“What?! Everyone Except Me Is a Villain (GL) - Chapter 6
She turned her head stiffly and met those familiar puppy-like eyes.
Right now, because of the fall, they were misted over, looking especially pitiful and fragile.
Zhen Xier, the true daughter of the Zhen family, and the cherished child of Zhen Batian.
Years ago, Zhen Batian’s wife was hunted by enemies while pregnant. The chase led to a premature birth, and after giving birth to a frail and incomplete Zhen Xier, the mother passed away in grief.
Zhen Batian doted on his daughter obsessively. To keep her alive, he committed countless immoral deeds.
One of them was following a fortune teller’s advice: the master claimed that Zhen Xier’s fate was fragile and needed a substitute to prolong her life.
So Zhen Batian let Zhen Xier be raised elsewhere and adopted a girl from an orphanage.
Jin Buning, to serve as her “life replacement.”
And now, the two who were fated to meet peacefully for the first time ended up in an accident instead.
Zhen Xier’s stamina points instantly dropped from 30 to 20, while Teacher Dong was so flustered she nearly fainted. Ironically, it was Jin Buning who had almost been hit by the falling flowerpot, yet the situation turned chaotic because Zhen Xier was the one who got hurt.
Jin Buning took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
It’s only been twenty-four hours since she arrived in this world.
Even though she’d already caused a mess, there was still a way to fix it.
Once she steadied her heartbeat, Jin Buning acted decisively closing the distance between them and checking Zhen Xier’s condition.
Fortunately, there were only a few scrapes on her hand; no serious injury to her legs.
When Jin Buning leaned in, Zhen Xier’s eyes flickered with curiosity and surprise but not fear.
That fleeting expression told Jin Buning all she needed to know.
If she guessed correctly, the falling flowerpot wasn’t an accident at all it was Zhen Xier’s doing.
But because Jin Buning reacted too quickly, Zhen Xier’s plan backfired, injuring herself instead.
Jin Buning stifled a laugh and asked with concern,
“Hey, are you able to walk?”
Zhen Xier moved slightly, bit her lip, and shook her head as if she were troubled.
What a little liar, Jin Buning thought, giving her a new nickname in her mind.
From her movements alone, it was obvious she had no intention of standing up clearly trying to use this “injury” to keep Jin Buning under control.
In the past, Jin Buning would have exposed such a lie right away.
But now, she needed to build connections with these so-called villains.
So she offered kindly,
“Alright then. I’ll carry you to the infirmary.”
Zhen Xier looked startled, as if she wanted to refuse but before she could speak, Jin Buning had already scooped her up princess-style.
Zhen Xier let out a small gasp and instinctively wrapped her arms around Jin Buning’s neck.
Her expression was complex, confusion flickering through her eyes, but when she realized Jin Buning wasn’t trying to harm her, she slowly relaxed.
After walking a few steps, Jin Buning suddenly realized she didn’t even know where the infirmary was.
She turned to ask, “Teacher, where’s the nurse’s office?”
Teacher Dong blinked in confusion. This new transfer student seemed calmer than she was. Coughing awkwardly, she said,
“I’ll take you there,” and hurried ahead to lead the way.
However, Teacher Dong’s stamina was only 10 points. After a few steps, she was already panting.
Meanwhile, Jin Buning carried Zhen Xier easily, not even short of breath a striking contrast that left the teacher speechless.
Questions swirled in Teacher Dong’s mind, but seeing Zhen Xier staring intently at Jin Buning, she decided to keep quiet. She didn’t want to accidentally become the next homeroom teacher to be dismissed.
After about five minutes, they arrived at the infirmary.
As the door opened, a woman in a white coat appeared. She was stunning especially the small tear mole under her eye, which made her look irresistibly sensual.
She seemed like a being made of pure allure, and everyone froze on sight.
“You’re… the new nurse?” Teacher Dong asked first, her voice a little shaky from intimidation. The woman’s beauty was striking it made even another woman feel self-conscious.
“Yes,” the woman said with a dazzling smile. “I’m just working part-time. Teacher Dong, don’t you remember me?”
Her voice was low and magnetic, the kind that made one’s ears tingle just listening to it.
Jin Buning subconsciously reached up to rub her ear before remembering she was still carrying someone. She quickly interrupted,
“Nurse, could you please take a look at her? A flowerpot fell from above. I dodged it, but she got caught in the way.”
Her tone was calm and clear, explaining the situation perfectly.
Zhen Xier’s injury had nothing to do with her and even if it did, it was Zhen Xier’s own doing.
The sexy woman finally turned to Jin Buning, eyes narrowing playfully. They were long, foxy eyes so expressive they could make even a dog feel adored.
But Jin Buning avoided her gaze. She knew that face too well.
“Oh, I remember you,” Teacher Dong said suddenly. “You’re Xu Yixin, right? Weren’t you last year’s top scorer on the national exams? What are you doing here as a nurse?”
That name shocked Jin Buning slightly, Xu Yixin.
Teacher Dong continued in disbelief. “It’s only been a few months since summer break, but you look… completely different.”
Xu Yixin laughed softly. “My cousin wasn’t feeling well today but didn’t want to lose the pay, so I’m filling in for her. I didn’t expect to meet you all on my first day.”
“You’re majoring in psychology, right? Are you sure you know how to treat injuries?” Teacher Dong asked, recalling how the principal used to brag about Xu Yixin every day.
Xu Yixin smiled with feigned helplessness. “That’s why I’m only here part-time. But little scrapes like this I can handle.”
As she spoke, she picked up the first-aid kit, but her movements were a bit clumsy, almost unprofessional.
Watching her, Zhen Xier visibly tensed. Jin Buning remembered from the story that Zhen Xier was terrified of pain.
If Xu Yixin hurt her, she’d probably take her anger out on her.
So Jin Buning quickly stepped forward.
“Let me do it, Senior Xu,” she offered politely.
Xu Yixin turned to look at her properly this time, a teasing smile playing on her lips. “Oh? Girlfriend?”
The question carried an unmistakable hint of mischief as she glanced knowingly at Zhen Xier.
It felt like an unspoken exchange passed between them old acquaintances, perhaps rivals.
“I don’t know her,” Jin Buning said.
“I just transferred here today,” she added evenly.
“Oh, I see,” Xu Yixin drawled. “Then, little junior, who do you want to treat your wound me or her?”
Her tone was silky and amused, impossible to read.
Zhen Xier’s eyes wavered; she seemed torn between choices.
Jin Buning had no idea what was going on, but the air felt thick, charged with something she couldn’t quite name.
She’d seen girls together before, but it never occurred to her that maybe this was why she couldn’t blend in with the so-called villains because they had no use for the male lead at all.
“Sorry,” Jin Buning said instinctively. “I didn’t mean to interrupt you two can continue.”
The moment she said that, both women looked at each other with faint disdain, speaking almost at the same time:
“She’s just a junior.”
“She’s just a senior.”
Their mutual disdain sounded more like casual teasing between friends than real animosity.
Jin Buning didn’t care either way she only wanted to return to the cultivation world. Whatever these people did here had nothing to do with her.
Still, perhaps because of her offer, Xu Yixin finally handed her the disinfectant kit.
“Well, since you insist go ahead,” she said with a faint smirk, stepping aside to watch.
Zhen Xier frowned slightly, glancing from Xu Yixin to Jin Buning.
Her lips pressed tightly together, as though afraid to show weakness in front of an outsider.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be gentle,” Jin Buning said softly. She knelt on one knee and began cleaning the wound with delicate care.
Zhen Xier’s body had been tense at first, but soon she realized it didn’t hurt at all.
Her gaze grew dazed, uncertain, as if she couldn’t understand why Jin Buning was so different from the rumors.
The treatment ended quietly. After applying a small bandage, Jin Buning finally relaxed.
Zhen Xier still looked pale, weak, and delicate. Out of habit, Jin Buning reached into her pocket for candy only to remember that in this world, Aunt Zhu didn’t exist, so there was no candy in her pockets anymore.
“…Thank you,” Zhen Xier said awkwardly.
Her tone was stiff, as if the word thank you hadn’t left her mouth in years.
“It should be me apologizing,” Jin Buning replied. “Sorry about earlier. A flowerpot fell from above, and I accidentally bumped into you trying to dodge it… If I’m not mistaken, you saw it happen too, didn’t you?”
Her eyes curved in a faint smile, her tone calm but meaningful.
Watching this, Xu Yixin looked positively delighted clearly finding it amusing that Zhen Xier’s little scheme had backfired.
Jin Buning also thought it was ironic, but she couldn’t afford to be too sharp.
So instead, she took Zhen Xier’s hand sincerely and said,
“Thank you for trying to save me.”
