What If I Ended Up Marrying My Enemy? - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Married
Beneath the section for personal information, it clearly displayed—
[Married]
Rain pattered quietly against the tall building’s windows, sliding down in winding trails.
Yu Wenxuan was woken by a faint sound. It wasn’t loud, but he had always been a light sleeper.
After sitting up, he rubbed his aching temples.
Was it from drinking?
Just yesterday, Yu Wenxuan had graduated from college. At the party, he was persuaded to drink quite a bit. After returning home and tidying up, he had fallen into a deep sleep.
But when he fully came to and opened his eyes, he suddenly realized—this was a completely unfamiliar place.
It was very different from his own bedroom, giving off a warm ambiance. It had all the necessary furnishings, but felt more like a lounge in an office than a home.
He stood up, and his body instinctively reached for a suit hanging on a rack nearby, then calmly buttoned it with one hand.
All of this was done out of pure muscle memory.
Only after finishing did he realize—why had he done it all so naturally?
Squinting in thought, he pushed open the door and walked out. As expected, the outside was a spacious office.
Knock knock knock.
A knocking sound came from the door.
Yu Wenxuan turned to look at the one-way mirror to his left. The buildings outside were familiar, yet slightly different from what he remembered.
This was the Yu Group building.
But how had he ended up here without a sound?
The knocking became more urgent. Calmly, he sat at the desk and said,
“Come in.”
Only then did someone open the door and enter, holding some documents.
Assistant Liu was startled by the look his boss gave him and nervously recalled that Yu Wenxuan had said earlier he had a headache and needed rest.
“President Yu, the proposal from Minhe just arrived,” he said, placing the documents on the desk. “They’d like to schedule a meeting to discuss it.”
President Yu?
Yu Wenxuan glanced at him in surprise.
Although he had been involved in Yu Group’s affairs since his freshman year, he wasn’t qualified to be called President Yu just yet.
Even though he sensed something was off, Yu Wenxuan kept his expression unreadable.
“Got it. You can go now,” he replied.
Once the assistant left, Yu Wenxuan began reading the proposal. It took him nearly half an hour to finish.
Although he still didn’t understand what was going on, he had no choice but to attend this meeting—it was, after all, a major project for the Yu Group.
Fortunately, it wasn’t too difficult. With some last-minute prep, he could manage.
After forming a rough plan in his mind, he returned the document to its place and noticed an unfamiliar phone placed next to him.
He hesitated, then picked it up to check the time.
That glance nearly made him drop the phone.
—Because the date on the phone clearly read: Five Years Later!
The phone unlocked automatically using facial recognition.
It was his phone.
In disbelief, he went online to verify the date and information. After checking repeatedly, he finally placed the phone down and rubbed his temples, expressionless.
There was no mistake.
He had somehow traveled five years into the future.
And not only that—five years from now, he had taken over the company and become the real President Yu, with a flourishing and successful career.
He recalled his college roommate once joking about transmigration in fantasy novels, but never thought it would actually happen to him.
Then, something occurred to him. He reopened the phone and opened his chat app, hoping to find something about his personal life.
Yu Wenxuan had always been neat and efficient, even in naming his contacts.
Apparently, his future self was the same—simple names and clear relationships.
Which is why one pinned contact stood out starkly.
—[Baby]
Yu Wenxuan went silent.
He couldn’t believe that he had actually saved someone under that name.
The person’s nickname was just “y”, and the profile picture was a fluffy white kitten.
Sure enough, when he checked his own avatar—it was a black kitten.
He skipped the casual chats and scrolled up.
Baby: “Why aren’t you home yet?”
Yu Wenxuan: “One more meeting. Don’t wait for me, go to bed early.”
Baby: “No.”
Baby: “I can’t sleep if you’re not here to hold me.”
A sense of dread washed over Yu Wenxuan. He exited the app and opened the internal directory.
As he feared, his personal info clearly stated:
[Married]
Yu Wenxuan: “…”
He had married young—at just twenty-seven.
And judging by the tone of the chats, it seemed like it was a very happy marriage.
Just as he was about to search for the name of his spouse, another knock came at the door.
Assistant Liu called from outside:
“President Yu, they’re already in the meeting room.”
Still no response from inside.
Then, the door swung open.
Yu Wenxuan, with his refined and noble appearance, lowered his eyes and walked out with composed authority.
“Let’s go.”
Assistant Liu quickly led him to the conference room.
…
Much of the proposal had already been discussed. The other party was just trying to haggle over pricing.
But after an hour of negotiation, they realized something—This newly-promoted President Yu was just as formidable.
He spoke calmly and with a smile, but blocked every request with undeniable logic and an air of authority.
The representative from Minhe forced a polite smile but inwardly cursed this wolf in sheep’s clothing.
By the time the deal was finalized, the sky had already darkened.
The rep packed the documents and extended a hand, saying:
“Well, I won’t delay President Yu from going home to his beloved. Pleasure doing business.”
Yu Wenxuan shook hands and replied with a soft smile:
“Pleasure doing business.”
After the others left, he stood there deep in thought.
Assistant Liu stood stiffly nearby, unsure whether President Yu had been displeased by the proposal.
The next second, he heard Yu Wenxuan ask lightly:
“My spouse… are you all familiar with them?”
Assistant Liu was confused but answered honestly:
“We’ve never met, but…”
He paused, choosing his words carefully.
“But President Yu often shares stories about your relationship with us.”
They were all smart people—it wasn’t hard to read between the lines.
Not only had he married young, but five years later he was regularly showing off his spouse at work—and even other companies knew about it.
Yu Wenxuan blinked slowly, struggling to accept all this.
After a few seconds, he finally walked out of the meeting room.
As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he ran into a few other employees.
They didn’t seem afraid of him. Instead, they teased cheerfully:
“Heading home to your sweetheart, President Yu?”
“When will you bring them in so we can meet them?”
What could he say?
That even he didn’t know whether this so-called “sweetheart” was a man or a woman? Beautiful or ugly?
He gave them a polite smile and didn’t reply.
Once he stepped out the building, his car was already waiting.
He got in, and the engine roared to life.
Now finally having a moment, Yu Wenxuan resumed his search for information on his supposed spouse—but no matter the keyword, nothing came up.
It was all private. Not public.
He opened the photo album, hoping to find something.
And he did find something—an album titled “Fluffy Little White”.
Given how it matched the over-the-top nickname from earlier, Yu Wenxuan was almost sure this was it.
Unfortunately, it was a locked private album.
Yu Wenxuan: “?”
Seriously?
Even hiding things from his own self?
He tried all his usual passwords—birthdate, common pins—but none of them worked.
Feeling a headache coming on, he gave up.
He’d meet the person soon anyway.
Just as he was about to put his phone down, a call came in.
The contact read: Cheng Yu—a longtime friend, still in contact five years later.
“What is it?” he answered, voice slightly irritable from the day’s chaos.
But Cheng Yu wasn’t surprised.
“Hey, isn’t your darling just on a business trip? Why the temper?”
“Which ear of yours heard me angry?” Yu Wenxuan replied.
“Both ears,” Cheng Yu said. Then added, “Anyway, I’m calling with good news!”
Yu Wenxuan, already disarmed, asked, “What news?”
“I just came from the airport and saw your baby getting off the plane. Probably be home in ten minutes~”
At the word “baby,” Yu Wenxuan’s eyelid twitched. He gave up correcting him.
“Why not message me?”
“Obviously wants to surprise you by coming home early!” Cheng Yu said brightly.
“Anyway, no more lonely nights for you—”
Before the sentence even finished, the call was cut.
Only now did Yu Wenxuan realize—Cheng Yu must know who his spouse is.
And he’d forgotten to ask!
Just then, the car stopped.
He stepped out and looked up at his current residence.
The villa had fingerprint and retina scanners, so at least he could still get inside.
A pleasant chime sounded as the door opened, just like earlier.
As Yu Wenxuan walked in, the lights automatically turned on.
The interior was warm and cozy. Lazy beanbag chairs, well-used kitchen utensils—everything radiated the sense of a lived-in home.
His aesthetic had changed in five years.
More surprisingly, everything came in pairs.
Yu Wenxuan turned his head and noticed a sticky note on the wall by the entrance.
He stepped closer, and when he read the words, the smile on his face instantly vanished.
It read:
—Yu Wenxuan promises never to come home smelling of alcohol again.
At first, he thought maybe his future self had done something dumb again.
But then he looked closely—the handwriting was elegant and clearly not his own.
He relaxed slightly, until he flipped the note over—And on the back, in his own handwriting, it simply said:
—Yu Wenxuan promises.
Yu Wenxuan: “……”
Spoke too soon.
Expressionless, he stared at the note for a long time before smiling wryly and sticking it back.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an entire stack of sticky notes like that on the cabinet by the door—all covered in messages.
He didn’t want to read any more. He was starting to seriously question his own identity.
For twenty-two years, people had always said he was polite, composed, and a business genius.
It was the first time he realized—Apparently, he also had a talent for being love-brained.
After wandering around for a bit, he went to the upstairs bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror.
His reflection was tall and well-proportioned, more mature and refined than in college. Even without smiling, he gave off the aura of a natural leader.
He reached out and touched the mirror—It felt real.
Only now, staring at this slightly changed face, did Yu Wenxuan truly feel the reality of his five-year time leap.
He had no intention of forming any deep emotional bonds, but since his future self was already married—and clearly deeply in love—Suddenly changing his attitude or suggesting divorce would raise too many questions.
And he couldn’t exactly go around saying, “I’ve time-traveled from five years ago.”
People would think he was insane.
More importantly, he had taken control of Yu Group—any personal issue could affect the company.
—Maintain the status quo for now, gradually distance myself emotionally, and eventually divorce.
That was the plan Yu Wenxuan settled on after careful thought.
Just then—
The same cheerful chime sounded from the door as earlier:
“Welcome home~”
Yu Wenxuan’s thoughts were pulled back.
As he walked toward the hallway, he adjusted his expression.
He had worn a pleasant mask for business deals plenty of times—but pretending to be head-over-heels in love?
That was a first.
He adjusted his clothes, stepped onto the landing, and rested a hand on the railing, gazing quietly downstairs.
Come on, then.
Let him see just what kind of person had made his future self so completely smitten.
