Wait, I Got in the Wrong Car (GL) - Chapter 9
Chu Shu watched helplessly as the little beauty pulled Ni Xinyu along and rushed past her, as if something strange was chasing them. She turned her head and came face to face with her boss’s expression, so dark it seemed ice shards would fall out the next second.
She was doomed.
Chu Shu quickly retreated until she was out of the deadly line of sight. Pressing a hand to her chest, she wondered how long it had been since she last saw her boss look like that.
…
Elsewhere, Ni Xinyu ended their frantic escape with a twisted ankle. She sat on a step, rubbing her foot in pain, and scolded while pulling off her shoe. “Why were you running like that? This is a lawful society. There are no bad guys. Who exactly did you see?”
Mo Ying noticed her reddened ankle, which looked swollen. She crouched down and could not resist poking it with a finger, only to have Ni Xinyu smack her hand away with a sharp “Do not mess around.” Mo Ying recalled several things Lou Anran had done in the book and judged that she indeed counted as a villain. She never expected to meet her here. Troubled, she scratched her chin with her fingertips. “It was… a bad one.”
But she was not afraid, because she would soon see her fourth sister.
Thinking of this, her bright eyes fell expectantly on Ni Xinyu, who had just promised to help her find her sister.
Ni Xinyu saw her adopting the obedient look of a kitten and knew exactly what she was about to say. She rolled her eyes. “You must be mistaken. You are pure, adorable, and kind. How could you possibly have such a bizarre sister who is both black-hearted and two-faced like Yu Xuan?”
Mo Ying did not really understand what “black-hearted” or “two-faced” meant, but she insisted, “She is my fourth sister. I will not mistake her.”
Ni Xinyu suddenly leaned closer and pinched that plump, collagen-filled cheek. “Are you serious? Your surname is Mo and hers is Yu. You two do not even look alike.”
If one had to point out similarities, both faces carried a faintly exotic look, as if they were of mixed bl00d.
Mo Ying pouted, displeased. “We look alike. Do not say we do not.”
Ni Xinyu held back the urge to roll her eyes. Truthfully, the moment the name Yu was mentioned, her enthusiasm for persuading the sweetheart to sign a contract diminished by more than half.
As this thought crossed her mind, she removed the Bluetooth headset hanging from her ear. Her expression turned strange as she glanced at her phone, realizing the call was still connected. Yet the other side had fallen silent at some point. She pressed a finger to her lips to shush Mo Ying and said, “Hello, Boss Lou?”
Lou Anran was sitting in her car, radiating cold air. She had let Ni Xinyu call out three times before finally responding, her voice cutting like a blade. “Your work has never been this sloppy. It has been a week, and you still cannot handle a little streamer. Yet you dare to boast of your skills. Is your fiancée perhaps with that Yu—”
“Shut up, Lou Xiaohei. Say one more word, and I quit right now.”
Damn.
The tension had escalated to the point of mutual destruction.
Chu Shu listened to her boss’s venomous tongue, shrinking her neck as she tried to hide beneath her seat, desperate to erase her presence.
Ni Xinyu was so furious that she ripped off the Bluetooth headset and flung it five meters away like a stone. “Lou Xiaohei, you black-hearted bastard, get lost!”
A jeweled high heel followed, flying in a graceful arc through the air. Mo Ying let out an astonished gasp at the sight.
Her bare foot pressed painfully against the rough ground. As the fury ebbed, Ni Xinyu’s reason returned. She caught sight of Mo Ying watching the spectacle like a play and ground her molars before ordering with her hands on her hips. “Go fetch my shoe.”
Mo Ying glanced at the distance, then at Ni Xinyu’s pitiful bare legs.
Suddenly, the world spun. The one-meter-sixty-seven woman was hoisted easily onto Mo Ying’s shoulder. Hanging upside down, Ni Xinyu’s forehead throbbed with veins as she struggled. “For heaven’s sake, put me down. I do not want to end up in the hospital today.”
The word “hospital” froze Mo Ying in place. She carefully set Ni Xinyu back down. “Walking barefoot hurts.”
Such a small darling, yet she possessed such surprising strength.
That night, Ni Xinyu’s impression of Mo Ying changed again and again. After she recovered from the shock, they both went searching for the shoe, but it was gone, probably picked up by some shameless passerby. Ni Xinyu had to hop back to the car and pull out a spare pair. Meanwhile, Mo Ying sat obediently in the driver’s seat. Once Ni Xinyu cleaned the dirt off her foot, Mo Ying turned with shining eyes and asked, “Are we going to find Fourth Sister now?”
&@%#*
If words could stab, Ni Xinyu’s heart had already been riddled with holes ever since Yu Xuan appeared. Grinding her molars, she started the car with a smile on her face and curses in her heart.
They drove through the night wind, circling the glittering city half a dozen times. Memories flashed by like fleeting shadows.
She lit one cigarette after another, letting the cold air disperse her anger. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mo Ying asleep with her knees hugged to her chest, leaning against the window without a hint of caution.
“Heh, what a—” The word “disaster” drifted away with the night wind.
Ni Xinyu parked at the entrance of Anchen Entertainment. Carrying the sleeping Mo Ying in her arms, she strode through the building with an icy face that kept curious gazes at bay. Only when she reached her office did her cold air subside a little. She pulled a contract from the drawer and slapped it on the desk.
The loud sound jolted Mo Ying awake. She stared dazedly at the unfamiliar office. “Where is this? Did you not say you would help me find Fourth Sister?”
Ni Xinyu looked at her half-asleep expression. “Before you see your sister, you must solve your own living problem. Or do you expect her to support you?”
Her words struck Mo Ying right in the heart. She smacked her lips. She had eaten well that day and felt sleepy. Rubbing her eyelids, she murmured, “They cannot feed me. I still need to feed myself.”
Ni Xinyu nodded and spread the contract before her. “Three years. Anchen Entertainment will give you the best resources and the grandest stage. Sign it, and you will see your Fourth Sister very soon.”
The memory of Miao Jin’s contract still cast a shadow in her heart. Seeing another one now, Mo Ying drooped her head onto the desk. “Why is it three years again? Can I not sign for just one year?”
What?
For anyone else, Ni Xinyu would have snapped back with, “Sign it or leave.” No company would waste resources on someone ready to run after a year. But with Mo Ying, she summoned every ounce of patience. “Sweetheart, tell me what you want most right now.”
Mo Ying’s sleepy eyes lit up like a little lamp.
Ni Xinyu encouraged her. “Go on. Maybe it can come true soon.”
Mo Ying never thought the fish tank she imagined would appear so quickly. A pool of sparkling blue water reflected their smiling faces. It could not compare to the deep sea, but it was far better than Miao Jin’s bathtub. It was her dream fish tank.
Ni Xinyu placed the contract and pen in front of her. “Sign this, and it will be yours. Raise fish, raise people, it does not matter. This house will be yours to rule.”
Tempted by the vision of the fish tank, Mo Ying signed the contract without hesitation. Delighted, she ran off to explore her new home. She was ecstatic to find a bathtub inside, similar to those found in hotels. It made her so happy she nearly rolled in it.
With her purpose achieved, Ni Xinyu called Boss Lou. “Three-year contract with a thirty-million villa attached. Boss Lou, what a generous hand.”
The two villas were only separated by a hidden door, both belonging to one owner, Lou Anran.
Lou Anran’s voice carried disdain. “Petty. Thirty million is nothing. And how could Yu Xuan’s little sister be worth only that much? Just wait and see. I will never bet on the wrong treasure.”
The call ended, leaving Ni Xinyu trembling with fury. Damn it. Was this not the same black-hearted woman who once called her an idiot for writing her fiancée’s name on their marriage house?
“Mo Ying? Sweetheart?”
“Hm?”
Mo Ying was already testing the bathtub at home. She lifted her damp head from the water, her clear eyes gleaming like polished gems. “What is it?”
Ni Xinyu had intended to lecture her, but when she saw the sweetheart glistening from the water, she finally understood why that crazy woman Lou Anran chased her so relentlessly. “You must be tired after all this. Take a bath and sleep early.”
Mo Ying nodded obediently, though in truth her fish heart was already leaping back into the bathtub.
Ni Xinyu left, but returned again to remind her. “Tomorrow the company will assign you two assistants. If you need anything, tell me. Also, lock every door and window. Every single one.”
Mo Ying tilted her head in puzzlement but forgot about it the moment Ni Xinyu left. She plunged happily into the bathtub.
Outside, Lou Anran once again heard the little one’s ethereal voice drifting through the window. Even as the sky paled with dawn, instead of feeling irritable as before, she felt strangely refreshed. Rising, she walked toward the hidden door. If she opened it, she might see the little one in pajamas.
Her mind swirled with countless lingering images of that night. They grew so vivid she could almost touch them.
Mo Ying had no idea that a dangerous predator lived next door, coveting her body. She lay like a salted fish in the bathtub, golden tail slapping against the porcelain. She stared at the new golden bud blooming on her abdomen, poking it curiously with her fingers. “What is this?”
