What If I Ended Up Marrying My Enemy? - Chapter 35
Chapter 35: The Camera
Yu Wenxuan had once been desperate to get an answer, but now that everything was laid out in front of him, he would rather that Yu Zhixue had really just suddenly started to dislike him.
Because compared to his own confusion and unwillingness to accept it, the two years Yu Zhixue endured had been far too difficult.
A promise remembered by only one person, a distance pushed away by his own hands yet impossible to retrieve—if the roles were reversed, Yu Wenxuan figured he would have found it unbearable too.
So… thank you, for still loving me now.
He propped himself up, reaching to gently touch Yu Zhixue’s long, falling hair—stroke after stroke, like he’d fallen under a spell.
Yu Wenxuan opened his mouth, about to say something more, but Yu Zhixue silenced him with a kiss. His lips were slightly cool and moist. After a moment, he pulled away slightly.
“You don’t need to apologize anymore,” Yu Zhixue said softly, eyes lowered. “Make it up to me instead.”
“The time I waited for you… you’ll repay it tenfold, a hundredfold. From now on, you’ll have to stay with me for the rest of your life.”
“That’s not compensation,” the tall figure said after a long silence. “Yu Zhixue, I would’ve stayed with you forever anyway.”
“Then I guess there’s no helping it,” Yu Zhixue murmured, eyes locked on his. “Because that’s my only wish.”
Yu Wenxuan replied, “That’s fine. You have plenty of time to slowly figure out what else you want.”
For all the time to come, whatever you want—just tell me.
…
The next morning, Yu Wenxuan had a press conference where he needed to give a speech. He rarely wore such formal attire.
Still groggy, Yu Zhixue stood behind him, resting his face on Yu Wenxuan’s shoulder. In the mirror, he noticed the tie hadn’t been knotted yet.
With a soft voice, he asked, “Want me to tie your tie?”
Yu Wenxuan obediently bent down.
Yu Zhixue, not fully awake, didn’t tie it particularly well—slightly sloppier than usual. He stared at it for a moment and said, “Maybe you should tie it yourself instead.”
Yu Wenxuan adjusted it a little and said, “No, this is fine. I like it.”
He stepped aside, letting Yu Zhixue go wash up, and walked to the nightstand where he picked out two elegant hair accessories.
After selecting one, he looked at the pair of rings beside it, removed the plain ring from his hand, and replaced it with the original one.
When Yu Zhixue came out after washing up, Yu Wenxuan was already waiting outside with a comb and a handful of sparkling trinkets.
The sound of the kitchen’s toaster and Yu Wenxuan’s cheerful voice marked the beginning of a brand new day.
……
At Yu Corp, people had vague suspicions about the two arriving together for work every day. But the idea was so absurd that no one dared confirm it.
Eventually, they grew used to seeing the CEO from the neighboring company show up every morning.
But today was different—Yu Zhixue came alone.
People glanced around, searching for the familiar figure, but didn’t see him.
Had they guessed wrong? Was it just a passing whim of Yu Wenxuan’s?
Yu Zhixue ignored their stares and walked straight to the elevator, pressing the button.
Honestly, his productivity improved when Yu Wenxuan wasn’t around—he wasn’t constantly sneaking glances at him.
But it just wasn’t as joyful.
While working through a stack of documents, a push notification popped up on Yu Zhixue’s phone.
“HeLi: Full livestream of Yu Corp’s press conference~”
He remembered Yu Wenxuan mentioning it yesterday, so he had searched it up—likely triggering the algorithm to recommend it now.
Yu Zhixue looked at the pop-up, then glanced at the documents on his desk, and turned off the screen.
Five minutes later.
He set aside the papers and resignedly opened the livestream, setting it beside him.
The streamer was a cute-looking girl who had just entered the venue. She had a solid fanbase, and the livestream was crowded.
She was responding to earlier comments, smiling as she said, “I really want to try interviewing him—I’m super nosy. I’ll try after the event ends.”
With that, she followed the staff to her seat and didn’t speak much afterward, just aimed the camera at the stage, careful not to disturb others.
The venue lights went dark except for a single spotlight center stage.
Yu Wenxuan stood beneath it, bowing to the audience.
Cheers and applause erupted, so intense that even through the screen, Yu Zhixue could feel the excitement in the room.
Soon, someone noticed something odd.
“President Yu’s tie looks a little off, doesn’t it?”
“Now that you mention it… it does look a bit crooked. Not bad, but kind of sloppy?”
“Not a big deal, but strange that no one corrected it at such an important event.”
The streamer glanced at the chat and smirked.
“I think it’s intentional.”
The chat didn’t get it.
“Keeping a crooked tie?? What kind of habit is that.”
“Maybe this is one of those rich-people things I don’t get.”
“But seriously, with that face, even a bow tie would look good.”
Yu Zhixue paused, eyes on that comment, and chuckled softly.
A bow tie, huh? That might not be so bad.
The streamer looked at the clueless fans and said with mock frustration, “Who said he tied it himself? I swear on my dignity—someone else helped him.”
“If you can’t even follow that hint, just leave the chat.”
With that, and considering Yu Wenxuan was married, the chat finally clued in.
“So it wasn’t that he tied it poorly—his wife tied it, and he didn’t want to redo it?!”
“Exactly! Yu President would never do something that isn’t loving.”
Still, there were dissenters.
“You’re just making up stories now.”
“Why push this narrative? Just admit he was careless. This is hilarious.”
“Fine,” the streamer said. “I’ll ask him directly when the event’s over. Hope you’ve got tissues ready.”
“You think loving his spouse is a ‘persona’—but that’s just how he lives^^”
“Guess what: Yu Wenxuan once paid 160 million for diamonds to make a wedding ring.”
Two hours later, she kept her word. As the press conference ended, she rose from her seat.
Yu Wenxuan had just stepped down from the stage, neatly dressed in a suit and wearing glasses that reflected a cool gleam.
He was walking toward the backstage area when the streamer called out, “Mr. Yu!”
Yu Wenxuan turned around, his dark eyes calm and curious.
She had been so confident earlier, but now in front of him, his presence was overwhelming—she even stammered a little.
“…I’m livestreaming right now, and I’d like to ask you a few questions—if that’s alright?”
Yu Wenxuan was silent for a moment. Just as she thought he would refuse, he moved.
He glanced at his watch and asked, “Is ten minutes okay?”
She had only asked on a whim, so his agreement stunned her.
Seeing her wide eyes, Yu Wenxuan added, “Sorry—I need to make it back in time to watch my partner eat lunch.”
She snapped out of it, afraid he’d change his mind. “Yes, of course! Won’t take long. Also—can we film?”
Yu Wenxuan glanced at her camera. “Yes.”
With his permission, she aimed the lens at his face. The livestream chat immediately exploded.
Yu Zhixue left a comment: “Good afternoon.”
And as expected, it was drowned in a sea of messages.
Besides the gossip, she also asked several sharp questions about the new product line. Though her looks were sweet, her questions were bold.
Yu Wenxuan answered each smoothly and without hesitation, occasionally adjusting his glasses.
Once the main questions were done, the streamer casually said, “While listening earlier, we noticed your tie seemed a little off. Didn’t you see?”
“No,” Yu Wenxuan said, touching the tie and smiling faintly. “My partner tied it.”
“Oh, I see.” She clenched her fist out of view, hiding her excitement. “Did they ask you to keep it like that?”
“No. He said it didn’t look good and told me to redo it. But I thought it was beautiful, so I left it.”
She followed up, “I saw in the chat—everyone’s saying you two seem very close.”
“A lot of people want to know how your relationship developed after marriage. Do you have any tips?”
“I really want to know! Wasn’t it a business marriage? But their relationship’s so good now.”
“Long story short: please publish a book.”
“This is the only true love story to emerge from a business marriage.”
More than thirty seconds passed without a reply from Yu Wenxuan.
“Oh no—does President Yu not like being asked about his personal life? He’s avoided it before.”
“Yeah, he’s always private about relationships.”
“Maybe it’s to protect them—but their love is real.”
……
“Did the streamer just step on a landmine?”
She finally realized she may have crossed a line. Yu Wenxuan had never shared much about his private life. Today likely wouldn’t be an exception.
She was just about to bow and apologize when he suddenly spoke.
“There might not be any particular secret.”
He’d never cared much about the misunderstandings around their ‘arranged marriage.’ But today, he suddenly wanted to break that illusion.
Yu Zhixue had been forgotten once, then had to endure his amnesia again. Yu Wenxuan didn’t know exactly how it felt, but just imagining it hurt.
No one could prove their first meeting. And only friends and family knew about their relationship the second time.
So now, Yu Wenxuan wanted everyone to know.
To know that he had someone he loved deeply—and to witness the years they would spend together.
The streamer hesitated, but curiosity got the better of her. “If there’s no secret, then why?”
“Because you were wrong,” Yu Wenxuan said. “I didn’t fall for him after we got married.”
As he looked into the camera, it was like his eyes met Yu Zhixue’s across time and space.
Yu Wenxuan stared directly into the lens, as if speaking to everyone watching. His voice was steady and sincere.
“I’ve loved him for seven years.”
