Weak A, She Just Wants to Live to the End (GL) - Chapter 10
On this day, Lin Anan was outdoors filming a beverage commercial with a recently popular male Alpha.
Li Sheng called Wu Xixi and told them to go to the Greenway Hotel for a dinner party after they finished filming the commercial.
After Lin Anan finished filming, she removed her makeup, changed her clothes, and took Wu Xixi with her.
The Greenway Hotel was very close to their management company and was a place where they often had company dinners, so it wasn’t Lin Anan’s first time there.
Lin Anan and Wu Xixi walked toward the hotel lobby with familiarity. As she walked, she said, “Did Li Sheng say why we’re having a dinner party tonight?”
Wu Xixi shook her head. “Should I ask around?”
Lin Anan nodded in front of the elevator. “Yeah, ask around. I heard a few days ago that Bai Yunshuang might be coming back. This dinner party isn’t related to him, is it?”
“Huh?” Wu Xixi quickly took out her phone. “Then I’ll ask someone.”
Wu Xixi said, opening her messaging app, finding another artist’s assistant from their company, and sending a few messages.
A moment later, Wu Xixi’s phone chimed a few times. Wu Xixi looked at the screen, then turned to Lin Anan. “Anan, it really is Bai Yunshuang. They said he came back at noon today. He finished filming his show.”
“Tonight is Li Sheng’s welcome dinner for Bai Yunshuang.”
Lin Anan stepped into the elevator and said, “I knew it. There haven’t been any major happy events these past two days, so I was wondering why we were having a dinner party out of the blue.”
Wu Xixi turned off her phone and followed her into the elevator. “Anan, we don’t have any major conflicts with Bai Yunshuang right now. It’s best if we just stay out of each other’s way. Even though he didn’t become Best Actor with this film, in the original plot, he was going to become Best Actor sooner or later, so it’s better if we keep a low profile.”
Lin Anan nodded and smiled reassuringly. “I know.”
The elevator door opened. The two of them gave the room number to the waiter and followed him toward the private dining room.
When they got to the door, they paused. Lin Anan took a deep breath, put on a standard smile, and reached out to push the door open.
When the door opened, Lin Anan’s eyes widened in shock, and she instinctively took a small step back, almost stepping on Wu Xixi behind her.
Fortunately, Wu Xixi reacted quickly and also took a step back. She looked up and was about to ask Lin Anan what was wrong when she saw Yu Nanxi sitting next to Bai Yunshuang over Lin Anan’s shoulder.
Yu Nanxi was wearing a simple tracksuit, and her long hair was tied back casually, just like the first time Lin Anan had seen her.
Next to Yu Nanxi sat a short-haired, capable-looking woman. She was holding a wine glass and chatting with Li Sheng. It was the same tall woman who was going to block them at the entrance of the residential area more than half a year ago.
The people inside the room heard the door open and all turned to look. They then saw the startled Lin Anan.
Yu Nanxi calmly glanced at Lin Anan, following everyone else’s gaze. She then gave her another thoughtful look before looking away and continuing what she was doing.
Those two glances made Lin Anan’s heart jump out of her chest. She covered her eyes, not daring to look at anyone in the room.
Li Sheng’s brows furrowed slightly. Lin Anan’s awkward stance made him lose face. He stood up and said with a scolding tone, “Anan, what are you doing just standing there? Get in here!”
Lin Anan immediately came back to her senses. She also felt that her behavior just now was inappropriate and would only make her more suspicious.
So she relaxed her stiff smile and graciously bowed and nodded to everyone. “Hello, everyone. I’m Lin Anan from Shengji. I was in a hurry just now and sprained my ankle a little. I’m sorry for being a spectacle.”
After she finished, she looked for an empty seat. She then bit the bullet and led Wu Xixi to a corner, sitting next to Tang Xin.
A middle-aged man sitting next to Bai Yunshuang took a sip of wine. “Lin Anan? That name doesn’t sound familiar. Is she a new artist you signed, Shengji?”
Lin Anan’s polite words finally eased Li Sheng’s mood. He smiled warmly. “Director Wang, she’s not a newcomer. She’s been signed for about two years now, but she had some health problems and took a break for a while. She just came back recently.”
Director Wang was intrigued. “Is she an Omega?”
Li Sheng shook his head. “She looks like an Omega, but she’s actually an Alpha.”
Director Wang’s interest slightly cooled. “Oh… so she’s an Alpha…”
“Yes, even though she’s an Alpha, she’s diligent and very obedient. Director Wang, if you have any roles, you can give her a chance to audition,” Li Sheng said awkwardly, taking the opportunity to promote Lin Anan.
The tall woman next to him glanced at Lin Anan, then seemingly unintentionally swept her gaze over Wu Xixi’s face. She smiled and said, “An Alpha who is this cute and pretty is indeed rare.”
Li Sheng forced a smile and agreed. “Yes.”
Lin Anan, knowing what to do, picked up her wine glass and raised it to toast Director Wang and the tall woman.
The two of them also picked up their glasses and took a few perfunctory sips before starting to talk to the other artists.
When everyone’s attention turned to other things, Lin Anan secretly looked at everyone in the room. Besides her and Tang Xin, there were several other artists from their company.
It seemed that Li Sheng wanted to take advantage of Bai Yunshuang’s welcome dinner to invite Director Wang and give them a chance to show their faces to him.
She just didn’t expect that to successfully invite Director Wang, Li Sheng also invited Yu Nanxi. She didn’t know if Yu Nanxi had recognized her.
When she walked in just now, Yu Nanxi seemed to have glanced at her a few times, just like everyone else. She was too nervous at the time to notice what Yu Nanxi’s expression was.
As Lin Anan thought about this, she secretly looked at Yu Nanxi. She didn’t expect Yu Nanxi to suddenly look up and make eye contact with her without any warning.
She was so startled she quickly looked down, her eyes fixed on the glass in front of her. Her heart was beating nervously.
She didn’t dare to secretly watch Yu Nanxi again. She only hoped to finish this meal quickly and leave. But she kept feeling like Yu Nanxi was intentionally or unintentionally glancing in her direction.
She didn’t know if she was looking at her or at Tang Xin next to her.
Lin Anan suddenly thought with fear, if Yu Nanxi was glancing at her, had she already given herself away?
Yu Nanxi had asked Tang Xin for her information, but Tang Xin hadn’t given it to her. So had Yu Nanxi asked Bai Yunshuang separately?
After all, the two of them had been filming together for six months. Yu Nanxi had countless opportunities and time to ask Bai Yunshuang, and since Bai Yunshuang didn’t get along with her, had he really told Yu Nanxi about her?
Oh no, why hadn’t she thought of this before? If that was the case, what should she do next?
The more Lin Anan thought about it, the more panicked she became. In her anxiety, she saw Bai Yunshuang, who was slightly drunk, stand up. He said a few polite words to Director Wang, then pushed the door open and left.
Lin Anan guessed that Bai Yunshuang was going to the restroom. She wanted to follow him out and ask, but if she went out so soon, it would be too obvious that she was following him.
She anxiously counted the time. When about five minutes had passed, she quietly got up and told Wu Xixi she was going to the restroom. Then she pushed the door open and went out.
She followed her memory and went to the restroom. Sure enough, she saw Bai Yunshuang washing his hands at the sink.
Lin Anan looked around to make sure no one was there. She then walked to the sink, pretended to wash her hands, and leaned closer to Bai Yunshuang. She whispered, “Bai Yunshuang, when you were filming with Yu Nanxi, did she ask you… anything strange?”
Bai Yunshuang looked up and said mockingly, “Oh? What’s so strange? What happened? Did you do something embarrassing?”
Lin Anan was speechless. She knew Bai Yunshuang was doing this on purpose, but this was a serious matter, and she couldn’t afford to have a conflict with him right now.
She suppressed the urge to leave and tried her best to stay calm. “Did Yu Nanxi ever ask you… for my information?”
Bai Yunshuang’s voice became louder. Instead of answering, he asked, “Hey, Lin Anan, I saw you two seemed to get along pretty well when you were delivering food. What? Did you offend Yu Nanxi?”
Lin Anan wanted to cover Bai Yunshuang’s mouth. She quickly looked around and, after confirming that no one was there, she pulled on Bai Yunshuang’s arm and said in a low voice, “Bai Yunshuang, do you have to be so loud? What good would it do you if people found out I used to deliver food?”
“Oh…” Bai Yunshuang pretended to have a sudden realization. “There’s no good in it, but… there’s no harm in it for me either!”
“You…!” Lin Anan was so angry she couldn’t speak.
She took a deep breath and decided to communicate with Bai Yunshuang properly. “Bai Yunshuang, we don’t have any deep-seated hatred, do we? Can’t we just stay out of each other’s way?”
“I didn’t come here to argue with you. Just tell me, did Yu Nanxi ask you about me?”
Bai Yunshuang leaned closer, acting like a hoodlum. “Then you tell me what happened between you and Yu Nanxi, and I’ll tell you if she asked me about you.”
Lin Anan: “…”
Hadn’t Bai Yunshuang changed a lot for Tang Xin at this point?
Why was he still so thuggish?
But on the other hand, the male lead in a sweet romance novel was only supposed to dote on the female lead and not the side characters. It wasn’t his fault that he had a bad attitude toward her. After all, in his eyes, she was an ex-girlfriend who used to pester him.
But dealing with him was just too annoying.
Lin Anan’s eyes darted around, and she decided to use the same story she had used to get rid of Tang Xin to get rid of Bai Yunshuang.
“Didn’t you see me delivering food to Yu Nanxi before? I was delivering a bouquet of roses. I saw she didn’t want them, so I took them and sold them. Those roses were very expensive, so maybe she regretted it later and has been trying to get them back from me.”
“But I can’t let people know I used to deliver food, right? You have to keep this a secret for me.”
“That’s it?” Bai Yunshuang was skeptical. “Yu Nanxi wants to get the roses back just because she regrets it?”
Lin Anan nodded guiltily and said definitively, “Yes, that’s it!”
“I’ve told you everything. Now you tell me, did she ask you about me? Did you say anything?”
Bai Yunshuang quickly shook his head with an innocent expression. “No, she didn’t ask me about you.”
Lin Anan: “…”
Lin Anan was so annoyed she wanted to punch Bai Yunshuang.
If he didn’t, he should have just said so instead of making her go around in circles.
But she also felt relieved. As long as the truth hadn’t been exposed, she had to quickly save money and run away with Wu Xixi to live a normal life, instead of getting caught up in this mess.
“Alright, then you have to continue to keep this a secret for me,” Lin Anan said, then turned to leave.
But Bai Yunshuang grabbed her arm. “When did I ever say I would keep it a secret for you? Did I?”
Lin Anan turned back. “What good would it do you if you don’t? If anyone finds out about my past, or if Yu Nanxi comes to me because of this, it’s definitely because you told her.”
“If my image is ruined, let’s see how Brother Li will deal with you.”
Knowing that her secret hadn’t been exposed, Lin Anan’s confidence grew. She immediately brought up Li Sheng to pressure Bai Yunshuang.
Bai Yunshuang was stunned for a moment, then he laughed. “Lin Anan, you’ve gotten a lot bolder recently, haven’t you? You’re talking to me like this now.”
Lin Anan turned to face him. “What do you want?”
Bai Yunshuang suddenly took a step closer, grabbed Lin Anan, and pushed her against the wall.
Lin Anan was startled. “Bai Yunshuang, what are you doing? Are you crazy? I’m… I’m an Alpha now. I’m the same gender as you.”
“You’ve been doing pretty well while I was away, huh? Your skin’s gotten better,” Bai Yunshuang said with a light chuckle, running his index finger along the side of Lin Anan’s face.
Lin Anan pushed Bai Yunshuang away as if she had been bitten by a snake. “You… you’re sick.”
Bai Yunshuang suddenly laughed loudly. “Lin Anan, I’m just playing a joke on you. Why are you so serious?”
“Alright, I promise not to tell anyone, but you have to agree to three conditions.”
Lin Anan’s face turned red with anger. “What conditions?”
Bai Yunshuang tilted his head playfully. “I haven’t thought of them yet. I’ll tell you when I do.”
Lin Anan: “…”
She decided to just go with it for now. The most important thing was to get Bai Yunshuang to not tell anyone. As for the conditions, she might have already run away with Wu Xixi by the time he thought of them.
Lin Anan really wanted to roll her eyes. “Fine, as long as it’s not murder, arson, or anything against my conscience, I’ll try to agree.”
“Deal,” Bai Yunshuang said with a smug smile.
After reaching an agreement with Bai Yunshuang, Lin Anan didn’t go back to the private dining room. She found a secluded spot and played a mobile game for a while.
She really couldn’t face Yu Nanxi’s gaze, and sitting there on pins and needles was worse than getting some fresh air outside.
So she sent a message to Wu Xixi, telling her to let her know when the dinner was about to end. Then she would go back and pretend she wasn’t feeling well.
It might make Li Sheng angry, but it was better than enduring Yu Nanxi’s scrutinizing gaze.
Author’s Note:
I’ve specifically read the comments for this chapter, and I’m going to explain it to all the friends who didn’t understand.
Someone said, how could delivering food become a weakness Bai Yunshuang could use against Lin Anan?
Have you forgotten that Lin Anan ran into Bai Yunshuang while delivering food and then marked Yu Nanxi?
Is people knowing she delivered food the main point? The main point is that Yu Nanxi knows it was Lin Anan who delivered the food. Then she would know that Lin Anan marked her.
If Yu Nanxi knew, she would catch and sue Lin Anan, and Lin Anan would have to spend the rest of her life in prison. How is that not a weakness?
And another question, why would she proactively talk to Bai Yunshuang about this? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?
I want to say, what would you do if you knew that someone held your secret but that person didn’t know you knew they had it? And they could casually blurt it out at any moment. Wouldn’t you be panicked? — Moreover, Bai Yunshuang will be promoting the film with Yu Nanxi for a long time. The probability of him casually mentioning it to Yu Nanxi if she asks is very high.
Also, if Lin Anan doesn’t check with Bai Yunshuang to see if he said anything, how would she know how to deal with Yu Nanxi? If Yu Nanxi already knows, she can find a way to run away. If Yu Nanxi doesn’t know, wouldn’t her running away for no reason alert Yu Nanxi?
And another person asked, why did she have to agree to Bai Yunshuang’s three conditions?
If Lin Anan didn’t humor Bai Yunshuang first, he would just go straight to Yu Nanxi, and Lin Anan would get caught by Yu Nanxi, wouldn’t she?
Is it more important to humor Bai Yunshuang and save her life, or is it more important to impulsively go head-to-head with him?
And another question, since Bai Yunshuang doesn’t know that Lin Anan marked Yu Nanxi, there’s no need for her to agree to so many conditions.
If Lin Anan doesn’t agree to Bai Yunshuang’s terms and angers him, and he decides to investigate or confirm things with Yu Nanxi, do you think that’s a good deal for Lin Anan?
Every plot point has its reason. It’s not for no reason. What do you all think?
