What If I Ended Up Marrying My Enemy? - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Interview
Everyone was too stunned to speak, especially Zhao Ci.
He stared at Yu Wenxuan, and on that smiling face, he managed to see a trace of smug satisfaction.
Zhao Ci’s slow brain finally pieced everything together, but he still tried to salvage things: “Even if you two are married, the company matters should still be handled separately, right?”
Yu Wenxuan didn’t even spare him a proper glance. He held Yu Zhixue’s hand, rubbing his fingertips, and after a pause, he turned to the person beside him and asked softly:
“Should we handle it separately?”
Yu Zhixue lowered his eyes. “No need.”
Yu Wenxuan chuckled and said in front of Zhao Ci, “Then can I say we won’t be working with him anymore?”
Zhao Ci thought Yu Wenxuan had completely lost his mind. Not to mention they were right there in the room, the cooperation with Yu Zhixue was already just one step away from being finalized.
He hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell Yu Zhixue everything—how could Yu Zhixue possibly agree without knowing the whole story?
But just as Zhao Ci started to feel a glimmer of hope, reality came crashing down and slapped him hard in the face.
Yu Zhixue didn’t even hesitate. He replied softly, “Okay.”
Zhao Ci looked up in shock and saw that Yu Zhixue still had the same expression as when they first met—cold, composed, completely detached.
Except when it came to Yu Wenxuan.
This farce ended quickly. With Yu Zhixue’s obvious and open protection, Yu Wenxuan leaned contentedly against him.
He signaled to Assistant Liu, who then led Zhao Ci and his people out of the office.
As the group left, the employees who had brought Yu Zhixue in earlier also quietly slipped out.
When they brought Yu Zhixue over, they had never expected the story to take this turn. As they left, someone couldn’t help glancing back to gossip.
At the office door, which hadn’t been fully closed yet, Yu Wenxuan was leaning in close and speaking softly to Yu Zhixue.
The two stood very close. Mid-sentence, Yu Wenxuan suddenly rubbed his cheek against Yu Zhixue’s face.
……
Once the people had left, Yu Wenxuan lowered his head and asked, “Why did you come over? To give me a hard time?”
Yu Zhixue thought for a moment and answered seriously, “More or less.”
After hearing Ji Hua’s explanation back at the company, he had immediately asked Ji Hua to drive him over. He went upstairs alone. From an outsider’s perspective, it probably did look like he came to demand answers.
Looking at his serious expression, Yu Wenxuan couldn’t help but nuzzle him again.
Yu Zhixue’s composure broke instantly, his eyes rounding slightly. After a couple of seconds, he leaned forward and pressed back lightly.
Sensing a lingering gaze from the door, Yu Wenxuan pulled back slightly and walked over to close it.
He sat back down and waved at Yu Zhixue, saying, “Come sit, let’s talk.”
Yu Zhixue looked at the small sofa across from Yu Wenxuan’s chair. Even though he fully understood what Yu Wenxuan was scheming, he still walked over.
There was no room left on the seat. As soon as he approached, Yu Wenxuan hooked an arm around his waist and pulled him into his lap, his chest pressing against Yu Zhixue’s back.
Through the fabric, warmth and a steady heartbeat passed between them.
Yu Wenxuan absentmindedly played with Yu Zhixue’s fingers while slowly explaining what had happened earlier.
Yu Zhixue listened quietly in his arms, not reacting much until he heard about Zhao Ci’s dual contracts. Then, he chuckled.
He straightened up a little, rested his chin on one hand, and his ponytail swayed slightly with the movement.
Tapping a finger on the table, after a moment he chuckled and said, “Should I be grateful he didn’t treat me like a fool?”
His smile was stunning but not necessarily sincere. His eyes remained sharp and unchanged.
Yu Wenxuan suddenly remembered a photo he’d seen during his amnesia—an interview picture of Yu Zhixue with that same expression, icy and cutting to the bone.
Dangerous—and deeply alluring.
Yu Zhixue was still thinking things through. Now that he knew the truth, it would be easier to explain everything later and cut off the collaboration entirely.
While his mind was occupied, his lashes lowered slightly, and his fingers tapped lightly on the table.
That was when Yu Wenxuan kissed his chin.
The tapping stopped abruptly. Yu Zhixue retracted his hand in surprise and met Yu Wenxuan’s warm, steady gaze.
“Don’t be too angry,” Yu Wenxuan said, then leaned over and kissed the corner of his lips.
Yu Zhixue wasn’t just not angry anymore—he almost forgot Zhao Ci’s existence entirely. His mind was now filled only with the dry, lingering sensation left on his lips.
“Are you… trying to coax me?” Yu Zhixue asked uncertainly.
“Not exactly,” Yu Wenxuan replied. “If I had to say… I just thought you looked really beautiful just now.”
Yu Wenxuan felt hopeless. Whether Yu Zhixue was angry or pleased, he was unbearably good-looking either way.
“And since you finally came to see me, stop thinking about other people.”
As he spoke, Yu Wenxuan picked Yu Zhixue up and placed him on the desk. He hooked a finger under his chin. “Wanna do something a little special?”
Yu Zhixue responded by grabbing his shoulders and kissing him.
……
Yu Wenxuan’s right hand cupped the back of his head. The tie in Yu Zhixue’s hair had come undone at some point, and his long hair now spilled across the desk.
Soft panting and wet, sticky sounds filled the enclosed space. Yu Zhixue’s legs rested on the arms of the chair, and after a while, his calves began to tremble uncontrollably.
Halfway through the kiss, Yu Wenxuan suddenly pulled away.
Yu Zhixue thought he was done—but Yu Wenxuan merely took off his glasses.
His lips, usually pale, were now tinted a soft, flushed red. Yu Zhixue felt flustered just looking at them.
Without his glasses, Yu Wenxuan kissed him even deeper—and this time, Yu Zhixue could barely hold on.
Feeling the trembling in his legs, Yu Wenxuan finally stood and leaned over, letting Yu Zhixue fall back and receive the kiss.
“There are still people outside… what if someone walks in?” Yu Wenxuan teased, hearing faint noises beyond the door.
Yu Zhixue’s mind was already a mess. Hearing that, he involuntarily pictured someone walking in and seeing him pressed onto the desk…
Yu Wenxuan felt his legs tighten slightly around his waist.
That was enough to snap the fantasy. Yu Zhixue regained a little clarity and muttered firmly, “You locked the door.”
Yu Wenxuan only chuckled and didn’t deny it.
Even though he could be a bit of a menace, Yu Wenxuan always respected Yu Zhixue’s boundaries. He cared even more than Yu Zhixue himself when it came to things that might make him uncomfortable.
In the end, no one did walk in—but the phone on the desk suddenly rang.
The loud “ring ring” pierced the room, yanking Yu Zhixue back to awareness.
Yu Wenxuan clearly didn’t plan to answer it. Fearing it might be important work, Yu Zhixue couldn’t take it anymore and kicked him. “Answer the phone.”
Yu Wenxuan glanced down at his thigh where he’d been kicked and picked up the call.
It was Assistant Liu. After a short conversation, Yu Wenxuan said, “Okay, transfer it over.”
Still holding the phone, he lifted Yu Zhixue by the back of his knees and sat him face-to-face on his lap again.
They were so close that even without speakerphone, Yu Zhixue could hear everything.
A clean, clear female voice came through. After a polite greeting, she got to the point:
“We’re reaching out today, Mr. Yu, because we’re doing a special live segment featuring business leaders and wanted to ask if you’d be interested in participating.”
Normally, no one would dare reach out to Yu Wenxuan, but after his recent livestream, it seemed like his attitude might be changing.
The production team had carefully weighed their options before sending the invite—and hadn’t expected much.
To their surprise, Yu Wenxuan didn’t reject them outright. Instead, he asked:
“What kind of format?”
That response boosted their confidence, and the woman eagerly explained:
“It’s a livestream format, but most of the questions will be provided in advance for you to prepare. There will also be a few spontaneous questions selected based on audience interest.”
“When is it?” Yu Wenxuan asked.
They told him it was scheduled for next week.
After a few more details, the call was wrapping up—until Yu Wenxuan asked:
“You said this is a business leaders segment. Who else is participating?”
There was the sound of pages flipping. The woman hesitated, then answered honestly:
“Our tentative second guest is Yu Zhixue.”
“You’ve contacted him yet?” Yu Wenxuan asked while glancing at Yu Zhixue beside him, clearly playing dumb.
“You’re the first person we called. We’ll be reaching out to Mr. Yu next,” she said.
Yu Wenxuan stroked Yu Zhixue’s hair and murmured, “You can ask him now.”
The woman, confused, replied, “Huh?”
Yu Wenxuan handed the phone to Yu Zhixue, who took it and softly said, “Hello.”
The staffer was stunned by the clean, crisp male voice—and the implications hit her instantly.
She could even hear someone breathing faintly nearby.
They did interviews daily and knew—this kind of audio overlap only happened when people were very close together.
Which meant Yu Wenxuan’s head might literally be resting on Yu Zhixue’s shoulder.
Forget whatever rumors were out there—this was way too intimate.
In fact, not only was Yu Wenxuan leaning on Yu Zhixue’s shoulder, his hand was also sneaking under Yu Zhixue’s clothes.
Yu Zhixue, still holding the phone, caught the movement and smacked him without hesitation.
The staffer heard a clear smack, followed by Yu Wenxuan’s happy laugh.
Staff: “……”
She was speechless. This felt just like watching office colleagues flirt in front of you.
Yu Zhixue had already heard most of the discussion earlier, so the call wrapped up quickly.
Just before hanging up, the staffer couldn’t help asking, “You two… seem to have a very good relationship, right?”
Yu Wenxuan dragged out his words teasingly and said with meaning, “Our relationship is very good.”
Yu Zhixue answered simply:
“We’re married.”
