What If I Ended Up Marrying My Enemy? - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Snowman
After the interview, Yu Zhi Xue didn’t bother looking at any of the discussions online. Autumn was coming to an end, and he was enjoying a short holiday.
Over on Yu Wenxuan’s side, the game had launched its open beta, so he also had a lot more free time.
On the couch, he pulled Yu Zhi Xue into his arms and reached up to play with his hair.
“Since we finally have some time off, where do you want to go?”
Yu Zhi Xue thought for a moment.
“I don’t want to stay in Beijing. We’ve got plenty of time—should we go somewhere else?”
“Sure.” Yu Wenxuan nodded.
“How about the south? It’s warmer there. We can stay for a few days.”
Yu Zhi Xue didn’t say yes or no right away. After a while, she tugged on Yu Wenxuan’s hand.
“You studied out of town before, right? Where was that?”
“T City. If we go now, it’s probably snowing over there.” Yu Wenxuan lowered his head, recalling the weather back when he was in school.
Yu Zhi Xue stood up from his arms.
“Then let’s go.”
That was all he needed to say. Yu Zhi Xue just had to decide on the destination—Yu Wenxuan had a lot more to think about. He made a call to someone there and asked them to tidy up his old place.
Although they could buy whatever they needed once they arrived, Yu Zhi Xue was particularly sensitive to cold. Since they were going somewhere like that, they had to prepare in advance.
Scarves, gloves, and hats were all packed into a single suitcase. Yu Zhi Xue, who had already booked the flight, stood to the side watching him pack.
“All done?”
Yu Wenxuan zipped up the suitcase, all their things packed into one.
“Yeah, ready.”
…
Once the plane landed, Yu Wenxuan went to grab the suitcase. When he turned back, he saw Yu Zhi Xue standing by the glass, staring outside. It was really snowing in T City—the world outside was covered in white.
Yu Wenxuan wheeled the suitcase over, found a spot, and opened it. Before they stepped outside, he took out their winter gear and suited them both up.
Yu Zhi Xue looked down at his gloved hands, then reached up to adjust the hat slightly covering his eyes.
“Is all this really necessary?”
“You’ll understand once we go out.” Yu Wenxuan helped straighten his hat and stray hairs, then pulled his hands back when everything was in place.
Yu Zhi Xue felt like he looked a bit ridiculous now.
“It looks heavy.”
“Does it?” Yu Wenxuan took a few steps back and smiled.
“You look like that fluffy little plush you always leave on the couch.”
Yu Zhi Xue blinked, stunned by the comparison.
……
Once they stepped outside, Yu Zhi Xue realized just how right Yu Wenxuan had been. Beijing was cold, sure—but this was a whole different level.
He actually felt like the clothes weren’t warm enough. Luckily, their ride showed up quickly.
The inside of the car was much warmer. Yu Zhi Xue reached up to unwrap the scarf from his neck but was stopped by Yu Wenxuan.
“We’re getting out again soon. Don’t take it off yet.”
The driver noticed their little scuffle in the rearview mirror.
“You two here on vacation?”
Yu Zhi Xue nodded.
“Just here for a few days to have fun.”
The driver was pretty observant and picked up right away that they were probably a couple. He smiled.
“Then you should check out Lingyue Mountain to the east.”
“What’s that?” Yu Zhi Xue asked, not really familiar.
Before the driver could respond, Yu Wenxuan casually answered while playing with the tassels on his scarf:
“There’s a temple up there where people pray for romance. It’s supposed to be really effective—a lot of people go there.”
“Oh,” Yu Zhi Xue replied softly, then turned to him with a quiet question.
“Did you ever go there when you were in school?”
“Guess,” Yu Wenxuan replied lazily.
He had once told him he’d never liked anyone before.
“So… you didn’t go?”
“Yeah. I went up there with a friend to have a look, but I didn’t go in to pray. Back then, I didn’t believe in that stuff—and I wasn’t thinking about getting with anyone either.”
The driver chimed in, “Want to go now?”
Yu Wenxuan glanced at Yu Zhi Xue and smiled.
“Now I don’t need to pray for love anymore.”
Yu Zhi Xue, however, was curious. He poked his cheek.
“I want to go see it.”
“Sure.” Just moments ago he was saying he wasn’t interested, and now he’d already changed his tune.
“The view’s nice up there. Once we’re settled in, I’ll take you tomorrow.”
The short car ride went by quickly. Yu Wenxuan took her straight to the place he used to live during high school. It was pretty high up.
The place had just been cleaned—not long ago, apparently. Knowing they were coming, someone had even turned on the central heating in advance.
Yu Wenxuan pulled out two brand new pairs of slippers from the cabinet. Once they got inside, he started helping Yu Zhi Xue take off his scarf and hat.
After unwrapping everything, Yu Zhi Xue also took off his coat, revealing a cream-colored sweater underneath. He curled up on the couch, sitting cross-legged.
Yu Wenxuan poured his a glass of hot water to warm his hands, and took one for himself. Just as he was about to drink, his phone buzzed in his pocket.
It was a message from a high school classmate he hadn’t talked to in ages—someone he used to get along with.
“I just saw your post on WeChat Moments. You’re back in T City?”
He had taken a picture of the snowy airport earlier and posted it without much thought—didn’t expect anyone to notice.
“Yeah.” He replied with one hand.
The next message came instantly—clearly the person was holding their phone.
“Perfect! Our old class is having a get-together tonight. A bunch of people are coming. We weren’t sure if you’d be free so we didn’t ask—but since you’re here, wanna come?”
“Tonight?”
“Yup. If you’re coming, I’ll send you the address and save you a spot.”
Yu Wenxuan set down his untouched glass, took a screenshot, and sent it to Yu Zhi Xue.
He was on his phone too, having just seen the snow photo he posted. He was even thinking about posting one herself when the screenshot arrived.

Yu Wenxuan: “Wanna go for dinner?”
Yu Zhi Xue glanced up at him. He had just sent the message and was staring at the screen, clearly waiting for a response.
Yu Zhi Xue: “Why don’t you just ask me out loud?”
Yu Wenxuan: “Didn’t want to interrupt you while you were on your phone.”
Yu Zhi Xue: “…”
He double-tapped his profile picture: You patted Y.
Yu Wenxuan: “So, wanna go?”
Yu Zhi Xue exited the chat, looked up, and called out, “Yeah, let’s go.”
Yu Wenxuan heard his unusually loud reply and chuckled. He switched chats and messaged his classmate:
“Send me the address. Save two spots—I’m bringing my partner.”
Lunch was cooked by Yu Wenxuan. The part-time cleaner had stocked the fridge, so the dishes turned out pretty decent.
That afternoon, Yu Zhi Xue went outside to play in the snow. He instructed Yu Wenxuan to help his build two small snowmen. The snow wasn’t very deep, so they were on the smaller side.
He squatted in front of the short snowmen, dressed in fluffy earmuffs and a pale coat, looking like a third snowman herself.
He poked the snowmen’s faces, then pulled a few stones out of his pocket and carefully gave them both eyes.
Yu Wenxuan stood nearby, looking for twigs to use as arms. Once Yu Zhi Xue confirmed he wasn’t watching, he reached out and poked the snowman representing him twice more.
Now, that snowman had dimples.
Yu Wenxuan brought over some similar-length twigs. As he was attaching them, he noticed the little indentations in the snowman’s face.
He didn’t say anything, just quietly watched him decorate.
After a while, Yu Zhi Xue figured he hadn’t noticed and forgot all about it.
Once everything was done, he stood up and dusted off his coat, ready to ask Yu Wenxuan if there was any way they could bring the snowmen inside.
But before he could say anything, he took off his gloves and suddenly reached out to pinch his cheeks—pressing into the soft flesh so it indented slightly.
Yu Zhi Xue was caught off guard and stared at him, clearly confused.
Yu Wenxuan explained slowly, “Dimples.”
Yu Zhi Xue couldn’t help scooping up some snow and throwing it at him.
…
Inside the restaurant’s private room.
They arrived a bit early, so there weren’t many people yet. The classmate who had messaged him—Zhao Kaiyun, the class president back then—was already there.
Zhao Kaiyun waved them over.
“Take a seat—anywhere you like.”
Yu Zhi Xue looked around, picked a spot on his own, and sat down. Yu Wenxuan didn’t mind his choice and sat beside him.
Zhao Kaiyun, who clearly knew about the interview situation, didn’t foolishly ask about their relationship. He just passed over the menu.
“I already ordered a few things—take a look and see if there’s anything you want to add.”
Since Yu Wenxuan was closer, Zhao Kaiyun handed him the menu. Just before taking it, Yu Wenxuan noticed the dessert section with cold drinks and ice cream.
He quickly pressed that section down and flipped the menu over naturally, placing it between himself and Yu Zhi Xue.
Yu Zhi Xue casually added a couple of items and pushed the menu back.
“That’s good enough.”
“They’ve got the rest covered—some fruit and snacks too,” Yu Wenxuan said casually.
Yu Zhi Xue didn’t question it and handed the menu back.
More classmates trickled in, and many were surprised to see Yu Wenxuan. Everyone came over to greet him.
Most of the evening was spent chatting about life and reminiscing about school days. Yu Wenxuan wasn’t overly talkative—just polite. Most of the time, he focused on serving food to Yu Zhi Xue.
Near the end, someone ordered drinks and poured a bit for everyone—including Yu Zhi Xue.
“Give it to someone else,” Yu Wenxuan said with a smile, taking the glass back before finishing his sentence.
He was clearly implying that Yu Zhi Xue got… interesting after drinking?
The classmate didn’t quite get it but didn’t insist and passed the glass to someone else.
Yu Zhi Xue, curious, leaned closer.
“What happens to me?”
He had stopped eating, so Yu Wenxuan calmly skewered a piece of fruit and held it out to him.
Yu Zhi Xue frowned.
“Doesn’t look sweet. Pick another.”
Yu Wenxuan obediently swapped it out. This time, Yu Zhi Xue took a bite.
But he hadn’t forgotten his earlier question.
“So? What happens to me?”
“You get cute,” Yu Wenxuan said with a straight face.
“Last time you got drunk, you grabbed me and insisted on kissing.”
He leaned in, blocking the light from above. His face was so close, Yu Zhi Xue thought he might actually kiss him again.
But he just whispered,
“I don’t have the same self-control I had back then. If you pull me close again and beg for a kiss, I’m not saying no.”
The light returned.
“So, best not to drink.”
