “Yes. Unfortunately, you never noticed me.”
That mad boss’s call had forced her to collect information on this sweetheart. Yet online, there was almost nothing to be found. Compared to seasoned actors and actresses who had been semi-retired and never had a single scandal, this newly risen streamer had even less. Aside from a few screenshots from livestreams, there was nothing.
At the mention of her livestream, Mo Ying’s face crumpled like a bun, full of grievance. “I cannot livestream songs anymore.”
She spoke with genuine sorrow, mourning the loss of a good place to hunt for food.
Ni Xinyu’s lips curved slightly. “Sweetheart, let me take you to a lively place. A place where many people sing. Do you want to go?”
Mo Ying hesitated, torn between the sea and finding a new hunting ground. In the end, she could not resist the delicious memory lingering on her tongue. “I will go.”
Ni Xinyu slammed the gas pedal. The fiery red car streaked past a couple of pedestrians on the empty eastern streets, so fast that someone cursed behind them, “Driving like that, are you rushing to reincarnate?”
Mo Ying pressed herself against the window, watching the night blur away, the city rushing past her eyes.
After a call, Ni Xinyu glanced over to see the little one squinting, her long golden hair blown across her face by the wind, turning her into a comical mess. The sight made Ni Xinyu chuckle. She raised the window and teased, “Sweetheart, you are the first to ride in my car and still gaze calmly at the scenery.”
No. She was not a person. She was a big fish.
Mo Ying shifted her hips nervously.
The destination soon came into view. It was a vast stadium that could hold thirty thousand people. They waited briefly in the car until a young man, dressed like one of the staff, hurried over, panting heavily. “Sister Ni, here are the two tickets you wanted. I specially found inconspicuous seats for you both.” He paused to catch his breath before adding, “But I just got word that Sister Yu might appear as the surprise guest at the end.”
Ni Xinyu’s sharp phoenix eyes cut into him. “Let her come. Do you think I would be afraid of someone with the surname Yu?”
The young man flinched and quickly apologized. “I said too much. Please forgive me, Sister Ni. I only meant that if the reporters catch you both in the same frame, they may write nonsense.”
From the passenger seat, Mo Ying listened without understanding who this Sister Yu was. Her focus was on the crowd ahead holding glowing support boards, their faint singing drifting through the night. The open grounds outside the stadium were crammed with people. Some had traveled just to support their idols, content to glimpse them even without tickets. Others seized the chance to do business, selling merchandise sprawled across the ground.
Mo Ying wanted to look longer, but something pressed her head down. The world before her eyes dimmed in color. She flinched at the sudden change, then heard Ni Xinyu’s coaxing voice. “From today on, you must learn to disguise yourself.”
Turning her head, she saw that Ni Xinyu’s hair was pressed beneath a black cap, her enchanting face hidden by oversized sunglasses, leaving only those red lips exposed, commanding the world.
Mo Ying studied herself in the mirror again and again. It felt strange. Her beautiful golden hair was hidden, along with her lovely face. She tried to take the disguise off, but Ni Xinyu pressed it back down. After three minutes of playful struggle, Mo Ying was defeated.
Ni Xinyu picked up the tickets and her phone, then crooked a finger at the sulking little one. “Come on. Let sister show you what it is like to see a concert with tens of thousands of people.”
The concert had already been underway for half an hour. As soon as they entered the stadium, the little one who had been sulking suddenly brightened. Her eyes sparkled and her head turned eagerly in every direction. She nearly dashed onto the stage. Her thrilled expression resembled a hamster sneaking extra grain from the landlord’s storehouse.
The scene matched Ni Xinyu’s description perfectly. The dazzling rainbow of stage lights sparkled in Mo Ying’s eyes, and the air was filled with floating strands of emotion. She was as overwhelmed as a countrywoman stepping into a grand manor.
So many. So many!
Compared to the feedback from her livestream room, the emotions here were several times stronger. Amidst the mix of colors, she ignored the sickening ones and, while Ni Xinyu was distracted, secretly sucked in a few strands. The regret of missing her livestream vanished at once. She even hummed happily along with the crowd.
She did not even know who the hardworking boy singing and dancing on stage was, yet that did not stop her from feeding.
Ni Xinyu saw her goal achieved and gently cast out another lure. “Sweetheart, your singing is beautiful. Do you want to stand on a stage like this one day and sing too?”
Mo Ying’s eyes lit up. “I want to.”
Finding another way to fill her stomach gave her renewed energy.
At that moment, the boy on stage, Qi Jia, suddenly stopped, picked up the microphone, and gave a long speech of thanks. Then a name slipped from his lips, and the front row fans screamed like marmots, their frenzy reaching a fever pitch.
“I cannot hear you. Louder!”
“Yu Xuan! Yu Xuan! Yu Xuan!”
At the center of attention, someone in the front row sat coldly watching, her beautiful eyes nearly spitting fire. Only after persuasion from those around her did she toss off her coat, rise slowly, and head for the stage surrounded by two rows of bodyguards.
Beside Mo Ying, Ni Xinyu froze at the name, cursing under her breath.
Mo Ying did not notice, too busy feeding, until a faintly familiar voice rang through the speakers. She jerked her head upward, her gaze locking onto the red-haired figure who was stepping onto the stage.
On stage, Yu Xuan sang a duet with Qi Jia. Yet it was less her cooperating with him than him struggling to keep up with her. The undercurrent between them, however, was seen by the fans as a gaze of love.
The screams rose again.
Mo Ying could not contain herself. She stood up and waved with glee. “Fourth Sister!”
Ni Xinyu instantly yanked her down and bent close to whisper harshly, “Sweetheart, do not cause trouble. Troublemakers will be thrown out by security.”
She could not afford that embarrassment.
“But that is my fourth sister,” Mo Ying protested.
Ni Xinyu was so shocked that her sunglasses slipped. “Who did you just say is your fourth sister?”
On stage, Yu Xuan seemed to hear something familiar. She frowned in doubt but saw nothing when she looked down.
Xiao Wu?
Impossible. Xiao Wu should be home asleep.
After finishing her song, Yu Xuan stepped off. As the special guest, she had only come to support Qi Jia. Her appearance had already been announced without her consent. In truth, Yu Xuan hated being used this way. She left with a cold face the moment she reached the backstage.
When Mo Ying looked up again, Yu Xuan was gone. Panicked, she rushed outside. Ni Xinyu gritted her teeth in frustration. Trouble always followed when Yu Xuan appeared. She had nearly reeled in her prize, only to have it swim away. She hurried after her, only for her phone to ring. Seeing the caller ID of her crazy boss, she had no choice but to answer, shouting, “Sweetheart, do not run off!”
Outside the stadium, Mo Ying could not find Yu Xuan anywhere. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she crouched on the ground, looking utterly pitiful. Ni Xinyu arrived to see this and covered her forehead. How had she ended up in such a mess?
“If you want Yu Xuan, it is not impossible.” Ni Xinyu’s voice nearly cracked as she forced the name out.
Mo Ying’s eyes blinked with hope.
Ni Xinyu smiled, but it twisted with malice. “Once your singing is secured, I will help you find her.”
“Alright, alright, let us go find Fourth—” Mo Ying stopped mid-sentence.
Lou Anran, perfectly dressed after two hours of preparation, had spotted the little one safe and sound. Relief softened her smile as she walked gracefully toward them.
But the little one’s joy vanished. Her green eyes widened as if she had seen a ghost. She drew in a sharp breath, and the sound carried clearly through Lou Anran’s Bluetooth earpiece. Without another word, she grabbed Ni Xinyu and ran.
Ni Xinyu stumbled after her. “Why are we running?”
Mo Ying’s voice trembled. “Run, the bad one is here.”
