What If I Ended Up Marrying My Enemy? - Chapter 47
Chapter 47: Kidnapping
“Please take care of him for me.”
Yu Zhixue shifted his gaze slightly and replied, “It’s fine.”
Yu Wenxuan raised an eyebrow but didn’t call him out. He simply stared at him silently.
Yu Zhixue raised his hand to push the person blocking his view, sat upright, and touched his lips. “Move aside, I need to get back to work.”
Yu Wenxuan: “…”
Who was it just now who called him over while he was reading documents just to kiss him? And now, he was being discarded the moment he was done?
Yu Wenxuan raised his hand as if to make a move, but Yu Zhixue didn’t even blink, clearly unafraid of him doing anything. In the end, Yu Wenxuan simply tapped his forehead before pulling away.
After stealing a few kisses, Yu Zhixue felt much calmer and actually began working seriously.
Now the roles had reversed—Yu Wenxuan became the restless one.
In the room with just the two of them, Yu Zhixue looked especially relaxed. He rested his chin on one hand while flipping through documents, his leg swinging slightly, clearly in a good mood.
Yu Wenxuan stared for a moment, then scooted even closer. Unsurprisingly, Yu Zhixue didn’t react much.
He stretched his leg out and hooked it around Yu Zhixue’s swinging ankle.
The cool surface of the shoe touched Yu Zhixue’s ankle, making his spine involuntarily twitch, but he didn’t say anything—he just slightly turned his head away.
Just as he was finally relaxing, Yu Zhixue saw Yu Wenxuan leave the room and return with something in his hand…
A comb?
Yu Wenxuan must’ve had too much free time. He had searched up some complicated hairstyles on his phone and started practicing them on Yu Zhixue’s head.
The loose hairband holding his hair up was pulled off in a single motion, letting his silky hair cascade down, momentarily dazing Yu Zhixue.
Yu Wenxuan reached out to smooth the hair in front of Yu Zhixue’s face, gently combing it out, then quietly played a tutorial video and began braiding his hair.
His fingers deftly wove through the black strands, and finally, he tied the end with the original hairband in the shape of a bow.
When he was done, he noticed Yu Zhixue hadn’t turned a single page in a while. “Still reading?”
Yu Zhixue hurriedly flipped a page to cover it up. “Of course.”
“Oh?” Yu Wenxuan had caught a glance at that page and said softly, “There was a mistake in the middle of the last page.”
Yu Zhixue’s hand paused mid-flip. He turned back and, sure enough, found a mistake. He gave a small “Oh.”
…
When Yu Zhixue got off work, employees at Yu Corporation noticed their boss had changed his hairstyle. His usual simple ponytail had been replaced by a complex braid that obviously took a lot of effort.
The bow at the end of the braid swayed with each step, forming a beautifully curved arc.
The so-called “acting assistant” followed behind at just the right distance—there was no doubt who was responsible.
Yu Wenxuan drove him home. At the door, the smart lock beeped and clicked open.
He dug out a pair of fluffy slippers from the shoe rack and placed them at Yu Zhixue’s feet.
After changing into them, Yu Zhixue ran to the sofa and flopped down before turning to look at his “spoils of war.”
There were a lot, weren’t there?
Yu Zhixue reached out and gently touched the neatly arranged stuffed animals one by one, as if saying, “I’m home.”
Yu Wenxuan was still adjusting the temperature on the thermostat when he turned and saw Yu Zhixue’s soft, elegant profile and his delicate movements.
After touching them all, Yu Zhixue grabbed a few to hug in his arms and headed upstairs. Seeing this, Yu Wenxuan asked, “Where are you going?”
Standing on the stairs, Yu Zhixue turned back and said, “Didn’t you say there was no room for them with you? So I decided to put them in a separate room. Whenever I want to see them, I’ll go there.”
Hearing that made Yu Wenxuan feel even worse. He didn’t want to wake up one day, reach over, and find his arms empty—only to realize Yu Zhixue had gone to sleep with the stuffed animals instead.
“How about we leave them on the sofa after all? I suddenly feel like it’s not that big of a deal,” Yu Wenxuan said.
Yu Zhixue didn’t understand his sudden change of heart. “Why are you being generous now?”
“I’ve always been this generous,” Yu Wenxuan shamelessly replied.
So, in the end, the stuffed animals stayed on the sofa.
…
Time flew by, and the day of the scheduled interview arrived. Because they had to get ready beforehand, they woke up even earlier than on a regular workday.
Yu Zhixue was already sleepy most mornings, and waking up this early made it even worse—his eyes wouldn’t open.
Yu Wenxuan was used to this. In his dazed state, Yu Zhixue was dressed and then carried over to the sink to wash up.
To help, Yu Wenxuan put a headband on him.
No one knew when he bought it—it was shaped like a panda, and with Yu Zhixue’s groggy expression, it actually looked quite fitting.
After washing up, he sat in a chair waiting for breakfast and dozed off again, his head bobbing slightly.
Yu Wenxuan set down the breakfast and gently cupped his cheek. His hands were still warm from handling the food.
Yu Zhixue cracked open an eye and yawned. “So sleepy…”
Yu Wenxuan wiped away the little tear that came from the yawn and brought the food to his lips. “Eat up—then you can nap in the car.”
After breakfast, Yu Wenxuan stood at the door, mentally checking for anything they might have forgotten. Behind him, Yu Zhixue leaned his forehead on his back for support.
Yu Wenxuan closed the door, turned around, and pulled him into his arms. “Do you want to walk out by yourself?”
This was a villa neighborhood, and the driver had parked right out front. They wouldn’t run into anyone.
Yu Zhixue thought it over and said bluntly, “No. I’m sleepy and cold. I don’t want to walk.”
Yu Wenxuan picked him up, gave him a little bounce, and Yu Zhixue snuggled into his neck, wrapping his arms around him.
Holding his legs with one arm, Yu Wenxuan opened the car door with the other. The driver, hearing the door, turned to greet them.
Yu Wenxuan held a finger to his lips, signaling for silence, and then pointed to Yu Zhixue, who had his eyes closed on his shoulder.
The driver fell silent and quietly started the car.
Yu Wenxuan shielded Yu Zhixue’s head as he sat in the back seat with him. With nothing else to do, he passed the time by silently counting his eyelashes.
He’d already sent the destination to the driver the night before, so no conversation was needed. After about half an hour, they arrived.
Now there were people everywhere. While Yu Wenxuan didn’t mind carrying him in, Yu Zhixue would definitely feel embarrassed once he was fully awake and remembered it.
Traffic had been smooth, so they arrived with a bit of time to spare. Yu Wenxuan let Yu Zhixue continue napping for a while.
When time was almost up, he gently poked Yu Zhixue’s cheek.
Yu Zhixue wasn’t sleeping deeply. Feeling the touch, he half-opened his eyes and murmured, “Mm.”
Yu Wenxuan said, “We need to go. Wake up. Otherwise, I’m carrying you in.”
Yu Zhixue sat up, glanced at the bustling crowd outside, and slid off Yu Wenxuan’s lap.
Yu Wenxuan got out first and then offered a hand to help him down.
The staff had known they’d be arriving for the interview and were waiting downstairs. Seeing the tall pair walk in, they came over to guide them upstairs.
She led them to the third floor where they could change and get makeup done. Since this was a live broadcast, appearances mattered.
However, the two behind her didn’t seem like they needed any managing.
The makeup artist approached and said, “Mr. Yu, please follow me to the room on the right. Mr. Yu Wenxuan, you’ll be in the third room on the left.”
She gestured to another colleague beside her. “She’s in charge of you.”
Yu Wenxuan, hand resting on Yu Zhixue’s shoulder, asked something unexpected: “Can I stay with him?”
Only the lead coordinator had been told about their relationship during the call. The rest of the team wasn’t informed.
The makeup artist could only infer from their close proximity that the two had a good relationship—definitely not the hostile kind the public speculated.
So when asked that question, she was stunned. “It’s faster if you’re separate. Do you have concerns with the arrangement?”
“It’s not your fault,” Yu Wenxuan admitted. “I just wanted to ask. It’s fine if not.”
Then, looking her straight in the eyes, he added seriously, “Please take care of him.”
Take care of him…?
The makeup artist suddenly remembered her friend’s pampered little cat.
When the cat was left with her during a trip, her friend had also solemnly said, “Please take care of him.”
But Yu Zhixue wasn’t a cat, and their relationship shouldn’t require that level of care… yet she couldn’t stop making the comparison.
She dazedly nodded twice.
Seeing her nod, Yu Wenxuan leaned in to whisper to Yu Zhixue, “I’ll come find you when I’m done. Just wait for me there, okay?”
Yu Zhixue nodded too.
But the space wasn’t big, and the makeup artist wasn’t far away. Plus, her hearing was quite good—she heard everything.
Clearing her throat awkwardly, she said, “I’ll take Mr. Yu over now?”
She should’ve been addressing Yu Zhixue, but somehow, she’d ended up asking Yu Wenxuan.
Yu Zhixue walked over, and Yu Wenxuan waved goodbye. Yu Zhixue returned the gesture.
Once he saw Yu Zhixue walking away, Yu Wenxuan turned to head toward his own dressing room.
Following the makeup artist, Yu Zhixue seemed distracted and kept glancing back. The ends of his hair swayed as he walked.
The makeup artist noticed and couldn’t shake the feeling that she was… kidnapping someone else’s kitten.
And with that ridiculous thought, even that elegant, aloof face of his looked softer—almost adorable.
