Weak A, She Just Wants to Live to the End (GL) - Chapter 11
After that dinner party, Yu Nanxi didn’t come looking for them, and Lin Anan and Wu Xixi finally let out a small breath of relief, albeit still on edge.
But both of them were on high alert, and they were even more cautious about Lin Anan’s upcoming work.
After a period of being on edge, Yu Nanxi turned down some work and started promoting The Love of Hemlock with Bai Yunshuang. Only then did Lin Anan and Wu Xixi finally relax a little.
In this state of caution, the two of them lived in peace for a while.
On this day, Li Sheng called Lin Anan and told her there was a new show coming up and to come to the company to take a look.
Lin Anan rarely refused any show as long as Yu Nanxi wasn’t in it. Ever since Yu Nanxi’s return, she had been thinking about one thing: saving up enough money to run away before Yu Nanxi recognized her.
When she and Wu Xixi got the script in Li Sheng’s office, the two of them exchanged a surprised glance in a place where Li Sheng couldn’t see them.
In the original story, this show was a very important part of Lin Anan’s life as a short-lived cannon fodder. It was the beginning of her abusing Tang Xin. As soon as the two of them decided to focus on their acting careers, Wu Xixi had already informed Lin Anan about this.
But neither of them had expected that the show would start even earlier than in the original novel.
Lin Anan flipped through the script and asked, “Is this TV show starting so soon?”
“Yes, it’s been in the works for two years. It’s time to start filming,” Li Sheng seemed to be in a good mood, a smile on his face. “What do you think? Is there a role you like?”
Although Li Sheng was asking, they both knew he had already made up his mind. He was just asking out of routine because he was in a good mood.
But regardless of whether Li Sheng had made a decision, they already knew what role Lin Anan would play in this script.
Lin Anan glanced at the cannon fodder role that the original Lin Anan had played in the script. Without any surprise, she went along with the flow. “I think they’re all pretty good. Which one do you like, Brother Li?”
Li Sheng was very satisfied with Lin Anan’s understanding. He flipped through another identical script on his desk. “What do you think of Song Yunzhao? She’s the female lead’s personal maid. This is a very likable character, and she has a lot of screen time.”
Lin Anan was stunned for a moment. She turned her head and exchanged glances with Wu Xixi again. Both of them saw the shock in the other’s eyes.
Song Yunzhao? Why would she be playing Song Yunzhao?
The name of the cannon fodder that Wu Xixi had told her wasn’t this one.
Because they were so surprised, their actions were instinctive and they didn’t have time to hide it. It was all seen by Li Sheng.
Li Sheng’s brows furrowed slightly, and his tone became colder. “What? You don’t like this role?”
Lin Anan quickly shook her head and said with an awkward smile, “No, no, I… I really like it. This is a big production. How could I not like it…”
Li Sheng leaned back in his chair, his tone returning to normal. “It’s good that you know. This is Director Zhang’s show.”
“You know Director Zhang, right? How many well-made productions have come out of his hands? Others would die for a chance to work with him.”
“Didn’t you act in The Jade before? That was Director Zhang’s show. I remember you played something in it. I think it was the male lead’s mother who died when he was young…”
Lin Anan was speechless for a moment and quickly added, “The role was named Consort Chen.”
Li Sheng tapped his index finger on the table. “Oh, right, that Consort Chen.”
“See how popular that show was back then? You also gained a little fame because of it, right?”
Lin Anan didn’t need Li Sheng to tell her how popular this upcoming show was.
Half a year ago, when Lin Anan was looking for jobs at the company, she had already vaguely heard people talking about this TV show.
The script’s background was a historical palace drama, and it was a companion piece to The Jade. But because of the success of The Jade, the production team was planning to put more effort into creating this new show, The Legend of Pear Dream.
Lin Anan just didn’t expect that she would go from playing a small cannon fodder to playing Song Yunzhao.
Even though this was the first time she had heard of the name Song Yunzhao, based on Li Sheng’s introduction, this role was undoubtedly a lot better than the small cannon fodder the original owner played.
She looked down and carefully flipped through the script. The result confirmed what Li Sheng had said: the character of Song Yunzhao was not only likable but also lived from the first episode with the female lead to the very last one.
The screen time was no less than that of the second and third female leads.
Perhaps Lin Anan took too long to confirm the role, and Li Sheng was getting a little impatient. He tapped on the table. “What do you think? Is this role good enough?”
“Yes,” Lin Anan said, following Li Sheng’s lead. But she still had a question that worried her. “Have the other roles been cast?”
Li Sheng’s patience finally ran out, and his voice became colder. “What? Do you want to look at other roles?”
After he said that, his face visibly darkened.
Lin Anan couldn’t afford to offend this important person. She quickly smiled apologetically and explained, “Brother Li, that’s not what I meant.”
Then she made up an excuse. “I just wanted to know who else was in the show so I could look up their information in advance. Otherwise, if I don’t know anything about them when I’m working with them, I’ll be embarrassing the company.”
Lin Anan’s real intention for asking this question was to slowly and subtly find out if Yu Nanxi was in this production.
Even though Wu Xixi had told her that Yu Nanxi never appeared in this show, the plot had already changed. Her role had gone from a small cannon fodder to a female lead’s maid, who was on par with the second and third female leads. She couldn’t guarantee that there wouldn’t be other changes to the plot.
But Li Sheng didn’t know about her true intentions, so he misunderstood.
She, of course, knew that with her current status, under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t have been able to get such a major role in such a big production.
Now that Li Sheng had gone out of his way to get it for her, there was no way she would refuse.
But if Yu Nanxi was also in this production, she would have to weigh the consequences of being in the same show as her.
When she mentioned the company’s reputation, Li Sheng’s expression softened. “I don’t know who has been cast yet, but I think you’d be a fool to pass on this role.”
The cast list hadn’t been announced yet, and Lin Anan didn’t dare to agree right then and there. But she also didn’t dare to be confrontational with Li Sheng, so she tactfully said, “Brother Li, I’m going to find a lounge to read the script more carefully.”
Lin Anan didn’t decide on the spot to take the role, which made Li Sheng a little unhappy. But she hadn’t explicitly refused either, so he couldn’t get mad.
Li Sheng had originally wanted to give this role to Tang Xin, but since Tang Xin’s fame wasn’t as high as Lin Anan’s, and since Lin Anan had been relatively well-behaved and obedient recently, he thought it over and decided to give the role to Lin Anan.
But he didn’t expect Lin Anan to look so ungrateful.
This angered him a lot. He thought to himself that he should go watch Tang Xin’s acting later. If she was good, he would let her audition for the role instead.
Li Sheng’s face fell, and he looked at the computer on his desk, no longer paying attention to Lin Anan.
Lin Anan knew she had angered Li Sheng. She didn’t dare to say anything else and quickly led Wu Xixi out of the office and into a lounge, where she closed the door behind them.
Wu Xixi closed the door and turned around. “Anan, were you worried that Yu Nanxi also took a role in this show, so you didn’t dare to accept it?”
“Yeah,” Lin Anan said, hugging the script in front of Wu Xixi. “Xixi, what’s going on? Didn’t you say I was supposed to play a cannon fodder who dies in a few chapters?”
Wu Xixi thought for a moment and shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“Because this show didn’t have Bai Yunshuang and Tang Xin’s role was so small, I didn’t describe it much. I don’t know why things have changed like this.”
The air was quiet for a moment. They both sat on the sofa. Lin Anan flipped through the script and looked up. “Who played Song Yunzhao before?”
Wu Xixi shook her head again. “I didn’t write it.”
“What about Yu Nanxi?” Lin Anan asked again.
Wu Xixi said helplessly, “In the original story, I really didn’t write about her joining this production. But right now, I’m thinking the same thing as you. I can’t say for sure anymore.”
The two of them were a little confused by the sudden change. Lin Anan had no choice but to put the script on the sofa, take out her phone, type “The Legend of Pear Dream,” and hit search.
The phone screen quickly showed a bunch of news related to The Legend of Pear Dream. But most of the information was about where the show was building outdoor sets, the progress of the costumes, or which celebrities were rumored to be playing the male and female leads.
Lin Anan flipped through a few pages of news about The Legend of Pear Dream. None of them mentioned Yu Nanxi. Her worries finally eased a little.
Wu Xixi moved closer to Lin Anan. Following Lin Anan’s gaze, she looked at the news articles Lin Anan was opening on her phone, a little worried. “How is it? Is there anything about Yu Nanxi?”
Lin Anan finished reading the last article. “From what I can tell, probably not.”
Wu Xixi also took out her phone and started checking Yu Nanxi’s social media accounts to see her schedule.
In conclusion, Yu Nanxi didn’t seem to have much to do with this TV show right now.
Even though they both felt a sense of relief, they were still a little uneasy.
In fact, Lin Anan was very happy about this role. Ever since she started proactively looking for work from Li Sheng, this was the best role she had gotten out of all her jobs.
Not only was the character likable, but she also had a lot of screen time. If she played it well, it would be easy for her to become popular.
And with such a big production, the salary for the entire show would definitely be a lot. When her fame increased, she would make money faster, and she would be able to run away sooner.
But even though there was no mention of Yu Nanxi joining the production online, most of the cast members hadn’t been announced yet. Everything was still unknown.
But waiting until most of the cast was confirmed to tell Li Sheng whether or not she would accept the role was clearly not an option.
Not to mention that Li Sheng had high hopes for this role, but if they waited until most of the cast was confirmed, she probably wouldn’t have a chance to get such a hot role.
The two of them leaned back on the sofa, a little worried.
Because they were still debating whether or not to take the role, they didn’t dare to leave the company. And since Lin Anan didn’t have any work scheduled for the afternoon, they decided to stay in the lounge for a while.
They studied the script for a bit and started to feel sleepy. So they left the lounge and went to the break room to make two cups of coffee to wake themselves up.
As they were making coffee, they saw Tang Xin and her assistant come out of Li Sheng’s conference room. Tang Xin was holding a script in her arms, and the title looked a little like The Legend of Pear Dream from a distance.
They just stood there, making coffee, watching Tang Xin and her assistant, Xiao Qing, walk to their lounge, then push the door open and go in.
They weren’t surprised by this at all because they knew that according to the main plot, Tang Xin was supposed to be in this TV show. Otherwise, how else would the original owner have been able to bully Tang Xin in the novel?
After they finished making their coffee, they both carried their cups back to the lounge.
Tang Xin looked at the two people who had just walked in and said, a little surprised, “Sister Anan, you’re at the company today, too?”
Lin Anan answered with a simple “yes.” She carried her coffee and sat on the other side of the sofa, then picked up the script and started flipping through it.
After the two assistants greeted each other, Wu Xixi also sat down next to Lin Anan.
“Sister Anan, I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were using this lounge,” Tang Xin said, her surprise deepening as she saw Lin Anan flipping through the script. “Sister Anan, are you also auditioning for a role in The Legend of Pear Dream?”
“Yeah, I am,” Lin Anan said casually.
“That’s great! We can take care of each other in the production crew later,” Tang Xin said politely.
Seeing Tang Xin’s friendly tone, Lin Anan couldn’t be too cold, so she said politely, “What role did Brother Li ask you to audition for?”
Tang Xin flipped through the script, a hint of subtle pride in her voice. “Song Yunzhao.”
“What?” Lin Anan sat up straight. “He asked you to audition for Song Yunzhao?”
Tang Xin was confused. “Yeah.”
“Then, Sister Anan, what role did Brother Li ask you to audition for?”
Lin Anan looked at Wu Xixi in shock. “Also, Song Yunzhao.”
Author’s Note:
Lin Anan: That damn Li Sheng said he would give it to me, but he gave it to Tang Xin instead.
Author: I’m trying to hold back… Actually… fate wanted to treat you well, but you didn’t appreciate it, so the result… will be a little miserable.
